Nurse With Wound and Dirter Promotions presents 3 sides of different mixes to 2008's Huffin' Rag Blues CD, 1 side with a great Steven Stapleton etching in dirty, dark, opaque blue vinyl. Another spectacular torrent of Dadaist experimental exotica from Steven Stapleton and Andrew Liles, with a suitably scattershot list of contributors and collaborators, including repeat offender Colin Potter (credited with "testicular randomization") and a host of "proper" musicians and vocalists prepared to undergo the NWW treatment. As with the companion release to this album, The Bacteria Magnet (DPROM 066PIC), Nurse With Wound are currently set on a creative trajectory that dismantles the auditory iconography of the '50s, marauding through eerie re-renderings of jazz club instrumentals, electroacoustic traffic sounds and skewed torch songs. As NWW albums go, this is probably among the more outwardly approachable releases, but in fact, it's the very proximity to the language of pop music that makes Huffin' Rag Blues all the more subversive. Dirter Promotions releases Und So Weiter by Kraut-psych band S/T from Frankfurt. This CD is the most accomplished work to date from this astounding band, who has released lavishly-packaged and mind-blowing material since 1993 that sounds like no other. Their previous releases have appeared on both their own Save Our Sperms and Get Happy imprints, as well as the label run by Hans Joachim Irmler of Faust, Klangbad. Andy Wilson, author of Faust -- Stretch Out Time and faust-pages.com web master says that "S/T are a classic Kraut rock group -- not in the sense that they sound like other Kraut rock groups, but that they take Kraut rock forward in a punk/songwriter direction." This is the first collaborative work from James Johnston and Philippe Petit (Strings Of Consciousness). As the track titles suggest, it is a homage to the golden era of horror movies. These two fiends wanted to conjure up blood-curdling and haunting soundscapes, playing with an unsettling ambiance of strings, piano, organ, electronics, guitar drone and feedback screech in order to create a contemporary soundtrack for those who like to be frightened. They strive to elicit responses of fear and terror from listeners, not, however, in the style of grotesque, blood-soaked slashers, but rather, from that kind of presence lying in the dark behind you or before you. This music is a creature that slowly bores its way into your body, instead of violently exploding in your face. The more attention you bestow on this record, the more unsuspected new paths you'll be invited to wander down. Philippe Petit's first solo album, Henry: The Iron Man originated from a dream that Japanese film director/actor Shinya Tsukamoto was working on a blurred remake of David Lynch's Eraserhead, and he was to soundtrack the grotesque mutation of Henry into an "Iron Man." As tantalizingly surreal as that sounds, Fiends With A Face is far more sinister, and acts on every single fight-or-flight instinct the listener may possess... each track the sonic equivalent of heart-pounding, stomach-churning dread.

Richard Pinhas is internationally recognized as one of France's major experimental musicians: the "father" of French electronic music. He was the founder of seminal space-rock band Heldon, a band whose violent fusion of electronics and guitar in the '70s rivalled the German electronic school. As a guitar player, he has been compared to Robert Fripp. Cited as an influence by many electronic musicians, Pinhas has helped to define the space music genre. Since founding Heldon in 1974, Pinhas has released over 15 albums, had involvement in dozens more and shaped the way we listen to music today. Masami Akita aka Merzbow is the forerunner of Japanese electronic music, and for the last 20 years plus, has been at the top of his game ploughing more and more extreme sonic territories. This release, recorded in Tokyo in October 2007, will surprise a lot of people in its sheer beauty. This is a collaboration that works in the true sense of the word, with each artist complimenting the other over six long, sprawling tracks, each occupying the whole of each side. Originally issued by Gary Mundy's own Broken Flag label in 1987 on cassette, this is UK noise/industrial/power electronics wizards Ramleh's Hole In The Heart, now expanded and remastered on a double CD set, also including material from their 1987 Nerve cassette release. Here at last, is part of the "missing link" in the long and ever-evolving history of Ramleh. This material bridges the gap between the (for want of a better description) early "power electronics" material and the (for want of a better description) later "noise rock." Neither of these terms do justice to this pioneering group led by Gary Mundy. To quote Anthony Di Franco (the other half of the band these days): "...swirling phased feedback, fuzzed vocals and guitars. At the same time there were melodies, words and structures in the music, which itself consisted of very simple electronic and acoustic elements magnified to a colossal scale...." This music has a harmonic beauty, if you look for it, that all its imitators lack. Listen and you will hear the genesis of what was to follow from many '90s underground bands such as label mates and close collaborators, Skullflower. This double CD set is packaged in the classic Broken Flag stark, monochrome style.

