Title: Flight Box
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: 3CD
Price: $29.00
Catalog #: SNAJ 742CD
"The first rock group from San Francisco's psychedelic music scene to achieve national and commercial success, Jefferson Airplane defined the city's sound in their early days with their distinctive, soaring lead twin vocals from Grace Slick and Marty Balin, combined with the scorching guitar playing of Jorma Kaukonem. Together with Paul Kantner on rhythm guitar and vocals, bassist Jack Casady and drummer Spencer Dryden they produced some of the most inspired and influential music of the era.The legendary concerts featured in this 3-CD compact box set were recorded at famous venues in their hometown and capture the group at the peak of their powers. The first concert, recorded at Golden Gate Park on 5th July 1969 featured the group's classic line-up. As well as four numbers from their latest and most radically political album, Volunteers, it featured live favourites from the start of their career. These include their two biggest hit singles, 'White Rabbit' and 'Somebody To Love.' Also featured are a couple of comparative rarities in the form of one of their trademark improvised jams, plus the non-album and rarely-heard number, 'Uncle Sam Blues.' The second concert was the group's last-ever performance which took place at the Winterland Arena on 22nd September 1972. The songs featured were drawn mainly from the group's last two studio albums, Bark and Long John Silver. They also included a sprinkling of old favourites such as 'Crown Of Creation' and 'Somebody To Love,' the rarely-performed 'The Son Of Jesus' and several numbers from recent albums by Papa John Creach and the JA spin-off group Hot Tuna. Each of the set's discs is housed in its own wallet and this eye-catching package is further enhanced by its 20-page, lavishly-illustrated color booklet chronicling the events and circumstances of the two concerts."

Title: Camembert Electrique
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 009CD
Mid-line reissue from 2001 of this all-time classic. "The band's third album from 1971. Formed by Australian expatriate Daevid Allen in Paris in 1969, Gong made a name for themselves as one of the most innovative and unique bands of the '70s. Camembert Electrique, recorded in 1971, was the group's third album. A skillful blend of jazz-influenced space-rock, unconventional psychedelia and bizarre experimentation, it includes their classic 'Fohat Digs Holes In Space.'"

Title: Angels Egg
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 015CD
Mid-line reissue, originally released in 1973. "The companion piece to the 1973 album The Flying Teapot, Angels Egg is not your usual progressive rock album. Very quirky, with many, mostly brief compositions, the album is a tad less spacey than Teapot, with just a few psychedelic-inspired lyrics, and it's very technically adept. Angels Egg opens with a true space rock cut (one of the few on the album), filled with the usual Smyth space whispering and Daevid Allen voicings, then leads into the cleverly titled 'Sold to the Highest Buddha,' with Steve Hillage and Didier Malherbe as prominent figures. The instrumental 'Castle in the Clouds' finds Hillage coming into his own, with a sound identical to his solo work. 'Givin' My Love to You' sounds like a bar song, with no music and a cluster of seemingly drunken fellas trying to sing. The instrumental 'Flute Salad' gives way to 'Oily Way,' a showcase for Malherbe's jazzy flute. 'Inner Temple,' an instrumental space rock track, moves along with a jazz edge, provided by Didiers sax. The final three tracks are the real highlights on Angels Egg: 'I Never Glid Before' is a fantastic prog-rock tune, replete with blistering Hillage solo, primo Allen lyrics and vocal, and the precise percussion of new bandmember Pierre Moerlen. This eclectic composition travels through several movements and time changes, and comes across as a perpetually progressing piece. The imaginative and jazzy 'Eat That Phone Book Coda' brings the album to a close."

Title: Flying Teapot
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 025CD
Mid-line digipak reissue from 2005, originally released in 1973. "At the start of 1973, Gong, under the leadership of super-weirdo Daevid Allen, recorded Flying Teapot, the first part of what was to become known as their Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy. The album is an avant garde collection of sound effects, jazzy improvisation and comic vocals, all displaying the group's sense of humor and wacky approach to their music. Such titles as 'The Pot-Head Pixies' and 'The Witch's Spell' are perfect examples of their unique musical style."

Artist: 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS
Title: Easter Everywhere
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 132CD
2003 reissue. "This enhanced re-issue includes ten highly desirable bonus tracks in the form of live versions of eight songs from the group's debut album, recorded in Texas and San Francisco, an instrumental version of 'Levitation,' as well as a previously unreleased studio gem, 'I Don't Ever Want To Come Down.' One of the pioneer psychedelic groups of the '60s, The 13th Floor Elevators released four remarkable albums on the highly-regarded Texan label, International Artists. Fronted by the legendary and truly eccentric visionary Roky Erickson, the group has enjoyed sizeable cult status ever since their ground-breaking single, 'You're Gonna Miss Me' made the U.S. charts in 1966. Their first two albums are widely recognized as being landmarks of their era. The group's second album for International Artists, 1967's Easter Everywhere is essentially an extension of the sound of their debut album. Another bona fide psychedelic classic, its standout tracks include the eight minute epic 'Slip Inside This House' and an inspired cover of Bob Dylan's '(It's All Over Now) Baby Blue.'"

