Artist: CUIZINIER
Title: Pour Les Filles Volume II
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: INS 002CD
"The new 'street tape' from Young Cuizi Cuiz is finally on American soil and fans of Pour Les Filles Volume I will not be disappointed. More crazy remixes (like Cuizi on the beats for 'Draped Up' and 'I Think They Like Me') and more weird-out samples that American rappers wouldn't touch (Tina Turner's 'Simply The Best!'). Dude even teams up with grime superstars Ears, Skepta and Tinchy Stryder on 'Mature Macho Machine,' and indie MC BusDriver on 'No Good For Me.' Just like on the first volume, TTC's DJ Orgasmic makes the majority of the beats, but Cuiz also called in fellow Frenchmen like Drixxxe and Radioclit to get behind the boards. There's hot beats from Institubes' Para One, Ghislain Poirier and Modeselektor, too. Twenty-two tracks; 65 minutes."

Artist: BOBMO
Title: To The Bobmobile Remix
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 10"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: INS 10002EP
"We put out Let's Go Bobmo! a couple of months ago, Bobmo's début 12". Went over really well. The kid is touring, playing everywhere, getting thrown out of Berlin clubs for lewd behavior, remixing Jape and Scenario Rock -- good times. One track of the single stood out and got lots of plays: 'To the Bobmobile.' And lo and behold we received a great remix from our friends Kazey & Bulldog. This is what we had to say on the original Bobmobile: 'The track will appeal to the kidult lurking behind your polished techno connoisseur facade. Drums pumping and shuffling, a cute two-note organ riff, filters opening and closing spasmodically, vocal stabs heckling and cackling, climaxing at some point into a little percussive solo, like a sugar-addled kid breaking into a tap dance routine in the middle of his bar mitzvah.' The new remix brings to the fore the Baltimore components of the original. Parisians Kazey & Bulldog took Bobmo's version of Baltimore club and brought it closer to fancy footwork-worthy reality."

Artist: SURKIN
Title: Ghetto Obsession
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12007EP
"The ridiculously anticipated first 12" by Institubes' young ghetto-bopper / punisher: Surkin. 'Ghetto Obsession': a lewd, yet cold and slightly scary bass-driven tune, featuring echoing rap vocals (promoting our era's true values), a nonchalantly massive kick in the middle. Could well be the beginning of screwed and chopped booty music. 'Ghetto Obsession' 2006: the updated version, faster, rawer, more nervous and mechanic, almost absurdly aggressive. Insanely tracky, made for demanding DJs. Championed by Justice. 'And You Too': a tender but energetic song, quite inspired by Todd Edwards, but with a slow, walking beat and hypnotic, prog-housey synth chords. A ballad of the Will."

Artist: SURKIN
Title: Radio Fireworks
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12008EP
"'Kiss & Fly' is a heavy, truculently paced track which takes three minutes to build up the runway for a flying synthetic woman with a smile so heartening it's shady. She's actually more of a woman-jingle than a proper woman, but I mean, isn't that much better? Then 'Radio Fireworks' does everything, loves everything and knows what you don't know. It's a simple yet dense and solid track, with harmonies that work both like rhythmic engines and emotional stimulators. Its artificial vocals teach us many things about humanity that real voices will never able to. The kick is so tight and definitive you won't even dare touch it, like those super-athletic butts some playmates have. So if I'd have to sum up this tune, I'd say it's like Indo Silver Club + Soundhack + Hooo-lyyy-Wooood sur la French Riviera."

Artist: TACTEEL
Title: Feel It Feel It
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12011EP
"Remixed by the mighty Zdar from the mighty mighty Cassius! We've never seen Tacteel so in love with the club. Righteous anger. It's Tacteel's most violent track ever, far less controlled than anything he's done. This is what happens when crisis management fails. It sounds like a blindfolded Chi-Town maniac running to the dancefloor waving a huge double-bladed axe."

