Artist: MONOSOV, ILYA E.
Title: Solo Cello no. 1 For Charles Curtis
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 001CD
"When Ilya Monosov handed me the score which he wished me to realize, I was relieved that it revealed a complete absence of composerly attributes; it struck me as an honest, an entirely sincere parallel reconfiguring in pictorial, or spatial form, of the disposition of sounds and sound states, and the feelings that inhere in sounds... in response to the photographs and their airy, sky-directed orientation, I created a group of airy, diffuse, diaphanous, unfocused cello sounds, using the extended corpus of the cello as a unified vibrational field, and expressing the point at which cello sound production breaks up into unspecific matter, or diffuses, freeing itself of singular pitch or any other characteristics lending specificity... I organized these sound states into a continuum from extremely diffuse to not so diffuse, the least diffuse being a high artificial harmonic played sul ponticello (and this the only sound actually played conventionally on a string)... we agreed the most diffuse was to be silence... therefore, including silence, I had at my disposal an incremental set or pallette of eleven sound states... applied to the score, we agreed that, read from bottom to top, the most widely spaced sky-strips, as figuratively admitting the largest volume of air, be assigned the most diffuse sounds; and the narrowest the least diffuse... durations were determined by taking a visual average of the faintness of the two wires delineating a sky strip, with the most faintly delineated strips the longest durations, the most boldly the shortest... to this end Ilya Monosov provided a scale of five durations, in seconds 20, 30, 45, 80, 100... thus with five durations and eleven sound states I identified seventy-one separate events and played them accordingly..." --Charles Curtis. "All sound recorded live in one take with no multitracking or layering of any kind."

Artist: SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN
Title: The Trickle-Down Theory of Lord Knows What
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: CD
Price: $13.50
Catalog #: ECLIP 022CD
Repressed. "Reissue of the LP that surfaced in June 2003. On The Trickle-Down Theory of Lord Knows What, indecipherable chants come in dripping with echo; drones pervade almost everything; drums gradually rise through the songs as if the appropriate rhythms were discovered as a latent effect; and after a while, the sounds vanish. All of the music retains a willingness to lash out amidst muted, indistinct waves of sound that wash over the entire album. Battlegrounds materialize, then fade away. It is certain that Sunburned Hand of the Man stand for something a little more old-fashioned than might be expected. The obvious attempt is to find a backdoor to a present situation. Backdoors separate in from out. It becomes a beautiful question of which side you occupy. This group is one that will be happily outside -- when the decrepit structure forming the inside -- collapses with a satisfying crash and whimper. The group is part of a cosmic folk explosion or what some call the 'New Weird America'."

Artist: DOUBLE LEOPARDS
Title: Halve Maen
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: 2CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 023CD
2007 repress, originally released in 2005. "Tempted to shove this in alongside such shadowy double albums as Wickham & Young's Lake, The Dead C's Harsh 70s Reality, Charalambides' Market Square, and Twenty-Six's This Skin Is Rust, but even those gave you a little breathing room now and then; Halve Maen smothers all light from the get-go as it burrows into the bowels of the earth below. Very tactile from the first needle-drop, the everyday objects at the old loft space move of their own volition, at the edges of the feverish eyes. Household items like chord organs, plastic toys, and wind chimes suddenly lurch to the fore during 'The Fatal Affront', before all the room's paraphernalia disintegrates into the more solemn and murky affair, 'Druid Spectre'. The last side is given over to 'The Secret Correspondence 1 & 2', plopping us into the vertiginous tides of the Dead Sea, where the silty, unseen bottom is stirred up something fierce. Cymbals are struck but quickly sink below the briny waters. Tremors of ghostly orchestras are constantly conjured by the guitars, a mass grave of vindicative strings that howl and die only to be resurrected for the finale. The instruments and processed moans of the group commune with a far more surly and slurred spiritual world than previously glimpsed, heavily sedated and hovering with a menacing glint just at the threshold of sanity. As it all slips away at record's end, I'm left questioning the mental stability and half-life of this trip. What I believed to be firmly in my grasp slithered away, a disquieting residue left behind on my hands and in my eyes and ears. Overwhelming in its morose synesthesia and downright bleary at times, Halve Maen is like those little yellow pills I popped so long ago: Ingestion will definitely fuck you up." -- Andy Beta.

