Artist: BECKETT AND STEVE TAYLOR, LASZLO
Title: Work
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HOTP 001EP
"Limited Edition . Very Groovy. This collaboration from Spymania and Planet Mu artist Steve Taylor and the lesser known Yakima artist Lazlo Becket works very well. The 4 tracks range from broken gospel click house to Chicago style workouts, live Prince-esque collapsing soul back to Detroit drone laments. This is one of the best label debuts of the year, we can safely say, even at this point in time."

Artist: BECKETT & TAYLOR/SPANDEX
Title: (Lies)
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HOTP 002EP
"Genre: Truthful live house, wabby trax & rehab edits. This double A-side release and testament to truth brings you more of the 21st century blues. Beckett & Taylor once again cook up a fine tissue of truths, highlighting the sad realisation that everything is dubious. 'Lies' dares speak to the only certainty we can be sure of...that nothing is real and love always wins the day. As if we hadn't realised, 'More Lies' reminds us that there's always more than one way to spin a yarn. Flip this little one over and you'll find the well-seasoned Spandex contributing an equal measure of claptrap, making his breathtaking Hand on the Plow debut. 'Snakeskin Teeth' proves that even mumblings can be the basis for greatness -- this blues-stricken number works through its vocal inability, and comes out jackin' on top. 'Abusing the Body' rounds up this particular outing with a tough jam for anyone who doesn't mind getting themselves into a bit of a twist. So if you feel the 'ow,' you still gotta keep your Hand on the Plow. Hold on."

Artist: BECKETT & TAYLOR
Title: Hired New Hands
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HOTP 003EP
"Laszlo Beckett and Steve Taylor have made rather a good name for themselves in the last few years thanks to breathtaking original dancefloor releases notched up on Matthew Herbet's Accidental imprint and also their own Hand on the Plow label. The record starts off with the perfect re-introduction, if you'd forgotten exactly what Beckett & Taylor sound like, then you're in for a giant smack in the jaw in the shape of 'Where There You Been Gone Find It.' Choppy and stuttered vocals shriek and wail over the damned funkiest electronic dance music this side of Rio -- it's impossible to restrain yourself when challenged by music that threatens to move you this raucously. Shortly after this aural assault, we are abused still further by Caro's re-interpretation of Beckett & Taylor's classic 'Hand On The Plow.' Rarely do remixes work so beautifully, but American techno don Caro has risen to the challenge and produced a track which even threatens the original in terms of wild and funky abandon."

Artist: PLEATED LEMON
Title: Surefire Hit
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HOTP 004EP
"Coming from the twisted minds of Spandex and the mysterious Richard Dytch is this latest plate from the recently resurrected Hand on the Plow label, a 12" somehow destined to be a huge pop hit even if we do say so ourselves. Beginning with the future playground anthem 'Cocks and Fannies' we're instantly catapulted into the surreal world of Pleated Lemon. This is a track that has already been described by some as sounding like 'As if Charlie Brooker had given up journalism and turned to a career in music' (although the duo would rather have you reference Spike Milligan), so if that makes any sense to you at all then you're probably interested already. A campfire pseudo-salsa sing-along flecked with electronic production twists, we would put money on this being the oddest collision of sounds you've heard this year. The fun doesn't stop here though, oh no -- side A is wrapped up by the future dancefloor (umm...) smash Carl Cox and Friends, which as you can imagine is a tribute to the said DJ megastar. Somewhere inbetween 'Zorba the Greek' and 'Now That's What I Call Music 22', we have witnessed the birth of a new genre, we just don't know what it's called yet. We are well aware that some of you are looking for music that's just that little bit left of centre, and thank goodness we have Pleated Lemon to kick us about as far left as our bodies will let us before we soil ourselves."

Artist: SPANDEX
Title: Whats Wrong With You
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: HOTP 005EP
"Continuing from his latest success on Cristian Vogel's Sleep Debt label, Spandex dusts off his glad rags and once again pimps his wares for Hand on the Plow. Spandex has a knack of turning lazy mumbling into the funkiest dancefloor tracks out there. 'Whats Wrong With You' does this brilliantly with burbling soul and stuttered blues funk, all wrapped up in his skintight production secrets. This is house music for the educated tart. Spandex manages to squeeze so much slutty funk into this one track that it is at risk of overflowing at times. Get your cups out. 'Marauding' concludes the A-side with an elastic twang of electro funk. More neurotic than his more familiar 'dancing tramp' sound, this track shows that Spandex is comfortable in more than one style. He's comfortable in two. 'Too Tight' begins and ends the B-side with a knickerless twopenny whore of a techno track."

Artist: BECKETT, LASZLO
Title: Plowtrax Vol. 1
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: HOTP 006EP
"Laszlo Beckett has been let out on day release by his producer partner Steve Taylor to release his first solo Hand on the Plow record -- 'Plowtrax Vol. 1.' Wandering dazed in Steve's absence, Laszlo has knocked out this confusing and brilliant ode to house and techno music. These simpleton tracks are gagging for the dancefloor. 'Guitar Beat Track Parts 1& 2' launches us into the fragile mental state of this release, with Laszlo recording and performing this 'Care in the community P Funk' track with his old garage band instruments. This is Paul Johnson, with guitars in the basement accompanied with 'special needs' James Brown screaming. 'Bleep Me Daddy' uses patterns correlated from Laszlo's last psychiatric assessment... it's clear he still has a way to go. This tough, distorted workout builds with no second opinion, perhaps a sweaty jack is all the doctor should order. 'Keep Counting' ends this cracking release and returns us to the safety of our own frightening sanctum. Wearing a sort of Carl Craig straightjacket, 'Keep Counting' notches up the numbers of recent human horrors."

Artist: BECKETT & TAYLOR
Title: World of Me
Label: HAND ON THE PLOW (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: HOTP 007EP
"New Hand On The Plow madness featuring two Cristian Vogel remixes. The sexiest alien r'n'b madness on the first side from the mad scientists Beckett & Taylor. Things toughen up on the flip with two storming techno workouts from C.Vogel."
