Title:
Bleak Existence
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 004EP
2001 release by Mike Shannon. "Does not deserve its rather doom laden title. In fact the music far outweighs this mood, like a more pronounced, up-for-it version of the Akufen sound. Minimal teknofunk still; just as sassy, yet more open chested and full on somehow. Useful cuts all three, favourite though has to be the digital dubby expanses of 'Soul drinker'." -- Boomkat.

Price:

CYN 010EP
Repress of this 2003 EP. "Mike Shannon returns with three new tracks of lean, no-nonsense techno. His handling of the syncopated shuffle, an earmark of most of his work, has been honed and refined into each track's starkly melodic underbelly, while his deft and at times subversively erratic use of keys delivers an atmosphere that is as chilling as it is exuberant."

Title:
Blastula EP
Label:

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 011EP
2004 release. "Following in the same vein as some of his Montreal based predecessors Mossa brings us one step closer to defining the Montreal sound. Using a formula very familiar, yet tainting the formula with his own signature style of sound processing and sequencing. His jazz/funk background echoes through his works. Mossa's productions have an element that lacks in a majority of electronic music today.Soul and funk. "Blastula" is a low fi tech house masterpiece. Paying homage to the Cynosure sound this track has all the right elements."

Title:
Don Julio's Converseria EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 015EP
"The Bucci Brothers are back with an EP dedicated to their favorite empanada pie house in Santiago Chile. Andres and his brother Pier have been busy over the years, searching for the ultimate empanada and working with label's like WMF, Candensa, Multicolor and Lo-fi stereo. Rancho Shuffle's synth progresses toward adolescence after the pre-ramble of animation in the voice of a sixty-year-old Chilean empanada chef/chess master named Don Julio. We start from the aquatic muse in the each honey-soup-synth; the wet bass plods forward into the sensual sex vocal all the while styling on a groove that alludes to the night heat and the incongruity of time. A chippy introduction gravitates towards dollops of viscous Mushroom funk. The genesis groove and the squirts of cadence make an allusion towards synchronicity. The track spatters: You need sneeze screens against an immensity that comes like a seamless dream dropping into the well of a lucid awareness. A warm directive, works like warm hug or a fond memory. You can relax now, there is nothing but instinct to guide your limbs and nod your head. It's not level terrain, no, the glitch and the clutch simmer as a bell and a whistle. This would a transmutation if only the song would keep still. Ordered flux is the name of the game."

MARSHALL, ADAM
Title:
Remote Culture
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 016EP
"Adam Marshall made his beginning as underground techno house DJ sharpening his notoriety with his killer label in proper conjunction with his years as a resident DJ at the infamous Blue nights in Toronto. His highly combustible audio-avatar, the
Remote Culture
EP, is the latest aural incarnation to bless Cynosure Records. Starting out with the stripped down 'Magnum' a bass forward no looking back grinder that will put most sound systems through the paces. Aggrieved bass hooks full of limiter melting subs are lobbed at the ear reinforced with Marshall's depleted-uranium techno that is pimp-slapped with swingy house percussion...there is a dub sensibility mired in the bass-line with delayed stabs done in the vein of the Berlin Basic Channel camp. Marshall has made manifest a truly remarkable and essential 12" with nothing but pure mixing appeal."

SIEG ÜBER DIE SONNE
Title:
Sovjet Supreme
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 017EP
"The dynamic duo that is Sieg Über Die Sonne have been writing music and releasing together since the early nineties. Chilean born Martin Schopf aka Dandy Jack brings 'el fuego' to this collaboration whilst Frankfurt native Tobias Freund aka Pink Elln balances this project with a golden ear and icy precision. The end result is a playful elevating sound with humorous intricate rhythm programming, polished off with a beautiful mix down.
Sovjet Supreme
is dives away from the sound of some of the previous albums and delivers a smooth linear unspoken homage to one of electronic music's purveyors. Ten minutes of deep electro bass backed with a driving 808-rhythm section designed for a peak time set. This is by far one of the duo's most timeless tracks to date. The B-side is a minimal house number that keeps things flowing. 'Regulär' is a snorkel deep groover that could easily have you diving into any house or minimal set. Again a ten minute subaquatic bass roller backed up by a classic 808 drum arsenal with a slight hint of Latin flare in the percussion programming."

