This is the first album by France's Aufgang on the InFiné label. Rami Khalifé and Francesco Tristano met in the year 2000 in New York where they were both studying the piano at the very prestigious Julliard School. Being almost as assiduous in their clubbing as in their studies, the two began a passionate affair with electronic music commensurate with their classical training, focusing on house music. Things started shaping up in 2001 when Aymeric Westrich, a musician (former drummer) from the same school as Rami, went to New York and, guided by his two friends, immersed himself in electronic music. Thus the three boys sealed their union under the auspices of a common attraction for limitless experimentation. Aufgang's official date of birth is June 2005 when they played at Barcelona's famous Sónar Festival. Fired-up by this initial show, Francesco, Rami and Aymeric concentrated on structuring their songs and forging an original language, at the crossroads of acoustic and electronic. Their music is fuelled by different influences and nourished by an impetuous flow of improvisation. It absolutely refuses to be labeled: it wants above all to vibrate and move people. By using pianos like machines and confronting them with other machines, starting with the drums, Aufgang manages to generate a music that is as surprising as it is powerful. This music is deeply organic and reveals itself fully on stage where it can create chaos. Listening to Aufgang collectively or individually, on a dancefloor or in a living room is an ever-evolving experience: a track can go through many different stages, having many different layers. Once it has been recorded and pressed, it continues to live and breathe.

This is the debut full-length release by Clara Moto. On Polyamour, Clara provides ample proof of her allegiance to electronic music. Her affection for the genre comes in many forms, each imbued with her unique brand of femininity, and she embraces it in all its diversity and spontaneity. Clara takes life snapshots, fragments of emotions and her daily -- and nightly -- perceptions and turns them into sounds. So it is quite appropriate that the opening track should be named after a character in The Crying Of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon. Clara Moto is polyamorous: the full-on intensity of simple little love stories moves her more than relational exclusivity agreements of epic proportions. Nor are we surprised that her friend Mimu should feature on three of the album's tracks. On stage, together, they have acted as the ears and eyes, the speakers and spotlights of a single live set. In the studio, ever since "Silently," Clara has seized every opportunity to line some of her poppier productions with Mimu's tantalizing tales of everyday life. She imbues the sentimental narrative "Deer & Fox" and the Welsh laments of "Joy Of My Heart" with the same bewitching, sensitive and refined precision. When she ventures into more introspective, magical waters, she does so with an attention to detail that a goldsmith would envy. She weaves her sound textures with cinematic tropes, galactic synthesizers and sound effects so understated they are at times almost imperceptible. Sébastien Devaud aka Agoria, entered the world of electronic dance music at a peculiar moment in time. Living in rural France, Agoria first got hooked to electronic music through listening to Kevin Saunderson's classic "Good Life" on the local radio as a twelve-year-old kid in 1988. His next revelation came a few years later when one of the first DJ sets he experienced happened to be from Jeff Mills in nearby Lyon. Agoria started out as a DJ himself, quickly followed by organizing his own parties together with a group of friends. He started producing and releasing his own tracks in 1999, and first gained international recognition in 2001 with La Onzième Marche. In 2002, he released a series of 12"s on Pias Recordings, followed by the much-lauded Blossom LP one year later. This debut album already crystallized a musical sensibility reaching far beyond traditional techno channels. His sometimes-muscular productions also leaned towards electro-house on Stereolove and Spinach Girl, several years before 2.0 French Touch burst onto the scene. Three years later and The Green Armchair came into being, also showcasing a rich musical panorama. Another important contribution has been the launch of InFiné in 2006, a label that Devaud founded together with his friends Alexandre Cazac and Yannick Matray. Agoria's own debut on the label only came in 2009 with his 12" Magnolia/Libellules. However, with his third album Impermanence, one can clearly hear that InFiné has also had an influence on Agoria's own music. As its title implies, the music exists in a constant state of flux and flows easily from contemplative sound pieces to intimate acoustic songs and forward-moving club tracks. The album opens with the repetition of three notes played on a piano, with only the addition of violin, bell and the voice of 20 year-old female singer, Kid A, from Virginia. The beatless "Kiss My Soul" establishes the intimate tone of the album, which continues with the dubby house of "Souless Dreamer," on which Seth Troxler guests with his trademark whisper. Strings and piano resurface on a number of the album tracks, sometimes used in surprising guises, such as the Stradivarius that serves as a rave signal on the infectious "Panta Rei." "Under The River," on the other hand, is a lush ambient piece dominated by the late-night sounds of a horn. Carl Craig makes an appearance as a vocalist on the sleazy "Speechless." Another standout track is "Heart Beating," again featuring Kid A's strong and engaging voice. The song is Agoria's most direct pop-piece yet and an unexpected proof of his strength as both a songwriter and arranger. Agoria has created an album that is at the same time constantly changing while also having a unique flow and mood of its own. While the range and sensibility of his productions still cover a wide and varied musical spectrum, his command of contrasts proves to be even more refined than ever; it comes within reach of a near-perfect balance between cold and warm atmospheres, light and dark, mind and guts.

