Artist: OPTIMO
Title: Walkabout
Label: ENDLESS FLIGHT (JAPAN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: EF 001CD
Presenting a killer mix CD on new Mule Musiq offshoot label, Endless Flight. Walkabout features the stand-up taste and abilities of the UK's Optimo, known for their first mix CD, How to Kill the DJ Part Two, released on the Kill The DJ label and their second mix CD, Psyche Out, released on Eskimo Recordings. The duo also host their very own regular Optimo event at the Sub Club, in their hometown of Glasgow, and for the past 9 years the party has featured artists such as Rapture, Liquid Liquid, ESG, Franz Ferdinand and over 120 other bands. It has also featured DJs such as Harvey and Ivan Smagghe. The party itself has become known as one of the best dance parties on the globe and amasses a large gathering every week. As such, Optimo have been called upon for their highly-trained mixing skills at big festivals and small parties the world over -- so it's smart that Endless Flight should choose them to mix their inaugural comp. Walkabout is an eclectic and diverse tour across the globe and across genres -- a smooth blend of music through industrial, new wave, techno and minimal house that feels like a session between Mogwai and Ricardo Villalobos. From Throbbing Gristle and Boris to Pan Sonic and Thomas Brinkmann, this release doesn't just feature the best dance hits playing at the clubs right now, it also features Optimo's educated musical perspectives. This is the world according to Optimo. Other artists include: Grungerman, Databrain, Like A Tim, Lenny Dee & Nicolai Vorkapich, Philus, Shane Berry, Godsy, Suicide, Eventell and Metaboman, 6k, Marc Houle, Herbert, Smith & Hacke and Black Dice.

Artist: BETTY BOTOX
Title: Mmm, Betty!
Label: ENDLESS FLIGHT (JAPAN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: EF 002CD
Betty Botox is the re-edit project of JD Twitch of Optimo, and this is his first full-length release. Inspired by his sets with JG Wilkes at Glasgow's Sub Club, Mmm, Betty! compiles hard-to-find proto-"classics" of nu-disco, dub, Kraut, industrial, and electronic. This release starts off with The Jellies, and their track "Jive Baby On A Saturday Night," which is a slanted, bouncy bass-driven and handclap number that is virtually impossible to find anywhere else but here. Next is the Love Of Life Orchestra -- after James Murphy used the original version to begin his own mix CD, many people looked for this record, but the original 12" is mega-rare. This Betty Botox version is mixed with another song, "Don't Don't" from the same 12". A very funny but very interesting re-edit. There's a track by The Residents -- their music is always amusing and difficult to understand. However, after you listen to this re-edit, you will know why JD Twitch picked this song -- it's like an original song by Optimo! Severed Heads are early Australian progenitors of avant garde/industrial from the late '70s, and Pankow are pioneers of EBM/industrial in Italy. Their edited track "Girls And Boys" was taken from their first album produced by Adrian Sherwood. Carlos Peron was a member of '80s Swiss electronic/synth-pop band Yello, and "Et" was taken from a mega-rare limited 12", Frigorex. The UK's Hawkwind are one of the most popular and nameable space-rock bands in the world. Their music has been used on mix CDs by disco dub artists such as Prins Thomas, and the track presented and edited here is a whirling, cosmic, guitar and synth-driven maelstrom. Flying Rhythms is a very well-known jam band in Japan and their track is transformed into a no/disco shaker, driven by bongos. Zed is the project of Bernard Szajner, a progressive/industrial/electronic rock pioneer and inventor of the Laser Harp. His two albums Visions Of Dune and Some Deaths Take Forever have been described by Carl Craig as his all-time favorite electronic records. "Framen" is taken from Visions Of Dune and has been edited by Naum Gabo (Jonnie Wilkes of Optimo). Betty Botox is bound to leave you spaced-out, musically schooled and transformed.

Artist: KZA & TOSHIYA KAWASAKI
Title: I'm Starting To Feel Okay Vol. 3
Label: ENDLESS FLIGHT (JAPAN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: EF 003CD
Endless Flight is home to the third volume of the I'm Starting To Feel Okay series, featuring tracks from Mule Musiq, Mule Electronic, and Endless Flight. Including exclusive, new tracks in addition to tunes that have never appeared on CD before, selected by label boss Toshiya Kawasaki, and all mixed by KZA of Force Of Nature. The opening Kuniyuki has been a heavily highlighted single and is here remixed by Theo Parrish, Mark E is the hottest nu-disco artist at the moment, Cos/Mes is a new producer team from Japan, and Naum Gabo is Jonnie Wilkes of Optimo, remixed by Japanese newcomer Discosession. More tracks follow from Soft Rocks, with some jazzy breakbeat, John Daly, and Italo-disco artist, Marcello Giordani as remixed by DJ Naughty. The excellent collaboration between Norway's space-disco kings Prins Thomas and Japanese disco-ers Force Of Nature makes for some killer disco house, while Wild Rumps presents progressive disco that sounds like Carlos Santana. The Runaway remix of Belgium's Mugwump is a compilation highlight, and Mr Raoul K presents some unique, deep African house music. The unreleased live mix version of Henrik Schwarz' remix of Kuniyuki is more clubby than the original release, while DJ Sprinkles aka Terre Thaemlitz gets his own psychedelic Kuniyuki remix. Sasse's track provides a taste of early '90s house, followed by the inimitable Tony Lionni. German house music producer Motor City Drum Ensemble made an excellent Chicago house style remix for DJ Sprinkles before Brendon Moeller presents an upcomer for Mule Musiq. The last track is a remix by Still Going, a project by Eric D from Rub N Tug.

Artist: KZA
Title: Dig And Edit
Label: ENDLESS FLIGHT (JAPAN)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: EF 004CD
Endless Flight proudly announces the solo debut from KZA, a member of Japanese nu-disco super-duo Force Of Nature. KZA is one of the most popular DJs in Japan and well-known as one of the biggest vinyl collectors, and as a result, this album was made with many obscure old records. On Dig And Edit, he teams up with Kuniyuki aka Koss as a production partner. It all kicks off with mid-tempo jazz-funk-disco which segues into Italo synth-disco. The album shifts to his dance oriented sound with songs like the '80s body music-style "Gothenergy," to the uplifting Chicago house of "On&On&On," to the new wave disco of "Unfaithful." KZA also displays a knack for slow cosmic disco with tracks such as "Communication Satellite," "Transaction," and "Routine." The album comes to an end with his first solo track, "Open Up," which appeared on a Mule Musiq Japanese artist compilation. A remarkable release dedicated to the fun of nu disco.

This single from Soft Rocks contains three different styles of music: one is house, one is beautiful downtempo, and one is alternative disco. "Light Bulb" is very playful old school acid-house. "Essra" is a beautiful, jazzy song, similar to the early works of Zero 7 or Hefner. "Dlalulac" is unique dubby disco with the addition of violin. Price: $12.00
Catalog #: EF 016EP

The original version of "Black Lab" is a slow cosmic dancer, and the remix by Japanese nu-disco artist Discosession is deeper and even more gorgeous slow cosmic house. "Torus" has a pre-techno sound which derives itself from progressive rock.
