Title: Flex Your Head
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 007LP
"Flex Your Head was first released in January 1982 and was the first full-length album released by Dischord Records. The compilation features 32 songs by 11 DC area bands and went a long way towards 'putting DC on the map' as one of the era's great punk scenes. This album has remained in print, first on LP and later on CD, and has remained a perennial must-have for each new generation of kids looking to re-trace the roots and ethos of DIY punk. One of the unique features of the album over the years has been its revolving front cover image. The first pressing featured a generic stock cover with a classical music theme chosen from the pressing plant's catalog. Over the years there have been 4 different covers, the violin, the wheat field, the DC Flag and the blurry man. This new edition, which has been re-cut and includes a free MP3 download coupon, features the DC Flag stars and bars (on a red field), an image so associated with DC punk that many mistake it for a made-up symbol for straight edge. This cover image was also used (on a black field) for an edition of the album briefly pressed in conjunction with Alternative Tentacles in the '80s."

Artist: RITES OF SPRING
Title: End On End
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 016LP
"1984 was a time of redefinition within the punk scene in Washington, DC and Rites of Spring more than led the charge. Rites of Spring not only challenged the macho posturing that had become so prevalent, but more importantly they defied musical and stylistic rule. The people that followed the band made it a point to try to never miss a gig, as ROS seemed to approach every show as if it was their last. The results could be explosive, often resulting in the destruction of their equipment, and this may well be one reason that they ended up playing only about 15 shows. It was the boldness of this band that really contributed to the swell of energy, often referred to as Revolution Summer, that swept over the DC scene in 1985. In their brief existence Rites of Spring released one full length album (DIS016) and a 7" (DIS022) both on Dischord Records. Band members Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty went on to form One Last Wish and later joined Joe Lally and Ian MacKaye to form Fugazi. The Rites of Spring 12" LP is now being re-issued as part of the Dischord Records Remaster Series. The LP has been recut at Chicago Mastering Service (from the Silver Sonya masters) and will include a free MP3 download of the album."

Artist: EGG HUNT
Title: Me And You/We All Fall Down
Label: DISCHORD
Format: 7"
Price: $5.00
Catalog #: DIS 020EP
"In the spring of 1986 Dischord founders Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson (both formerly of Minor Threat) went to England to visit, and were invited by Southern Records founder John Loder to do some recording while they were there. Southern was operated out of a row house in a neighborhood called Wood Green, and John had a 24-track studio set up in the garage. They recorded four songs, including 'Me and You,' something that the two had been playing together in the basement for many years, and 'We All Fall Down,' which was written by Ian for Embrace, but had been passed on by the band. Having had such a good time recording and hanging out in London, Ian and Jeff decided to release a single to mark the occasion. The name was chosen since it was recorded over Easter weekend. That summer they tried forming a new band called Egg Hunt with ex-members of Gray Matter, but it wasn't meant to be. The Southern session would turn out to be the last time the two would record music together. This single is being re-pressed for the first time in over 10 years (on colored vinyl)."

Artist: GRAY MATTER
Title: Take It Back
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 021LP
"Gray Matter officially formed in the summer of 1983 but Geoff Turner, Mark Haggerty and Dante Ferrando had been playing in bands since their early middle school days. By early 1983, Dante and Mark were playing in Iron Cross, but when the band's image began to reflect its supporters more than the members themselves, Dante quit. Soon after Mark also left and the two reunited with Geoff and Iron Cross roadie Steve Niles and started playing shows around Washington, DC as Gray Matter. The band's first album, Food For Thought was originally released on R&B records in 1985 while the members were still in high school. Food For Thought was the name of Dante's father's restaurant (and Gray Matter's rehearsal space) and was soon to host many of the shows by Rites of Spring, Gray Matter, Embrace, etc. that gave rise to DC's Revolution Summer in 1985. The Take It Back EP, released in September 1986, was recorded in the immediate afterglow of Revolution Summer and features that era's raw melodic energy contained only by Gray Matter's impeccable song craft. Shortly after the EP's release Mark left DC to go to college and the band went on one of its frequent hiatuses. Gray Matter re-emerged in the spring of 1990 and released a 4 song double seven inch in 1991 (DIS58.5). The band released its final full-length, Thog in 1992 and continues to appear for one-off shows from time to time. In late 2008, Dischord Records began recutting much of our vinyl catalog here in the United States. We began by re-pressing current titles, and later re-issuing others, all re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service. This edition of Gray Matter's Take It Back has been expanded into a full-length LP with the addition of the 4 songs from the band's 1991 double seven inch. The vinyl was re-cut from original source tapes, is being reissued on colored vinyl and features a free MP3 album download coupon."

