Originally issued in 1995/1996, this set, which originally announced itself as being 'Hallucinatory Patripassianist Song' reissues in their entirety the mini-albums Where The Long Shadows Fall and The Stars Are Marching Sadly Home, as well as the full length All The Pretty Little Horses. Current 93 became David Tibet, Steven Stapleton, Michael Cashmore and Joolie Wood for this album. "With the renewed interest in Bill Fay's past work, the reissue of his first two albums, Bill Fay and Time Of The Last Persecution, and recently made-available pre-Decca demos (From The Bottom Of An Old Grandfather Clock), it's surprising to discover that twenty new songs have remained unreleased for over two decades. Fay has been portrayed as a mysterious figure who somehow created two brilliant albums and then vanished. But as Fay himself has said, 'It wasn't me who left the music, it was the music business that left me.' With no contract or record company support, he continued to write, rehearse and play occasional shows, which is how he met, in 1977, guitarist Gary Smith, electric and bowed bass-player, Rauf Galip, and drummer Bill Stratton -- also known as improvising trio The Acme Quartet. Similar in spirit to Gavin Bryars's The Sinking of the Titanic, the album's sixty-plus-minute title track delves deep into the themes of unknown darkness and ultimate demise. Recorded in 2002 by Steven Stapleton and electronic studio wizard Colin Potter, this is a landmark recording in the field of contemporary electronic music. Restored here to its hour-plus running time, the music becomes much more of a foreground-listening experience. Orchestral-like chords flutter back and forth like ships lost at sea while the sounds of passing cars, boat horns, and creaking doors slowly gather momentum in the background. At around the fifty-minute mark all the extraneous sounds are cut short, leaving only the droning chords and the sound of water. It's a stunning effect and quite different than the dense maximalism of earlier albums."
