DJUNYA/BORG
Title:
Brahman Dub/Frogman/Kisses
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
IME 005EP
"Subtle yet effective dubstepping minimalism (in a good way) from Djunya (pronounced 'Junior') and Borg. Borg's 'Frogman' even gets a bit breaky, with a trumpet finding its way in there with unexpectedly good results. This 12" really tries to break out of the dubstep mould, and sure would add a bit of variety to all record boxes around the world."

Title:
Time Is Now/They Know
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
IME 007EP
"Massive breaking dubstep from the Romanian producer most likely to go the distance." "Maintaining the abundent pressure built up from a slew of releases for Hessle Audio, Subway an Audio freaks, TRG drops into wonky breakbeat rinseout mode for Bristol's Immerse imprint. 'Time is now' is a taut breakbeat rinser, nicely skewed by a flapping bassline and snake charming melody, sure to be causing damage on the floors what want it. 'They know' is a far deeper cut, settling into a skipping breakstep/garage pattern with darkside dystopian tendencies." -- Boomkat.

FORSAKEN
Title:
Hypnotised/Fighting Spirit
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
IME 008EP
"Bristol-based Forsaken has been producing his uniquely musical mix of beats and bass for several years now, garnering attention from across the world, the web and blogosphere, but vinyl releases have been scarce save for a tune on Immerse Records'
Substratum
EP and a 12" for Peverelist's imprint Punch Drunk. Luckily, Immerse Records, celebrating its 2nd year, steps once more into the fray to deliver an imaginative twelve from Forsaken which is joyously unfettered by trends or orthodoxies, and full of his obvious love for music, melody and color. 'Hypnotised' takes a snippet of Tweet as its mantra and builds a bumpy groove around it, where busy kicks and snare drums are surrounded by snaking bass, and a subtle skank punctuates the organic blend of Rhodes and strings. Heads down, eyes shut and let the beats run riot. 'Fighting Spirit' takes a more epic approach, blending eastern zithers with a wild selection of ethnic percussion that takes a cue from London's emerging Funky scene. Mixed with thunderous bass and soothing pads, Forsaken carefully balances the mood to create a sure-fire future classic."

Title:
Falling To Weightlessness/Aeromonarchs Attacks
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
IME 009.1EP
"One of our favorite Bristol-bassed labels Immerse have dug up a couple of complete shockers from a name soon to be very familiar to many dubstep and techno heads, Kontext. This is the first material we've heard from this fella and it's quite easily some of the finest gear we've clapped lugs on this year, fusing the much loved tech styles of T++ with some proper Bristol bass science for two tracks that have totally ripped the head off it. 'Falling To Weightlessness' introduces himself with a devastatingly minimal riddim constructed from pure bass pressure punctuated with skittering off-kilter percussion akin to Torsten Profrock's finest moments, while the spectral synth-line and deep electronica vibes could be cut from an Autechre side project (well, in our dreams maybe). 'Aeromonarchs Attacks' on the flip cuts into a much deeper rhythm, flexing some scarily toned bass muscle with a honed dancefloor intent that will politely ask any shit dancers to kindly step off the floor please." --Boomkat

Title:
Plumes/Blinkende Stjerne
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
IME 009.2EP
"If you've managed to pick yourself off the floor after ingesting the first 12" from Kontext, sit yourself down for a second and check the styles on this badboy. Not content with mastering the art of 140bpm dubstepXtech on the first 12", Kontext turns his hand to two brutally bass laden techno cuts for the second installment. 'Plumes' sits heavy on the A-side with a purest sub-bass driven tech-house cut speckled with lush synth work, but it's the flipside track 'Blinkende Stjerne' that really takes the piss, charging up another dive-bombing sub-bass mission with dry funked and brittle techno percussion before introducing awesome Monolake style atmospherics of the highest caliber. It's safe to say this an absolute essential, and fans of everyone from Peverelist to Villalobos need to give this some very close attention." --Boomkat

Immerse Records is a continuation of the music policy of Bristol based night Noir, which recently celebrated its first birthday. Although centered around D&B and dubstep you can also expect excursions into other forms of music, a true representation of breakbeat and sub culture."

Title:
Substratum EP Pt. 1
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 003A-EP
"Following on from the sell-out first release featuring Benga & Walsh and the hefty drumfunk of Andy Skopes & Madcap, Immerse Records focus once again on the dubstep with the
Substratum EP
. This is a weighty 2-part release featuring a clutch of new producers repping from Bristol to Barcelona, all supplying tunes designed to work as well off the dance floor as on it. Part 1. Spanish dubstep impresario's 23Hz & Numaestro finally see 'Galleon Dub' touch wax after what seems like an eternity on dubplate! Ethnic tinges and paranoid pads drift over the resonating subs and crisp percussion. Grim soldier Atki2 gets choppy with 'Douceur,' building tension throughout with sliced & reversed drums; mournful strings and nasty squelch bass."