A couple of those tracks later appeared on his debut for my Static Discos imprint in 2008, The Cold Swells, a collection of music that was previously released on the Synergy Networks, Cyan and I Need It net-labels. One of the tracks was 'Glandula,' a passionate and epic techno track that caught the attention of Alexandre Cazac and Agoria during the pre-planning stages of InFiné, who immediately requested a full album. Cubenx's debut would have to wait, as only a couple of EPs (Glándula EP in 2007 and Can't Throw A StoneEP in 2008) on InFiné were the stop gaps before On Your Own Again could be completed some years later. But there was also a new factor that slowed down his recording process, as Cubenx was moving further away from producing dance music and wanting to focus on songwriting with real instruments and voices -- a task that has resulted in a fertile tapestry of electronic-based songs that may have more to do with English post-punk and shoegaze than with the British minimal techno he is most known for. While songs like 'Adrift At Sea,' 'Sierra Madre' and 'Lovebirds' retain Cubenx's lush sound design and carefully planned dynamics, they are spread out in a broader palette of songcrafting. Only 'Wait And See' sees Cubenx going back to his clubbing ways, a melodic and colorful banger that stands out when placed beside any classic Kompakt outing. The songs on On Your Own Again also retain a psychedelic taint that Cubenx links to his Mexicanity, especially on the acoustic fullness of 'Sueña Con Venados' and 'Mist Over The Lake,' where he wanted to evoke the ritualistic ambiance of a virtual Mexican desert. Or as the piano-based 'Grass' narrates, a psychoactive out-of-body experience under the effects of salvia divinorum -- a search for the inner non-spirituality much in tune with Latin American psychomagicians like Jodorowsky. This strong sentiment is explored further on 'Noir,' an atonal instrumental ambient piece filled with cosmic musings and psychedelia. On Your Own Again also marks Cubenx's first collaboration with Chicago musician and singer Alfredo Nogueira, a close associate of Telefon Tel Aviv, L'Altra and Apparat, on the song 'These Days.' Francesco Tristano released his third solo album for InFiné Idiosynkrasia (IF 1012CD), recorded in the Planet E studio in Detroit. "Idiosynkrasia": an aesthetic manifesto livened up by the search for an idiosyncratic language between acoustics and electronics, a musical odyssey permeated by the peculiarity of the town, which originated the rhythm and blues as well as the techno genres. The eponymous track is reinterpreted here by Ben Klock, Ark, Tom Taylor & Paul Woolford and Fumiya Tanaka.

Two tracks remixed from Cesar Urbina aka Cubenx's On Your Own Again (IF 1017CD/LP). When Urbina heard that Cocteau Twins' mastermind Robin Guthrie was up to rework "Grass" and that remixes by Telefon Tel Aviv and Douglas Greed would complete this 12", there was another earthquake in Mexico. Douglas puts a spell on Cubenx's voice and slow-dives the guitar. Telefon Tel Aviv delivers a no-frills version, enlightened by celestial synth notes and androgynous verses. "These Days" is remixed by mysterious post-dubstep combo Downliners Sekt.

"Sergen," here packaged in its extended version, puts together a metallic bassline and a hypnotic loop of synth, enlightened by a hardened steel guitar riff.
