Title: Vito EP
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 023EP
"Nice varied six tracker with some live sounding minimal percussion and those falling-down-the-steps kind of filters pads and chord stabs we associate (and love) coming from blokes like Vladislav Delay & Cristian Vogel. There's a house-tempo hip hop track, one that uses what sounds like the Casio home console rhumba preset over some deep pulse, one with this cool record-scratch shift type effect, even one in 3! Pretty progressive stuff from Kompakt, which is saying something far greater..." -- Hrvatski.

Artist: GUENTNER, MARKUS
Title: Regensburg
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 024EP
"Three slow burners on the GAS-eous tip, rhythmic but beatless (no kicks to speak of) long tones and hoth-like drones. Reminiscent of Various Artists' epics '8', '9' in spots. Very cool, an interesting (but not necessarily non-sensical) choice for a Kompakt release." -- Hrvatski.

Artist: MAYER, MICHAEL
Title: Pensum
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 025EP

Artist: SPIETH, JOACHIM
Title: You Don't Fool Me
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 026EP
"Two years after his debut release 'Abi 99' (Kompakt 5) and his respected album Fluchtpunkt on Oni:tor, Joachim Spieth returns to his Cologne homebase. 'You Don't Fool Me' marks a new step in his young career. His sound became much tighter and sexier. Follow the subtle development of the A1 techno track and be amazed like we were when the funk embraces you from behind. On the flipside you'll be surprised to find two brilliant pop ambient gems. Especially the second track surely makes you wanna do a somersault -- like the first touch of your teenage love. Ready for a romance?"

Artist: LAMAS, GUSTAVO
Title: Mañana
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 027EP
"What is beautiful? Flowers, butterflies, diamonds, fluffy clouds, sunset, Kylie Minogue.... and Pop Ambient! Especially if it comes from Buenos Aires' finest: Gustavo Lamas. Already known for his fantastic releases on Traum (Cologne) and Fragil Discos (Argentina) he now presents his guest performance for Kompakt. Amazing dreamy textures layered around a subliminal groove. "Manana' means tomorrow'. It seems like there«s a vision of a better one on the other side of this planet. Hi-tech-kitsch for all people that are sick of depressive IDM stuff. Call your friends. Turn off your radiator. Turn on your stereo. Dance in the sheets. Love is in the air."

Artist: BERING, JONAS
Title: Emballages
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 028EP
"Great EP between kickin' bassdrivin techtrax and fluffy harmonic stuff. Kompakt invites you to a visit to beautiful small town Lille, next to the Belgian border. This is where Jonas Bering develops his unique warm-sounding techgrooves already impressively shown on his debut album Bienfait in summer 2000. With his new EP Emballages he takes a step further by adding some more catchy melodies and unconventional rhythmic structures to his lovely deep drowning textures. Each of the five tracks is creating a sort of exciting restlessness -- stepping on the gas with the handbrake locked. This is prototype minimal techno for 2001. New economy rave for overcrowded clubs. This is oxygen."

Artist: FUNKE, SASCHA
Title: Drei Auf Drei
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 029EP
"As Sascha is a native (East-) Berliner, deeply involved in technohouse history from the very beginning, he can hardly stay with his already achieved knowledge of producing funky Cologne-style techtrax. His third release for Kompakt testifies the restless effort of this young talent -- still hungry and on the hunt for excitement and progression. The epic A1 track touches the dancer's heart with it's dreamy pop feel. There's another brilliant rocking techno piece on the flipside reminding us of Funke's friendly relationship to Berlin's fresh Bpitch Control-outlet."

Artist: VA

Price: $8.00

Artist: LOHMANN, ULF
Title: Because
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 031EP
"Ulf Lohmann, the newcomer of the year. From the deepest suburbs of Cologne, he spreads his musical message around The world. Resistance is futile. His music disarms even the unarmed. Innocence has become sound -- unswervingly pure and beautiful. Like the electronic immaculate conception Truthful as love itself . So, leave the container and enter into the paradise of active oblivion. Shut up, you real world! Here comes Ulf Lohmann, here comes Pop Ambient 2001."

Artist: SCHAEBEN & VOSS
Title: Ach Komm
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 032EP
"What should we say about guys like Schaeben & Voss? It's completely embarrassing to release records by such nasty bastards that never fasten their safety belts while chasing in their roaring Honda Civic Turbo through cologne's Pedestrian precinct. Mothers are crying for their young girls, a protestant youth centre moves to another neighbourhood and even dogs refuse to do their business in front of their apartment. But though we love them! And so will you if you once listened to this amazingly fresh and wild new 3 Tracks on 'Ach Komm'. The a-side is what we call Seattle Techno: Ultraphat asskicking freaky chainsaw-driven techno with a snotty attitude and dark sexy whispering vocals. Purest typical Schaeben & Voss -- rockers to burn the floors. The long track on the b-side will surprise you with it's incredibly Intimate atmosphere and a huge housey bassline to carry you through 8 minutes of sheer ecstasy. What a tune. It touches you to the quick and will leave you with a slightly red face."

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARDT
Title: A.S.P.
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 033EP
"Another real monstrous clubbomb by our man Reinhard Voigt. Known for his works on the legendary Profan label and numerous releases on Mille Plateaux, Force Inc., Harvest & Auftrieb, he's now back with his most smashing techno production to date! 'A.S.P.' carries three straight ahead tunes without mercy apart from the usual 'toolism'. This one's without a doubt the meanest & hardest release on Kompakt today."

Artist: ALL
Title: ALLtag 1-4
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 034EP
"Shimmering soundscapes -- clear and pure like a rock crystal -- are weightlessly floating uphill -- straight into the disco of your heart.... All is all over between laptop, ABBA and the twin brother of Gas. All is Wolfgang Voigt and after a number of releases on Profan/Kreisel 99/Mille Plateaux, now finally on Kompakt. Pop Ambient's treasure chest has got a new jewelry. Another milestone on Kompakt's special way -- no sublabel necessary. It's all about getting the ambient variation of techno out of the eternal chillout room of oblivion. And to make it the musical focus. All is pop using techno."

Artist: SUPERPITCHER
Title: Heroin
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 035EP
"Superpitcher is Aksel Schaufler who is resident DJ at the Total Confusion club in Cologne's legendary studio 472 among Michael Mayer and Tobias Thomas. After his storming contribution for Speicher 1 and a remix for Contriva's club hit 'Monika' which became one of the hottest moments during the last cold winter nights he presents his new beautiful record 'Heroin'? for heights of this season. Kompakt is his work place, technopop his mission -- watch out -- you' ll get addicted!"

Artist: VA
Title: 4 Remixe Für The Modernist
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 036EP
"Let's talk about schizophrenia. One of the most exciting achievements of electronic music's history is the artist's possibility to be more than one person without having to go to the doctor's. Au contraire, Kompakt's new release is able to show you the excellent advantages for the one affected by and the whole society. The situation: person A gets remixed by the persons B, C, D & E. Person A is also person F& G & H. As the persons B, C, D & E all live in the same body (person J) it took the Kompakt people only one phone call to organize the whole remix-orgy. Great, isn´t it ? Legend: person A = The Modernist; person B = Wassermann; person C = All; person D = Freiland; person E= Auftrieb; person F = The Bionaut; person G = Geometric Farms; person H = Jörg Burger; person J = Wolfgang Voigt."

Artist: T.RAUMSCHMIERE
Title: Musick
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 037EP
"Those of you who were drawn into the 'Boltzplatz EP' surely want to take part in this round, too. On 'Musick', bone-dry beats and neck-breaking, 'knarzing' sequences are placing the ball precisely under the bar. Berlin-based T. Raumschmiere aka Marco Haas demonstrates another time his immense floor-affinity. His first-class releases on the Sender label and his own label Shitkatapult, and last but not least his fat live gigs have made him the very king of new German shuffle-techno."

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARD
Title: Hier Und Jetzt
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 038EP
"Those who never experienced how it feels when the bass hits you with 10.000 Watt will unfortunately never understand a record like this. But if you ever and hopefully still enjoy this phenomenon then we got some great news for you. Reinhard Voigt is back after his fantastic 'a.s.p.' which is still played out by the likes of Ellen Allien, DJ Hell, Sven Väth... The a-side of 'Hier Und Jetzt' (here and now) brings you a real killer. Fat rave signals and an extra-tight groove will delight all fans of hard banging techno. On the flip Reinhard adds a good portion of what we call soul to it. High class deep pumping harder cologne techno. Don´t miss this 220 gramm of pure energy."

Artist: KAITO
Title: Beautiful Day
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 039EP
"No long time ago the Kompakt people were sitting in their sun-heated office thinking about the good old days when tracks like Humate´s 'Love Stimulation' or Energy 52´s 'Cafe Del Mar' were played everywhere and loooove was in the air ...That was then but this is now. No nostalgia but a wish rose up: We want nu trance! All at a sudden the postman dropped a little package containing some tracks by the Tokyo-based artist Kaito aka Hiroshi Watanabe who also releases under his Aqua guise on the well known Japanese Frogman imprint. Still captured by the 1993´s trance euphoria his music made everybody at Kompakt Feel like: 'yeah, this is it!' The perfect mixture between Kompakt´s minimal style and good ingredients of classic trance. The title track 'Beautiful Day' is a slamming masterpiece with a little kitsch inside while 'air rider' on the flip will surely be the royal flash in every DJ set. Brilliantly arranged catchy goose pimple techno at its best. Love is back in town. Please file this record under: Hymn!"

Artist: VA

Artist: LAWRENCE
Title: Teaser
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 041EP
"He has repeatedly become remarkable due to his remarkable repetitions and this record overdue. Absolutely. His home is Dial, a label based in Hamburg. A rip-roaring one. Lawrence-techno is poetry, poetry as a kind of resistance against- and for- the -what is up to you. And so is your hairdo. This record definitely proves that laptop-technopop not necessarily has to be a finger exercise for programmers -- it can be as real as life and love, and as sexy and groovy as yourself."

Artist: GUENTNER, MARKUS
Title: In Moll
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: KOM 042LP
Double vinyl version.

