Nils Petter Molvær is an obscure ECM veteran from Norway but this is his debut album as a leader. Incorporating programmed drums, ambient dub textures, Coldcut & Laswell samples, downtempo soundology, etc., Khmer merges ECM improvisational finesse with sampledelics like nothing else heard to date and is an incredibly satisfying and sonically diverse album to listen to. May seem kind of surprising for an ECM release, but Molvær makes it all come together beautifully.