SHANANIGANS FEAT. MORAL UNDULATIONS, JOHN
Title:
Jimmy's Lunch
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 018EP
"The captured visceral ambiance of the
Jimmy's Lunch
EP is Mr. Shananigans' full order of subversively succulent Canadiania: A filling tonic for those of strenuous appetites. The A side of the menu is entitled 'Bankrupt Bounce,' a bumping minimal house offering that manipulates all the right ear-buds with groovy dominance. This swinging bass-tainted track is packed with dirty 8-bit bacon sizzling drums and a freshly squeezed synth-line that goes straight to the hips. Moral Undulations returns from previous Shananigan projects on side B's 'Old Blue Spiritual.' Backed by a sharp and punchy minimal production MU provides exceptional service with a lyrical hot drink that sermons through the willing fascism of tasteless mindsets at the giddy joyspeed of caffeine. The final helping is the second B-side deep cut called 'Bite Yours' which wraps things up with a sunny-side swinger of a groove. The essence of techno-jazz dribbles through this track with molten layers of hi-carb synth sequences sopped up through the phat bounce of low end and live drum samples."

DEADBEAT/MONOLAKE
Title:
Random Brown EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 019EP
"The long awaited return of Deadbeat on Cynosure has finally come. This time Deadbeat appears alongside guest remixer, producer, programmer, techno legend Monolake.
Random Brown
is a rarity of an EP due to Monolake's sparse appearances as a remixer. Both artists also take a much different approach to these remixes than what would be considered their signature styles. Deadbeat dives away from his usual ~scape dub style and fuses his signature use of sub lines and lust atmosphere into a straight up 4/4 on the floor showdown. The
Random Brown
venture starts off with Deadbeat's original and delivers a dose of shuffled, slinky, digital brown that simply evokes dancefloor madness. Drippy liquid like filters pop and bounce through the mix as rolling bass lines keep the funk alive whilst a melody from some other planet creeps over Deadbeat's audio debauchery. Give it a flip and you'll hear what Monolake has to say about it. Bringing things back to the basement, Robert Henke slaps the funk right out of Deadbeat's original with an industrial like reverb and summons forth a layer of darkness unwitnessed to these ears. With a stomping configuration of beautiful menace, Monolake takes things back to the early days of Tresor in Berlin. The
Random Brown
EP collaboration is not the first time Deadbeat and Monolake have combined their skills on musical excursions. Both have played live together and via the web at several festivals including Berlin's Transmediale and Montreal's infamous Mutek festivals. This EP is most definitely the yin of techno's future and the yang of techno's repast all summed up with two extraordinary mixes."

Tactile Blue EP

CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 020EP
"So Cynosure's 2007 releases start off with a three-part series from Cynosure's flagship artist Mike Shannon entitled 'Tactile.'
Tactile Blue
is the first part in the series that features some of Mike's kicking deep minimal techno that made his reputation what it is. 'Burbuja Azul' is a hard, dirty groovin' jacker designed for burning the dancefloor. An aggressive combination of swingin' percussion and funky electro basslines that easily claim its rightful place on the A-side of this EP. The B-side 'Ghost Writer Blues' starts off with a slow introduction of intricate percussion programming interweaved with a classic melodic synth hook that doesn't let you forget. An instant classic that I'm sure will resonate on dancefloors for years to come."

Tactile Red EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 021EP
"The second part of the Tactile series from Mike Shannon.
Tactile Red
features some of Mike's kicking deep minimal house that made his reputation what it is. '8bit Rojo' on side A is a hard dirty groover. Starting off as a straight-up jacker that over a three minute progression turns into a heavy peak time cut. With low rez processing throughout the percussion and overdriven subs the name of the game of this track is dirtiness. Bouncing underneath the dirt is a slick gliding bass line that slides down from 100hz to 40hz. Sure to work the dancefloor from peak time to down time. The B side 'Red Tide' is a deep headstrong slow builder that elevates like an induced acid frenzy. Rising up to a twisted break that swims in the tactile oasis and feeds the listener a sonic view of the shadowscape. Binded with a swingin' deep after hour style groove this cut is sure to keep this release a timeless one. Mike Shannon keeps pushing the direction of things using the finest elements of house and the sound design that fuels great techno. Leaving you with a sound that is familiar but not exactly something you've heard again and again."

