FABRIC 015CD
2002 release. "Keith Tenniswood has been behind and upfront on a variety of dance music's most-cherished productions. Growing up he was a Hendrix-head amongst the early eighties electro craze, and as a teenager frequented parties on London's 'Drum Club' scene. He'd later meet the Sabresonic and Full Circle crews and begin work as an In-House Engineer for Sabres of Paradise, whilst working with other members of the tight-knit dance community. He's credited by David Holmes, Beth Orton, The Aloof, Red Snapper, Primal Scream, Jon Carter and Barry Ashworth, testament to an all-encompassing production aptitude and a musical open-mindedness. Partnering Andrew Weatherall in 2 Lone Swordsmen, Keith's alter-ego, Radioactive Man, is an outlet for his solo work. 'I wanted to capture our 'Haywire at Fabric' spirit. That can be anything from breaks to techno to electro to some housey vibes, even finishing up with some drum and bass. Whatever, the CD had to be really pumping from start-to-finish: no messing around' - Radioactive Man. This is techno changing state. Using Detroit's 'electro future sound' and the UK's 'Industrial' movement as very loose inspiration, Tenniswood uses 17 tracks in creating a lava-hot, headstrong trip. Dot Allison's vocals and Sweetie's twisted bliss meet The Swordsmen's edge, Takeover Sound bring Motor City grooves, Depth Charge work the percussion and Imatran Voima plays it straight. Koma and Bones merge frequencies and filters; Jammin drops things deep; Anthony Rother spaces-out; and Basic Unit strip things back. The big bass hit of Radioactive Man's 'Ave That' is rewound then re-thought by Tim Wright before Tim's beat-defying 'Going Down' clashes into The Kitbuilders' stealth pop. Disco D and Princess Superstar stamp all over Dirty Hospital for a head-rushing finish. Spun-back and quickly-cut, this is a thunderstruck blend of spark-inducing electro beats."

"Fabric presents yet another brilliant audio journey -- this time by well respected German techno and house stalwart, Michael Mayer. Mayer runs Kompakt -- the much admired German imprint and distribution network along with the revered techno and house weekly 'Connfusion.' Mayer, along with co-conspirators Superpitcher and Tobias Thomas have been key players in shaping the envelope pushing sounds currently coming out of an city in Germany which is rapidly gaining a reputation as a fertile bed for creativity in both music and the visual arts: Cologne. A 16-year turntable veteran Michael is a staunch disciple of the 4/4 sound. Michael says,
'The only thing I pre-determine is that I play 4/4. The rest happens by accident. I love the deeper side of music, obviously, but I like it raw and kicking. There has to be some pop sensibility too but... not obviously. The structure of my set is very pop influenced ... I love to play...songs... things you can whistle on the way home.'