Artist: DEAD MACHINES
Title: Live at Tzompantli
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 049LP
"The A-side was recorded at the first No Fun Festival in March 2004 (Brooklyn) and features a little comedy to start with and then things get heavy... and the second side is the very first VG Kids/Wolf Den Ypsi Street Level throwdown... our set was live on a 6-color shirt screen press and Nate brought a fog machine that blasted out the room and into the parking lot night of the VG complex... near the end you can hear people chucklin' cause its absurd.. that night was also the first "official" Sick Llama, and MI debut of Failing Lights... great night.... DM had a weird 7 small speaker set up on the heads of the press and spun it slightly for that dead-universe dying electronic creeping blast sound. Printed covers with the back cover featuring a demented John Olson collage -- killer!"

Artist: LABRECQUE/VALERIE WEBB, PAUL
Title: Trees, Chants and Hollers
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 051LP
"Cold nights roll in during the early parts of spring, reminding us that we're not quite out of the woods yet; there is still work to be done. The contrast of warm, sun-filled days and nights where you can still see your breath is a microcosm for what we all consistently feel in our lives. It's the temporary gratification and beauty that keeps us hopeful, but the desolate darkness that keeps us honest. Valerie Webb and Paul Lebrecque offer up ten meditations on this consciousness divided. Trees, Chants, & Hollers is a magical ride through thick and thin. It's the culmination of knowing that in order to reach the place you long for, you have to do the dirty work first. Webb's angelic voice lifts the spirits of the record, offering a delicate balance to some of the more workmanlike music. These two forces work as a brilliant partnership as a banjo that finds itself high in the leaves of majestic oaks, searching for the haunted flute squeals that float overhead." --Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis

Artist: MONOSOV/SWIRNOFF/HABITAT SOUND SYSTEM
Title: Five Recorded Works: Volume 3
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 052LP
"California sound artists Ilya Monosov and Preston Swirnoff return with two more sonic labyrinths stretched over disparate terrain. As on their previous albums, Monosov and Swirnoff cast boundaries to the wind. Disillusioned and wise to the ways of the world, the duo not only succeeds in propping up the shambolic planet they created on Recorded Works Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, but also in soaring toward the furthest reaches of distant suns. Blurring the line between composition and improvisation, these new installments are rare, unearthed gems. Volume 3 begins with dancing shadows and acoustic myopia. Monosov's minimal vocals lead Swirnoff's piano ramblings deeper into the cerebral maze, inadvertently finding the best route out. Setting off the shaky delicacy of the opener and Side A closer, 'Repeat Again' (with enchanting vocals from Naomi) are the raucous, industrial rhythms of 'Snake Lust' and 'Fly Away.' The Indian-inspired drones of 'With Charles Curtis' top the whole thing off with cinematic splendor. Monosov and Swirnoff manage to seamlessly mesh these ideas into a cohesive whole." --Brad Rose. Edition of 500 copies.

Artist: MONOSOV/SWIRNOFF/HABITAT SOUND SYSTEM
Title: Split LP: Volume 4
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 053LP
" Where Volume 3 is steeped in elegiac drones and tones, Volume 4 turns off the main road and heads toward a fuzzed-out oblivion. This record is actually a split between the Monosov/Swirnoff duo and their band Habitat Sound System. Opener 'Needle's Eye' throws back to Side B of Volume 2 and another Monosov/Swirnoff band, The Shining Path. With spaced-out hints of Les Rallizes Denudes, this is a cosmic transport into the stratosphere. The other duo track, 'Desire Sings Just One True Song,' is the antithesis of 'Needle's Eye.' Unplugged and methodic, it unfolds like an impulsive narrative where the ending seems as unlikely as the storyline. Organic drones of hurdy gurdy, harmonic, and bowed banjo meander over streams of abstract percussion. It pours perfectly into a dub-infused rhythm that closes out the side. Habitat Sound System pick up this theme with impressive ease with four tracks straight from the Kingston underground. Smoke-filled jams sound as though they've been hibernating all winter complete with horns, synthesizers, organs, and more. In the Habitat Sound System, it never rains, only shines." --Brad Rose. Edition of 500 copies.