Title:
Tactile Green EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 022EP
"The third and final part of the Tactile Series
Tactile Green
features Mike's deeper, slightly melancholic deep techno house tracks. Detroit-inspired 'Devotional' starts off with an underlay of brushed snare, jazz ride loops and crispy digital atmosphere that leads into layer upon layer of warm synth that simmer and build up for minutes. Finally dropping into a 909-backed groove that drives the track to a stripped-down finish leaving only the synth bass and kick. The German slang for street organ 'Quetschkomode' is a goofy house track inspired by an off-kilter walk past an old gypsy street organ player in Deutscheland. After stumbling back to the studio, the organ somehow managed to manifest itself into the track as a crazy arpeggio-like synth line. Underlined with a shuffling slick groove that keeps things grinding over 9 minutes.
Tactile Green
concludes the series with a schitzo sense of humor, sadness and sonic diversity that leaves one standing on the 8am dancefloor swimming in tears of joy."

SLG
Title:
Slapback EP

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 023EP
"SLG aka Lukasz Seliga is one of Poland's rising minimal techno producers and live performers. Hailing from Lodz, Poland, he has been producing electronic music from his early teenage years, focused on performing live sets. Over time, Lukasz gained respect as one of the top minimal-techno performers in the Polish underground. SLG has developed his unique style, blending raw minimal techno, funky grooves, and glitch/IDM-inspired sound design. He tries to avoid monotony and tries to translate different moods into the language of music, while at the same time, keeping his style original. Poland's SLG has been making waves with his last few releases and now delivers his finest work to date entitled the
Slapback
EP. The A-side, 'Slapback' is a peak time, funk-packed rave destroyer with all the right moves. Shuffled grooves, doubled kick drums, slick edits and a monster hook equals a prime time bomb. Tried tested and true, this cut is sure to raise the roof."
Artist:
FERREYRA, ERNESTO
Title:
Éxodo EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 024EP
"Hailing from the midlands of Argentina's Cordoba, Ernesto Ferreyra's musical past is fruitful with many years under his belt as a DJ. Holding down residencies from Mexico City to Montreal, Ernest is no stranger to the mix and makes it very clear on the
Éxodo
EP. One half of Montreal's Chic Miniature, Ferreyra wields the right combination organic southern hemisphere style percussion with synthesized drums and a volley of monophonic madness that will surely activate the floor. The last 'Shooter' uses mind-bending funk to tell the story of three people ending an epic day/night in a blaze of Jagermeister glory. The most descriptive element of this tracky adventure would be the misguided, off-kilter synth twists that give the listener the illusion of drunkenness and vertigo. Backed with a spine of Latin percussion and tweaked low rez hi-hats this A-side packs a punch that can be only compared to 'the last shooter' of the night. Funk flows on when you flip it to side B. 'Fongtom' rides along with a thick walking bass line that weaves grinds with some of Ferreyra's signature percussion. A playful melody serves as the memory game hook that won't fade away even after a post joint meltdown or a night of MTV Top 40 abuse. Smoother than silk, sweeter than honey, Ernesto Ferreyra's
Éxodo
shines a new light on the Argentine minimal sound."

MONOBLOCK
Title:
Esas Cosas EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
CYN 025EP
"Uruguay, Monte Video's dream team Monoblock have first emerged on the European scene in 2006 by appearing on a few different labels from Freak n Chic to Archipel... turning some heads with their unique sound and then throwing it down live and stealing the show at Valencia's Electro Splash beach festival in 2006. Now Martin Tc and Guikle are about to join the Cynosure family and raise the bar for the label once more. 'Sugar Morph' is a magical blend of stripped-down South American grooves combined with a slick synth bass hook and layers upon layers of deep effects and modulated percussion. Already catching the attention of a few DJ greats, this track is sure to weave into many crates this summer. On the flipside, Monoblock keep the flow with 'lalala.' An excellent number designed for a sweet dip in the mix followed by the ultra-funky, tweaked house groove, 'Untone.' Super shuffled layers of quirky percussion lay the carpet for a power house Rhodes/bass drop. With an ultra-funky walking bass line taking control of the groove and driving things to a boiling point."