"You could say that Detroit electronica pioneer Stacey Pullen was destined for musical greatness at birth. His father was part of the then well known Motown group the Capitols which provided Stacey with an environment filled with the personalities and classic songs of Motown's tight knit community. Stacey became hooked on keyboards and drums at a young age and soon his infatuation with these base elements of music led him to the explore the tribal sounds that were percolation out of Detroits fertile underground. Inspired by the eras key stalwarts including Kraftwerk, and The Electrifyin' Mojo Stacey began piecing together his own projects which eventually led to him receiving the great honor of working in the studio side by side with fellow Detroit pioneers Kevin Reese Saunderson and Derrick May. Fast forward to 2003. Stacey Pullen is now one of the genres most respected pioneers with countless singles, remixes and his own label Black Flag. Stacey's exotic mixing style has taken him all over North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
Fabric 14
demonstrates Stacey's eclectic mixing style -- he says he 'never knows [what he may play] I just play from the heart and never categorize it.' However, although Stacey isn't eager to categorize his selections or his sets overall many of his emphatic fans will and eagerly label them both· as 'pure genius'." FABRIC 033CD
"Every so often, techno throws us a truly classic album, made by an artist with bags of personality and character. Akufen's
My Way
(Force Inc., 2002) was one; a heart-stealing blend of gorgeous, glitchy soundscapes, created in self-imposed isolation by -- of all people -- a former butcher. As Akufen (Marc Leclair) prepares to record his follow-up, Fabric presents his first ever DJ mix CD, showcasing some of the sharpest new record labels and producers.
Fabric 17
was meticulously planned, and recorded in one take, using two turntables and a mixer. Akufen records for Perlon, and Musique Risquée, and has remixed Richie Hawtin, Massive Attack, Cabaret Voltaire, and Yello.
Fabric 17
is a minimal house tour-de-force, bursting with energy, excitement, and invention. The 21 tracks perfectly describe our new 4/4 ethic -- keep it clever, catchy, and brilliantly detailed -- and are beautifully mixed in an extremely individual style. Akufen's love of Henri Mancini, and all things quirky, bleeds from the grooves." "Andrew Weatherall, the well-respected DJ, producer and collaborator, presents
Fabric 19
. In the late '80s, Weatherall founded a fanzine called Boys Own and soon established himself as a leading DJ in London's acid house scene. That association led to him remixing and working with the likes of New Order, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Beth Orton, and Paul Oakenfold. Weatherall formed The Sabres of Paradise with Jagz Koomer and Gary Burns in 1993 -- which released a series of pioneering, ambient experimental techno singles and EPs. Then in 1996, he formed perhaps the most exceptional musical venture, Two Lone Swordsmen with Keith Tenniswood, where the group has done a number of EPs and remixes (including Slab, Alter Ego, Sneaker Pimps, and David Holmes).
Fabric 19
's inspiration came after a recent DJ set at Fabric nightclub, where Weatherall began to set aside any deep and sleazy house tracks at home -- the end result is a mix that features electro, acid, house, techno, schaffel, synths, and electric guitars." "In the mid '90s, a group of Swedish producers burst onto the techno scene. They forged crunching rhythms and firing 'DJ tools,' drawing influence from industrial bands as much as Detroit's golden era. At the movement's forefront was a producer set to become synonymous with his style, and one of the most in-demand DJs of the time -- Adam Beyer. Throughout the past decade since he emerged, Adam founded four record labels -- Drum Code, Code Red, Truesoul and Mad Eye -- and remixed Underworld, Luke Slater and Carl Cox among others.
Fabric 22
shows an intriguing artist, always keen to progress his music and avoid stagnation, in fine form. Adam's newest project on Fabric Records blends the best in Swedish techno talent -- Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch and Adam himself -- with internationally-acclaimed artists like Steve Rachmad, Reinhard Voigt and Josh Wink. The opening track -- Wighnomy Brothers' remix of Slam and Tyrone Palmer -- captures the spirit of the mix perfectly: established names meet the new and lesser known. Elsewhere, highlights include Ghostly International's Osborne getting groovy, Tim Track's warped 'Panic Voice,' and the album's centerpiece, Adam's own 'Snuff & Noise.' Using subtle effects, quick cuts and long blends, Adam brings us a stunning selection of the very best in European techno."