Artist: CURSES!
Title: Hungry For Love
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: INS 12013EP
"Institubes' latest record is a debut 12" coming straight from the deepest pit in hell -- Brooklyn. Curses is not a total rookie, though. Wrapped in this elegantly engineered cloak of mystery, is bass heavyweight champ, Drop The Lime. Under this new guise, he's all about reigniting the excitement of early '90s dance music. But he's so not retro. His peculiar brand of mutated house defies everything you think you know about 'proper club music.' He makes evil records that challenge you to play them out, LOUD, and then amply reward you for doing so."

Artist: PARA ONE
Title: Dundun-Dun Remixes
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12014EP
"Para One made a name for himself as a remixer when he turned Daft Punk's 'Prime Time of Your Life' into a peak time hit. It led to a series of commissions from people like Trabant, Vegastar, TTC's Tekilatex or Mylo. Up till now, though, he never got the remix treatment himself. What better way to start than by entrusting Boys Noize and MSTRKRFT with 'Dudun-Dun,' the first single off Para One's first album Epiphanie? And what happens when one of the hardest-hitting techno tracks of the year is paired with two of the best remixers/producers in the game? Pure and utter dancefloor bedlam. Boys Noize's hit list reads like Billy the Kid's in his heyday: Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, The Living Things, Tiga, The Kreeps -- his reworks of John Starlight's 'Shadowbreaker' and I-Robots' 'Frau' are classics. A firm believer in the what-me-sleep? school of work ethics, he's also recording under a host of aliases: Kid Alex, 909 D1sco, Morgentau, Puzique, EastWest and Einzeller. Boys Noize keeps the track's basic template and makes the hard parts harder, the dark parts even darker. Then launches the rapture-inducing, blissed-out second half into disco-funk hyperspace. It's like starting in the deepest mosh pit and rising to the top of the highest terrace of the club to watch Berlin wake up. MSTRKRFT hail from Canada, but coming from the cold only makes them hotter. Studio wizard Al-P and Jesse F. Keeler from punk disco superstars Death From Above 1979 are responsible for turning Annie, Bloc Party, The Kills, Nine Inch Nails, Metric and Wolfmother into merciless dancefloor monsters. They applied their signature sound to 'Dudun-Dun,' and the result is a juggernaut of heavily compressed synths, thunderous drums and clipped vocal riffs, with a somewhat unexpected Copacabana feel. And oh, those whistles!"

Artist: DAS GLOW
Title: Weiss Gaz
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12015EP
"Para One says it best: 'A perfect techno moment. A track I'd love to have done.' It starts low-key, with a tiny, decimated harpsichordion synth layered onto some machinic cruft, shards of white noise clipping and clicking, then the bassline bleeds in from the edges, delays widen the scope and the whole track swells up. Then a massive kick drops from ten feet high and a vast landscape comes into focus before being swallowed again by a huge liquid moon. Then there is this immense, cathartic breakdown. Sure, such maximalist techno shares some DNA with Border Community, but mostly because Holden, Fake & co. made it cool to sound sincere and engaged in big, unironic, all-engulfing feelings. 'Cathédrale' is unashamedly epic, it comes from the heart and speaks to the brain and feet simultaneously and we're damn proud of it. 'Weiss Gaz' is mostly electro, with shades of ghetto-tech, acid house accents, laser-guided snaps, a huge bassline revving like a V8, and bits of musique concrète. 'Vulcanice' was recorded in one take then barely edited, this call-and-response between two chords also sounds like worship music: it's focused, throbbing, it's slightly hypnotic, it's built around Hammond organ samples. But what kind of sick god can you celebrate with five minutes of dark, grimey flexout? A brusque revolving bass, little variation, small, local build-ups, no release, all tension. Oh, and those ambient sounds? A Vietnamese restaurant in Belleville, Paris, France."

Artist: PARA ONE
Title: Midnight Swim
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: INS 12017EP
"In just a couple of months, thanks to explosive live shows, radical remixes for Daft Punk, Trabant, Teki Latex and most recently Bloc Party, Para One turned from pioneer of the so-called New French Sound to rising dance star. His debut album Epiphanie is starting to come up in 'Best of 2006' lists and the first single off the album, 'Dudun-Dun,' was clearly one of the biggest indie dance hits of the year. After the massive electro onslaught of 'Dudun-Dun,' this second single showcases a somewhat softer side. 'Midnight Swim' is almost a song, it's a hymn to some strange, elegiac version of Ibiza, shuffling in silicon sand. It's Balearic, affecting; it swells and engulfs. We know somebody who used it as a wedding song and it makes perfect sense." Includes remixes by Riton, Surkin and Beckett & Taylor.