Title: You
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 148CD
Mid-line digipak reissue from 2003. Originally released on BYG in 1974. "You is undoubtedly the most sophisticated and best produced Gong album, its highlights including 'Master Builder,' a gentle Buddhist chant which developed into a frantic live favorite, and the extended, synthesizer-driven 'A Sprinkling Of Clouds.' One of the wackiest and most innovative groups of the early '70s, Gong's communal lifestyle and fascination with Eastern mysticism epitomized the hippy ideal of the day. Their music blended jazz-influenced space-rock, psychedelia and bizarre experimentation with a distinct sense of humor. Recorded in late 1973, You is the final installment of the group's Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy, made up by the earlier albums Flying Teapot and Angel's Egg. It was the last Gong album made before the departures of both its founding member and driving force, Daevid Allen and its inspired guitarist Steve Hillage, who was soon to embark on his highly successful solo career. You is undoubtedly the most sophisticated and best produced Gong album, its highlights including 'Master Builder,' a gentle Buddhist chant which developed into a frantic live favorite, and the extended, synthesizer-driven 'A Sprinkling Of Clouds.'"

Title: Magick Brother
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 199CD
Mid-line reissue from 2004 of this all-time classic. "Originally released by cult French label BYG in early 1970 under the joint names of Daevid Allen and Gilly Smyth, Magick Brother has long been recognized as being the first Gong album and it clearly displays the true beginnings of what was to come. The album was recorded in September of 1969, a couple of months before the official formation of Gong, Daevid Allen played guitar and took vocal duties on it, while his wife Gilly wrote all the songs and added her distinctive 'space whisper' vocals. This core duo were supported by a group of highly-accomplished musicians which included Earl Freeman, a jazz bass player who had worked earlier with Albert Ayler, Didier Malherbe playing flute and sax, pianist Burton Green and drummer Rachid Hoari. Containing some great songs such as 'Rational Anthem' and 'Gong Song' and featuring some fine distorted and processed guitar playing by Allen, Magick Brother has more than stood the test of time and still sounds fresh and full of charm. Presented in an attractive digipak gatefold packaging with Daevid Allen's now-classic 'Ph.P' original drawings and wacky liner notes in addition to authoritative new sleeve notes and only available intermittently over the years in the UK, this timely re-issue will be welcomed by fans of the group and '70s prog rock alike."

Artist: 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS
Title: Bull of the Woods
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 201CD
2004 UK version of the classic 3rd album, originally issued in 1969. "Classic final studio album now featuring 10 bonus tracks. Generally recognized as being one of the pioneer psychedelic groups of the '60s, The 13th Floor Elevators released four seminal albums on the highly-regarded Texan label, International Artists between 1966 and 1969. Leader Roky Erickson's involvement in the recording sessions for Bull of the Woods, the group's final studio album, was somewhat curtailed owing to his being sidelined by his increasing drug and legal problems. The group's guitarist Stacy Sutherland however, proved more than an able deputy for Roky and wrote most of the songs. The resulting album remains as another memorable slice of psychedelia. Roky's two contributions, the reverb-drenched 'May The Circle Remain Unbroken' and 'Never Another' along with 'Doctor Doom' are album highlights. This re-issue includes 10 bonus tracks. These include four outtakes from the Bull of the Woods sessions and includes a sublime acoustic reading of 'Splash 1,' one of the standout tracks from the group's debut album. The five 'live' titles are taken from the group's Live album, and are in fact studio recordings with overdubbed audience effects. As with last year's enhanced reissue of the group's other classic album, Easter Everywhere, the attractive digipak packaging faithfully reproduces the original artwork and includes an illustrated booklet with detailed sleeve notes."

Artist: 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS
Title: Going Up: The Very Best Of The 13th Floor Elevators
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 211CD
2004 release, single CD best-of collection. "The 20 greatest mind-blowing highlights recorded for the International Artists label between 1966 and 1969 by the pioneering psychedelic rock group. Featuring the groundbreaking single, 'You're Gonna Miss Me,' other classics such as 'Fire Engine,' 'Slip Inside This House' and 'May The Circle Remain Unbroken,' plus the recently discovered nugget 'I Don't Ever Want To Come Down' and a manic version of Van Morrison's garage classic, 'Gloria.' Fronted by the truly eccentric and iconic Roky Erickson, The 13th Floor Elevators produced some of the most inventive and memorable music of the era. Their often-menacing drug-fuelled songs with a potent combination of R&B, folk-rock and Kinks/Stones punk and stoned lyrics based on a nihilistic hippy philosophy have brought them cult status ever since."