A member of the international techno-circuit since the late '80s, Craig is known for his fantastic releases and mixes. He's put out timeless pearls of techno under the pseudonym of 69, Innerzone Orchestra and others. Warm, colorful house beats connect the dots between the dazzling elements of Defected, Som, Strictly Rhythm and Luciano's own imprint, Cadenza has proved to be a veritable force in the electronic music world. Cadenza has released such stunners as Ricardo Villalobos, Locodice, Guido Schneider, Rhadoo and Digitaline. Varied and vivid, Luciano's productions and DJ sets reflect his rich, multicultural background, with origins in both Switzerland and Chile. Seduced by music at an early age, Luciano started out by playing various instruments, and eventually began DJing and organizing parties in Santiago, Chile. As leading lights in Santiago's developing scene, Luciano and his best friend Andy Schopf promoted the largely successful Sense Club and (including fellow Chileans Dandy Jack and Ricardo Villalobos), undoubtedly becoming some of the most important instigators in Latin American electronica. With beginnings as a DJ and promoter, Luciano soon found himself producing, landing his first release on Detroit's legendary Transmat imprint. Chemistry Is What We Are
(2001) and
We Are Your Friends
(2002), the latter being produced by Brian Eno, from which the single of the title's track (a remix of their song 'Never Be Alone'), was credited to Justice vs. Simian as it was in part written by French electro outfit Justice; and it famously won the award for best video at the MTV Europe Video Awards 2006 where fellow nominee Kanye West appeared on stage mid-acceptance to complain about the victory. They have so far released three albums, as well as countless singles and remixes. SMD are much in-demand as remix producers, having remixed artists like Muse, The Klaxons, The Go! "Detroit's Omar S has been quietly composing some of the most exciting new underground house music of the last few years. An elusive and enigmatic figure, his label FXHE's refreshing DIY ethic -- with almost all releases on limited runs with handwritten label copy -- has developed one of electronic music's strongest cult followings. Having released his solo debut album in 2005, the enchanting
Just Ask The Lonely
, this will be the first mix album of his already celebrated career. Made up exclusively of his own tracks, including special re-edits, this will be one of the most personal and exclusive mixes in the fabric series. Omar's sound ranges from the bleepy and minimal to the haunting and soul-drenched. Hypnotic and often spellbinding, Omar's work has been limited almost exclusively to his own label, FXHE, making only irregular forays into foreign territory, with occasional collaborations with Theo Parrish for Theo's awesome Sound Signature label. Electronic music's ruthless pigeon-holing would find Omar S a tough character to pin down. His music demonstrates both his versatility, and his ability to compose tracks that are at once challenging, and accessible. As easy to appreciate on your headphones as on fabric's main room soundsystem, every track he puts his name to is a bona fide masterpiece dripping with the soul of Detroit."

"Taking the characteristic bump of dirtybird/mothership, including the fresh sounds of Italoboyz and Voodeux, and merging it with the likes of Troy Pierce's stripped-back precision and the melancholic grace of Stimming,
Fabric 46
is the eccentric, animated, wide-ranging sound of Claude VonStroke embodied. Always maintaining a sense of humour throughout, and projecting his playful personality into each transition and groove, it vividly captures the feel of his often imitated - but never replicated - bubbly bass-driven style. Tricked out and chopped up to perfection, the 22+ tracks hold on to a tangible underlying motif throughout: for lack of a better word, fun. Arranged with such artistic dexterity,
Fabric 46
swells and pulses with womps, stomps, climbing basslines and slippery beats; sounds collected from across the electronica map, all housed stylistically on one immaculate disc. At times the mix will make you laugh out loud; other times you'll find yourself disarmingly spellbound; other times still, you may even close your eyes in a delicate daydream -- but most of all, the point is to make you move." "Jay Haze stands out as a visionary in the world of techno and house, a true nonconformist within a blinkered scene. But his work supports his revered status as an exceedingly prolific producer, DJ, live performer, collaborator and label owner. His wide-ranging labels ring true to themselves and never sway, each holding on tight to their own characteristic sound and group of artists: the house-oriented TuningSpork; the harder hitting tech-based Contexterrior and the down tempo dubby tones of Future Dub. Jay also brought on the explosion of 2003's
Textone
, his inventive creation of an online music magazine and internet label, which was created years before digital stores like Beatport or the now-prevalent online magazines/blogs had caught on. Beyond his own labels, Jay Haze's genre-expanding, experimental productions have graced the catalogues of Playhouse, Kitty-Yo, Cocoon, Get Physical, and his remixes have been on labels far and wide, from Shitkatapult to Playhouse to BPitch Control to Soma. In 2005, he released his debut LP on Kitty-Yo,
Love For a Strange World
, an album that challenged the world of techno further by questioning genre lines and embracing all that's unconventional and unpredictable. His more dancefloor (and humour) geared moniker Fuckpony launched his career with Get Physical, the
Children of Love
album being one of the most celebrated underground albums of 2006.
Fabric 47
is the deep, wandering heartbeat of 4/4's most bold, valiant and versatile character; a bright, cohesive mix that is inherently Jay Haze through and through. Deeply-rooted in his free and capricious spirit, the flawlessly assembled collection of tracks thump with soul and alluring eccentricities. Grooving with an airtight flow across wide-ranging beats and styles,
Fabric 47
is a charismatic portrait of Jay Haze's musical clan: the mix not only showcases the peerless artists he works with on his family of labels, as well as the many monikers that comprise Jay Haze, it's also a glimpse into the soul-fuelled, future sound that they've collectively mastered. Teased throughout with samples from his Fuckpony track 'Lady Judy' (a song dedicated to our own fabric promoter, Judy Griffith -- and a nod to the Daniel Bell classic, 'Baby Judy'), he takes things dubbier with Alex Celler's enchanting 'Trapped In Dub', trippier with the groove-laden 'Mellow Dee' (created with former studio partner Ricardo Villalobos in '08), and epic with the penultimate Fuckpony track, 'Burning',
Fabric 47
is Jay Haze incarnate; deep, daring and brave. Seventy minutes in the company of this disc leaves you feeling edified and your faith in music's brilliance renewed."

