Title:

Label:
CAPTAIN TRIP (JAPAN)
Format:
CD
Price:
$18.00
Catalog #:
CT 012
Klaus Dinger's latest project, with the band name Die Engel Des Herrn (The Angels of the Lord). This is 2nd release under this name, recorded live in 1993. "His live performance has been a covered legend since Neu! At last, he takes off the veil! The once, now, and for always impish angel of rock 'n' roll. When you hear this performance, you'll know. PSYCHEDELIC PUNK!" Klaus sings & plays guitar in a shambling rock style, that could maybe fit somewhere in between Eric Hysteric and Bill Direen (but a lot more laughable). Limited stock.

"New recordings by Kraut legend Klaus Dinger & his band of seafaring chantey-driven pirate captains (Rudiger Elze, Viktoria Wehrmeister, Rembrandt Lensink). Supposedly, this project had it's inception when someone (we hear it was Eroc, with his unnaturally large right foot) accidentally knocked over a box of tapes at Conny Plank's studio (or was is Dieter Dierks?) clearly marked 'JUNK' which, in fact, turned out to be an unreleased Harmonia/Neu/Cluster/Psy-Free/Nazgul freak-out recorded live at the Great Pyramid one cloudy day back in 1973. Instead of reissuing the session intact, Klaus formed this group to 'cover' the material! Unfortunately, the tape (recorded at 7 1/2 ips, effectively the 'Speed of Saturn') of the original concert is 13.4 hours longs, and said contemporary group have yet to 'update' ALL of the '73 material into a palatable 'modern' form for mass consumption/digestion. Whimsical." -- Hrvatski. Limited stock.

Blue (La Dusseldorf 5)
Label:
CAPTAIN TRIP (JAPAN)
Format:
CD
Price:
$18.00
Catalog #:
CT 178
Japanese only release of this recording from 1984-86 which was intended as the 5th La Dusseldorf album (but never released). The back cover graphics include the original rejection letter from Virgin Germany head Udo Lange, who decided to not release the record (can you handle the drama?). The inside liner notes detail more information about industry boycott of Klaus Dinger, always good for a laugh. The music on this album is a beautifully dated blend of 80s new wave and post-metronomic melancholy. Second rate, but in a curiously endearing fashion.

Price:

Catalog #:
CT 045
Previously unreleased Neu! live album (only issued in Japan) recorded in Dusseldorf by the trio of Klaus Dinger, Michael Rother and Eberhard Kranemann, theoretically just a few months after the recording of their historic debut album. Referred to as a "public test/self-audition" this has a primitive jamming rehearsal vibe to it (first track is 40 minutes long) that's pretty appealing, and like the best bootlegs out there (better watch my language) this provides some rather keen insight into the nascent beginnings of something considered long lost. Not for beginners, but fans will have to have it. Sound is lo-fi but acceptable. Klaus's ridiculous cover design (fax-quality cover repro, idio-fan-letter enclosure, aforementioned Biba Kopf review, pathetic Julian Cope jibe, etc.), provides way more information into his current psychosis than is really necessary. Live reunion performance from '95 in SF by this legendary group whose debut album from 1967 is one of the all time great strange psychedelic experiences. Founding member Cork Marcheschi (Echolette Audio Generators, microphones, fishphone, squeaky stick, Theremin, Spark Gap, saw blades, bow-wow yo-yo, amplifier, digital delay) grouped together a new band and performed that material for the first time in 27 years. Like just about every other reunion album from the last 15 years, I'd rather not comment, but this could be worse. "They never changed their sound & spirits! Good quality sound."

"German mystic group, playing percussive space reggae. Featuring Damo Suzuki (ex-Can)." This is a previously unreleased live recording, from Cologne 1985, and is a CT exclusive release (the following 2 CDs are licensed from the band's FunfUndVierzig label in Germany). Dunkelziffer started recording for Pure Freude in 1982, but Suzuki did not join until 1984 with their
In The Night
album. Although
very
80s sounding with some new wave lapsings, these albums feature long percussive-groove tracks, experimental/raw edges and the occasional transcending moment. Damo's vocals distinctly hover across the top, and Can fanatics need to hear these.

