"In 1996 Robert and Ronald Lippok (also member of Tarwater) and Stefan Schneider (also bassplayer of Kreidler) founded just for a one and off session and recording the project To Rococo Rot. It was no coincidence that To Rococo Rot´s first release was on vinyl. This is a midprice reissue of Raz Ohara's (aka Patrick Rasmussen) 2001 second album, The Last Legend. Raz Ohara has often been described as coming across as a mixture of Prince and Nick Drake. Raz Ohara's music is a funky parade of confidently groovy numbers that soars through the air, propelled forward by hip hop beats, electronic ambience, and impeccable production... kind of like a European Beck. It's all there, classic pop hooks, R&B balladry, downtempo sensuality, reggae spiciness, hip hop flow, dance music energy and indie cleverness. This album was produced quietly for 6 months in Markus Waibel's Berlin studio. Almost all tracks are pure vocal and guitar music, with hidden samples and overdubs here and there -- timeless, minimal acoustic songs. Revealing. Emotional. Simple and close. This is the 2005 repress of Berlin electronic audio/video crew Rechenzentrum's 2001 album The John Peel Session originally released by Kitty-Yo, their second full length. As announced many previous times this one features their BBC/John Peel Session, on air only some months before the album was released. Enhanced with studio tracks, this made the record into a true full length release. Looking back with endless activities, the debut release on Kitty-Yo and numerous short releases, it becomes clear that Rechenzentrum gained attention because of their immense diversity and their stressed importance on the visual as integral components of their finished work. Releases on such labels as Kitty-Yo and Shitkatapult only cemented their rep as an across-the-platform electro act. For the studio recordings on this record, Rechenzentrum have been joined by Christian Conrad, film-music composer and sound designer who helped them to create filmic music of varied motions and emotions without repeating clichés. After working with wonderful studio musicians, cellists and pianists, the work elaborated into a controlled contradiction between longed-for perfection and well-chosen roughness. For the Peel Session, Rechenzentrum tried to aurally re-create the images that accompany them on tour (shown at live gigs on video and added to some parts of this enhanced CD) through their own force, with their own meanings. Inspired and melancholic, the artists attempted to create modern feelings that haven't been named yet. As simple as it might sound, this is "electronic music" at its best.

"The first album of Rhythm King And Her Friends.. Linda Wölfel, Pauline Boudry und Sara John founded the band in 2000. They developed their own special music style and complex texts, which shows that they pay a lot of attention on the traps and contradictions of society. Queer electronica, marvelous pop melodies with corners and edges, combine sampled rhythms and a playful use of different instruments and singing (in several languages, English, French and Bulgarian). "Jimi Tenor´s first Album release on Kitty-Yo Higher Planes (KY03066CD/LP+7") has already been perceived as Genre spanning masterpiece. Together with the Finnish Big Band Umo, Jimi Tenor had send us on a trip to the past, Jazz, Psychedelic, Rock and Funk had been purified for the present and the future. Beyond the Stars is smoother, but still stimulating for comparisons, Zappa, Soundtracks of the 70ies, Softpornos, Spike Jones, Sun Ra and many more. But it is less a tribute to the past, more a personal evaluation of significant sounds, that were combined to a homogene, soulful and happy album Jimi was inspired by the singing of birds, little waves of finish lakes and especially by the singing and drumming of the Barcelona Buddhist community that is based next to Jimi´ s apartment. and probably by one or two glasses of Caxa. Percusion has taken over an important role. For the recordings of Beyond the Stars Jimi went to the studios together with the luminaries of Afrobeat Rhythm Taxi in Berlin. On board was Nicholas Addo Nettey, who had performed with such legends as Fela Kuti und Ogene Kologbo (Fela's Guitarist). Rhythm Taxi are the spearhead of the Berlin Afrobeat and Reggea scene. Previously also know as Kantata, Saraba, Roots Anabo, Dzen Bii with a history of performances with Fela Kuti, Ras Donovan and George Darko the Star of the so called Burger Highlife. They all play in other formations such as Vitamin x , Afrika Mma or Famaja. Again Chris Dawkins is setting directions with his Wah Wah Guitar, and Jay Kortehisto and Jukka Eskola are taking care one more time of the brass and big band parts. And of course Nicole Willis joins for some sweet background vocal parts. At the end you start comparing again, because there is so much happening beyond the stars, that you cannot explain otherwise, and you cannot deny the cosmic references to Sun Ra. Jimi revitalized a way of arranging an producing formally known from big band arrangements. It sound as fresh as if time has stood still and you wish it did."

