The Collectors Series is a new series of mix CDs compiled by German A&R figurehead Stefan Struever, the mastermind behind the seminal DJ Kicks compilations. The Collectors Series is aiming to showcase the multiple faces and histories of dance music and beyond. In the Collectors Series, well-known music lovers from around the globe present gems, rarities, unreleased tracks and favorites from their vaults. The first volume of The Collectors Series comes from Cologne-based producer The Modernist (Joerg Burger), who has been a major figure in the "Sound Of Cologne" for more than a decade. Digging in his vast song collection, Burger has unearthed crisp, electronic pop music that elegantly smoothes the listener's ear. Several mash-ups, specially-arranged blends and exclusive tracks and remixes make this selection a unique and essential minimalist pop affair... The mix opens with Burger's dubby version of "1-2-3 No Gravity" from Closer Music, blending seamlessly into track 2, Mikkel Metal's "Microho," which tightens the rhythmic fundamental. The hypnotic "Late Night Moves" by Repair, is followed by Burger's very own Triola project with "Freifeld," one of the exclusive tracks for this album, followed by Autosundmädchen's compelling track. With Telepopmusik's "Breathe," the mix hits its first peak, succeeded by the Superpitcher remix of D'ntel. After DJ Koze and his dog "Bobby" walk out for air, it's Erlend Oye featuring Morgan Geist who changes the rhythmic format of the mix into a more electro funky vibe. Richard Davis' moody "World Disappears" morphs seamlessly into Autobianchi's guitar twanging track "Stay," which was exclusively made for this compilation. As B.Movement he remixed Ada's "Lifedriver," to bring out even more of the pop-appeal of this beautiful composition. After the original version of "Protest Song" comes a special gem, "Mushroom Angels," which merges beautifully into "Never Forgive & Forget." Round Two propels Berlin's minimal dub sound and leads to the congenial finale, a brand-new track by seminal '80s agit pop band Scritti Politti. The Modernist has greatly delivered for The Collectors Series.

The Collectors Series showcases the multiple faces and histories of dance music and beyond. The second volume comes from Berlin DJ and producer Kaos, in cooperation with singer and percussionist Salvatore Principato of seminal '80s NY band Liquid Liquid. The band is lauded for their mix of percussive, minimal post-punk funk, which laid the blueprint for many of today's "disco punk" bands. So it's an illustrious team which has dedicated its mix to the great legacy of cosmic disco -- the particular sound which emerged in the late 1970s that put slowed-down disco 12"s, new wave, rock, French and German electropop and percussive elements into one manic groove. For Collectors Series Pt. 2: Danse, Gravité Zéro, Kaos and Salvatore have dug deep in their crates, and sat down to create a phenomenal mix which uses various spin offs into the past, present and future. The mix kicks off with Sylvester's classic, "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight." Following is Logic System with a rare Japanese-French pop tune from 1981, which is mixed into the Sylvester song and kicks off the mid-tempo groove, which shapes large parts of this mix CD. During a percussive break from Ola Jagun, Sal P introduces himself and Kaos. Shortly after, the mix blends into the rockish tune from The Bombers. It is followed by the album version of Yello's anthemic and classic "Lost Again?" The beats flow into Billy Thorpe's "Stimulation," a straight but funky-as-hell no wave tune, followed by an equally funky, super rare track from Velodrome, a much sought-after proto electro tune. K.I.M. proceeds with a slick cut that returns us to the present. Next, Zazu's hard-to-find wild tune gives goosebumps. The mix then opens a new chapter: the new school of New York disco with Map of Africa's rocking cover version, and then The Juan Mclean continues, mixed into Danny Wang. ESP shows up with another ultra-rare funk tune from the plastic decade, and after tracks by Fist of Facts, Engine, Throbbing Gristle, Tones on Tail and the much celebrated Tantra, the mix CD rounds up with classic cuts by The Residents, UI, and Augustus Pablo, Liquid Liquid and Arthur Russell. This is 73 minutes of beautifully selected music.

This is the second volume in the vinyl EP versions of the critically-acclaimed Collectors Series Mix CD compilations, curated by A&R Stefan Struever. This release features milestones of the cosmic disco movement. "Captain Starlight" by Zazu has been a cult track for many years and is now finally available again in all its glory -- the original pressing of this tune is up to 300 Euros on eBay. The second side features the very rare Tantra track, "Wishbone" which is one of their best tracks and is one of the highlights on Kaos and Sal P.'s mix. Check 'em out!