Dirter Promotions presents a recording that has been caught in a 13-year time warp and within the bizarre narrative of a humble Norwegian discussing "topical Belgian issues" from the very edge of West Yorkshire. This very strange recording sees former Mayhem front man Maniac (Skitliv, Sehnsucht, Bomberos) teaming up with Andrew Liles and Czral (Virus, Ved Buens Ende, Aura Noir, Dřdheimsgard) to release an album that he and Czral began working on in 1996. Det Skjedde Noe Nĺr Du Var I Belgia ("Something Happened While You Were In Belgium") occurred through happenstance: "It wasn't something we expected to do at all," explained Maniac. "Czral and I had recorded the original material all those years ago but other commitments had meant that we were never able to get round to finishing it off and releasing it, and I'd brought it with me to the UK for my manager to listen to just out of interest, but it was a DAT tape and she didn't have the right equipment for it. I was also visiting Andrew Liles who was mastering the new Skitliv album, and preparing to master the new Sehnsucht album, so we converted the tape in his studio. Andrew's enthusiasm for what he heard got the better of him, and we started working on it straight away." A sneak-peak track reveals warped electronics matched with keyboard swirls, found-sound voices, drones and other faraway, ringing effects. An intriguing project that sees the best of black metal's past merge with experimental/sound art, forming an intriguing, chimerical collaboration.

John Cage composed the piece "Radio Music" in 1956. It is scored in 8 parts (A-H) with each part to be performed either individually or together with other parts as an ensemble. The performers follow a score that is a sequence of radio frequency tunings and silent parts. Obviously, each time the piece is performed, it yields a different end result. Here are 4 solo versions on this limited edition 10" EP, performed by members of Faust (Jean-Hervé Péron and Zappi Diermaier) and Steve Pittis' project, Band Of Pain. All tracks were recorded live in the studio with absolutely no overdubs. The 10" vinyl EP is packaged in a superb gloss laminated sleeve and is strictly limited to 500 copies.

Dedicated to David Tibet and made in celebration of Current 93's 25th anniversary, this single captures the spectral heart of one of Current 93's defining pieces. Here Andrew Liles' (Current 93, Nurse With Wound) reconstructs what was originally the opening volley of Tibet's "Inmost Light" trilogy. 1995's "Where The Long Shadows Fall" was one of the key moments in Current 93's career. The combination of Tibet's lyrics, some achingly gorgeous music and, most significantly, that haunting loop of the last castrato, Alessandro Moreschi, made for one of the finest 20 minutes of music committed to tape. Only a madman would try and outdo the original, but Liles proves he is more than capable on this single.

Philippe Petit teams up with Throbbing Gristle's Cosey Fanni Tutti. These instrumental pieces were recorded long ago and then manufactured as unique vinyl units which Philippe Petit used during his sets. After many plays, their texture gradually changed, resulting in an alteration in sound. On ''Mist While Sleeping,'' Philippe takes advantage of the patina of age to elaborate a peculiar sound texture. However, to emphasize the aging on ''Invisible Whispers,'' Philippe used sandpaper. This beautiful picture disc 7" is limited to 350 copies worldwide.

Debut release from a band formed by Faust percussionist and German noise terrorist, Zappi Diermaier. Regular listeners to his work will know by now that Zappi doesn't do "conventional." The line up features: Karin Meier (voice), Johannes Bahlmann (keyboard, guitar), Fritz Renzo Heinze (bass guitar), the late Thomas E. Martin (sounds, guitar) and Zappi W. Diermaier (drums, tools). The shows they play are blasted out at ear splitting volume and in their own words: "The music of Derschlaeger is a combination of typical German 'schlager' music and kind of abstract and aggressive instrumental overlays. The lead vocals definitely represent the original harmonies and lyrics of the 'Schlager' whereas the vocalist's live performance has a more punky attitude. 'Schlager': typical German popular songs mainly from the '60s." The people at Dirter don't really have much to add to that, as this recording has to be heard to be believed; put simply -- you won't have heard anything like this. Ever.