Artist: GRUMMICH, PETER
Title: Schleusen Auf
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 043EP
"With Peter Grummich's new record, an (more or less and so far) unknown artist steps out into the public light. But did someone say 'unknown' here? Actually, he's not really unknown. Over the past few years, he has released a number of records under various pseudonyms. Characteristic of him is the clever way he assembles complex, rhythmic elements to form incredible kicking grooves and intelligent techno tracks that generate a kind of soul out of their brute beauty. or, in other words: Peter Grummich is Lawrence's low-down, big brother.Irresistible also his talent to interweave abstract sounds together thus creating a buzzing whole. New techno, new funk, new soul. On with the show."

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARD
Title: Im Wandel Der Zeit
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $14.50

Double LP version.

Artist: KAITO
Title: Everlasting
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 045EP
"Soul-petting almost spiritual neotrance by our Japanese superhero. Perfect mixture of typical Kompakt-style, early nineties trance & soul (?!?). Outstanding release with lovely 4-color-sleeve. Let yourself be loved."

Artist: GWOSDZ, THOMAS
Title: Ring Frei
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 046EP
"Gong! The first round. Direct and straight forward. No tactical skirmish. The vibes are hot. The crowd is raving. Gwosdz starts punching with his legendary a-side. Rough, straight and hard. Followed by salvos of deep hits in sewing-machine tempo. His opponent would better watch out for not going straight onto the dance floor. Gong! The second round. Gwosdz starts with his dreaded schaffel tactics. Much discussed and often copied. But now, it's only about the moment Gwosdz arranges the killer break. The opponent's resistance has almost reached vanishing-point. Gong! You can hardly stand it anymore. Gwosdz again shows his crudest hooks and combinations. For him, it`s like a gala performance. His opponent tries to take refuge in the lockgroove. But it`s too late now. Thomas Gwosdz is new heavyweight champion. He grew up in Wiesbaden. His career has started at clubs like Basement and Schlachthof. Still resounding throughout the land is his first EP 'push' (Braintist and Schnittstelle)? Produced in co-operation with sparing partner Peter Grummich alias Lee Anderson. Nobody and nothing will stop this guy!"

Artist: LOHMANN, ULF
Title: Before
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 047EP
The 2nd Lohmann 12" on Kompakt. " Five tracks, pure and beautiful like the electronic virgin birth plus one monstrous clubtrack. Worth mentioning is the a-side of the maxi: a most kicking rectanglebasslinemonstertrack for the dance-floor which stands -- as grim and straddle-legged as the bounder of your favourite club -- in front of the gate to paradise of active oblivion."

Artist: BERING, JONAS
Title: Marine
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 048EP
"Four smart grooving minimal techno sculptures from Lille, France."

Artist: KÖHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: Jet/Shelter/Jet (M. Mayer Mix)
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 049EP
"The dream of flying is as old as mankind. But what's left is a daily jet race. The airspace is completely jammed. I repeat: The airspace is jammed! And it's vast, the airspace! That's why Kompakt tower has decided to better reroute Justus Köhncke`s virtual supersonic jet into the club. First tests have proved highly satisfactory flight qualities and a 100 percent guarantee against pressure drops on the dance floor. A real turbo-blast by the ex-Whirlpooler! Fit to loop the loop, too, though in a less vertiginous tuning, the remix by M. Mayer, who cuts down the energy consumption by 50 percent and doubles the propulsive force. And it goes without saying -- at constant aerodynamic. When it comes to 'Shelter', there's nothing more to add than this track crushes 'Marmor, Stein Und Eisen' (english: marble, stone and iron...), and that love is back on firm ground again."

Artist: VA

Title: Whistle
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 051EP
"A single sheet of paper would hardly be enough to describe who is this Thomas Fehlmann and how wonderful his new record. Though you could also expect that everyone knows that this guy from Switzerland is one of the most dazzling figures in German pop culture and Pioneer electronic pop music. As a member of Palais Schaumburg, he side-parted punk and catapulted German pop music out of its impossibility. At times when the toilets at Tresor were new, Thomas Fehlmann and Moritz von Oswald, both used to shake hands with Detroit Techno. He was co-producer of outstanding albums e.g. by Blake Baxter and Eddie Flashin Folwkes, and later, with the Orb, he became chill-out-history. To cut a long story short, in the last two and a half decades Thomas Fehlmann has taken part in the decisive revolutions of music and sound and now, with 'Whistle', he comes back and on to the dance-floor in a most impressive way. Fehlmann 2002 breathes in the hippest sounds of the jetzt-zeit and breathes out a perfect EP which proves that he is still In touch with today's club culture. The A-side 'Making It Whistle' combines textures of clicks and cuts with pressure and soulful techhouse. 'Gratis' takes up the shuffle fever theme and flirts with happy ska tendencies and 'Luftikuss' forms the glamorous ambient end."

Artist: CLOSER MUSIK

Artist: KÖHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: 2 After 909
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 054EP
"After his glorious start at Kompakt with the 12inch 'Jet/Shelter' (which is already proofed to be a real club banger) he now comes up with a mouthwatering new one taken from his album Was ist Musik. The track on the A-side, '2 after 909', is definitely a homage to 'Metro Area 4', one of the groundbreaking consense records in 2001. Koehncke destils and synthesizes the funk. The result: it's minimal, it's retro-modern, it's ecstatic. In other words: It's a real bomb! The track on the B-side features a prominent guest of the German pop music scene: Tocotronic's Dirk von Lowtzow. Dirk and Justus, singing a duet, dash forward with the track 'Weil du mich verstehst' (engl. 'Because you know me') and straight into our hearts. It's a ballad. It's about love ... an ode to the children of the night."

Title: Awakening
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 056EP
"The sun is shining again and so are the records. Summer is not far. But what would summer be like without any hymns? Kaito, Kompakt's man in the far east, nips this question in the bud and comes up with his new record 'Awakening'. With only 2 releases, Kaito has managed to conquer the hearts of Techno-Germany. 'Beautiful Day' and 'Everlasting', both records have styled a new sound, a style, DJs as well as any kind of record collectors could agree upon. The buzzword: neo-trance. It's trance without any bad breath or fluorescent tubes, it's pure and fresh. It's gentle euphoria. For a better Ibiza. For a splendid summer of love 2002."

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARD
Title: Recht Erst Jetzt
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 059EP
"We are extremely pleased to complete the first half of 2002 with a real energetic double-banger produced by Reinhard Voigt, one of Kompakt's co-founders and now honorary member. His track on 'Speicher 2' (Kompakt Extra 2), which is far from any revival or retro mood, keeps on rocking the dancefloors and is another prove of Voigt's antenna for strong minimal techno burners. His twin releases 'Jetzt erst recht' and 'Recht erst jetzt', keep the energy level, but replaces the hefty elements in favour of uplifting and acid-ish sequences. The flawless breaks and the fab, fat sound, both make the twins not only a must-have tool for any modern DJ but also a big event in our fun society. Acid heads go!"

"It's so hot that you can neither think, talk, nor even move. Your clothes are sticking on your body like a cheap shower curtain. Your breath is slow and deep. There is a deep silence. Midges are being chased by low-flying swallows. But it's going to happen, soon. You can feel it- first still far away, hardly noticeable. But it will come. The fresh breeze brings the rain. The lightning hurrying ahead of the thunder. This infatuating spectacle uniting force and beauty. Salvation. You'd better listen to this record either before, during or after thunderstorms, At the crack of dawn or dusk. File under: acoustic guitar pop ambient. The artist stays anonym."

Title: So Weit Wie Noch Nie
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 062EP
"The original version of this gorgeous schlager techno track, released in august 2001 on Kompakt's Total 3, would put a smile on a lot of people's faces. Apart from the reworked original version, you'll get two sensational remixes: The one from Frankfurt's high-aesthete, super hipster, club- and label-owner with a three-letter name: Ata. Since the very beginning, his Playhouse label has always been a guarantee for finest German House music. It's his first (!) remix ever and his first studio work since the legendary first Playhouse release 'Holy Garage' in 1993. The 'Playhouse Mix' turns the original version into a mega-hip, late-night monster and reminds a bit of the great Larry Levan and Metro Area's congenious adaption of early-80s disco music. The 'Robert Johnson' club is going down on its knees. Wonderful. The other remix comes from one of Kompakt's in-house pioneers of pop ambient: it's Olaf Dettinger. Who didn't want to miss this chance and has interrupted his creative pause only for doing this wonderful 'Moonlight Mix'. Dettinger's cosy hi-tech sounds and Sonja Luebke's seraphic voice, both singing a duet to the moon. Very, very beautiful, indeed."

"Pretaster to Thomas Fehlmann's upcoming new album Visions Of Blah. After being a member of German Post-Dada combo Palais Schaumburg in the early 80ies, Thomas Fehlmann dug deep into the German Techno and Electro scene and created new and exciting music ever since. With his new 12" Fehlmann shows that he still stays ahead and melts elements from House, Pop, Dub and Electronica into something that is purely Fehlmann music."

"In Superpitcher's case, the past is 'Tomorrow', an unpretentious, little Song on his 'Heroin' EP, released on Kompakt in 2001. A track which has already broken innumerable hearts, decorated a number of compilations and found admirers from all over the world. And now, it's the elegant uptempo version of ,More Tomorrow' which encroaches the dancefloors and ranges among this summer's great superpitched moments (just listen to the gorgeous remixes he did for Plug Research's DNTL, Cocoon's 'Glove' and his tracks for Speicher 4' and Total 4. Apart from the clubby track 'More Heroin', the B-side also features the brilliant 'Time To Cry', a track which not only follows in the footsteps of 'Tomorrow' as far as the B2-positioning is concerned. At present, there isn't anybody or anything who would be able to occupy more convincingly the interface between indiepop and techno than Superpitcher. This is real glam!"

Title: Was Ist Musik ? Remix
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 068EP
"Everybody's darling-track 'Was ist Musik?' taken from the most successful album of the same name by Justus Koehncke starts to conquer the dancefloor. After all the worldwide craziness his maxi singles 'Jet' and '2 After 909' have caused, here is finally a fat extended club version and an instrumental version of his track 'Was Ist Musik?'. When talking about German acid schlager music, we also have to mention Wassermann aka Wolfgang Voigt -- the sole pioneer of this genre. In his famous Grungerman-tradition (see remixes he did for Andreas Dorau/Ladomat), he comes up with two chic minimal acid remixes: the one as dry as dust, very pure and structured, the other a real pumping hammer which, and that's for sure, will set your local club on fire."

Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 069EP
"Buenos aires has its own flair and there's hardly any city in the world that can compete with its spirit of urban beauty. It's full of lightness, melancholy and cosiness which makes it a perfect place for sound artists like Leandro Fresco, vital element around key people of Buenos Aires' electronic music scene like Leo Garcia or Gustavo Lamas. Leandro's music is like his town. His style seems to be purely emotional or emotionally pure. The spirituality inherent in his music pervades marble, stone and iron. His record 'Amor Internacional' features a fine little club hit called 'Cero Uno': a track which reminds you of Adamski's 'Killer' groove with mind-blowing harmonies that will ruffle up your hackle and make it swing and dance. A real must-have for lovers of stylish entertainment and more sophisticated 80ies sounds a la DFA or Playgroup. The three other tracks of 'Amor Internacional' are floating in the seventh heaven of pop ambient music, a heaven that above Buenos Aires in particular sounds to be full of violins. Despite recession or just because..."

Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)

Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 073EP
"One of the most influential bands of electronic music, who has taken a creative break of almost two years, is back! For the first time, The Orb -- a.k.a. Alex Patterson and Thomas Fehlmann -- are sailing under the German flag and approaching the sound of Cologne: The A-side featuring 'Cool Harbour' is really hot. Cascades of strings and overdubs, typical of The Orb sound, are merging together thus resulting in a racy shuffle format. With 'Gee Strings' they have examined the microhouse-phenomenon and consider it right. And of course, the ambient aspects are not missing, either. 'Dilmun' is cruising the pop ambient sea, thus closing the circle of the past and future of of chill-out sounds."

"'Testan' deploys a smoke screen of grainy static, and this turns out to be one mother of a click track. Quite rocky bass motif leads into a fantastic synth melody, like the most amazing, unreleased Eno band tune you've never heard, soundtrack to an imaginary movie . 'Hemper' stings it in a much more Chain Reaction kinda style, wicked little pools of microscopic dub sounds, to a walking pace beat, chilled and as we say, quietly awesome stuff."

Title: Homogen
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 077EP
"Early in 2002 Justus Köhncke's second 12" for Kompakt. '2 After 909' became something of an immediate and what proved to be highly enduring anthem for the Minimal Techno scene, still a fixture in jockeys' boxes to this day. Justus showed himself to be the master of suspense, Daft Punkish electrofunk building tension and excitement with enormous breakdowns and pickups designed to cause pandemonium at the biggest parties. Early words on this twelve, indicated that when Michael Mayer dropped this on his recent visit to Fabric/London, the audience went absolutely ballistic. The title cut is oscillating house-funk-disco shrouded in an intoxicated sheen, reaching an ambient stillpoint until a huge break ensues, as it threatens to reach crescendo point, it continues -- the feeling's almost too much -- it drops and Justus sweeps all before him. Total anthem alert! Flip for some more, err, homogeneous action, a more rolling feel, all tomtom stabs and synthed strings, huge orchestration and yet still the one note jams kill us."

Artist: FERENC
Title: Yes Sir, I Can Hardcore
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 078EP
"To make a long, long story short: this record was meant to be released a year ago on Nitsa -- the label and also one of the world's most wonderful clubs based in Barcelona. But due to thousands of mishaps and blows, this record has never been released so far, apart from various promos mercilessly hammered by their lucky owners. Ferenc is Nitsa's resident DJ Fra and his co-partner Autan, both sharing a mutual passion for early-90ies Brooklyn bass, also called hardcore, with releases on labels like Nu Groove, City or Bonebreaks and produced by Lenny Dee, Joey Beltram, How & Little and the scuffproof Frankie Bones. 'Yes Sir, I Can Hardcore' is meant to be a homage to the era when hardcore was not yet gabber and simply was the most intensive form of house music. Michael Mayer -- also one of the biggest fans of Nu Groove hardcore -- has been made weak with a number of drinks while DJing at Nitsa club (where he is regular guest-DJ) and has put on his remixing machine. The result may be called insane hardcorediscohouse and it just got licensed for the busy Tigersushi collective's new How To Kill The DJ compilation. That's all for now. Get your clothes off and put your hands in the air!"

Title: Normandie
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)

Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 079EP
"With his fourth offering on Kompakt this smart Frenchman from Lille intensifies his storytelling style of hypnotising Minimal. Enormous layers, deep and soft like a oriental carpet flying over his trademark digital grooves. On both tracks, Bering puts more stress on the physical aspects of his music. You can call it what you want in the end this record might be closer to the good tradition of Trance than nerdy laptop Minimal. Closer to Manuel Gottsching than to the makings of those pimplefaced wacks around your corner. Epic sounds from old Europe.... enjoy!"

"It should not be necessary anymore to introduce this Russian wonderkid to the public. His numerous releases on respected labels like Traum, Trapez, Salo, Freizeitglauben, Force tracks and others can be found in every record box from here to Novosibirsk. With 'All She Wants' he undoubtedly delivers his ripest production to date. A strong piece of emotional, driving techhouse with a highly recognizable vocal sample some older people should have heard somewhere before... This track has truly mesmerizing qualities when it comes to open the audience's hearts. On remix duty we find two of the most promising producers around these days. Known through his incredibly creative outputs on Musik Krause, Robag Wruhme transfers the original into a fierce shuffle monster in its own right. The Wighnomy bros add an excellent light weight minimal house version and everybody who checked their latest Freude Am Tanzen outing 'Bodyrock' should start mouthwatering now. It's the new breed here, ready to conquer your attention. For now and ever."

Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 083EP
"Everybody who had an eye on the recent musical past of this guy should be already aware of what we can expect from this record. This is about techno in its purest immediate way. Reinhard Voigt has cultivated a sound that is able to devastate everything around it with the most simple methods. His live sets are already legendary and the rumour is going that techno finally found its 'Mick Jagger'. If you subtract around 30 years and exchange the guitar with a powerbook you'll see that it's not really wrong. 'Kontakt' follows the powerful livesound and goes straight in your face. Yes, it's tough stuff but still it has this typical Voigt-ish smile in its face. And that's a highly infective one..."

"Now it's time to strike back. On Speicher 11 (Kompakt Extra 11) --the sawyer of Saint George -- has threatened us to do so, but now it has finally come true: The daring venture between Germany's almost most favourite DJ and Germany's most favourite guerilla pop label. This record features everything a real Kompakt record needs: courage, glamour, fun, hunger, thirst, lust, sex and drugs and a straight bass drum, techno, pop and laptop trash. And even ambient. Two sides of globalism within the limits of 93. On the first side, you'll get a wildpitch techhouse stomper with Profan-ish side blows. On the second side, a straying minimal popper as well as an ambient die-away track with sound planes and fanfares you don't need to feel ashamed of calling it wonderful. This is the way how you become Hamburg's governor."

Title: Prototype
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 092EP
"In the often-quoted 80ies, they would call it a 'smash hit'. A term as British as the mysterious guy from London who sends out his dog to take this monster hit into all the clubs around the world. The dog's name is Rex and 'Prototype' is his message -- and it's probably the most trendy prototype of a brand-new digital format ever. Imagine someone, after having started his time machine, flying over the mountains and valleys of music history at bright sunlight and his dog snatching at everything that looks somehow interesting. A little bit of 1984, a little taste of 2011 and a long, extended free flight over 1990. At times when the human voice was replaced by bleeps and clonks and bands like LFO, tricky disko and sweet exorcist labelled the hysteria arising from techno music as glam pop 'made in England'. 'Prototype' -- definitely not retro at all -- forwards one of the currently most beautiful quotation plug-ins. And it is also a prime example that techno music has already gone down in history and still is the planet's most exciting style of music."

To combine the power and the subversive aesthetic of the timeless classic techno with jazzy elegance and the glamour of the wide world of pop, is undoubtedly the art of Thomas Fehlmann. Catalog #: KOM 099EP
"After a long absence, our Japanese soulbrother is finally back for spring-cleaning the technoworld with a hearty loading of warm water. And again it´s not easy to say what exactly Kaito is doing. A little try of explanation: 'Sometimes a single person has to do something forbidden to exceed a border, to change something.' Kaito changed a lot with his records. He exceeded a border. Astonished the popes of taste. Got discussions going. He broke embankments and found new friends. He recharged the perception of 'Trance' positively, familiarized it with Minimal and Deephouse. With prominent support of integer people like Larry Heard, Francois Kevorkian or Joe Clausell he reestablished Trance in a fair and gentle way. Again it got totally self-evident. Recently in the club: 'Hey Trance, you also here? -- Great!', 'Yes you´re right. By the way, I name myself NeoTrance now.', 'Really? Sounds chic!', 'Exactly. Also a Sake on the rocks for you?', 'Of course, with lemon. Thanks, cheers!', 'Cheers!', 'Hey Neotrance, ...?', 'Yes?', 'What´s so bad about taking warm showers?'"

Title: Frequency
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 102EP
"Without exaggeration we can say: there were (and are) two summer-hits on Kompakt, on whose everybody can agree. On one hand, Justus Köhncke with his terrific 'Timecode' (kompakt 95) and Rex The Dog -- 'Prototype' (kompakt 92). Both tracks have one thing in common. An almost hymnish, pompous superstructure of melody, that, even though coloured with the trendy eighties touch and freaky souped-up, is totally retro-free and incomparable. Rex The Dog is attending with his overdue follow-up 12" single, and of course seamlessly ties up to the antecessor. While the titletrack -- 'Frequency' -- charged with a good pinch of acid -- enhances the 'Prototype'-formula, the B-side delights with elegant vocal-lines carried by lustrous harmony bows. I look into Midair -- trickles like a prickling laburnum, through the clouds on the dancefloor. That makes us look up happily."