FORSAKEN & DIEM
Title:
Substratum EP Pt. 2
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 003B-EP
"This is a weighty 2-part release featuring a clutch of new producers repping from Bristol to Barcelona, all supplying tunes designed to work as well off the dance floor as on it. Part 2. Forsaken's 'Thunder' kicks off with a warm boom bass and fathoms-deep space ethereals, then the devastating reese line comes out of nowhere to hit you right between the eyes. Finally, new artist Diem serves up 'Sitar Dub,' a stone cold killer with air-bulging LFOs to complement the huge echo chamber snares and classic dread samples. Reviews in IDJ and ATM Mag. Radio & club play Rob Smith (Smith & Mighty), Pinch (Tectonic), Appleblim (Skulldisco), kidkut (Noir), Thinking (Noir), Wedge (SubFM)."

Dawn Stepped Outside (Horsepower MK7 Mix)
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
IME 010.1EP
"The return of Immerse Records to S.T. and the return of Horsepower Productions (of early Tempa fame), here we see them tackle the remix of 'Stepped Outside' and they give it their signature 2-step garage vibe to great effect; a deep, deep bass line and the kind of swing and groove that's missing in a lot of dubstep right now. On the flip, Ramadanman takes on the remix duties for 'Kontext -- Plumes' with its minimal intro and slow-building atmosphere before a subtle explosion of bass and Eastern-sounding synths. Look out for Part 2 coming soon."

They Know (TRG Berlin Wall VIP)/Plumes (Relocate Remix)
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 010.2EP
"This is the second half of Immerse's double-figures celebration, drafting in yet more big names to refix some back cat material. The mysterious Relocate has reworked 'Plumes,' seasoning their heads-down, pounding 4/4 template with a luscious mix of swirling layered pads and offbeat micro-sample FX. Next, TRG revisits his stunning 2-stepper 'They Know,' building the stomping groove as he adds first background breaky detailing to the eponymous wall of bass, and then droning mids for some speed garage flavours on the second drop." -- iDJ Magazine

Title:
Convex Curved Mirror/Hometown Swamp
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 011EP
"Kontext's last release for Immerse was four tracks that defied categorization and wowed most of dubsteps players as well as house/techno DJs such as Ame, Jens Zimmerman, Akufen and Efdemin. Now, he returns to the Bristol based imprint with
Convex Curved Mirror/Hometown Swamp
. True to form, these new cuts draw on a multitude of genres from dubstep through to jazz and techno but do so effortlessly, interestingly and beautifully. 'Convex Curved Mirror' kicks things off with instectoid percussive touches and a filtered stab which builds into a complex rhythmic arrangement underpinned by the all-too important gut wrenching sub bass. When the filters open and the percussion reveals itself fully, it's joined by an fm synth which sweeps across the mix in an almost freeflowing jazz style reminiscent of Minilogue or Matthew Johnson at their best. B-side cut 'Hometown Swamp' treads a more dystopian path, with the futuristic dub soundscapes unraveling into a low-slung odyssey punctuated by intricate and balanced percussive flair, further proving Kontext's ability to take the dubstep template and make it his own. Kontext aka Stanislav Sevostyanikhin, is managing to develop a pedigree of superb standing with the bare minimum of output , unrivaled talent and refusal to be categorized or limited musically, and this EP is the best way to hear why."

GATEKEEPER
Title:
Hades/Tomb (Gatekeeper VIP)
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 012EP
"Immerse cuts a unique groove these days, releasing original, leftfield music, often dark and uplifting simultaneously. This new Gatekeeper plate falls on the darker side of the fence, but that's no bad thing. 'Hades' is a moody skulker -- triangles, pads and trickling sound FX giving way to a thumping bass'n'drum workout, dotted with delayed beeps and cutup shouted warnings. Flipside, the Keeper's original Skull Disco collab 'Tomb' gets a rework, the insistent midrange line slotted into a rock-hard selection of militant breaks, subterranean bass and dystopian mechanical noise."
Artist:
OCTOBER
Title:
Elephants/Medium
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 013EP
"Absolute madness from Immerse here, as October is released from his minimal techno day-centre to wreak havoc amongst the dubsteppers.'Elephants' is a pretty appropriate name for the A, as bongo loops and ominous machine noises are summarily flattened by the phasing bass crunch and trumpeting midrange. Add a dash of running breakbeat to the mix and you have a strange yet effective dancefloor worrier. Flipside, 'Medium' opts for broken techno stylings, simmering pads and clattering percussion setting the scene for the tense main event."
Artist:
SIGHA & SPHERIX
Title:
Separation
Label:
IMMERSE RECORDS (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IME 014EP
"Southern Australia's Spherix has been plugging away for some time, releasing great tunes on a selection of labels, and Immerse have spotted his talent and snapped up a cracking twelve. In collaboration with London's Sigha, 'Seperation' is a pounding atmospheric thumper, silken threads of sound woven around pulsing beats and surgical percussion, expertly designed and constructed to create perpetual forward motion. 'Lesser People' is somewhat harder - crisp drums, ticking hats and solid bass drones flying past at supersonic speed as insane tech FX rip the very air asunder. Accomplished and advanced."
