"The excitement surrounding Bucharest-based TRG has been steadily growing with the likes of Radio One's Mary Anne Hobbs championing 'Put You Down' as one of her dubplates of the week, and DJs Pinch, Distance, Blackdown (Martin Clark) and Jamie Vex'd providing support. Needless to say, we have big hopes for TRG to put Bucharest on the map! Already adept as a DJ, supporting the likes of D-Bridge, Goldie, DJ Vadim and DJ Suv, he has been producing drum and bass and hip-hop since 2002. Here, the Romanian demonstrates his versatility as a producer, delivering two superb dark, grinding 2 step riddims, which rebel against the half-step template that has dominated dubstep for the past year. 'Put You Down' is a proper roller, enhanced by simple keys and a haunting r n'b-sampled vocal. 'Broken Heart' again uses simple key stabs and choruses, delivering a rumbling bassline that begs to be heard loud. Based in Leeds, the label is run by Ramadanman, Ben UFO & Pangaea, three burgeoning talents on the dubstep scene."

2008 release, repressed. "For their third outing, Hessle Audio present an EP by Jack 'Untold' Dunning, from leafy north London. Following a massive remix of Dark Angel for Boka Records, this release showcases Untold's unique style and flawless production over three tracks. Kingdom occupies all of side A and is a tribal halfstepper of the deepest order - its lurching bassline and percussion trundle their way through the rainforest to be met with acclaim from Plastician and Paul Rose (Scuba -- Hotflush). 'Purify' continues where 'Kingdom' left off on Side B, but raises the dancefloor stakes and energy levels with the squelchiest of squelchy basslines which provides some serious sub pressure for the tribal dance. Last but certainly not least, Untold rounds off his EP with 'Test Signal'. This tune has received extensive support from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1, as well as accolades from techno legend Pole and Berlin's Hardwax crew. The tune showcases Untold's amazing fusion of old school junglist vibes with ultra-crisp production -- shuddering, cavernous basslines twist and turn throughout, and an urgent techy arpeggio exemplifies the tune's nervous energy. "Celebrating its fifth release, Hessle Audio co-owner Ramadanman delivers his first EP on the label, fresh from the success of his remix of TRG's 'Put You Down' and a 12" single on Soul Jazz Records. The A-side is occupied by 'Blimey' -- skeletal drums act as both the driving force behind the tune and the framework around which the merest hint of melody is assembled. A subtly melancholic, minimal floor shaker. On the B-side, the energy levels are raised while the tempo is lowered on 'Drowning (Version).' It's a tune which harks back to the glory days of dark two-step, reminiscent of El-B at his most brooding. Fractured and stripped-down 808 sub-bass underpin shimmering melodies, which provide rich textural warmth for the track. Closing the EP is 'Tak.' "Returning to the front line once again after the tech-spoilings of his Coiled EP last year, Hessle co-owner Pangaea further enhances his imprint's progressive attitude. 'You & I' skips and melts in equal measures, snappy, skattering beats clatter with an infectious two-step swing, supplemented by a globular bass line, which seems to dip in and out. All this movement is coated in ethereal laments, dance music for sensory deprivation tanks. 'Router' on the flip sounds like a re-visioning of Digital Mystikz's 'Neverland' which drifts casually into a Burial wonderland, poaching a muffled vocal and fistful of ambience, extremely delicately put together. "Bongos, congos, marimbas, woodblocks and cowbells: Joe, the mysterious producer with the everyday name, is no exception. Taking cues from the emerging funky scene and producers like Kode9, Shackleton, 2562 and Ramadanman, 'Rut' and 'Grimelight' are two different takes on a similar rhythmic palette. From a multitude of influences, Joe builds a distinctive sound with sparse melodic elements thrusting the rhythmic percussion into the forefront, which in turn rests upon a backbone of bass. This Hessle release shows Joe's promising talent; his music, unlike his common and indistinctive artist name, is quite unique. 'Rut' is more energetic and lively, reminiscent of the start-stop feel of an earlier Hessle Audio release, Ramadanman's Blimey. A skittish drum workout, contrasted by steady shakers and hi-hats, it builds up a catchy groove that is no doubt extremely physical on a proper sound system. Reverberating chords, reminiscent of the sombre jazz stylings of Modus Operandi-era Photek, provide a haunting sense of melody along with floating synths. After the second breakdown, the mood changes and the tempo is picked up by lighter synth stabs and shuffling cymbals."

"Hessle Audio 008 sees the return of Jack 'Untold' Dunning to the label on which he made his debut release. Dunning began to develop his unique sound in the mid '90s through his formation of the Sabbatical Sound System, spinning jungle at Notting Hill Carnival, Glastonbury and free parties throughout the UK. "24-year-old Kevin McAuley began making music with a two-track mixer, a keyboard and a tape deck. Discovering dubstep years later via the sounds of Mala in the backroom of a Leeds club in 2005, Kevin was inspired to found the city's first dubstep night, Ruffage, and launched himself into the studio. "Following from James Blake's Bells Sketch EP, Hessle Audio 012 comes in the form of a double pack from co-founder David Kennedy, aka Ramadanman/Pearson Sound. David has released on a diverse selection of labels including Soul Jazz, Tempa, Aus, Critical Music and Hessle Audio, the label he co-runs with Pangaea and Ben UFO. Ramadanman has also remixed a variety of artists including the Ragga Twins, Delphic, Beat Pharmacy, Howie B, SpectraSoul and the Bulgarian group Wickeda. In 2009, Ramadanman mixed the seventh installment of the iconic Tempa Dubstep Allstars CD alongside DJ Chef.