Artist: SURKIN
Title: Fireworks Refired
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.50
Catalog #: INS 12018EP
"20 year-old Surkin comes from southern France but lives and works in Paris. Previously on the Surkin show: scrawny youngster produces handful of tracks spread on two 12"s by greedy label Institubes (a Rupert Murdoch company): 'Ghetto Obsession' and 'Radio Fireworks.' Tabloids report: 'Fresh French Take on Time-tested Techno Destroys Dancefloors Decisively.' 'Radio Fireworks' emerges as a genuine club hit, topping Justice's best tracks of 2006 list. Remix offers come in droves, from Boys Noize, DJ Mehdi, Goose, Justine Electra, Kate Wax, Klaxons, Paul Johnson, Para One, Spencer Parker."

Artist: MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS
Title: Road To Recovery
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: INS 12020EP
"In their native Australia, they are the next big thing: the Melbournians sent ripples across the world with airplay on BBC1 and MTV2 UK/Europe, and back home on Triple J radio. For its first non-French release, Institubes couldn't be prouder. They've remixed tracks for !!!, Kim, The Presets, Dragonette, Electric Six and Damn Arms, while Juggernauts' tracks have been remixed by Sebastian, Cut Copy, Popular Computer and The Presets. Lead single 'Road To Recovery' is a dizzying array of stomping disco beats, spiraling synths and effervescent guitars, a sonic mission through laser-soaked corridors and rainbow-lit roller derbies. It's the perfect intro to Midnight Juggernauts' debut album. On the flip, 'Tombstone' is a surefire party starter, so full-on, so anthemic when the drums and guitars emerge from the vocoderized incantation, the kind of indie synth-rock beast that the electro kids love. 'Popular Computer,' courtesy of Kitsuné and fresh out of a splendid New Young Pony Club remix, turns the synths way up and pours lush melancholy into the mix. Heart-breaking and hard-hitting."

Artist: MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS
Title: Road to Recovery Remixes
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: INS 12021EP
"Vincent (vox/keys), Andy (guitars/vox), and new drummer Daniel Stricker (formerly of The Valentinos) have everything going for them: airplay on Radio 1, support from the Ed Banger/Justice cabal, remixes for !!!, Dragonette and VHS Or Beta, two European tours under their belts and a third one to come. Hot on the heels of the original Road To Recovery 12", we wanted to see what would happen if we put those massive discoid drums and laser synths in the hands of two angry young men known for two different but equally powerful takes on dancefloor destruction: D.I.M. from Germany and Curses! from Brooklyn."

Artist: RUBATO, DAVID
Title: Circuit
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: INS 12022EP
"New signing form the Institubes family. Killer big room daft-ish dancefloor stormer. David Rubato lives in Paris. He's in his 20s. Former rave kid. Not a DJ. He studied composition and musicology, but dance music is something of a calling. Got into techno very young. At 15, Rubato writes to French techno legend Laurent Garnier to ask him how to use a TB 303. Garnier calls him up and invites him to come and meet him at Rex Club. 'Circuit' was recorded live in one take and edited down to 5- and 8-minute versions. It's house and electro fighting for track domination, with disco providing treacherous air support to both."

Artist: M.S.K.
Title: Lunar
Label: INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format: 12"
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: INS 12024EP
"MSK's peculiar brand of floor-packing techno is gloriously relentless, quite dark, even claustrophobic. After an innocuous bass 'n' beat prelude, 'Side Story' launches into the build-up to end all build-ups, a seething, snarling beast ostensibly in search for some innocent people to maul, for some buildings (hospitals and nurseries, preferably) to destroy. And when Das Glow shows up and reports for remix duties, whose side do you think he chooses to be on? Not ours. He's right up there with the demon-beast, taunting us puny humans with his own style of deft programming, acid synth lines and abrupt breaks."