Berlin-based Englishman Richard Davis' highly-anticipated third full-length release. Davis' second album Safety (Punkt) was a critically-lauded masterpiece of house music which managed to elegantly create a blueprint for unifying club music specially crafted for home-listening. Remixed by artists such as Swayzak, The Amalgamation of Soundz, and Further, Davis has built himself a reputation as a complex arranger and skilled vocalist, fusing pop elements with deep soul, low groove and electronic glitch with classic song structures to create vibrant house records of seamless perfection. Swayzak invited him as guest singer for their 2004 album Loops from the Bergerie and released the Richard Davis 4-track EP Bring Me Closer on their own label, 240 Volt -- four tracks with unique vocals, outstanding funky basslines and melodies to melt the glaciers. That same year, Davis was affiliated with software company Native Instruments as a sound-designer. As a result, Details is spotless in its sound-editing and dancefloor flow.

Double LP version. Berlin-based Jahcoozi is comprised of Sasha Perera (London), Oren Gerlitz (Tel Aviv), and Robot Koch (Berlin), and this is their debut album for Kitty-Yo. Despite singer Perera's background as a London-born Sri Lankan, the M.I.A. references stop here. A sometimes-gritty, sometimes slick mash up of blip-hop, ragga-tech, R'n'B-fused punk and click-pop illectronica, this is much more than what misinformed people might call grime. A Shakespeare's Sister/Neptunes collab?!! Instead, it's just three youngsters from different musical and cultural backgrounds who met in the electronic music cosmos of Berlin to indulge in an uninhibited mix of genres. At the beginning, Jahcoozi were just into making freaky beats and messing about with vocals. There was less text and less structure. The band then started to experiment with pop; more songs and less IDM glitch for the sake of it. This development can be seen on Pure Breed Mongrel, which contains tracks made between 2002 and 2005. It is hard to define and impossible to pigeonhole the sound of Jahcoozi. Maybe a bit like the (Brit-Sri Lankan-Israeli-West German) avant/glitch-pop trio Jahcoozi themselves. Pure Breed Mongrel is a mish-mash of genres but despite this immense style crossover, Jahcoozi have managed to create their very own sound and house it within a homogenic album which is full of surprises. A pure breed of mongrel. Mongrel music, made by mongrel people for a mongrel society.

This is the debut album from Finnish boy/girl duo Juha Tuukkanen and Terhi Koivisto. Both met in Helsinki and gathered together their experiences, influences and musical ideas to produce an album of chilly, contemplative Northern electronics, and soul-jazz grooves. The boy discovered making electronic music at the age of twelve, always collaborating and networking with the Northern electronic scene and releasing various records throughout Europe. The girl is from a small Kokkola town who was awakened to the existence of music while listening to her mum play and sing tender songs to her in the long winter nights. When Juha and Terhi finally decided to work together the idea of a rather organic music started to develop and Spyritual was given a human voice. Soon these sessions started to bear fruit and after years of thinking, writing, recording and producing, a quiet, beautiful and intense album was born. Wall of Soul presents a timeless diversity of moods and styles merged by brilliant acoustic jazz, sweet electronics and an amazing voice. Spyritual combines the modern-day lushness of Notwist with Norwegian jazz like Sidsel Endersen, plus added pop appeal. The album contains 14 tracks, all capturing the enthusiasm for pensive emotional states and moments, a natural result of Juha and Terhi's composition process. This is the second full-length release from Cologne-based techno duo Sven Zalac and Matthias Freund. Codec & Flexor have been ranked among the absolute outsiders and infant terribles of the dark electronic/new wave-pop underground for a long time now. Killermachine is replete with tech-y beats, dirty guitar riffs crowned with spherical vocals and superior hooks. With this second album they take a more pop-like line, though strictly continuing their merging of indie rock and dark techno/electro.
