Catalog #:
ECLEC 2003CD
"Egg were exponents of the so-called 'Canterbury' style of rock music and were focused around the compositional and keyboard playing skills of Dave Stewart (later in Hatfield & The North), Mont Campbell and Clive Brooks. The band recorded two superb albums for Decca Records between 1969 & 1971 before going their separate ways. In 1974 they recorded their final album for the newly-established Virgin record label. Featuring guest musicians such as Steve Hillage and members of the unique Henry Cow,
The Civil Surface
is now regarded as a classic of the 'Canterbury' and progressive genres. This Esoteric Recordings release has been remastered from the original tapes and is certain to the many who made the reissues of Egg's previous work such a success. ALLEN, DAEVID
Title:
Good Morning!
Label:
ESOTERIC RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2004CD
"In 1975, following his departure from Gong, the highly influential group he had founded, Daevid Allen sought musical solace in the village of Deja on the island of Mallorca. Here he encountered a group of Catalan musicians, Euterpe, with whom Allen began a collaboration. Recorded in Mallorca, the album
Good Morning!
was released by Virgin Records in 1976 to great acclaim, being a unique work that was regarded by fans and critics as being equally as good as anything he recorded with Gong, if not better. Filled with Allen's startling original musical observations,
Good Morning!
appeared briefly on CD in the early 1990s and vanished quickly. Long sought-after by the legions of Gong/Daevid Allen followers, Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the reissue of this album with fully-restored artwork and superb 24-bit digitally-remastered sound. The first-ever official CD release for this classic album in sixteen years."

Title:
Arena
Label:
ESOTERIC RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2007CD
"Released in March 1971,
Arena
was the second and final album by the group Marsupilami. Initially a folk-based group, the band evolved into one of the most adventurous, if unsung, bands of the early 1970s, producing two stunningly original Mellotron-soaked albums. Featuring a line-up of brothers Fred and Leary Hasson (lead vocals, harmonica and keyboards respectively), Dave Laverock (guitar), Richard Lathan Hicks (bass), Jessica Stanley Clarke (flute, vocals) and Mike Fouracre (drums), Marsupilami drew early comparisons to such contemporaries as Quintessence and Gryphon, although in truth the group were far more experimental and powerful. Produced by Peter Bardens (soon to form Camel), the CD release of
Arena
will be welcomed by the legions of progressive rock aficionados. With this 24-bit remastered edition from Esoteric Recordings, the conceptual
Arena
has never sounded better. The first-ever official UK CD release for this classic album -- now 24-bit remastered."

ECLEC 2009CD
"Recently cited by
Classic Rock
magazine as 'the best prog band you've never heard,' Jonesy were one of the most innovative British bands of the early 1970s. Placing a Mellotron at the center of their sound and taking influences from the worlds of jazz, rock, classical music and folk, Jonesy recorded a single and three albums (

Growing

Classic Rock
's Malcolm Dome declared recently; 'Jonesy were more than mere mimics of any Fripp-ery. They made some fascinating records.' Now, for the first time, Esoteric gathers all of Jonesy's recorded output for Dawn Records and gathers it on this deluxe 2CD set, with all tracks remastered from the original master tapes.
Masquerade

Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2025CD
"Classic progressive rock album -- now 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes.
Samurai
is truly a lost classic of the progressive era. Released on the short-lived Greenwich Gramophone label in 1972, the album was influenced by the experiments of groups such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant et al, but was more than a mere clone of these bands. Evolving from the equally excellent band Web (whose album
I Spider
is a classic of the genre), the musicianship on the album was excellent and keyboard player Dave Lawson's compositions were groundbreaking and memorable. Sadly, the group disbanded shortly after the release of the record, resulting in limited sales. However, the influence of the album was not lost as both Dave Lawson and Tony Reeves soon joined Dave Greenslade to form the group Greenslade, effectively taking up the musical mantle laid down by Samurai. This Esoteric reissue features a booklet with previously unseen photographs and an interview with Dave Lawson."