Title: The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 225CD
2005 edition. "Fronted by the truly eccentric and iconic Roky Erickson, The 13th Floor Elevators produced some of the most inventive and memorable music of the era. The intensity of this classic debut album has been rarely matched -- the influence it has had over the years upon everyone from The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and The Stooges through to The Spacemen Three, Julian Cope and so many of today's young hopefuls, is testament to its magnificence. Released in 1966 on the highly-regarded Texan label, International Artists, it lays claim to being the first psychedelic rock album and was certainly the first to use the term in a title. As well as the group's groundbreaking hit single, 'You're Gonna Miss Me,' it includes several other classics of the genre, such as 'Reverberation (Doubt)' and 'Fire Engine.' This enhanced re-issue includes ten bonus tracks. Eight of these are atmospheric live recordings from the era -- they vividly capture the heady atmosphere of the group's early gigs. These include their psychedelic takes on such '60s classics as 'The Word' and 'Gloria.' The two other bonus tracks are both sides of the single Roky made with his earlier group, The Spades -- his initial stab at 'You're Gonna Miss Me.' As with our earlier enhanced reissues of the group's Easter Everywhere and Bull Of The Woods albums, the attractive digipak packaging faithfully reproduces the original artwork, in this case, one of the most famous album images of the '60s. As well as new and authoritative updated notes, the accompanying illustrated booklet reproduces in full the original album's famed and truly off-the-wall introduction and individual track notes."

Artist: SMALL FACES
Title: Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 289CD
"One of Britain's most influential bands of the '60s and a major influence on the new wave of Britpop bands, the Small Faces hit their creative and commercial high point with their psychedelic concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. A bona fide classic, it was released on the famous Immediate label in the summer of 1968 and went straight to the number one spot in the UK album chart and remained there for six weeks. A heady bled of cockney music hall humor, tough rock numbers, blues and psychedelia, it spawned two of the group's biggest hit single in 'Afterglow (Of Your Love)' and 'Lazy Sunday.' The six tracks which made up side two of the original LP are introduced by Stanley Unwin, one of Britain's most popular comedians of the day renowned for his inventive use of English. The fourteen bonus tracks are other highlights from the group's time with Immediate Records from 1967 to 1969. As well as hit singles such as 'Itchycoo Park,' 'Here Come the Nice' and 'The Universal,' these include live recordings of 'Tin Soldier' and their 1966 Decca number one single 'All Or Nothing,' plus their memorable duet with label mate P.P. Arnold."

Artist: JEFFERSON AIRPLANE
Title: At The Family Dog Ballroom
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SNAP 293CD
2007 release. "Recorded in September 1969 when the group was at the peak of its considerable power. Only recently unearthed from the archives, this release is sure to be most welcomed by all fans of prime West Coast psychedelia from one of its finest exponents. It is arguably the finest of the three in terms of the inspired performances here, the featured songs, and the fact that it has remained virtually unheard for so long. It features the classic group line-up of Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals), Grace Slick (vocals), Marty Balin (vocals), Jorma (lead guitar, vocal), Jack Casady (bass) and Spencer Dryden (drums). For the closing 26-minute 'Jam' they are joined by the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, whose distinctive guitar sound adds a new and unique dimension to the group's sound. 'Come Back Baby,' never recorded by the group in the studio, features a rare lead vocal from Jorma Kaukonen. Old favorites 'Crown Of Creation' and 'Somebody To Love,' along with five new numbers from their forthcoming studio album Volunteers make this a must-have release for fans, old and new alike. Taken from the best available audio sources, these superb performances have been meticulously restored for this inaugural release."

Artist: QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE
Title: Castles In The Sand
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SNAP 297CD
"First authorized release of a one-off informal studio jam session by the classic later line-up of one of San Francisco's quintessential bands. One of the first studio sessions by Quicksilver's then new line-up of Dino Valente (vocals), John Cipollina (guitar), David Freiberg (bass & vocals), Greg Elmore (drums), with the British session pianist Nicky Hopkins. Mainly acoustic, it took place in Corte Madera, California in late 1969/early 1970. The sound and mixes are excellent. The songs are often spontaneous, spare and unfinished in places and were likely intended as references for later development by the group. As such they offer a fascinating work-in-progress glimpse of this highly-talented group of musicians re-inventing themselves and developing new material under studio conditions. Most of the songs, a couple of them running for nearly nine minutes each, were never to appear on album, although they featured in the group's concerts. As well as working on new songs such as 'Subway' and the rarely-performed 'The Fool,' the band run through several country, gospel and blues standards that they were familiar with, such as 'I Know You Rider,' 'Walk In Jerusalem,' Hank Williams' 'May You Never Be Alone' and Cindy Walker's 'Warm Red Wine.' The booklet's sleeve notes cover the group's circumstances at the time of the recordings and the featured songs."