, the Filthy Dukes go back to what they know best -- uproarious, incendiary DJ sets that sizzle through a smorgasboard of genres. Not so much crossing boundaries as erasing them completely, coupling pulsating kick drums, with dreamy melodies, the Dukes meld song-writing sensibilities with an ability to turn a dancefloor upside down. Throw down your preconceptions and discard your notions of the sounds of a fabric main room - this is the Filthy Dukes, and this is how they Kill 'Em All. The mix ducks and dives through styles and sounds without a moment's respite -- setting the pace from the off with their own gloriously synth-laden stomper 'This Rhythm', they move through 'Beat The Clock' by the legendary Sparks, Aeroplane's disgustingly brilliant Italo remix of Sebastian Tellier -- straight out the book of Daft Punk, and even manage to drift in and out of Aphex Twin's classic 'Windowlicker' before the close." "Magda's latest tour de force,
Fabric 49
, a thumping trip into the otherworldly that breeds a rare feel of mystique and discovery, without ever compromising the groove. Crafted with meticulous detail and loving precision, it carries the weight of any Magda DJ set: intricate 4/4 licks that are bass-laden to devastating effect. Dramatic sounds and eccentric basslines carry the fast-moving, multilayered mix through the rising swells of Circlesquare, the haunting vocals of Luciano, the chilling chords and offbeat pop elements of her kindred spirits at Minus (Gaiser, Marc Houle and Heartthrob), and the funk-filled soundscapes of Magda's own productions. A watertight compilation that brims with lively character, and skitters with Magda's personal touches and effects,

Fabric 50
is a thrilling, unpredictable portrait of today's all-embracing and cross-pollinating music scenes. Powered only by the common link of bass culture, Martyn fuses the deep impact of 2562 and Kode 9, the funky step of Roska and Uncle Bakongo, wildly imaginative creations from Hudson Mohawke and Joy Orbison, and the cerebral trip of Werk Discs' Actress. Also glittered with his own 3024 label creations, this is a definitive snapshot of any pulsating, incandescent dancefloor taken over by the Martyn sound." . Appropriately for the 100th title in fabric's compilation series, this trio have concocted possibly its most revolutionary and forward-thinking collection of tracks. For the better part of the naughties, drum & bass has been looking for an artist to break the confines of the sound's stylistic template, and Autonomic have delivered.
FabricLive.50
sums up their last couple of years of work, and represents the work of a collection of producers -- many of whom have delivered tailor-made tracks (Asc, Skream, Actress, Scuba, Genotype) -- who are creating music for dBridge & Instra:Mental that redefines what the world knows as drum & bass, for now, they just call the 'Autonomic sound'. Apart from being a key member of Bad Company, dBridge has gone onto release on some of D&B's biggest and best respected labels including Liquid V, Metalheadz, Bingo and Soul:R. He's also launched his own label Exit Records, which as well as his own music has released music by Steve Spacek, Rufige Kru, Commix, Calibre, and Concord Dawn amongst others. Instra:mental began making a big impact on the scene around 2007 with their early releases on Darkestral Recordings, which had instant impact for them. Deep, elegant and swelling, the mix transcends listeners to otherworldly soundscapes with a fantastically diverse ambience -- at times sunny and bright, other times wild and mystifying, and always keeping a psychedelic and cinematic feel throughout. Featuring the off-beat spontaneity of dOP, the Latin infused bounce of Matias Aguayo, the percussive retreats of Bodycode -- and plenty of hidden gems in between --

