Despite being a major part of house music's history, club life, rave experiences, cat walk jobs in the fashion industry, and over hundred co-operations with producers and a dozen labels, Robert Owens remains a moderate, down to earth person. After the 2008 released album Night-Time Stories on Compost, which featured eleven new tracks by eleven different producers, this time he teamed up with four producers over 19 songs, to get a stronger, homogeneous album in various moods and tempi. Alongside his old time friend and house pioneer Larry Heard (Fingers Inc), Atjazz, Beanfield and Show-B, all approved and respected producers for working with vocals, able to slow it down or keeping the emotional house vibe at attested BPM's. Art offering not only more songs, but also it offers more variety. The first disc, Vault 1, contains the down- to midtempi more reflective tunes, while Vault 2 moves through Robert's house history in the old and new school vein.

This is the debut full-length album by Joash, a London-based producer who started his musical career as a drummer. Long before, he developed a love for dance music, buying early records by Plastikman, Laurent Garnier and other techno pioneers. At the same time, having borrowed a Serge Gainsbourg album from a friend, Joash was blown away by the mixture of jazz and orchestral sounds that still sounded fresh. He started listening to many old maestros including Lalo Schifrin, Krzysztof Komeda and Ennio Morricone, as well as more recent acts such as 4Hero, The Cinematic Orchestra and Xploding Plastix. From jazz artists to techno producers, all have played their part to influence the music that he produces now. Since his debut track "Salome" was selected for Compost Record's highly-acclaimed Future Sound Of Jazz compilation, ("Salome" was played by Gilles Peterson more than one time on his Worldwide show), Joash has been working hard to create Don't Fear It, Fight It. Here comes some surprisingly silver, shimmering nu-electronica. If someone may know the Penguin Café Orchestra from their most successful period of the early '80s, perhaps this music can be described as the repetitive 2011 modern electronic version of P.C.O. The album fuses dancefloor sounds and jazz rhythms with orchestral arrangements and the result is a deep and beautiful soundscape of strings, complex drum patterns and atmospheric electronics. This is the debut full-length album from Pitchben on Compost Records. The story of Pitchben is one about consistency. It's the '80s. A young boy is growing up to the soundtrack of electro funk, drawing influence from the likes of Jackson, The Whispers and D-Train, developing a genuine passion for music. This root of funk has been a constant since his childhood. Exploring new territories in the '90s, Pitchben, known as M-Tech at the time, started to DJ and produce at the young age of 13. Working the turntables like an instrument, he became one of the key figures in the world of scratching and turntablism. In 2002, he won the German DMC finals with a scratched interpretation of Break Machine's "Street Dance." Since this rather intense excursion, Pitchben has been focusing on production, sound-design and audio engineering, crafting his own music and also co-producing the works of other artists such as six-time DJ World Champion, Rafik. Unsatisfied with the home-studio path that has been taken by most contemporary musicians, it is has become his mission to not only bring back that authentic '80s sound, but to join the authentic production style of that era with a modern touch. This means: real scores for authentic string and brass sections were recorded by top-notch musicians while the featured vocalists present skill levels easily comparable to those of '80s singers. This teams up with huge synths and drums, creating the fresh, big sound that can only be produced in a modern studio environment. In 2010, Compost Records signed Pitchben for a full-length album immediately after receiving only a two-track demo. Pitchben is currently preparing for live appearances consisting of a DJ set and a full stage show featuring a live guitarist, electric bass player and vocalists.