Artist: GOLDEN DAWN, THE
Title: Power Plant
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SNAX 602CD
"International Artists Records produced some of the most innovative records to come out of Texas's thriving rock scene of the late sixties. One of the most influential independent record companies of its day, it has gained cult status over the years amongst fans of prime American psychedelic and garage rock. One of the label's groundbreaking acts were The Golden Dawn, who only released this one album (and no singles) during their short recording career -- they broke up soon after the album's release. An acknowledged psych classic, Power Plant is here re-issued as a limited edition deluxe digi-book. The album features inspired acid-spiked folk rock guitars and intelligent psychedelic-inspired lyrics. The emotional range is remarkable for a debut album -- from the searing acid punk of 'Evolution,' through the classic pop-inflected psych of 'My Time' into the brooding introspection of 'Reaching Out To You.' The accompanying 16-page illustrated booklet includes an insightful interview with the group's leader and driving force, George Kinney, in which he gives an unique track-by-track run-down of the album's songs."

Artist: BUBBLE PUPPY
Title: A Gathering Of Promises
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SNAX 603CD
"The Bubble Puppy were International Artists' second biggest act in terms of chart action after The 13th Floor Elevators and enjoyed a degree of commercial success with their distinct high-energy, hippy rock-pop sound and look. Formed in San Antonio in 1967, their first 45 waxing, the brilliant Hendrix-inspired 'Hot Smoke & Sassafras,' combined hard rock with fresh vocal harmonies and reached #14 in the U.S. charts in March 1969. The resultant album from that year, A Gathering Of Promises, featured more of the same raw, garage-psych sound and was equally strong. Somewhat removed from the deep acid psych of the Elevator's Easter Everywhere or The Golden Dawn's 'Power Plant IA albums,' it is a highly enjoyable album and stands as one of the International Artists' most refined rock efforts. This edition of the album includes both sides of the group's four singles as bonus tracks, four of which were not on the original album, whilst two of the other sides were different mixes to the album versions." Comes in a deluxe digibook with 16-page booklet and International Artists catalog.

Artist: LOST & FOUND
Title: Everybody's Here
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SNAX 608CD
"Originally known as The Misfits, Lost & Found came together in Houston in 1965, changing their name just prior to undertaking a six-month residency at Houston's Living Eye Club -- one of the centres of the area's thriving psychedelic scene. Like anyone who frequented the club, smoked the odd joint and worshipped at the altar of The 13th Floor Elevators, they became friends with Roky Erickson. He in turn introduced them to Lelan Rogers of International Artists, who promptly signed them up. The group's sound displayed a marked Byrds and Love influence, which doubtless stemmed from the time they had spent in L.A. A planned follow-up album for International Artists unfortunately never came to fruition after the band disintegrated after a 30-day Texas tour with national garage gods The Music Machine. Band member Peter Black later joined Endle St Cloud." Comes in a deluxe digibook with 16-page booklet and International Artists catalog. Includes three bonus tracks: "When Will You Come Through," "Professor Black" and "25 MPH."

Artist: ENDLE ST CLOUD
Title: Thank You All Very Much
Label: CHARLY (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SNAX 609CD
"Formed in Texas in 1968 by Alan Melinger (ex Iguanas), aka Endle St Cloud, David F Potter (ex East Side Kids) and Peter Black (Lost And Found), the group released their debut single under the name Endle St Cloud In The Rain. A little later, prior to recording this album, James Harrell, also from Lost & Found, joined. So, not surprisingly, the Lost & Found influence was pretty evident, with two of the album's original tracks having been released by Lost & Found as their final International Artists single. Most of the album's songs have a spoken introduction over a piano backing (each in a very different style ), whilst the music itself ranges from good time blues to country rock with a leaning towards the heavy, not unlike that of their West Coast contemporaries Moby Grape. Theirs was the last album to be released by International Artists and the group later metamorphosed into Porter St Cloud." Comes in a deluxe digibook with 16-page booklet and International Artists catalog. Bonus tracks: "Tell Me One More Time (What's Happening To Our World)" and "Quest For Beauty."