Artist: MY CAT IS AN ALIEN
Title: Greetings From The Great Void
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 054LP
"the third installment in a trilogy that began with MCIAA's The Rest is Silence, is the sound of The White Light; the movement from the physical to the psychic; one last breath before being consumed by the cosmic ether. Greetings From the Great Void shows its real strength in how it was constructed. Recorded over a two-day period in April 2005, there were no overdubs or outtakes. This is music straight from the spheres. Where there is nothing, there is everything. My Cat is an Alien emerge from these extreme conditions reborn. These recordings traverse light years of space, leaving stellar soundwaves flickering in the dust. The Opalios perform a cathartic psychedelic exorcism with each note searching for new harmonies amongst the wreckage of the cosmos. Once they pierce the heavens, they control galaxies like puppets on strings. If this is the music of The Great Void, it is a place I want to get lost in forever." --Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis. Housed in a deluxe, beautiful gatefold sleeve with the Opalio brothers' artwork.

Artist: FERN KNIGHT
Title: Music For Witches and Alchemists
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 057LP
"Like so much contemporary U.S. psychedelic folk, Fern Knight takes its cues from the dark underground UK folk of the late '60s and early '70s. Opening track 'Song for Ireland' could be from a lost Stone Angel recording or an outtake from Loudest Whisper's touchstone LP Children of Lir. Dark magic is here, the kind that is celebrated by ritual gatherings in hidden glades. 'Awake, Angel Snake' is given an Espers-like sheen courtesy of Week's screaming acid lead guitar, but the results somehow recall doomed Transatlantic folk rock outfit Mr. Fox than anything from this millennium, which is laudable, because how often does one get to compare something to that benighted but magnificent project?" --Tony Dale, Ptolemaic Terrascope. "M4W&A is a dark and beguiling collection of neo-psychedelic songs. Beautifully recorded at Hexham Head by Espers' Greg Weeks, the songs are cast in rich, detailed arrangements featuring Alec K. Redfearn, Greg Weeks, Jesse Sparhawk on harp, Otto Hauser (Espers, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver) and other Philadelphia-area luminaries contributing to the sweeping sound. At the heart are Margie's strong voice, cello/string arrangements, and guitar, leading the tunes with feeling and subtlety. Hand-screened covers by Monoroid." Numbered edition of 800 copies -- beautifully screenprinted jackets (inside and out) by Neil Burke -- and vinyl pressed by RTI.

Artist: PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SOUND
Title: Plastic Crimewave Sound
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: ECLIP 058LP
"At last, a new LP from Chicago's spacepunk purveyors! Following '06s sprawling double concept LP, No Wonderland, this is perhaps their most consistent and paint-peeling statement yet. These tracks were captured with little studio trickery, in a live-type fashion, a set of bellowing free-fest scuzzrock, biker boogie, Kraut-style dirges, cosmic communal jams, and fist-pumping no-anthems. This is easily the most seriously rocking Plastic Crimewave Sound line-up yet, with hot new leads courtesy of Nick D'vyne, and the solid backbone of PCW (guitarscrawl, yelps) Mark Lux (bass rumblage, electronix) and Lawrence (Skog Device) Peters (drum). Folks have actually been clamoring for this line-up to lay it down to wax (especially the aforementioned anthemic cut 'Shockwave Rider') for some time, so get ready to explode into space. Limited edition one-time pressing."

Artist: MONOSOV/SWIRNOFF/HABITAT SOUND SYSTEM
Title: Seven Recorded Works: Volume 1
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: ECLIP IM/PS1
"The sound of two souls, all alone in claustrophobically infinite space. These two volumes see disenchanted Californians Ilya Monosov and Preston Swirnoff whittling out their own autonomous spaces far from the surf and sun, then climbing in and nailing the door firmly shut behind them. Seven Recorded Works comes over like someone has leached the spirits of Ennio Morricone, Eric Satie and Pauline Oliveros, stuffed them in a leaky wooden barrel, and set them rolling out to sea on a spring riptide. Uncertain, hesitant piano and melodica miniatures undercut with the evil drone of harmonica and hurdy-gurdy. It's a creaking and queasy trip, guaranteed to heave underwater, piratical nightmares out of some long suppressed substream of your subconscious." - Alan Cummings. Edition of 500 copies.