The Esoteric reissue is remastered from the original tapes and includes 7 bonus tracks, 3 of which are previously unreleased. Catalog #:
ECLEC 2029CD
"Gary Farr's long-lost classic folk rock album, now 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes with bonus track.
Strange Fruit
is a great undiscovered work of the acoustic rock/classic rock genres, cited by some as a minor masterpiece. In the late '60s, Gary Farr made the transition from leader of R&B outfit The T-Bones to a noted singer-songwriter. Recording an album for Marmalade Records, Farr then signed to CBS Records in 1970, recording this sole album for the label. Sessions featured contributions from Richard Thompson on lead guitar and leading lights of the underground Mighty Baby. Unavailable on CD for many years,
Strange Fruit
is a record made by an often-overlooked singer-songwriter made available once more by Esoteric Recordings and is certain to appeal to all who adore acoustic music both melancholic and uplifting. The reissue also features the first-ever CD appearance of the single edit of 'Revolution of the Season.'"

Brass Rock 1
Label:
ESOTERIC RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2030CD
"Classic progressive jazz rock album reissued on CD officially for the first time. 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes. Heaven, a jazz rock group from Portsmouth, burst forth onto the British rock scene in 1970 when they appeared at the legendary Isle of Wight festival sharing a bill with The Who, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix et al. Making a stunning debut, the band (now managed by festival organizer Rikki Farr), soon secured a recording deal with CBS Records who signed the band for a large advance. The resulting double album
Brass Rock 1
appeared in 1971, adorned in a lavish fold-out sleeve. Well received critically, the album failed to achieve the expected success and Heaven soon disbanded, leaving behind a fine example of classic jazz rock. Officially released on CD for the first time, this Esoteric Recordings reissue is digitally remastered from the original master tapes and restores the album artwork in full."

Mercator Projected
has been cited by
MOJO

Catalog #:
ECLEC 2034CD
"East of Eden's second album
Snafu
was originally released in 1970 by Deram Records and saw the band take their particular fusion of jazz, psychedelia, world music and even blue beat, one step further. As ever, the instrumental prowess of Dave Arbus on violin dominated the music, leading eventually to Arbus playing the infamous violin solo on 'Baba O'Reilly' by The Who.
Snafu
was the result of many months in the studio, where a second album had been virtually completed before being shelved in favor of starting work on a fresh project. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and features many unreleased bonus tracks, including five previously unreleased tracks from the aborted album sessions and alternate demo and single versions of their 1971 hit, 'Jig-A-Jig.' An extensive essay features interviews and previously unseen photographs."

This fusion resulted in one of the most enduring releases to appear on Decca's short lived Nova imprint and is now critically regarded as one of the more unique albums of the early 1970s." FAY, BILL
Title:
Bill Fay
Label:
ESOTERIC RECORDINGS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2037CD
New reissues of the 2 main Bill Fay albums, previously reissued on Eclectic -- which has now resurfaced under the new label name Esoteric. This first one was originally released in 1970 on Deram Nova; this is presumably the same 2005 24-bit remaster from original tapes as Eclectic used, with 2 bonus tracks from his staggeringly great1967(!) single, new liner notes by Mark Powell , etc. Very well done. "Bill Fay is an enigmatic UK based singer, songwriter and pianist whose work is impossible to categorise. His late '60s and early '70s work has a strong cult following, is highly regarded by many music journalists and is dark and haunting with songs rarely going over three minutes. Bill was originally signed to Decca and between 1967 and 1971 the label released a beautifully odd single ('Some Good Advice'/'Screams In The Ears') and two excellent albums (the lushly orchestrated
Bill Fay
and the rawer, more rock-oriented
Time Of The Last Persecution
). Bill's fantastic songs have touched and inspired many -- his fans include country rockers Wilco, songwriter/producer Jim O'Rourke, Ben Chasny of Six Organs Of Admittance and David Michael of Current 93."