Most of the tracks on Vol. 12 are reminiscent of the vibe of the first two or three editions of this series, especially the slower tunes. As the people at Compost explain: "I can state: since 2007 until the end of 2010, I have had a bit of a lack (with regards to content), neither did I feel there was a need, nor did I feel the hedonic lust to compile another FSOJ. Well, there were a few good tunes out there that period, but not enough to carpenter and pre-package a whole compilation I would be proud of. Allowedly, between 2007 and 2010 I was, like many others, caught by the disco-, edit- and deep house fever. Well, I still have this temperature, but nowadays such music is going to fuse more with the vibes and ingredients which I was prospecting for FSOJ. My stronger forage for FSOJ tunes started in 2010 and was tightened up in 2011, while I got a déjà-vu: a lot of great future jazzy tunes, very interesting projects are around these days, which are close to the aesthetic of sound and feeling of the early and mid-'90s. Anyhow, since Vol. 1, there have been two totally new generations, now all grown up. I think, the younger projects here (for example: Lo Tide from Australia, Anchorsong and Ragout DeLapin, both acts from Japan, Scrimshire, Letherette, Laszlo, Sepalcure, Eden, Ensemble Du Verre) reflect this. Third album from Germany's Marbert Rocel, combining deep electronica, minimal house textures and jazz with classy pop music. Rocel spend most of their time looking out of the window and smoking. Then they make music, someone draws for a while, and they soon go back to looking out of the window and making music. Marbert Rocel are twinkle-toed, and yet hardly tangible when you try to grasp them. They combine dance music with songs, songs with cookies and, in turn, cookies with dance music. Therefore, Marbert Rocel spent a lot of time touring -- playing gigs in Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, indoors, outdoors, on the roof, in the cellar, in small groups, in front of many people, and in front of very many people. At a concert on Enceladus in 2010, Marbert Rocel met Martin Kohlstedt. He seemed to fit perfectly to the band and behind the Rhodes, thanks to his constant eight-armness and his tiger stripes. Marbert Rocel live in a flat share in Leipzig. The sound of a kick resounds daily. Sometimes, four guys are sitting in four different rooms and tweaking four different tracks. On rare occasions you can hear the piano sounding from the flat below. This album deals with the all-too human abiding themes of love, lonesomeness, a sore throat or disappointment, and describes a progression from the early evening hours to the early morning hours. The time in which one reflects, dances, whines or simply smokes and looks out of the window.

Discover one of the last U.S. cult bands from the creative early '80s disco and post-punk period. Indoor Life -- an undisputed delightful blend of rock, new wave and hypnotic grooves, at that time often compared and collated with Tuxedomoon. Their first EP from 1980 was recorded by the legendary producer Patrick Cowley. The four piece consisting of J.A. Deane, Bob Hoffnarr, Joseph Sabella and former Patrick Cowley collaborator Jorge Socarras (who has recently formed the duo Fanatico together with Mathias Schaffhäuser) was the epitome of New York's flourishing underground scene in the early 1980s. Indoor Life gave a strong impetus to Europe's electronic music scene of the 1980s. Their records were released on their own Indoor Life imprint and renowned labels like Celluloid, Elektra and Relativity. On two CDs, Elaste Records and Compost "Curated" Records release the complete Indoor Life catalog. CD1 contains their debut EP Indoor Life and the first self-titled album. CD2 comes with the EPs Relativity, Searching and Sunshine Superman, plus alternative mixes, bonus and remix recordings (six of them previously-unreleased). All material has been digitalized, re-mastered from original reels or vinyl, and includes previously-unreleased bonus tracks and remixes by Soft Rocks, Quaid, Mathias Schaffhäuser, Discodromo, and more. More remixes will follow on vinyl. The CD artwork and poster were designed by Thomas Elsner in conjunction with Michael Reinboth, founder and publisher of the legendary magazine Elaste (1980-1985). The 2CD set contains a poster with photos, quotes and liner notes by Thomas Meinecke (FSK/Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle), Bruce Geduldig (Tuxedomoon), Jon Hassell (Fourth World), Stuart Matthewman (Sade), Finn Johansson (Macro Recordings), Mike Thorne (producer for Wire, Soft Cell, Nina Hagen, Bronski Beat, Siouxsie And The Banshees, and Laurie Anderson, amongst others).