Artist: MONOSOV/SWIRNOFF/HABITAT SOUND SYSTEM
Title: Two Recorded Works: Volume 2
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: ECLIP IM/PS2
"Two Recorded Works opens in equally brooding, cinematic fashion with Swirnoff's 'air organ' slow gasping its weighted way through magenta dust-clouds of bowed guitar. Later, sea-shanty bellows underscore the spectral traces of whistles and ghosted vocals and whistles to particularly melancholic effect. But the final side, credited to Monosov and Swirnoff's rock unit The Shining Path, is a whole other kettle of herring. It rockets upwards into the fuzzed out expansive zones of the Rallizes sound, but is tethered to an on-edge, speedfreak shake of a Suicide rhythm, just too fast for comfort. Bliss handily circumvented, higher mind tied to delerium tremens. I think they're trying to tell us something." - Alan Cummings. Edition of 500 copies.

Artist: MY CAT IS AN ALIEN
Title: When the Windmill's Whirl Dies
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECLIP MCIAA2
"The new work by the space-brothers Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, alias My Cat Is An Alien. Both the words, recited and shaped by Roberto from his own homonymous poem that suggested the title of the album, and the oblique minimalism of the complex musical texture made of flowing space sounds, represent the abstract neo-expressionistic substratum of the whole corpus of the work. Moving throughout a nebula of space dust and debris, the starting spoken-word vocals alongside the percussive section sound as powerfully impressive as the violent imagery of trees beaten down by the storm, while the whispered silence of 'Perspective of Time' and 'Fallin'', on side two, discloses the emotional and existential universe of an isolated broken soul, lost in a world of inanity. This is the center of the No-thing Universe, where each single word or sound assumes the aspect of a sort of pagan prayer that speaks the language of astral folk-blues. In this context, MCIAA's outer space becomes a re-found uterus, meant to be the form of a new self-biogenesis. At the same time, space is conceived as symbol of the eternal theatre surrounding the mysterious cycle of life & death; such infinite space, despite such limited time. This cosmic-chant of the new millennium may heat our nights like a flame left to enlighten the shadows of the coldest darkness." Edition of 600 copies.

Artist: NADLER, MARISSA
Title: The Saga of Mayflower May
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: CD
Price: $13.50
Catalog #: ECLIP MN2CD
2nd album from singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler. "A friend of mine, when visiting, was curious if I knew of another rich coloured voice like for instance, Sandy Denny. I couldn't convince him with Mandy Morton, but Marissa Nadler blew him away. And indeed, each song of Marissa's shows its own worlds in poetry, in growth like a flower, shining gently, accompanied by the spiral-wards splendid acoustic guitarpicking. From her earlier demo with different, easier guitar, and with a beautiful transformed dark melancholic melody is 'Yellow Lights'. 'Old Love haunts me in the morning', acoustic guitar, voice, and some piano, for me is almost like the voice of love itself, sadly unreachable, but therefore also beautiful and pure, as a spring-time condition. Somehow all inspirations on this album are as much related to nature, on various levels of inspiration. 'Calico' might be something like her place into the picture. 'Horses and their kin' is a perfect closer with 12-string guitar fingerpicking and various vocal chorus arrangements. Brilliant!" - Gerald Van Waes. The CD is housed in gatefold sleeve as well -- sort of a mini-version of the LP gatefold.

Artist: SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN
Title: Wedlock
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: 2LP
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: ECLIP SHM2
"Wedlock captures Sunburned in its 2003 suit when they took it to the West Coast to tour their way up to Wasilla, Alaska to attend and perform at Paul & Val's wedding on the longest day of the year, June 21, 2003. Under the bright midnight sun, Sunburned recorded this document, a testament to irony, omnipotence, moisture, pain, and the weight. Come and dine at this one, clear table. Double LP. September 2005 release taken from recordings in Alaska on the Summer Solstice. Features a beautifully designed heavy duty gatefold sleeve with two inserts featuring many photos from the trip to Alaska as well as some pictures from Northern California from the same tour."

Artist: TAURPIS TULA
Title: Sparrows
Label: ECLIPSE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: ECLIP TAU
"Taurpis Tula from Glasgow, Scotland is the duo of Heather Leigh - (Charalambides and Scorces) on pedal steel / vocals and David Leigh - on guitar, navigating rivers of steel string with their fists and throats. Their all-improvised music works loops of spectral sound into beautifully fucked tonal hymns. 'Examining drones and loops from the epic cragginess of The Dream Academy and Terry Riley to its currency amongst laptop popsters and free-guitar types has long been a passion. To create improvised, trance-driven music with subtlety, emotionalism, hymn-like melody and physicality is rare. Sparrows, sometimes sounds like futuristic gamelan-folk music for 250 years down the road.' This is such a beautiful and haunting record from a lovely duo."
