Originally released in 2003. This is the fourth installment in a series that started off as a summary of the Eskimo vibe. The series of compilations (and side projects Summer Madness and Serie Noire) now have a well established reputation for following the good groove and joining the dots between dancefloor classics, recent gems and obscure oddities that leave the trainspotters dribbling and party crowd rocking. Previous installments have managed to smoothly incorporate artists as disparate as Frankie Knuckles, Laidback, Luomo and Hall & Oates and demonstrated The Glimmer Twins' ability to rock the party with their crate-digging finds and to segue the bundle together seamlessly. On this album the pop shocker is Sydney Youngbloods' "If Only I Could," which most will probably remember for its smooth vocals, rendered here in the dub format. The selectors know their music history and each with this edition Eskimo has included tracks such as the feline-friendly Martin Circus "Disco Circus" and Groove Committee's "Just Play the Music," which has turned up on many a dancefloor mix.

Animalia is the debut album from a new musical collaboration between Fetisch (Terranova), Shapemod (Terranova) and Mack Goudy Jr. (aka Paris The Black Fu from the Detroit Grand Pubahs) -- an electronic "supergroup," if you will. Trading on the trio's collective electronic influences, Animalia connects the dots between electro, punk funk, disco, indie-rock and p-funk and superbly showcases what the trio have already been doing live in clubs over the last 12 months -- kicking it on the dance floor. With a trio of singles already under their belts in the shape of "Blazer," "Heroine" and the album opening "Starwhores," The Lotterboys' unique sound is already gracing DJ sets all over the world with Mack Goudy Jr.'s unmistakable wigged-out vocals riding Fetisch and Shapemod's driving basslines like a Funkadelic space party. The Lotterboys project started when Fetisch was messing around with the Detroit Grand Pubahs' "Big Onion" a cappella over some Pink Floyd music for a mix he was working on for DJ Hell's Gigolo Records. After enjoining the idea of adding a singer, the trio got together, instantly clicked, and within a blink of an eye had made two tracks and sent them to Eskimo. Fuelled by Eskimo's instant enthusiasm, they decided to use the name "Lotterboys" (Terranova's bootleg name whose origins refer to a gang of swing kids who opposed the Nazi regime in Germany with fashion and swing music -- as well as being the first people to use two grammophones at their parties). "Paris spaced out p-funk like vocals over krautstyle party rock was the goal," confirms Fetisch. Add these musical misfits together and you get the punk p-funk rockin' outfit that is the Lotterboys. From the trumpet-fuelled rock of "Blazer" and the vocoder work out of Black Sabbath cover "Iron Man," to the slick Prince-style funk of "Cadillac and Mac" and the sheer ultra-boogieness of "Get Down Syndrome," the Lotterboys are beamed down fresh from planet Funk to run riot on the dancefloor.

This is Brighton's Matt Edwards' debut mix CD. Dr. Beat aka Jaime Sagastibeltza started his career as a DJ in the late '80s, in the middle of the acid house movement. In the early '90s, he started playing in KU San Sebastián, the mother company of the infamous KU Ibiza, and was very influenced by the Balearic sound. In 2000, Dr. Beat released a promo vinyl with the Balearic hymn "Mediterraneo." It became a hit when DJ Harvey included it on his house mix compilation. Allez Allez are one of those early '80s hidden gems of the Belgian new wave dance scene who shone so brightly for a few years (1981-1985) and then were gone -- but not forgotten. Based around the writing and production nucleus of Brussels-based Kristiaan Debusscher and Nicolas Fransolet, a third dimension was added by American vocalist Sarah Osbourne. Early hi-tempo hits such as "African Queen," "Allez Allez" and "She's Stirring Up" became global club classics. Allez Allez were the funky follow-up to the Brussels-based collective Marine. The trademarks of Allez Allez were highly danceable and catchy rhythms, African influences and high quality singing, forming a powerful and funky mixture. The band's debut mini-album African Queen promptly went gold and they recorded a full album in John Foxx's studio with production handled by Heaven 17 mastermind, Martin Ware. Promises was a more refined funk album with soul influences and the road for an international breakthrough seemed open. Then singer Sarah Osbourne left the group and married the singer of Heaven 17, Glenn Gregory. A replacement was found in New York-based Jackie Irwin, but she never managed to truly replace the sensual and flexible Sarah and although it was produced by Madonna-discoverer Mark Kamins, the following 12" Boom Boom flopped. Techno fans may also be interested to know that Sarah Osbourne later found herself in Detroit on the cusp of techno's evolution and as well as painting a mural on the east wall of Detroit's legendary Music Institute, she also painted a cover for Rhythim Is Rhythim and ultimately sang vocals on a number of Carl Craig tracks. Now, for the first time, some 25 years later, Eskimo brings you the Best of Allez Allez. Including bonus remixes from contemporary producer-fans such as Quiet Village (aka Matt Edwards and Joel Martin), Aeroplane, Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas and Optimo (Espacio), you can check out the funky, African-inspired new wave rhythms of one of Belgium's finest dance exports. In recent years, Aeroplane has been carefully selecting the best of all the new music released every month to turn it into the "Aeroplane Chart Mixes," gaining a lot of attention and a non-stop growing fan base on the internet, and followers on the official Aeroplane Soundcloud, with each mix getting between 30,000 and 45,000 plays and quickly becoming blogosphere favorites. The next step was when Aeroplane decided to make it "official." His mixes became a radio show called "In-Flight Entertainment," played every last Friday of the month on Belgian national radio station PureFM, with the mix becoming available on the Aeroplane Soundcloud right after it was aired on the radio. The constantly-rising interest made the "In-Flight Entertainment" mix series really influential in the dance music scene, pushing artists to send music to Aeroplane upfront to include in his mixes, turning them into something more and more exclusive. Also Aeroplane's constant search for new music and his obsessive need to listen to everything he receives gave him the opportunity to discover a lot of newcomers he would feature on the mixes, which would help to put them on the music map. With this history, an Aeroplane mix CD couldn't be anything simple, it needed to be special. He wanted it to be ahead of its time and he wanted it to be 100% exclusive. Teaming up with all his friends and producers from all around the world, he put together a collection of songs that have never been heard before, some of them being made especially for the compilation with, as usual, a lot of space for young producers. Even Aeroplane rolls up his sleeves to contribute with an exclusive Aeroplane track. But what does it sound like? Lately, the so-called nu-disco/Balearic producers have been asked to "collaborate" with the pop music world by remixing mainstream pop artists, turning their songs into warm and sexy disco anthems, and giving those artists visibility in the blog world and the club scene. It often happened that those remixes became more popular than the originals. Aeroplane's remixes of Grace Jones' "William's Blood," Robbie Williams' "Bodies" or Friendly Fires' "Paris" are good examples of that. But Aeroplane wants to believe that the time has come for all those artists he supported to get to the next level, and to put their time and talent into becoming the new pop acts. With radio starting to playlist more and more of them, even playlisting the remixes rather than the originals, he thought the time was right. So that's what it sounds like. Pop music filled with catchy hooks and disco grooves, updated to 2011 -- or should we say 2012? To conclude in style, there are two bonus mixes from The Glimmers, including a few exclusives, too. At 5 CDs and nearly 70 tracks, Eskimonde is a testament to Eskimo's decade-plus visionary output. It comes complete with a remix album that is testament to the respect they command from DJs and there are remixes from legendary figures and hot new talent. The elusive, cult figure Harvey turns Dr. Beat's "Mediterraneo" into a seagull and fuzzy guitar-laden, percussion-driven delight and remixer du jour Solomun mixes Low Motion Disco's "Love Love Love."