Artist: THREE
Title: Dark Days Coming
Label: DISCHORD
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DIS 033CD
"After recording the Egg Hunt songs in England, Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson (who had also played together in Minor Threat and Teen Idles) considered forming a new band. They played with Geoff Turner and Steve Niles of the recently disbanded Gray Matter. This line-up never got off the ground and Ian decided to leave and eventually formed Fugazi. The others carried on, and soon added another Gray Matter member, Mark Haggerty, and this line-up would become Three. Meanwhile, Steve had started his own comic book company, Arcane Comix, which he operated out of the apartment that he shared with Geoff on Swann Street in the Dupont Circle area of DC. It was this street that served as inspiration for the song of the same name, and the line 'these berries smell like shit' referred to the small fruits that dropped to the sidewalks from the Ginkgo trees on the block. Three did a few short tours, and recorded at Geoff's home studio as well as Inner Ear. Things were looking up for them, but the band self-destructed shortly before releasing Dark Days Coming in November 1989. The 12" LP featured songs from the Inner Ear recording while the CD also included 11 extra tracks from the band's home recordings. Shortly after the demise of Three, Geoff, Mark and Steve joined again with Dante Ferrando and reunited Gray Matter. Several of the Three demos included on the 'extra tracks' later surfaced on Gray Matter's album, Thog. Re-mastered from original tapes. Features newly updated artwork."

Artist: NATION OF ULYSSES
Title: 13-Point Program To Destroy America
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 057LP
"The Nation of Ulysses was a violent separatist political party and terrorist group operating out of Washington, D.C. in the early 1990s. Though they've disappeared into obscurity, they've spawned countless milquetoast imitators who've tried to appropriate their looks, language, sound and presentation for the sake of career advancement. These cheap imitators can't comprehend that the Nation of Ulysses derived their awesome power from their unswerving commitment to secession and havoc wreaking, and not to the banal and unimportant pursuit of fame and wealth. The N.O.U. is probably the most important development to beset music since electrification, as they were the first to articulate intent through written manifestos and stage histrionics, refuting rock'n'roll's traditional policy of posturing rebelliously while aping parent culture values. Features members of Chaing & the Gang, Weird War, Scene Creamers, and The Make-Up. Originally released in August of 1991." On transparent vinyl with printed innersleeve.

Artist: FUGAZI
Title: In On The Killl Taker
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 070LP
Fugazi's third album, originally released in 1993. Remastered with full color inner sleeve. "Part of this album's beauty is the track list. It begins with the upbeat number 'Facet Squared' which is almost pop-punkish in its delivery. Essentially the tracking of the album begins it with the lightest material and by the end you're cast into Guy's own torments with the quiet brooding 'Last Chance For A Slow Dance.' The middle of the album is almost completely dedicated to the noise experimental side of Fugazi, especially the centerpiece and half-instrumental '23 Beats Off,' a soundscape of harsh noise that supposedly reflects the deterioration of a relationship... With Guy's brilliant performance, lyrically and vocally, walls of sound encapsulate his pleas of 'Why don't you come to my house? Why don't you drag me right out?'. It is truly one of the most beautiful yet aggressive songs in Fugazi's vast library." -- Sputnik Music

Title: Red Medicine
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 090LP
Fugazi's fourth album, originally released in 1995. Remastered with full color inner sleeve. "For all its eclecticism, Red Medicine is rock solid, held together with seductive hooks, hummable melodies and an overarching continuity that takes the listener from the familiar Fugazi sound of 'Do You Like Me' and the aptly titled 'Back to Base' to the mesmerizing psychedelia and spare dub of 'By You' and 'Version.' This is an album for all fans of inventive guitar rock -- whether Fugazi like it or not." -- Rolling Stone

Artist: LUNGFISH
Title: Pass And Stow
Label: DISCHORD
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DIS 092CD
"The Lungfish band, from Baltimore, Maryland, has been performing and releasing albums on the Dischord Records label for more than 20 years. Pass And Stow was the band's fourth full-length album, released in 1993, and this recording marks the final appearance of original bass player John Chriest. Change was indeed in the air and Pass And Stow clearly documents the move from the band's post-punk roots toward a more hypnotic and signature sound that was to revolve more around Daniel's lyrical imagery with hints of the minimalist approach the band would adopt on later albums. Lungfish is now, as it often has been, quasi if not entirely defunct. However, since the release of the band's last album in 2005, Feral Hymns, singer Daniel Higgs (who is also an accomplished visual artist) has embarked on a burgeoning solo career, releasing albums on Northern Liberties, Thrill Jockey and Holy Mountain and showing his artwork both in the States and The United Kingdom. Asa Osborne is currently recording and performing solo material under the name, The Zomes. Re-mastered from original tapes. Features new updated artwork."