Thomas Koch, aka DJ T.'s, list of accolades and contributions to electronic music are irrefutable, indelible and seemingly endless. There's his editing and publishing work in the periodical world: founding
Groove Magazine
in 1989 and remaining its publisher and author for 15 years (Groove remains one of the longest running -- 20 years and counting -- and most respected dance music periodicals in the world). There were his projects with other likeminded souls: co-founding the legendary Monza club night in 1999 (now an Ibiza landmark) with close friend Patrik Dechent; and co-founding the triumphant Get Physical imprint with M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade in 2002, which has grown to be one of the most forward-thinking, consistent and flourishing labels on the electronic map. And that's not forgetting his artistic contributions to the hungry music world; from his imagination-travelling productions to his smooth DJ sets that shimmy around the globe with an incessant run of tour dates. 'Dis,' 'Bateria,' and 'Shine On' from his second album, the critically cheered

Now working on a debut album that draws from his broad palette of influence, his DJ sets remain brilliantly unpredictable. On his

mix he focuses on the most exciting artists from the house and techno sphere in 2010, but in deliberately eschewing flash-in-the-pan trends he has crafted an impeccable mix that has more than enough quality to truly stand the test of time. A selection that includes the likes of Bodycode, Floating Points, Scuba and Green Velvet, amongst a raft of other sparkling talent. The Duke Dumont marked himself out as a producer of extraordinary promise by becoming Diesel U:Music Champion in 2006 and announced himself to the club world with his debut release, an incendiary electro EP on Tiga's Turbo imprint,
Regality EP
in 2007. He has since gone on to release on the incredible Dubsided, sometime home to the likes of Jesse Rose, Trevor Loveys and Herve, with another dancefloor destroying EP,
The Dominion Dubs EP
. He has also become renowned for his remixing ability. His epic reworking of Mystery Jets 'Two Doors Down,' the hypnotic re-rub of Late of the Pier's 'Bathroom Gurgle' and the pitched-down but rave-y remix of Bat For Lashes 'Daniel' have marked him out as the indie world's re-tweaker of choice and in possession of an extraordinary ability to retune any track to the demands of the dancefloor. Now working on a debut artist album that will encapsulate the full breadth of his studio repertoire, and on launching his own label, as well as touring the world non-stop, The Duke Dumont is firmly earmarked as one of the electronic music world's most promising studio talents and explosive DJs."

"Visionquest are a dynamic, charismatic and unstoppable force that have quietly crept up and grasped the horns of dance music in 2011. Comprising of Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves, four Detroit refugees who each have their solo careers in their own right, together they career through barren terrain and mystical energies in the next episode of the fabric series. In Native American cultures, a Visionquest is a spiritual quest associated with new beginnings and revelatory journeys. Meeting as teenagers in the collapsed city of Detroit, these four young creatives embarked on their own voyage together that has brought them to the forefront of the electronic music community. Surrounded by the explosion of techno in their home city, they each connected deeply with its heartbeat. The youngest of the pack, Seth Troxler's stepfather was himself a DJ and they each began playing and promoting local events. Keen to etch their own mark as DJs and producers in the wider world, they eloped to Berlin and forged successful solo careers, before coming together again to form the Visionquest production collective responsible for crossover remixes such as Tracey Thorn 'Swimming' and Kiki 'Good Voodoo'. In 2011 they formed the Visionquest label that houses a rising circle of talent such as Footprintz, Laura Jones, Tale Of Us and the biggest track of the year from Benoit & Sergio 'Walk and Talk'. 'When deciding together which tracks we wanted to go with we took into consideration the timelessness of the songs, tracks from our past and our present and presented them to tell our story. The start is very representative of the Visionquest DJ sound and the end shows the eclectic sound of our label. It goes from music for clubs to music for life,' said Shaun Reeves."