HENNING, MARK
Title:
Sick Note EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
CYN 026EP
"London's Mark Henning has risen up as one of the international underground's true players. Recording for a volley of acclaimed European labels by night and slaving at a corporate database job by day. But recently freed from his position as one of London's finest corporate whores, Mark Henning makes a bold move and takes off the 9 to 5 shackles to join the legions of starving artists world wide. Leaving the corporate world behind with the
Sick Note
EP. 'Sick Note' is a clear example of what Mr. Henning has done to make his reputation what it is. Delivering razor sharp drum programming, twisted effects, slick chord bass progressions and interwoven rolling bass lines . A timeless deep techno original. On the flip, Mark shows you the darker side of house with 'Vriggle.' Dropping a dark FM style bass line engulfed in a world of digital effects and processing. Backed with a powerhouse groove and a synth stab reminiscent of of the early Detroit sound. Full of Mark's signature breaks and clever moves, this track has just the right amount of give and take. Most definitely Mark's 'sickest' EP to date and certainly a welcome edition to the Cynosure catalog."

OSHKOPUN, IDO
Title:
Out Of Burma EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
CYN 028EP
"With a mystical nature Ido's musical touch wields both finesse and raw force displayed perfectly on side A with 'Rangun.' A combination of Roland 808 and CR-78 lay the percussive carpet for a lush ménage of melodic bone like percussion, classic strings and haunting Bermese vocals. Most definitely one of the most original tracks we've heard in some time. On the flip with 'Bpyinmana' Oshkopun follows up with a frenzy of classic drums a la CR-78 thrown into a cocktail of effects and edits that fizz over into a perfect drum dub. A tracky workout perfect for the most adventurous of DJs. Fans of ethno techno, traditional Burmese vocals, classic Roland drums and ultra funky edits will welcome this EP like sunshine on a rainy day. Most definitely an EP to eclipse your winter darkness and bring your spring into full swing. Searching for Ido? Ido Oshkopun can also be found on Hartchef Discos."

"The Boys from Uruguay are back with another burner of an EP. Monoblock's debut EP was in everyone's crate that knew anything about minimal techno and was rocked in sets from DJ Bobo to Richie Hawtin. Since then the boys have been one of the most sought after live acts in the world and continue to help keep the genre alive by delivering some seriously funky techno. The EP starts off with the ultra funky Roller called 'Rizco.' Not wasting any time Monoblock get right to it and roll out a carpet of percussion backed with some signature bouncing analog bass. A perfect combination of sounds running up and down the scale. Continuing down the same path, things strip back a little here with 'Dobason,' a more playful cut with the focus on the overdriven lead bass. Our old friends the 808 and 909 are there to play in the mix too. Then things in this track take a little melodic left turn and explore a dissonant direction that somehow leads you right back to where you started. Finally leaving you in the deep with 'Ombù,' a subterranean mixture sounding like Basic Channel meets Gotan project. A dreamy plucked synth soaked in reverb dances around some Uruguay style accordion and sequences of percussion. Molting with a deep sub roll and delayed chord stabs this track definitely shows off the musical abilities of this duo. Once again Monoblock write another EP that is sure to resonate on dancefloors worldwide this summer."
Artist:
JOHNSON, BRETT
Title:
The Pop Up EP
Label:
CYNOSURE (CANADA)
Format:
12"
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
CYN 030EP
"Brett Johnson is a household name in house music synonymous with super groovy, hip flexin' productions. We got in touch with Brett and begged for a little more of the funk and he came back to us with
The Pop Up
. Things kick off with a full-blown Chicago-style jack attack on the A-side with 'Sling Blade.' A rolling house groove, walking bass line and a low rez digital hook are the main ingredients here with some flashback induced effects sending things over the edge. Speaking of flashbacks, on the second cut 'The Way We Were' takes things back 20 years paying homage to the deep sound of the mid-'80s. Pimpin' ain't easy. Saving the best for last, Brett serves up his signature house sound with 'Space.' A bouncing melodic hook keeps popping up alongside some old school funk-packed bass, fused together with an underlie of groovy swung percussion. Things bubble and bounce up to beautiful melody that hit a mark that many house productions today fail to touch. And if all the melody was too much for you, well you've got the stripped-down 'Basstrumental' dub version to satisfy your mix. These cuts from Brett prove that certain classic elements of house will never die and never get tired. But he also proves that those elements can continue to be explored and redefined."