Title: Happiness Remixes
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 103EP
Remixes by M.Mayer and Lawrence. "'Happiness', the most splendid track of the currently released Superpitcher album Here Comes Love, was indispensable to get remixed. To increase or reinterpret the dramatic beauty of the original, was a difficult job. Difficult but also tempting. It was not necessary to ask Michael Mayer twice and Lawrence was quasi finished before he was in demand. The result is two excellent affirmations to the hope, that a remix can be much more than just recycling. The mix by Mayer rebundles the energy of the original and couples 'Happiness' with a lot of craziness. Without losing the primal warmth, he drives your feelings by roller coaster and hits you in the middle of your heart and soul. It got a modern noble rave-tune. Please wack out to it with a big smile on your face. Hamburgs´ expert for poetic techno is called Lawrence. His albums on his own label Dial are a class of its own and certainly belong to the most emotional moments of the newer club-history. You can hear that for Superpitchers' 'Happiness' he invested a lot of heart´s blood. His mix sounds as if angels would sing, so wonderfully lost in reverie. You would like to put yourself inside this track. If you don´t feel anything there, you´re as cold as a Siberian lamp pole. The cover artwork is from Petra Hollenbachs´ amazing 'Happiness' videoclip." This record only exists because of one thing: "...to cause you happiness."

Catalog #: KOM 110EP
Released in December of 2004. "Kompakt is proudly taking part in the current run of one of the busiest producers, DJs, sex and drugs and 'klöppel' n'roll, multi-talents of the club presence. Late Check Out is the name of the work and starts as complex as exceptionally psychedelic. 'Let's Help Me' is a foggy trip with many side-paths. 'Room 303' surely means a favourite hotel room, but it's a dusty minimal-sweeper like Dancemania. And in the end, the pop ambient Christmas greeting 'Kuschelrock' sends us out in the snow."

In the red corner there is Heib aka 'The Unnnndertaker', in the blue corner there is me. The battle is opened. The Undertaker and I meet in the middle of the ring. With the first punch, the 'Undertaker' puts me down to the floor. Beat-up. It's counting, but i don't get up. It's a great feeling! The rhythm still goes through my body. It doesn't release me anymore; I think I will go to heaven. The Undertaker obviously has won the match... What a bliss!! I want more ..... For all the others there are two first class minimal monsters on the flipside. If you liked Heibs' track -- 'Entdeckung der Langsamkeit' -- on the Total 5 compilation, you will for sure get your money worth."

Artist: KÖHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: Doppelleben
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 112LP
Ten track LP version. "Often you will find that one life is not enough to deal with all the things that you would like to do. Yet, as an exception, we are not talking about the traditional objective values like: a house, a child, a tree. If you have an artistic bent, it is more about the question of how to express all the ideas a creative mind is obsessed by. When it comes to Justus Köhncke, he is actually obsessed by a helluvalot of things. This guy is really like a sponge and seems to have soaked in the whole history of pop music with all its inherent, structural beauty and styles. Five years after his debut album Spiralen der Erinnerung (ICI Rec.) and two years after his album Was ist Musik, it was high time to wring out the sponge again that was full of impressions he has collected during his numerous spectacular freestyle DJ-performances all over the world and where he combined both, Kompakt's techno message with the disco jewels of the last three decades in a breathtaking way. And he is full of knowledge that originates from his regular, quasi-scientific analyses of his all-time, most favourite songs. Köhncke is someone who sometimes loves to pass composing C parts as his hobby. (the C part is the part of a song that is neither strophe nor refrain; most of the time, it is the third part of a song indicating the final refrain; the C part is often combined with changing harmonies. A wonderful tool, but unfortunately, it has almost disappeared since the late 1980s in favour of more clubby structures). And it is this highly emotional combination of exploratory spirit with unlimited obsession that makes Justus Köhncke the Alexander von Humboldt of pop music. Doppelleben seems to integrate again the apparent contrasts in a most natural way: 'Schwabylon' is hard and elegant cruising disco funk Daft Punk would have loved to add to their recent album; Herz aus Papier is a cosy ballad called made in cooperation with Barbara Morgenstern; an there is the intoxicating, exotic and psychedelic version of 'The answer is yes' and of course Köhncke's famous brand, his German electronic pop music for the charts of tomorrow ('Wo bist du', 'Alles nochmal'). Heart of the album is the 10-minutes disco monster track 'Elan', because in this track everything starts to vibrate that has made Justus Köhncke the noblest disco knight of modern times. An oscillating promise, a great, seducing gesture, but the promised redemption remains unattainable. Because the disco act has to last all night long. And because of: Who'll be the 'late' to come, will be the last to smile." -- Michael Mayer.

Title: Wellen EP
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 114EP
"When Closer Musik disclosed their breakup in 2003, there was a big consternation. What they showed with their album After Love, was nothing less than a groundbreaking masterpiece of minimal music, that hasn't lost of any fascination till this day. Classics like '1, 2, 3...no gravity', 'You don´t know me' or 'Maria' added a human warmth to techno, that you only knew from jazz and soul. They´re still amongst the most played on Kompakt. Closer Musik have delighted many people. We are very happy to start 2005 with the comeback of both members of Closer Musik. At hand we have Dirk Leyers Wellen EP, Matias Aguayo will follow with his sensual interpretations of Michael Mayer's 'Lovefood'. The Wellen EP appears in the classic Kompakt-format with three tracks, twice with bassdrum, once without. The title track impresses with a bassline that could displace mountains and drops the bleeps on the thankful soul. Out of every beat creeps out a nice melancholy, that in the morning, turns your disco into a church. By now a classic... The B2 position occupies a traditionally ambient scheme, that sounds like Billie Holiday without Billie Holiday. So nice you could lay in and culturally of high quality, if we can say so. 'New serious one' is with its 12 minutes an epos of a track, that is consequently building up tension till the end and is activating that Closer Musik -- typical prickling in the stomach. That´s 'film noir' for the club use. Welcome back, Dirk Leyers."

Title: 1981
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 115EP
12" vinyl EP version. CD Description: "1981. What a year. The pop culture machine is changing. Punk, Wave, Synth-Pop. Glamour and Revolution. Pop to the barricades! In Germany, the famous music magazine 'Sounds' governs the scene. And the 'real' New German Wave has reached its peak, one year before the so-called quote-pop of 'summer of love' saved us from the 'fake' New German wave. And Markus Guentner was born. 'Wenn Musik der Liebe Nahrung ist' (If Music be the Food of Love) is the title of a track on his new album. It may sound a bit overblown, but you will adore it. As if it was a matter of live and death, Markus Guentner conjures his laptop to present even the last secrets of a great love. Emotions have become the most beautiful sound monsters you have ever heard. Three and a half years have passed since his album In Moll. Three and a half years where the master of sound planes has kept on densifying and refining his magnificent sounds. 1981 presents the whole spectrum of pop ambient sound art and Markus Guentner at its best. 1981 can be regarded as Jove at the shining firmament of Kompakt's Pop Ambient universe. And as if this was not enough, you will notice -- here and there -- a kind of bass drum. But who really cares? It's glowing..."

Title: Things Keep Falling Down
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 116EP
Classic 1st single from 2005, repressed! "Bizarre thoughts and classy patterns are not necessarily mutually exclusive, and the same with madness and method. However, one of the lessons you might learn from in-depth musicological considerations is that there may be right-minded, crazy gains which are far more than mere distortions of language, hi there, and welcome to Kompakt's head quarter. The so far unknown Swedish artist Axel Willner cracks every single security system installed at Kompakt's high security demo section by using poppy, self-loved cut-up-classy-splatter-loop-bits-and-pieces-patterns. Most convincingly, the field starts at the point where Profan had already been ten years ago: that is he transfers the basic essence of rhythm inherent in every 'Wicked Groove/Sexy Loop' into a kind of virtual space of deconstructing the self in order to liberate this loop from any discourse-infected, intellectual ballast of its author by means of a kind of mental washing machine. As long as I can dance to it." -- Roy Makaay.

Title: On Frozen Fields
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 117EP
"Not only self-proclaimed fans like Martin Gore or the Pet Shop Boys will love it. The shyest deer of Kompakt has the heart to get back in the glade: Ulf Lohmann his previous releases 'Because' and 'Before', respectively the album Because Before count to the utterly classics of the pop ambient genre. The most tender temptation since music exists. Despite the six new ambient tracks, On Frozen Fields not only brings back innocence. With 'Ohio Roads', Lohmann calls for a new genre, that needs to be nominated. We suggest 'country-schranz' or 'bratz-skiffle'. We can reassure you that everything's ok with your hi-fi system. It has to frizzle exactly like this. By the way, as a gesture of friendship and a little thank you, this 8-track record is available to the normal maxi-price."

Title: Im Remixraum Teil 1
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 118EP
"Hey folks, there isn't much to say. Triola is the adorable semi-ambient project of Jörg Burger. You already know that or you have missed one of the best listening records of 2004. The tracks 'Penthouse Ag' and 'Neuland' have only been released on that album Triola Im Fünftonraum (KOMP 035CD). And because of the persistent request they're now available on vinyl for the first time. The flipside well and truly belongs to Gabor Schablitzky. Whom? Well, the Wighnomy Bros respectively Robag Wruhme of course. I see. Any questions? No. Very well then."

Title: Color of Feels
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 119EP
"For already the seventh time, Hiroshi Watanabe (aka Kaito) sends us his friendly smile over the Pacific. 'Color of Feel' is a wide-wall epic, less trancy and functional than the previous releases, but more emotional, much more intensive. You could almost say more musical, if this only wouldn't sound so stupid. Comparisons with Manuel Gottschings E2 E4 -- respectively Sueno Latino's 'Sueno Latino' -- are out of place. It's this agravic moment, this Balearic lightness that pervades into Kaito's music, that makes it seem unbelievable that his music has its origin in the huge metropolis Tokyo. Well, if you don't have a beach in front of the house then you have to imagine it. The artwork comes from Hiroshi Watanabe himself. The young man on the picture is the real Kaito, the son of Hiroshi. For the first time he was seen on 'Everlasting' (KOM 045). At that time he was still a baby. You can almost watch him growing. Kids, the time is passing so fast..."