Label:

Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ECLEC 2038CD
Reissue of the 2nd Bill Fay album, originally released in 1971 on Deram. 2005 24-bit remaster from the original tapes, with new liner notes from Mark Powell.
Time Of The Last Persecution
is an album noted for its stripped-down and stripped-away raw nerve. Differing slightly from his first self-titled release, this record is considered to be more raucous, more guitar-oriented, alongside some simple piano. Great guitar playing from Ray Russell, who is also co-credited with producing and arranging the album. "
Time Of The Last Persecution' is a bonafide classic album, the kind you will keep going back to until the day you die. The fact that, beyond the occasional mention in
Mojo
(and that for his first album), Fay remains practically unknown is almost incomprehensible. This album makes a mockery of lesser figures who have persisted in the music crits' lexicon, and while the likes of Dylan are certainly a touchstone for him, Fay really is in a class of his own here.

"Classic, highly regarded and sought after acid folk / progressive rock album. Now 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes. New fully restored artwork. Extensive booklet with new essay. Featuring girl singers Clodagh Simonds and Alison Williams, Mellow Candle never achieved commercial success they deserved spawning a legendary psychedelic folk-rock album akin to Fairport Convention or Fotheringay. Touring to support Thin Lizzy (Simonds played on Lizzy's album
Shades of a Blue Orphanage
) and Horslips, the band had a short lived existence. Clodagh Simonds later went on to play again with Mike Oldfield and Jade Warrior and this release serves as evidence of the talents of both Simonds and the band who deserved far more commercial success than they attained. Originally released on Derem in 1970. "New release for this highly regarded classic jazz rock album. 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes. Considered by many to be one of the finest exponents of powerful jazz rock, Keef's earliest engagement was as replacement for Ringo Starr in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. He was also Mick Fleetwood's replacement in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and featured on many recordings by the band. In 1968 he formed his own group recruiting the highly regarded Miller Anderson on guitar and vocals. Although they performed at Woodstock the band was not filmed. Latterly Hartley became involved with group Vinegar Joe and with singer / songwriter Michael Chapman.

"The classic album, a precursor to King Crimson, now 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes. New fully restored artwork. This great album is where it all began for the King Crimson stalwarts. An excellent late '60s album which touches on psychedelic pop, (often compared to early Syd Barrett -ra Pink Floyd) with jazz influences and a whimsical brand of surreal humor. Fripp's guitar is on top form on 'Suite No. 1' and shows the shape of things to come when in 1969 when he and Mike Giles teamed up with Greg Lake and Ian McDonald to form King Crimson. This re-mastered reissue comes with six bonus tracks and enhanced artwork and should appeal to all lovers of eccentric late '60s psychedelia and fans of King Crimson."

"Esoteric Recordings are proud to release this classic rock album from 1974, the only live album by the amazing power trio, West Bruce & Laing. Forming in 1972 the band brought together Cream bassist, vocalist and writer Jack Bruce with Leslie West and Corky Laing from the American band Mountain. Together WBL recorded three albums, all of which demonstrated the group's power and dexterity. Following the release of their debut,
Why Doncha?
for CBS records in Europe, the band moved to RSO Records. This powerful live album captures WBL at their peak and includes stunning versions of 'Play With Fire,' Cream's 'Politician' and 'Powerhouse Sod.' Alas, the band only lasted some eighteen months before breaking apart. This Esoteric release, remastered from the original tapes, follows on the heels of the label's critically acclaimed 6 CD set Jack Bruce retrospective

"Quintessence came from the Ladbroke Grove scene of the late 1960s. A group of musicians who became darlings of the hippy scene and the underground press along with contemporaries Hawkwind. Quintessence played a freaky form of rock music that embraced Indian music, psychedelia and jazz. They came to public attention in 1969 when they signed to Island Records, for whom they recorded three classic albums. In 1971 they signed to RCA records, recording this classic album as their debut for the label. Comprising studio tracks and a live recording from Exeter University,
Self
was a classic of the 'underground.' This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and also adds two bonus tracks drawn from the band's only single for RCA Neon label. The album's debut on CD is sure to attract the attention of the legions of collectors of progressive rock."
