On top of A&R-ing Cargo Edition, Matthias Tanzmann also contributes his own original and remix work for the label. Unsurprisingly, the label is very excited to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Cargo Edition with its first label compilation. As well as the whole Cargo Edition family submitting their own exclusive tracks, new friends and members such as Livio & Roby, Ralph Sliwinski and Skipson also contribute exclusive material. On the bonus CD, Berlin resident Ekkohaus reviews Cargo Edition's history with a very special DJ mix. In his own words, "I selected the right moments from the Cargo Edition discography to create a flow that allows the label's signature sound to unfold, and showcases its spectacular artists." With the bonus mix, Ekkohaus demonstrates that he's not only an outstanding producer and live act, but also a great DJ.

"Cargo Edition is the new label of Moon Harbour artists Daniel Stefanik and Matthias Tanzmann. You might wonder: why still another new label? The explanation is pretty simple: Daniel loves techno. And he is producing a lot of it. Instead of stretching the musical profile of Moon Harbour into all directions, Cargo Edition was founded for experimental, techno-oriented sounds. This is where Daniel can do whatever he wants to do -- and together with him his mates in mind. One of them being Mathias Kaden -- having gained a status as shooting star of minimal with his releases on Freude am Tanzen and Vakant, he gilds 'Window Smasher' through squeezing Daniel's original into one of his typical pieces of minimal madness, rich of details and extremely forward. In comparison, the flipside is much more drawn back, showing Daniel's love for the morning hours in Berlin's crazed Panoramabar Club."

"With his stunning releases on Raum...Musik and Steve Bug's Pokerflat imprint, Argy aka Jobim's Cousin has earned himself a position as one of today's most promising producers. On Cargo Edition, the boy from Greece shows himself a bit more tool-like -- hypnotic percussions drive forward these two excellent dancefloor tracks. 'Comerte' (A1.) sounds like a bongo band playing live at the gym: this sound reminds us so perfectly of squealing basketball boots, doesn't it? Hopefully, your dancefloor is not slippery, either. 'La Revancha Del Bossa' (B2.) is a bit less forward, paving the way to Daniel Stefanik's remix of 'Comerte' (B1.) with nice bassline action. Speaking of the remix -- Mr. Cargo Edition himself keeps the crowd driving mad with three minutes of spurring synth modulation. See the people going wild when he finally drops in that redeeming bass drum."

His bass drum is never obtrusive but always compelling. Sven's tracks are ultimately funky, full of funny little sounds swirling around. "Michael Melchner is barely at the beginning of his 20s. Aged 18, he won a gig at Kiss Klub, the monthly party for electronic music in the Nuremberg in-location Die Rakete in a DJ contest. Ever since he is resident DJ there and he quickly made appetite-producing tracks by himself. At the moment deep house of the late '90s has to take a shine to him. In the detail it gets clear, that this is not only a copy of an epoch, but a certain vibe, which is going to be transferred into the present. This vibe with his warm sound, the well dosed house beats and a strong musical sense is hearable, but this sounds by no means antiquated. On the A-side, several instruments like percussion, xylophone and samples of a Mexican trumpet make sure that there isn't only an exiting variety shortly before or after the primetime, but also a proper portion of itchy feet. With the both tracks on the flip-side, the whole spectrum of Michael Melchner becomes clear: at the one hand a clear view on the dancefloor with classical house beats and on the other hand a musical character, which one misses in many current productions. 'Chen Chen' (B1) is slightly more complicated and more rhythmic whilst 'Nothing Happened' (B2) is a pleasing leaned back dramaturgical subtle house piece with a distinctive bass line and interspersed voice samples."

"House is back. Of course this music has not really been away, but for a couple of years the genre has clearly added some creativity and joy of play. You can convince yourself by listening to Vera Heindel from Frankurt/Main, who has become famous as a producer, after being a DJ in numerous important European clubs for several years. After releasing on the labels Oslo and Cyclical Tracks, her first solo EP now appears on Cargo Edition. 'People's House' reflects the elegance and the funk of house music in its purest form, but without denying the influences of the current club music. 'My Little Disco' shows up with a similar affection. With a few concisely placed chords and samples, Vera puts a breeze of disco on the house dancefloor -- very restrained and without any cheesiness, but with a small wink. With the 'Shakeyourbootymix' the disco reminiscence of 'My Little Disco' becomes even more apparent and it makes the track perfect for building up an encouraging party at the same time. Finally, Rhadoo forms 'My Little Disco' from house to minimal. The young man from Bucharest is part of the successful Rumanian trio Arpiar -- together with Raresh and Petre 'Pedro' Inspirescu. With gracefully built sounds and an insistent bass line, he accentuates selected elements of the original in a new way. The house vibe remains latently noticeable."

"There is no doubt that Leipzig is a pulsating place in terms of electronic music. However, the potential of the city seems to be experiencing a new surge -- not least due to up-and-coming producers like Sven Tasnadi and Stefan Schultz aka Juno6. Both belong to the generation of musicians who initially released their tracks for free on net-labels but have since have made the leap to vinyl. While Sven Tasnadi has already released great EPs on Liebe*Detail, Smallville Records and of course on Cargo Edition, Juno6 just recently made his debut with Salamis in spring 2008 on Broque. Now they have joined forces with their first collaboration for Cargo Edition. Both tracks on the EP are characterized by elaborate rhythms, a special deepness and intricately arranged sounds. 'Aramis' tells apparently different stories which merge seamlessly during its 14 minutes. The track also explores the hypnotic moments on the dancefloor in a very subtle and complex manner -- reduced but full of vibrancy at the same time. 'Genau so' on the b-side takes a similar line, but adds a spark of funk, which combines to form its distinctive rhythm. Sven Tasnadi & Juno6 have created two modern house tracks which are full of character."