Captain Trip's documentation of "new Japanese rock" has been pretty painful/comical. "This is in a La!Neu?'s name. But, all songs were played by Rembrandt (La!Neu?) with big support of Klaus Dinger. La! Neu? family album. Sound like completely electro world." The 3rd album under this name is mostly solo album by La! Neu?'s Rembrandt Lensink of synthesized structure and fields of sound, shuffling between beat-inflicted tracks with more ambient sampled sources -- somewhat of a divide between old Kraut space/synth outbursts and primitive concrete works. And little to none of the more pop influence that has shown up on previous La! Neu? albums. The information found inside the booklet says: "Yes, this is a one instrument direct recording without computer, external sequencer or multi-track mixing. No, it's more a spontaneous compilation of noise events, not a high-tech music production. All tracks by (except 22), photography & artwork by Rembrandt Lensink. Track 22 by Dinger & Lensink."

"Live from '90. Members are Damo Suzuki (ex-Can, Dunkelziffer), Jaki Liebezeit (ex-Can, Phantom Band), Dominik von Senger & Matthias Keul are from Dunkelziffer. They also play old Can numbers 'Halleluwah,' & 'Mushroom'." This is a German pressing, distributed by Captain trip, packaged in a nicely designed corrugated cardboard sleeve. It appears to document an entire live performance in Austria. The approach is more rooted in basic rock perhaps, but for those infatuated with the activities of Damo & Jaki it's a necessary pile-shifter.

First issue of live recordings from 2/22/75, by a group led by Uli Trepte (ex-Guru Guru, pre-Spacebox). Intense, primitively recorded improvisational rock-jazz, led by Trepte's bass, with Carsten Bohn (drums), Willie Pape (woodwinds), Otto Richter (violin) & Fritz Hegi (electric piano). "Common to all us -- besides our fondness for psychedelica and our efforts not to separate life from work -- was the undisputed intention not to play Anglo-Saxon leaning rock, but something specifically our own (Cental European) and above all bereft of standardized circle of fifths changes in the function harmonics. In order to achieve this we relied on my already quite well developed method to put the musical theme into the lower voice, in this case the bass guitar, thus giving the descent plenty of room for free excursions." -- Trepte.

Restocked. With the recent publication of Isis Aquarian's book
The Source: The Untold Story of Father Yod, Ya Ho Wa 13, and the Source Family
, plus their first public performances in over 30 years, interest in Ya Ho What 13 is at an all time high! 2nd edition now available. No longer comes w/ the original oversize box or booklet, but priced at a much lower price. This 13 CD box set collects the complete available recordings of '70s cult rockers from CA, Ya Ho Wha 13. Led by the late Father Yod, who supposedly died in a hang-gliding accident in the late '70s(?), Ya Ho Wha 13 released numerous LPs (and at least one 8-Track) on their own Higher Key label in the mid-'70s. Only distributed locally at the time, some of these have been reissued in psuedo-legit (or outright bootleg) fashion in the UK over the last decade (although more recent Swordfish releases are fully authorized), but have never been widely available. These records epitomize the insanity of highly-personalized psychedelic exploration via the fringes of rock music and it's subsequent private documentation better than anything else produced by the human race to date. Tribal-acid pound from the family's key group members (Djinn, guitar; Sunflower, bass; Octavius, drums) and freakish vocal output from Yod himself, wailing away on top like the king of the universe. The exact number of of Ya Ho Wha albums has never been clearly specified until now, but this incredible box set appears to put them all in place, plus a few CDs worth of unreleased material. This new edition features a wooden box with wax seal, with the 13 discs contained in 3 plastic cases. It's not as deluxe as the original packaging (which had 13 separate jewel case editions -- but that was for "then," this is for "now." The music still represents the ultimate in the weird & insane world of private press psychedelic documentation, not to be missed. Contains the following albums: 1) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF '76:
Kohoutek
(the debut release on Higher Key from 1973). 2) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF '76:
Contraction
(1974). 3) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRT OF '76:
Expansion
(1974). 4) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF '76:
All Or Nothing At All
(1974, with 4 bonus 7" tracks). 5) YAHOWA 13 (1974, with two bonus 7" tracks). 6) YAHOWA 13:
Savage Sons of Yahowa
(1974). 7) YAHOWA 13:
Penetration: An Aquarian Symphony
(1974, the masterpiece, one of the 25 most destroyed rock records of all time for sure!). 8) YAHOWHA 13:
I'm Gonna Take You Home
(1974, again! & and another monster record; let's not forget Gregg Breth's words from the past -- after all, his copies were handed to him by 'wisdom': 'The ultimate acid album there is. Insane vocals and screaming, 100% twisted guitar and total permeated feeling of being completely fucked up! This album is the epitome of the term acid.'). 9) YAHOWA 13:
To The Principles For The Children
(1974-75). 10) FIRE, WATER, AIR:
Golden Sunrise
(1977, the 8-track only release). 11) YODSHIP (undated, showed up as a UK boot/legit issue a few years ago; classic acid-folk floatation/chant from Osirus & Sunlight with the brothers and sisters). 12) VA:
Related Singles
(featuring Sky Saxon on most tracks). 13): VA:

The fourth Dunkelziffer CD to be released via Captain Trip and the group's Fünfundvierzig label. It includes their earliest EP recordings from 1982, which were originally released by the legendary Pure Freude label (before Can vocalist Damo Suzuki became involved with them). These tracks are pretty classic new wave ethno trance and have certainly aged well. This CD also includes various outtakes from 1983, which are also pre-Damo and of interest. If Can-tangibles are what it takes to get you excited, Reebop Kwaku Baah is a main percussionist for Dunkelziffer and Jaki Liebezeit contributed bongos to one track!

Cha Cha 2000 -- Live In Tokyo
. This CD opens up with about 6 minutes of various audio verite documentation of Klaus Dinger walking around at soundcheck-time, saying "hello" to promoters, stagehands, anybody else unfortunate enough to get near him. One of those outrageous tactics where Klaus gets to pound his chest and exclaim, "look at me, I'm fucking braindead! Again!" The sound of shuffling feet has never been so "special". Very, very special. After that a couple of near silent tinkering ambient tracks follow and then a full band live version of "Viva" snaps you out of your coma. Recorded "bootleg style" with two mics direct to DAT, hold on to your pulsations. The 2nd disc features some songs, interminable stage banter, probably some other stuff.

"Recent CD of previously unreleased and pleasingly rough live recordings of Japan's Mirrors, from '78-'79. Historically they might be in the shadow of Friction, but Mirrors and the Gozira label which released their two singles are the real fathers of Japanese punk's first wave. Previous reissues of the Mirrors material have been few, limited and never really distributed outside Japan, so this disc is a much-welcomed release. These live recordings serve them well, as this is among the finest stripped down 3-chord buzz you could hear from anywhere in this era. If there was any doubt, this one should cement the Mirrors' place in the canon of greats in the worldwide '77 big-bang." -- Rob Buschgans

First ever CD reissue of one of the most extreme Krautrock-era albums ever made. Originally released by Philips Germany in 1970, the triple LP edition came in an elaborate 'mirror' sleeve and has been near-impossible to find for 35+ years; there have been a handful of suggested reissues over the years, but finally Captain Trip has brought it to fruition, in collaboration with founding member Suzanne Doucet. Incredible fold out packaging emulates the original, with front embossing and silver-foil printing on the quadruple fold-out jacket. Zweistein were a trio of Jacques Dorian, Suzanne Doucet and Diane Doucet. This perfectly done reissue (including 2 bonus tracks from their single at the end of disc 3) is heavily anticipated.
"Musically,
Trip, Flip Out, Meditation
is largely a sound collage containing massive amounts of studio effects wizardry. Listeners are bombarded with an hour and forty-six minutes (106 minutes) worth of effects-laden voices, natural sounds, electronic effects, organ, guitar, drums and other instruments. The side-long compositions are virtually strewn together avant-garde improvisations in which anything goes. It is this fact which acts as a catch 22 and splits the Krautrock fan base into two factions. First there are those who hail the album as a masterpiece due to its avant-garde nature, wild approach, and inherent reference to a drug trip. Then there are those who pass the album off as a complete timewaster due to its evident amateur musicianship, lack of direction and avant-garde nature." --Doug Brotherton