Title: Komfort
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 121EP
"After Kompassion and Komplott , The Orb grace us with their third installment on Kompakt: Komfort and indeed, both new tracks tend to be a bit more comfortable than their predecessors. 'Ripple' is a hell of a groove monster, but at a moderate speed of roundabout 105 bpm. Though, it's as compelling as any uptempo techno could be. Do we witness the hour of birth of a new style? We wouldn't mind, would we? It's a real challenge to track down and identify all those tiny pads and sounds that might be organic, virtual, or of a third kind. The Orb are playing tracks on our ears and we love it. 'Traumvogel,' (German for 'dreambird') is another masterpiece of ambient arts. An epic, deeply emotional soundtrack to the sweetest illusion you can imagine. This track, made of harp sounds and exotic rattles of that enigmatic bird stimulates body and mind instead of setting those asleep. This is the genuine quality of The Orb. They invented this utterly entertaining form of ambient. It keeps you attentive from beginning to end like a radio play without words. That's why they are titans of this genre. Do you think this 12" is too short? Well, honestly we do too. But we're very proud to announce The Orb's first longplayer for Kompakt to be released later this year. First pre-listens promise-- something HUGE. But first things first, enjoy your summer with Komfort!"

Title: Null
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 122EP
4 track EP with M. Mayer, M:I:5, Reinhard Voigt, Jurgen Paape. "There is something under way, you can almost smell it. You've heard that a new sublabel is to be noiselessly launched? It's not true. There is no sub-label. Named after Michael Mayer's genre-defined mix CD from 2002, Immer doesn't just signify the birth of another label. Immer is about indestructible love to timeless music. Totally detached from the Kompakt cosmos, Michael Mayer will re-release his personal treasures and secret weapons from the last 15 years of his DJ life. Regardless if they're objects of virtue from the borders of deep-house, or exquisite treasures from the vaults of international minimal techno's almost infinite history. No matter if it's about that top secret nugget of local club culture or if it's just the great stomper that you always wanted to have... Immer cultivates the idea of techno as an established genre in music history for 2005. Its colourful richness of timeless hymns and evergreens deserve a comprehensive review of techno's way forward. But before we get too carried away, Kompakt will be releasing the pilot of this new adventure entitled Null (translation = zero) to be understood as a ceremonial prelude to the official launch of this taster maker collection. Piloted by our humble Kompakt leaders; Michael Mayer, Jurgen Paape, M:I:5 (aka Wolfgang Voigt) and Reinhard Voigt, they open the gates of Immer with a selection of re-mastered, freshly pimped-up rarities to a realm of 1000 promises. Immer means always -- always."

Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: KOM 124LP
Double vinyl LP version. This may sound overly dramatic to state, but DJ Koze is truly here to give the world a piece of his mind -- and the facts are blatantly presented here on this album. Stefan Kozalla aka DJ Koze is a revolutionist and proves beyond reasonable doubt on Kosi Comes Around that nobody else can load music up with so much madness yet balance it gingerly with love and warmth. He feels there are promises that must be given surrounding the multitude of "new lies" that exist in this world today and a true determination of bringing house back to it's utopian place once again. And what house it is... musically emanating the depth and spirit of Brian Wilson with whispers of the pop-fused sway he punctuates as a member of International Pony, DJ Koze synthesizes the absurd with the tangible in infinite combinations, thus creating gorgeous moments in music.

Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 127EP
After Triola Im Remixraum the second vinyl outtake of the album Triola Im Fünftonraum is here. For Triola Im Dubraum Teil 2 Triola, aka Kompakt co-founder Jörg Burger, invited a whole pack of noise experts. Pop ambient legend Dettinger gives one of his rare guest performances and interweaves Triola's arches of melody into a thicket of tenderness. Copenhagen's Mikkel Metal invests no less love and aspirates new life into "AG Penthouse" with Julee Cruise-ish sexy vocals. Bus depart from their normal crackle dub in favor of a slow-motion funk thing that is only two rip-raps away from the SOS band (and only one from the invention of a new genre). Come under the spell of the Modernist himself, Jörg Burger -- a worldwide representative for highly aesthetic minimal of maximum drive and charm.

Salacious, but still possessing a classy restraint. How tender these Russians can be. Heavy rotation, man.

Title: Pop Ambient 2006
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 130LP
The sixth edition of Kompakt's highly-anticipated yearly ambient experiment, that includes new tracks specific to this compilation. Pop Ambient is programmed poetry, field data processing -- it is like a sweet way of getting drunk without having a hangover, because Kompakt knows how to slow it down like none other. Pop Ambient is the orchid in the pleasure garden of ambient music. Pop Ambient 2006 features not only well-known heroes like Markus Guentner, The Orb, Ulf Lohmann, Triola, Andrew Thomas and the enchanting Tetsuo Sakae from Japan and his project called Pass Into Silence -- Pop Ambient 2006 also features some hot new entrants, for example jazzy Uli Teichmann who comes up with free piano improvisations over smoothed sound echoes and who, as the names suggests, is the father of the lively Teichmann Brothers. You will also find two Pop Ambient cover versions: Fleetwood Mac's classic hit "Albatross" in a wonderful version produced by Kohncke/Heimermann and already known from Speicher 031. And Klimek's version of Eric Satie's masterpiece "Gymnopedie." In the meantime, the Pop Ambient series enters its sixth year and has become a vital part of Kompakt's label profile. And this year again, it is the perfect Christmas present.

Artist: KONTRAST
Title: Stammtisch der Verzweiflung
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 131EP
"Two guys have found themselves. Yes, it's true: Kontrast are Justus Köhncke and Dirk Leyers. You think that the name is program. But that's not the case. 'Stammtisch der Verzweiflung' means 'crackerbarrel of desperation.' The promising title of that record describes rather the new and common preference for beats that are well below 120 bpm. The (re-)discovery of the new slowness so to say. The groove slides sexily, lasciviously, almost filthy and at knee-height through the disco-fog. Attention, slip hazard. Shift down and bounce. Of course on the B-side there are two wangers at 'normal' speed, but for the guys Köhncke and Leyers they came out very dark, almost morbid. It's maybe because they were produced in Berlin. It's going off!"

Artist: BERING, JONAS
Title: Behind This Silence
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 132EP
With his sixth release on Kompakt, French artist Jonas Bering proves that he is a master of techno romance. Especially in times where techno is defined over technique than over feelings, a heart-controlled beast like Jonas Bering is urgently needed. The title-track "Behind This Silence" is pure vinyl-pressed love. On the B-side are three tender stories from the classic ambient house textbook.

Artist: BARTSCH & ALEX NIGGEMANN, AXEL
Title: Light in the Dark
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 134EP
This is Axel Bartsch's third release for Kompakt, following two memorable contributions to the Speicher releases. "Redlight" glows from its luminous groove -- an astonishing palate of traditional techno with ten-strike potential. The title track "Light in the Dark," sways with artistic gleam, convincingly warming our hearts with bass... but who can guess that sample used in the intro? "Shining" sends us off with a bouncing playfulness and an unexpected feeling of loving euphony. So Kompakt. So here comes the light.

Artist: KAITO
Title: Hundred Million Light Years
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 135EP
Two-track 12" from the forthcoming CD-only album. The maestro of nu-trance brilliance and cosmic kitsch returns. Hundred Million Light Years is the story of a man who left the earth to return to a universe of expressive, unrestrained music that fully embraces classic '90s trance euphoria and Kompakt's trademark minimal style. This is the dream-filled sound of one thousand and one flying sound carpets. Flickering flutes and jubilating bells. Pulsing melodicism that lifts to the stratospheres. It's music-become-feeling and MDMA to the ears.

Artist: DJ KOZE
Title: Kosi Comes Around - Remixes Part 1
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 136EP
This is the first remix single of the unforgettable DJ Koze album Kosi Comes Around. Farben (aka Jan Jelinek) does the opener and sends "My Grandmotha" through the laptop sound labyrinth. What comes out is an artful and smartly grooving four-to-the-floor bass drum. Koze's bonus mix "Bobby" is noble ambient with a gentle beat, crowned by International Pony's cosmic guest chant. The B-side belongs to Matthew Dear aka Audion who cuts up "Raw" and rhythmically reassembles it. This clicking, swinging mix will conquer the hearts of old-schoolers and surely please the new tasteful minimalists.

Catalog #: KOM 137EP
2008 repress of the 2nd 12" from The Field, originally released 2006. This is Swedish guy Axel Willner and his new single for Kompakt called Sun & Ice. Absolutely liberated from all hipness and hysteria, Willner sings his own story of beautiful-poppy loop essentials, in his very own way. The Field means rustle like silk. Warmed by soundscapes. Guided by the bass drum. If this world were righteous and fair, The Field would enter the charts.

Artist: SCSI-9
Title: The Line of Nine
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: KOM 138LP
Double LP version. Kompakt veterans Anton Kubikov and Maxim Miluytenko have traveled far since embarking as Moscow's most endearing minimal techno/house act SCSI-9, and this is their second full-length release. From Salo to Force Tracks, Trapez and beyond, these lads have captivated DJs and dance floors around the world with their remarkable ability to construct an uplifting, emotive mood fuelled by the pulse of the unprejudiced, techy beat. Dance music has evolved to astronomical proportions over the past years in Russia and SCSI-9 have managed to keep on top of it; whether it be hosting international talent or through their overlooked label imprint Pro-Tez, their contributions and dedication to the growth of the minimal scene there is immeasurable. And now it's time, though they've kept the vinyl purists intoxicated with a steady stream of 12" singles, it's been over 3 years since their debut album Digital Russian (Force Tracks), and they've come up with their most accomplished work to date with The Line Of Nine. This new release puts forward a fantastic cluster of dimension and depth to an overpopulated world of disposable, faceless music that exists in minimal techno currently. Fans of SCSI-9's Force Tracks days will be delighted to indulge through tracks such as "Eclair De Lune" that whispers the early-20th century's magic of minimal-house with a delicate twist of classic piano and sweeping synths. The vocal ballad that echoes throughout the title track, "The Line Of Nine" reminds of Herbert & Dani Sicilliano's finest moments -- pure coffee-house bliss.

Title: Advance
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 141EP
This is the seventh 12" coming from Mr Köhncke on Kompakt and again it's there to bring joy to the world. Some bright person once said that real advance is only possible if you dare to look back. You need to know the past if you want to create the new. Justus certainly is one of those history-conscious renovators. While self-sufficient functionalism is dominating the sound of our times, Justus' erected index finger is pointing towards decampment and renewal. And on the mirror ball above. Joy to the world. DISCO is back.

