This the first release on Desolat for Spain's Pulshar, who are emerging as true musical heavyweights, with compositions that traverse the borderlands between spacious song-craft and the futuristic outer-reaches of the dub-techno universe. After receiving widespread critical acclaim for his various solo projects and remixes in 2009, Inside sees Pablo Bolivar reunited with the tender tenor tones of Aphro Sainz. On tracks like "Da Creator" and "Montparnasse 2am," an easy house groove takes its time rolling out languidly, while mild melancholia, sample stabs and outer-space delays hark back to the heyday of On-U: a synthetic interpretation of King Tubby's legacy that would sparkle in the early hours at a tech-house beach party. "Montparnasse 2am" incorporates eerie soundtrack fragments that explicate the duo's love of classic cinema, and the penultimate track, "Above The Wall" provides another filmic fragment: with surf guitar twangs atop a blissful doo-wop haze. A little magic goes a long way, and the light shines bright on some of the more pop-filtered tunes, such as the whistling nuance of "United States Of Pulshar." With its plaintive, optimistic melody repeated like a hip-hop sample and burbling synth touches, it could stand as a manifesto for the project. "California State Of Mind" lassoes elements of today's West Coast beats scene and the synth-funk that preceded it, adding a tuneful dubby touch and letting everything melt together, while "S.T.A.R.S". and "Distant Fire" incorporate post-garage patterns and weighty bass, showing the full arc of dub's development. The two pay respect to their dub forefathers in a more literal manner on cleanly-polished gems like "Empty Suitcase" and "Stepping Stones," a collaboration between Pulshar and Roberto Sanchez, who is a leading figure in the European roots reggae scene. Pulshar encompass the world of reggae influences and incorporate everything in their own distinctive, forward-looking style.

Classically-trained jazz virtuoso and national rock 'n' roll hero in his native Argentina, Guti is no stranger to music. With his productions now being a regular feature in the record bags of DJs as diverse as Seth Troxler, Marco Carola, and Carl Cox, it is apparent Guti is enjoying a watershed moment in his long adventure. Lashings of his ever-present South American heritage fuse with incredibly intricate and perfectly simple house structures that give the whole album its almost "child at play" ethos that is rarely found in electronic music. Future club hits such as "Wanna Be," with its nod to the historical upbeat lineage of house music, and "All The Girls," with its chugging rhythm, trickling piano loops and erotic vocals sit effortlessly alongside more experimental and jazz-inspired tracks such as the explorative "Still Here." Another fine example is "Sun," with its deep bass line punctuated with the sun-soaked synths and summer hi-hats that export listeners away to a warm utopia. Guti produces a number of tracks with high profile artists from both within and outside the DJ fraternity: Guy Gerber features on "We Shall Overcome," with its rising synths complemented by a chunky beat. Ryan Crosson lends a hand on "No Promises" which has resulted in a truly driving dancefloor groove. And "My Whole Thing" features Anthea Marie Nzekwu whose uplifting vocals accompany a dreamy, chilled-out beat. Grünbox features on "Miraloo" -- an example of Guti's ability to collaborate with the world's musical elite. Notably, and perhaps the biggest coup, is that of Daniel Melingo who features on "Lucio El Anarquista." The Grammy-nominated tango singer and world-renowned musician is well known for his composition work on Pedro Almodóvar's films, and he brings a rich musical education to a truly sublime track. Overall, Guti gives up a beautiful mixture of tracks that bridge the space between the club and the living room with consummate ease.

This is the debut full-length album from tINI, an integral member of the Desolat family since 2009. Her album is named Tessa, after a music-loving friend who supported her transformation as a producer and DJ. It's not only islands that need to be travelled to: developing a sound is a true journey, and one's changing environments naturally play a role in that evolution. tINI, formerly of Munich, now resides in Berlin. Her version of house music is still representative of her electrifying, wired-up DJ sets, but there's a new spaciousness and urban gleam to these moods, filtered through the more laid-back, surreal atmospheres of the island of Ibiza, where the majority of the album was produced. Tessa kicks off with "Divided" as a statement of intent: this is no formulaic house music, but rather something personal and idiosyncratic. A contemplative mood sets the scene for gentle, off-kilter palpitations. "Blonde Galipette" settles into the groove, with plenty of delay on rhythmic elements as a robotic interpretation of lonely shipyard sounds, and a growing tide of bass. "Mine Has A Shower" is a wink to the adopted spaces and unlikely comrades of an island dedicated to music; while "All The Good Stuff" is a tongue-in-cheek salute, referencing the tales told to new friends in the deepest hours of the morning.