Artist: TEEN IDLES
Title: Anniversary
Label: DISCHORD
Format: 7"
Price: $5.00
Catalog #: DIS 100EP
"The Teen Idles founded Dischord Records in 1980 with the release of the Minor Disturbance 8-song 7"(Dischord #1), so it seemed appropriate that Dischord celebrated its 100th release in 1996 with a second single from the band 16 years later. This record consists of songs taken from practice tapes and early demos recorded in late 1979 to mid-1980. The music on this record was released not because we feel the songs are particularly amazing or necessary, rather it's because we think they are funny and cool, and because they represent us as we were: a bunch of high school punk rockers. The Teen Idles certainly didn't intend to start a label, only to put out a record, but it was a decision that led to at least 30 years of new bands and releases and the documentation of a community here in Washington DC." On swamp green-colored vinyl.

Title: Get Evens
Label: DISCHORD
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: DIS 160LP
"The Evens are a band from Washington, D.C. Ian MacKaye plays baritone guitar and Amy Farina plays drums. They both sing. Their debut album was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in the summer of 2004 and released in March 2005. Get Evens, the band's second full-length release, was entirely self-recorded in the basement of the Dischord House in the summer of 2006. The album was then mixed at Inner Ear Studios by The Evens and Don Zientara."

Price: $13.00

Artist: DAG NASTY
Title: Dag With Shawn
Label: DISCHORD
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DIS 168CD
"Available for the first time on LP or CD! Dag With Shawn was recorded on Halloween Day 1985 and features the original line-up of the band with Shawn Brown on vocals. Shortly after the recording Shawn left Dag Nasty and the tape was shelved. In early 1986 the band re-recorded the entire album with new vocalist Dave Smalley and released it as Can I Say. Shawn went on to form the much loved Swiz and Dag Nasty went through several more line-up changes over the years, including another vocal switch when Dave Smalley was replaced by Peter Cortner. This original session has only been previously available as partial out-takes and unauthorized bootlegs and, until now, has never been released in its complete form."

Title: Sessions 1981-1983
Label: DISCHORD
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DIS 171CD
"While organizing the Dischord archive, we came across the 4-track of Void's first recording session. This was done with Steve Carr at Hit and Run Studios in November '81 and never released (though there has been at least one bootleg made from a cassette of the original mix). The master tape was nowhere to be found, so the tape was remixed by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear earlier this year. It was like digging through a treasure chest! Hearing embryonic versions of what would become Void classics as well as songs that didn't make the cut made it clear just how driven this band was to capture their own sound. Sessions 1981-1983 features the entire Hit and Run session along with the first Inner Ear Demo (including the Flex Your Head cuts and the songs that ended up on the Condensed Flesh 7"), two out-takes from their second Inner Ear session, and a couple of live recordings including one that I think must be the last song they ever played."

Title: Subject To Change (Plus First Demo)
Label: DISCHORD
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DIS 172CD
"The fall of 1981 found the Washington, DC punk scene in one of the first of many fallow periods when a number of active bands broke up at the same time. SOA, Minor Threat, Red C and The Untouchables had all split up, and this resulted in a number of the musicians reorganizing. Mike and Ivor from SOA formed a new band with Alec of The Untouchables singing and another Wilson High School kid, Chris Bald, on bass. They called themselves 'The Faith' and played their first show at H.B. Woodlawn High School in November '81. At the end of 1982, Eddie (also a former member of The Untouchables) joined Faith as a second guitarist and six months later they recorded the Subject to Change 12" EP. Though clocking in at less than 14 minutes, this record was hugely important to the people here in D.C. and to others around the country and the world that were interested in the music here. On Subject to Change Faith introduced a layered melodic approach that would blossom fully in later Faith-related bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace. Unfortunately, by the time anybody heard Subject to Change, the band was no more. The interpersonal strife proved too much and Faith played their last show in August 1983. The record was released posthumously four months later. While Minor Threat is often held up as the preeminent DC band of the early years, for many of the people living here it was with the Faith that they felt the strongest connection to, and it was a sad day when they played their last show. For this reissued edition of Subject to Change we have expanded the release from its original EP format into a full-length with the addition of 11 tracks from the band's first demo recorded in 1981 at Inner Ear Studios. Most of these songs were later re-recorded and included on the band's 1982 split LP with Void (DIS 008LP)."