The Modernist mixes the tracks in such long and sensitive passages, with masterful techniques and hip edits, that a new track arises. Reconditioned, polished and refined with a digital sugar icing. Catalog #: KOM 144EP
DJ Koze's back with a nice, fat bass drum groove that fills you with all the confidence in the world. "Snauzi Peitsch" is filled with eccentric, displaced sounds, which have never sounded so fitting together. "Djungle Froot" fits loops inside your disco dreams. Ending off with "Na Cha Cha," feast on a full-out klöppel bender, and let Koze show you where to find the deepest place on the dancefloor. Can you hear that?

Artist: REX THE DOG
Title: Maximize
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 145EP
This is the third Rex The Dog single on Kompakt. Rex has baffled all with his shimmering blend of glam-techno and Euro-disco that could only be derived from the UK, and his ambitious and extravagant personality has officially made him Kompakt's favorite family pet. Following a massive streak of remixes, we now arrive at Maximize. Our detail-obsessed, four-legged friend returns with no restraint, and has kicked us out of the techno chair to make it their home once again. "Maximize" recalls the dog we all know and love, whereas with "Sequencer," we are positive all will welcome this spookier side to our furry friend. Then there's the last track: he speaks!? He sings!? Maybe we said too much... so, dearest dog-lovers -- it's true. The best things do come in threes.

Artist: FEHLMANN, THOMAS
Title: Emo Pack
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM 146EP
This is the first Thomas Fehlmann solo record after the atomic The Orb full length. On Emo Pack, he strikes dancer's hearts with his laser and scalpel in hand. "The Road" is the first schaffel track to be found on Kompakt in a very long time. "Powdered" is a very fat and massively produced stomper in the signature Fehlmann style. The B-side sets off with "Dusted," an almost ska-ish off-beat track which evolves into Fehlmann's familiar dub. The final track "Pristine" goes right into dancefloor overdrive. And try and guess what the artwork is... you never will.

A massive outing from two of favorite Kompakt forerunners, which we anticipate will find its way into the hearts of the dance community.

Stockholm's Aril Brikha presents a new 12" full of wintery yet warm Detroitish minimalist techno. His previous releases for Fragile, Transmat, Absoluttracks and Music Man have already earned classic status. On these two tracks there is no new "Groove la Chord," (from his esteemed Deeparture In Time release) but still, what these two tracks are doing to the dancefloor has rare value nowadays: there is a lot of smiling, jumping and kissing.

Artist: KOHNCKE VS. PRINS THOMAS, JUSTUS
Title: Justus Kohncke vs. Prins Thomas
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 153EP
The Norwegian Prins Thomas is currently one of the most productive producers of the industry. With his buddies Lindstrøm and Todd Terje he has wiped disco clean and fresh for the new century. His adoration for Justus Köhncke's opus, "Elan" brought these two together in a mutual love of disco, and so he re-recorded it with the Full Pupp String Ensemble. Then out of the blue, he started working on "Advance" as well. Finally, Justus couldn't say no to contributing a fine bonus track called "Tilda."

Artist: FIELD, THE
Title: From Here We Go Sublime
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 154EP
2009 repress of the 3rd 12" from The Field, originally released 2007. 12" version; three DJ-friendly tracks from the debut album from The Field. The blissful, addictive, transformative sounds on From Here We Go Sublime absolutely speak for themselves. Samples abound throughout, immediately giving you a feeling of warmth and familiarity on the first listen that you can't quite grasp... like a warm glove on a cold winter's day. The Field's music literally breathes: harmonious drones mingle with the dizzying swell and reversed motion of bass drums and euphony. There is a ceaseless, cyclical signature familiar to all his music, but that's the most exciting part of The Field -- the beautiful dynamic of beats and space that exists in endlessness. Ten perfect tracks of narcotic, propellant stuff -- an important and significant debut that promises Willner quite a few more laurels to come.

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARD
Title: Charge Your Dreams
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 155EP
Reinhard Voigt is finally back with a clever 12" single. "Charge Your Dreams" is an artfully woven track sequenced to take you on an imaginary roller coaster. Voigt shows off his excellent arrangement and ingenious detail for sound, all for the greater cause of making you move. Don't despair, as the same itinerary is provided to guide you on "Bürger Sichten Falschgeld," Voigt proving again that it's still possible to conjure the best meal out of only 3 basic ingredients. If you know how, less is more.

Artist: PAAPE, JURGEN
Title: Nord Nord-West
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 156EP
This is Jürgen Paape's first Kompakt single since 2002. On Nord Nord-West he reinvents his musical point of the compass. "North" is a very slimmed, straight forwardly marching glitter-track. New in sound, original in the mix, unmistakable Paape. "West" is complex and full of details. A striking hookline meets '80s sounds that you haven't heard this way yet. The B-side is the opera of this single. A bizarrely bent and varied selection of melodies and sounds shifts over tightly-woven, elegant harmony-carpets.

Artist: FEHLMANN, THOMAS
Title: Honigpumpe
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: KOM 157LP
Double LP version. Second full-length release for Kompakt, and the follow-up to his acclaimed 2004 release, Lowflow. Fehlmann is one of Kompakt's most beloved members, and one Fehlmann returns with Honigpumpe: the ultimate expression of the emotional essence of his live sets speaking volumes from beginning to end. "Strahlensatz" starts well below the clouds with a poignant depth charge of emotive splendor. "Schaum" is a dub-inspired crooner, featuring a soothing bass drum that lifts effortlessly upward to the skies. "Little Big Horn" is fueled by a summery soulful injection of Detroit-ish house, while fans of his previous outings will be elated as his always-classy schaffel-techno comes full circle with "T.R.N.T.T.F." and the techno-canticle, "Dusted With Powder." Fehlmann brings us back to earth with a shimmering pop-ambient epic, "With Oil." A perfect conclusion to truly provide (in his own words) "an elastic spacious approach to let the honey flow."

Artist: BORATTO, GUI
Title: Chromophobia Remixe Part 1
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 158EP
Gui Boratto has taken the techno universe by assault with his album, Chromophobia, so it's only logical that it practically begs for remixes. On the A-side we find an enormously exquisite "Mr.Decay" version by Robert Babicz, that has everything that a good remix needs, which keeps the original recognizable, yet is full of interpretations and surprises. On the B-side, darling of the hour The Field mixes "Hera," holding all the unmistakable, fantastic, futuristic qualities everyone loves about this track and about The Field.

Artist: SUPERMAYER
Title: Two of Us
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 159EP
Supermayer are Superpitcher and Michael Mayer, the super-power duo who will the save the world of techno. "Two of Us" is an irresistible bass-driven groove that steamrolls the first three minutes until the glockenspiel puts a magic spell on the dancefloor. On the flipside, Geiger delivers a killer remix in a deeper, dubby fashion without missing the euphoric peak of the original. Last but not least, Supermayer bring back the glockenspiel for an excessive DJ tool. Its mantra-like repetition sounds like a message.

Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 161EP
The second part of the Chromophobia Remixe series is purely dedicated to "Beautiful Life." The original version got re-mastered and re-cut in order to blow up each and every open-air summer jam. Gui Boratto himself provides a dense remix that translates the exuberant original into a dark and sexy club version. BPitch's Sascha Funke did what he does best: he transformed "Beautiful Life" into a cheeky little heartbreaker.

Artist: SCHAEBEN & VOSS (FEAT. SCHAD PRIVAT)
Title: Mental Blank
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 162EP
Hooligan techno is back. It's been some time since the last Schaeben & Voss 12" on Kompakt, but, bad weeds grow tall and with the addition of their singer Schad Privat, they bring it back. Still faithful to their unique, rough "band-techno," this drum & bass feels virtually unplugged -- enough that you might forget that there's a connection between techno music and the technology used. Add Schad's sexy and provoking vocals, and you've got great stuff.

Artist: BURGER/VOIGT
Title: Bring Trance Back

You were probably already wondering if somebody could bring trance back. Well, you got lucky -- the two godfathers of Cologne techno, Jörg Burger and Wolfgang Voigt reunite after 11 years (!) to do it again. "Bring Trance Back" updates their trademark glam techno style for the newest dancefloors. Decorated with a flashy Western slide guitar, both tracks do a proper primetime job. The flickering, elegant groove is outstanding, the tension is incredible.

Artist: KÖHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: Feuerland
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 166EP
Justus Köhncke covers "Feuerland," the early '70s cult-track from Kraut-electronic legend, Michael Rother. Although the track has no four-to-the-floor bass drum, the feeling is 100% techno. On top of the hymn comes a melody that should convince the hardest harmony haters. "Parage" is a synth-disco monster that we all know Köhncke so well for. A tough ride at the disco.

Artist: SUPERMAYER
Title: The Art of Letting Go
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 167EP
Kompakt's superheroes Michael Mayer and Superpitcher aka Supermayer get assigned to rescue their friend Ewan Pearson from the greedy Psychoprog's slippery tentacles. On his dub mix, Ewan focuses on the weird details hidden in the original, letting them ride on a thunderous, take-no-prisoners, bass-heavy groove. The instrumental edit stays real close to the original, but as soon as nobody's looking, he starts flirting with some unknown musical genre.

Artist: VOIGT, REINHARD
Title: All In
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 168EP
With his new 12" All In, Reinhard Voigt audibly glances back to his early musical influences. There's a good measure of old school Chicago house thump combined with the smart weirdness of Warp's bleep techno age. "Missing Billie" insistently pushes the low range frequencies and gently keeps the crowd going without any razzle-dazzle, sirens or horns. The splendid cover artwork was provided by Dennis Busch, who runs the incredible Esel imprint.

Format: 12"

Artist: PARTIAL ARTS
Title: Telescope
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 171EP
Partial Arts (Ewan Pearson, Alastair Usher) present Telescope, which could easily be tagged as Krautdisco. It's hymnal, epic, slightly psychedelic, bacchanal and hovers gently over the dancefloor. The notorious thump comes via the deft hands of Vito Roccoforte who normally works in The Rapture's shooting gallery. Pearson says of Radioslave's remix: "..it's hands down the darkest, scariest, most out, avant, abstract, least commercial thing he's done in years." 13 minutes of drums, fx and weirdness.