"One year after his first EP on Cargo Edition, Kostas Tassopouls aka Ekkohaus delivers to the label another incredibly strong release. The native-born Greek, now living in Berlin, has developed into a skilled producer who rides the line between techno and house. The combination of reduced, hypnotic and impulsive arrangements with a subtle deepness are typical of Ekkohaus' sound, demonstrated perfectly in the two tracks of this EP. 'Unsound' is characterized by his smooth, almost elegant rhythm. A repetitive meandering vocal sample weaves through the track, sounding familiar yet haunting at the same time. The track is already played by many key DJs and is definitely to be heard more often within the next months to come. 'Moon Talking' focuses on a more standard vocal which gives the track some pop-appeal. At the same time, the introverted male vocal introduces a very catching harmony which will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the dancefloor. With this EP, Ekkohaus cements himself as one of the modern-house talents."

"After a recent guest performance on Seuil's Eklo label, Michael Melchner -- the young producer and DJ from Nuremberg -- is back with another stunning EP for Cargo Edition. Melchner is the resident-DJ of the Kiss Klub party series at Nuremberg's famous club Die Rakete, and music aficionados will have had their eye on this up-and-coming artist for a while now. This time around Michael Melchner dishes up three top-notch house tracks for us. 'You Understand' is techhouse at its best, where he deftly holds and rides that balance between deepness and the dancefloor. A continuously forward-pushing bassline is combined with a mysterious vocal sample and restrained breaks. 'Wooob' grabs you with its devastatingly simple rhythm, while the bassline cuts through with a high dose of funk. Topping the track off we have a vocal loop that shows off Michael's affection to the musical beginnings of house. This ties in nicely with the EP closer 'Just A Skip' which reminisces over the sound of Chicago. Profound melodies, skillfully arranged vocal samples and a whole heap of soul suggest that Michael Melchner may just have produced a modern house classic. So again, just like on his first EP for Cargo Edition in May last year, Michael Melchner has managed to paint a musical portrait combining the present and the past into one classic moment."

"Over the last year a new generation of young and ambitious house producers from Frankfurt to Mannheim have caused quite a stir. Vera Heindel is part of the scene in the Rhine Main area, which is the new centre for innovative and modern house and techno tracks, and People's House, her first release on Cargo Edition at the end of 2008 received huge attention from critics and fans alike. This time around Vera dishes up four top-notch house tracks for us that demonstrate her unique way of producing using reduction and funk, the two constants of her music. 'Jump The Hump' concentrates on two things: a devastatingly simple bassline and a vocal sample which gives the track a lightness and an understatement which you will seldom find in house tracks. Miss Fitz, Vera's project partner in Mara Trax, heads more to the dancefloor with her remix, but without giving up the special character of Vera's style. The B-side continues to drive with a high dose of funk. A clear organ chord gives 'Ling' both playful and elegant moments and with the vocal sample and the easy-going beats it becomes a typical 'Vera- track.The final track on the EP, 'Hallimasch,' is especially catchy, with its melodic and complex style triggering positive feelings all around."

"2009 is quite obviously Sven Tasnadi's year, having already released five EPs this year on cream-of-the-crop labels like Pokerflat, Ornaments and Liebe*Detail. Each EP revealed a new facet of the eipziger, riding the nuances between the 4/4 beat. After his EP Down Under Influence with Juno6 in spring 2009, Tasnadi now dishes up his new solo EP on Cargo Edition. 'What We Do' is a classic house track -- very deep and peppered with vocal shots that hold the tension of the track over its whole length. It's smooth, yet deliciously rough around the edges. 'Amour Fou' on the B-side surprises with a very compact rhythm -- around the driving bass drum fly percussive elements, all tied together by a reduced bassline, some interspersed vocal samples and deep chords."

"There is a new name on Cargo Edition, but by no means an unknown one. As a DJ, Markus Schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the Berlin Club scene. Markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo EPs and collaborations with Tom Clark on Highgrade Records and Opossum Recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. And now for his first EP on Cargo Edition, Markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. 'Drippin' is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of Sean Andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. In contrast 'Flippin' gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of 'less is more'. As a perfect ending 'Restart' surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. A truly versatile EP from a truly versatile producer."

Sven Tasnadi and Juno6 have demonstrated their skills individually on several labels and together on Cargo Edition. They make organic tech-house which does not settle for samples from too-often quoted sound libraries, but rather places emphasis on originality and good handicraft. "Pound Cake" exposes the roots of tech-house. A child's vocal nestles amongst a rough groove, providing the track with a sinister flair. "Take Eleven" concentrates on a simple beat which gives way to a vocal and strings theme.

White Winter Lust is the third release by Ekkohaus on Cargo Edition. "Ace Body" is a positive house track that doesn't need any cheap tricks. For the remix, label mate Michael Melchner acts discreetly and strips the track down to a plain beat to which he adds a variety of effects. "Dirty Mind" is a driving house tool with a groove that still fascinates you after hours of listening. "Parafumadores" is more jazzy and laid-back with a relaxed chord element.