Artist: BERING, JONAS
Title: Can't Stop Loving You
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 172EP
Jonas Bering's overall musical mission is the amalgamation of minimal, deep house, dub techno and ambient. "Can't Stop Loving You" is easily his most disco-style work to date. It's a jolly, well-tempered house tune driven by a disco-ish bass line and euphoric stabs, and it's gonna stick in your ears right after the first listen. It's kitsch, it's pop, there's a true love story behind it, and it's only one of three amazing tracks on this record.

Artist: KAITO
Title: Alive/Everlasting Dub
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 173EP
Japan's undisputed master of soulful opulence is back with a smash. Purists might be glad to hear that Kaito stripped down his sound quite a bit. "Alive" and "Everlasting Dub" definitely show Hiroshi Watanabe's skills, with a daring mixture of classic dub techno, soulful deep house, jazzy improvisations and a big thumping beat. This release emanates dignity, gentleness and humbleness -- three attributes you rarely find on a techno floor.

Artist: PLUXUS
Title: Transient EP
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM 174EP
12" vinyl version, from the new Pluxus full length on Kompakt. 4 tracks off the CD album, represented on vinyl here. Influenced by Devo, Jean Jacques Perrey and Kraftwerk through Aphex Twin and Matmos, they set out to tell a very different tale by trading in their traditional instruments for vintage synths, computers and a sampler: thus, Pluxus began to emit a blend of cuddly instrumental electro-pop. Three years of evolution later, the band turned away from their kiddish approach to a more varied and deeper style of creation: Solid State. Banjos strum over rollover breaks and beats with "Transient," a romantic French flair permeates "Perm," and "Contact" emits a techno-fied ruckus.

Artist: BURGER/VOIGT
Title: Roter Platz
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 176EP
In rhythmical movements, the sperm cell swims towards the egg cell and both unite. DNA molecules dance together. Pulsating compressions of energy fields interact, multiplying and differentiating. A new creature is formed that goes through the different processes of earthly evolution accompanied by the mighty drumbeat of its mother's heart. It is shaken by the pulse-beat that augurs destination, wholeness, harmony. Feeling safe within this rhythm, the heart of the creature assumes shape and responds with its own pulse-beat.

Title: Minimal
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"

Artist: KÖHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: Safe and Sound Remixe Vol. 1
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 178EP
This is a remix record following Justus Köhncke's highly-acclaimed Safe and Sound. Aaron Carl remixes "$26" which, in its original version, already is a tribute to Motor City. Carl turns it into an even more authentic piece of tearjerking Detroit house. Robert Babicz remixes "Yacht" -- the bacchanal homage to Grace Jones' "Slave to the Rhythm." Surprisingly, his superb remix reminds of another stellar moment in pop music: Michael Jackson's "Thriller." But of course, not a beat got sampled here.

Artist: DUBSHAPE
Title: Droplets
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 179EP
Fresh from São Paulo's impeccable The Edge club, Kompakt is happy to present Dubshape. The project consists of DJ João Lee and his production partner Ale Reis. Droplets sounds like the distilled essence of the past two decades of house music. It sounds like it's always been there. Mr. Fingers, Marshal Jefferson, Carl Craig, Ray Castoldi, Dixon, it's all in there. Droplets is like a great bottle of red wine, but you shouldn't put this record in your basement. It should be played out loud.

Title: Kompakt Total 9
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 3LP
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: KOM 180LP
Triple LP version; 10 tracks from the double CD version. Summer is here again, and that means another shining Total compilation from Kompakt. This is the ninth Total, and it marks 15 years of enduring music from Cologne's hardest-working label. 15 years ago, Kompakt came together as a partnership between techno musicians Michael Mayer, Wolfgang Voigt (aka Gas, Mike Ink, M:I:5), Jürgen Paape, and Reinhard Voigt initially as a record shop that today boasts pretty much every service a musician could ever dream of. From their in-house record labels (Kompakt, K2, Kom Ex/Speicher and Kompakt Pop), record shop (digital and physical), distribution hub for over 50 exclusive worldwide labels, recording studios, booking/management agency and so much more, Kompakt strives to keep to its DIY roots by putting music first -- something that is most certainly reflected on this double platter of joyfulness called Total 9. Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 181EP

SSSSHHHHHHHHH!

Artist: GEOFFROY & KOLOMBO PRES. MUGWUMP
Title: Meditation EP
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 182EP
Mugguomp was an Algonquian word meaning "person of importance" or "war leader." Charles Anderson Dana, editor of the now-defunct New York Sun, gave the Mugwumps their political moniker, often portrayed as "fence-sitters," with part of their body on the side of the Democrats and the other on the side of the Republicans. However, Geoffroy & Kolombo refer to William Burroughs' drug-induced reptile weirdos from Naked Lunch. Mugwump's music is fat, warm & sexy -- classic house with new magic tricks.

Artist: AGUAYO, MATIAS
Title: Walter Neff
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 183EP
Walter Neff: "Suddenly it came over me that everything would go wrong. It sounds crazy, Keyes, but it's true, so help me. I couldn't hear my own footsteps. It was the walk of a dead man. Yes, I killed him. I killed him for money -- and a woman -- and I didn't get the money and I didn't get the woman. Pretty, isn't it?" --excerpt from Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity (1944)

Artist: KOHNCKE, JUSTUS
Title: Don't Go
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 185EP
Following his own tradition of creating one modern disco monument after the next, Justus Köhncke once again straddles the line between past and future, kitsch and avant-garde, German precision and total lunacy. With its infectious hook and breakneck bass line, "Don't Go" is nothing short of another instant classic. Dirk Leyers presents a deeply pounding remix of "(It's Gonna Be) Alright" off Köhncke's album Safe and Sound (KOMP 063CD), slingshotting the track to the middle of the main floor without sacrificing its soul.

Title: Pop Ambient 2009
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: LP+CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: KOM 186LP
LP version. Includes free CD of the entire album, featuring the CD-only track by Klimek And Husak. The bliss is finally back -- presenting the 2009 edition of Kompakt's highly-anticipated fan-favorite series, Pop Ambient. To the uninitiated, Pop Ambient serves as a very essential arm of the Kompakt family -- always curated by Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt (aka Gas, Burger/Ink, etc.), always offering a provocative collection of listening music that is guaranteed to give you warmth throughout those cold winter months. One of the most striking things many will find on this year's edition are the many new faces, compared to the historically familiar roster that has graced previous editions. Leading noise/experimental producer Tim Hecker of Alien8 and Kranky fame joins in with a tremendous contribution that builds wave after wave of textured noise and melody. Boomkat's winners of best album of 2008, The Fun Years take loop melody and turn it inside-out with an astounding, exclusive, guitar-based tune. Pop Ambient 2009 turns to the mighty imprint Type and the esteemed producer Sylvain Chauveau with two contributions of untreated works from the lovely Nuage full-length that straddles his work with a small ensemble and his own piano and guitar performances. Considering the overwhelming response to Wolfgang Voigt's Gas collection reissue Nah Und Fern and the Raster-Noton book/CD of 2008, it's fair game he dominates this compilation under the guise of Mint, with this deep and somberly moving piece, as well as together with longtime production partner Jörg Burger as Burger/Voigt with a Gas-eous remix of Jürgen Paape's "Ausking" and a highly-emotive original. Popnoname shows off his diverse talent with a Kraut-y sunscape of majestic measure. Finally, Pop Ambient favorite Klimek appears in stunning splendor... the horns of heaven ring loud to open the compilation, and together with Husak, he brings Pop Ambient 2009 to an end with a majestic roar. Considering that 2008 was such an amazing year for left-field electronic music, Kompakt anticipates this year's change of pace will be welcomed by their loyal fans and maybe make some new friends with a new sound. Other artists include: Marsen Jules and Andrew Thomas.

Title: Fears Inc.
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM 189EP
Brussels-based Geoffroy and Kolombo take you to the dark side of house music. "Fears Inc." sounds like a combination of an alternative soundtrack to Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers and mid-'90s Strictly Rhythm house. Mugwump help roll out a sanguine deep house track that builds up to a total frenzy, bloodcurdling screams included. "Nothing Without You" recalls the year 1988, when DJs at the Boccaccio Club fused EBM and acid house into new beat -- a highly energetic ancestor of modern European techno.

Artist: BORATTO, GUI

Amidst a rigorous touring schedule and busy family life arises Take My Breath Away. Artist: FIELD, THE
Title: Yesterday And Today
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP+CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: KOM 193LP
Gatefold, double vinyl version (with free CD of the same content included) of the highly-anticipated second full-length release by Axel Willner aka The Field for the Kompakt label. Here We Go Sublime was one of the most acclaimed releases of 2007, receiving a 9.0 on Pitchfork and universal praise. Pitchfork described it as "the soundtrack to the spit-shined airport of your dreams -- faceless, futuristic, and fuzzy. You could dance to it, sleep to it, or daydream to it." The BBC called it "one of those rare albums that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it." Yesterday And Today is more organic, and finds Willner expanding his palette, continuing the oblique sampling strategy of From Here We Go Sublime while building up the rhythmic architecture. The album features a group of different musicians, and on the title track, Willner collaborates for the first time with Battles drummer, John Stanier. Since startling the world with his debut, Willner has been highly in demand as a remixer, with tracks from Thom Yorke to Battles to Maps raising his profile, so that now legions are gathered, in that spit-shined terminal, waiting for their blissed-out departure.

"There is a new term going around cologne: abspeichern! - friendly beckoning to Frankfurt where they have been heavily pumping for quite a while now, Kompakt sends out a new racer: it's hard but it's fair. It's simple but two- to three-dimensional. But above all, it's rocking as if there wasn't a tomorrow. Following the hot predecessors by M. Mayer, Superpitcher and the brothers Voigt, it's now time for the 5th push -- again released by the brothers voigt: Reinhard Voigt -- also called 'the kompakt animal' due to his most successful live performances in Germany and abroad -- at his best regarding pressure and hardness. His track 'Dorn' is a pitbull with knacking acid sounds. Wolfgang Voigt, in contrast, comes up with 'Vision 03'. A real jewel where he concentrates the very beginnings of 'Roxy'/Speicher 3 to a so far unknown mutation of disco music and which, if played at the right time, exhibits an tremendous emotional power. The tempo is sexy, the sound like a soft stone. A kaleidoscope of colours. And the world is plunged in a light of hope and a better tomorrow. May the planet keep on dancing. But with a vision...."

"It's the good old, but still highly enjoyable, story of 'every cup finds it cupboard'. You've heard a hundred times before. Two things match so perfectly, it looks as if it has always been like that. The perfect fusion.... And so forth. When two become one. Actually, these little miracles do happen time and again. And Kompakt is really pleased and highly delighted to partake in such a miracle again. On the one hand, there are Quarks who have left their mothership Monika and taken a new course on Home records. The result is a new album and a gorgeous single. And of course there are remixes.... On the other hand there is Superpitcher who ranks among the top 10 in the German remixer scene. At the moment, he is the inimitable interface personified combining indiepop with techno or electronica. No pains, no gains. No rock, no roll. 'I Walk Superpitcher Shuffle Mix' is full of sexual, subversive energy, it's almost obscene. The voice, the digital air guitars, the bass drum, the hi-hats, the breaks, the sweat. This really is the new danceable rock music everyone is talking about. The Hives, The Strokes, The Ark, The Faint....ok ok, but: 'if it doesn't ass, then it's for the rock'. Amen.

"Here we are again. In the middle of life. Those rituals of the urbans in summer are so oddly affecting. There is a comprehensive offering of wonderful periphrasis and comparisons coming up. And we have chosen and decided: what happens outside, on innocent sun-, mon- or whatever-days afternoons under the sun from wherever, pent-up between several towers of boxes, mostly resembles to the droll ado on a baboonrock. The males and females, always striking weird poses and grimaces, sometimes hilariously romping out of the group, sometimes scratching their forehead, yelling, racing, delousing, making love and so on. These things are totally obvious for us. There is no difference. If you want to know it precisely check out papa´s bookcase, in 'Brehm´s' animal life under "B" like baboon. It´s right that we only clambered a few steps of the evolution ladder, but who promises us, that it gets even better upstairs?"

"Two Canadian guys that live in Berlin. One one hand the Canadian Jake Fairley, that celebrates his love for 'hardrock-sawing-schaffel-with-Iggy-Pop-vocals' in his currently released album on Dumb Unit -- Touch Not the Cat. His Speicher track now shows him from a total different side. Frantic is a lucent, transparent and firm groove monster that due to metallic sequencer sounds, reminds of daf in its best way. Great track. On the other hand, our dear friend Peter Grummich, that always finds the time to release some tracks on Kompakt, even though he has his own label in the meantime. Motorized is a sweeping 'Sägezahn' track and a good example that it's not a question of old or new music but much more of being inspired or not. And that track is inspired. Feel free to feel."

"When some months ago sender released the Rocket Skating EP, the smart ass techno community was totally flabbergasted. It was obviously the beginning of a promising travel that allowed a breakpoint at Kompakt to kindly honour the Speicher of a thousand promises. Misc had a kicking and slamming guest present called 'Status Now'. A smart piece of techno full of charm and hit appeal. Catch as catch can. On the eagle side we hear Thomas Gwosdz, the eternal sleeper of Germany´s most favoured shooting stand of techno. With 'Keiler' he shoots the best bassline since... We don't tell. As Speicher as it gets, baby! Gush. By the way. On the Kompakt Extra / Speicher records the A-side is the one with the title on top. The B-side is the eagle-side with the title at the bottom. 25th volume in this series, featuring DJ Koze (a.k.a. Monaco Schranze) with "Der Jager von St. Georg" and Gebr Teichmann with "Dande And More". "That's how we like it. DJ Koze turns in the bass in such an extent, that the chicks shit in their pants by fear. Sexism never was brought on the point in such a friendly way. So it doesn't surprise anymore that there are no female producers releasing on Kompakt. But you live freely if you haven't a reputation to lose. Well done, Koze! The entire Teichmann Brothers haven't been our guests for a while, strictly speaking since their world hit 'Aus der Ferne' (KOM 014). But it was worth waiting in many ways. Not only, that the alert brother couple set up psychedelic techno with Chris Isaak-ish Blues-Pop. But also they manage to give the whole thing a romantic touch, that should at least placate the female buyership. Of course that's nothing but wishful thinking of the Kompakt responsibles. Basically they're aware of their misconductings and await the things that may come. If Alice Schwarzer will call personally?"

Tracks: Mathew Jonson & The Mole: "Dirt Road And A Boat From Soundwave"; Axel Bartsch: "Galaxy". "Connect your ears and fasten your seat belts, please! Here comes the biggest Speicher since a long time... Imagine an extraordinary Mathew Jonson track and make it a little more abysmal, pull the arrangement on 10 minutes without making it boring, and add a little bit of eroticism, then you know how 'dirt road and boat from soundwave' sounds. Hey folks, that's pure future disco. On the other side a young man called Axel Bartsch starts up with equal guns. Bartsch sounds like Reinhard Voigt and Drexciya literally pinched in an elevator. As one half of Vanguard, he delivered many hits, 'Galaxy' is the first on his solo-path. And what a bomb it is... Folks, listen to the signals!"

Tracks: Michael Mayer & Reinhard Voigt: "Sky Dumont"; The Modernist: "Waldorf Hysteria". "Time for family business, folks, the primary rocks Michael Mayer and Reinhard Voigt, the Starsky and Hutch of the maximal minimal techno, ennoble the well-known actor Sky Dumont. Their groove ode is a fat piece of wideband techno with elegant gash. Just as classic as modern. The flipside belongs to our old blood brother Joerg 'The Modernist'. As sure as the Fort Knox and the 'amen' of the church of bassdrum, The Modernist celebrates the manifesto of groove, called 'The Sound of the Modernist', on his undeviating trip into the praised land of instant funk. Values, baby."

"Bayer Leverkusen's notorious right-footy is back. When in 1999 he was terrorizing the roads of the Bundesliga, Kompakt's primary rock Reinhard Voigt was feeling so inspired, that he had to dedicate him a track. 'Robson Ponte' was one of the first hits on the young label at that time and since then it's not only being hammered in clubs, but also in the Bayarena, Leverkusen's giant football stadium. It became an evergreen just like artificial turf. While these lines are being written Frankfurt and Cologne guys are celebrating their advancement to the premier league. Adequate to this, the techno heavyweights from Rhein and Main join eachother for the 'Robson Ponte' remix-cup. Despite friendly games they really come to the point in both playing times. Reinhard 'iron foot' Voigt, is highly motivated and takes all the risks and introduces his much dreaded 'blood-straddle'. Foul! Firecrackers fly on the pitch. The public goes off the rails. Frankfurt 's alter ego reacts with sensitivity, But they don't show nerves and counterattack with a brave move. They turn Voigt's original vocal-sample into a freaky bassline. Technique tops muscles. Very Brazilian, indeed... it's a rough but breathtaking match. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Final whistle. (time for the commercials... and to get a fresh beer.)

Artist: TRICKY DISCO/GTO
Title: Speicher 30
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM EX030EP
"On the 30th anniversary of Kompakt's Speicher series, a childhood dream has finally come true. Thanks to a wonderful coincidence and weeks and months of arduous research, we could get the license to release two of the most influential and immortal techno tracks ever on one record. Tricky Disco and GTO are projects both realized by sound artists Michael Wells and Lee Newman. From the early 1990s to the mid-1990s, they came up with splashy tracks under numerous pseudonyms as for example John & Julie, Church of Exstasy or Technohead (exactly, the gabber evergreen track 'I Wanna Be A Hippie' released on Mokum!), until Lee died of cancer in 1995 -- at the height of their career. In 1990, Tricky Disco was released as WAP 007 on the young Warp Label and, together with stylistically-similar approaches of label colleagues like LFO or Sweet Exorcist, they revolutionized the club scene. A new sound was born: the Bleep! There are only a few sounds time could not harm thanks to their simplicity and conciseness. Next to the 303 and the saw-tooth sounds, the Bleep is probably the only and certainly the nicest sound. Bleeps are happiness and lightness. Bleeps are good, they are sweet, little buddies. GTO's 'Pure' is listed in the same ranking. Also released in 1990, it represented the kick into a great future for the (soon) Belgium cult label GoBang! The bass line still moves mountains, even if the obscure vocal samples make you smile today. It is true: Speicher 30 is pure nostalgia and above all, it means love of the still most thrilling music of the world. And it pays homage to one of the most dazzling characters in the world of techno music. Thank you, Lee."

"Hello and welcome to Kompakt's summer holiday program. We asked ourselves, why ist it that even when the sun is shining all day at the beach of Santa Whatsoever everybody is playing dumb pumping stuff instead of just letting it go for a moment in favor of something nice'n'peaceful? Can it be so difficult to relax? What the heck could happen if somebody stops the bass kick for 5 to 8 minutes? We assure you: nothing to be afraid of, really... We felt it's necessary to contribute something non-pumping to this summer 2005. At least something not-so-pumping. Even if our chosen lifeguards are responsible for some of the finest dancefloor rockets around this time they put all effort into creating something not-so-pumping in order to make this 'Speicher' edition a very particular one. With 'Wombat' the Wighnomy Bros deliver their most wicked bassline so far. It wiggles in such a fresh and exhilarating way that it's almost a shame when it makes way for the breakdown. But then this 'Love Pad' drops in, builds up this heavenly tsunami of emotions. You'll certainly feel more than compensated. 'Wombat' continues where 'Wurz & Blosse,' which is probably the most played 'Speicher' track ever, started last summer. Awe! (by the way, wombats are thoroughly likeable Australian marsupials which take about fourteen days to digest one meal. That's what we call relaxed!) Kompakt's king of all taboo-breakers invited his dear friend and band member Fred Heimermann to bring along his guitar in order to do something no one else would ever dare: They recorded an ambient track for 'Speicher!'"

Following The Orb's record sweep with their full-length Okie Dokie It's the Orb On Kompakt, it's only fitting that they've come up with a fitting icing on this colossal cake entitled "God Less America." The Orb provide us yet again with a brilliant platter of contemporary art-techno crowned with sovereign jollity. Paired on the other side, Sweden's The Rice Twins craft fresh, hip, sassy melodies. This is the new anthem of the United Techno Nations.

Oxia is Olivier Raymond born in Grenoble, France, and runs the label Goodlife with Stephane Deschezeaux or The Hacker. Now Olivier participates in the Speicher series, reaching the hearts of Kompakt immediately with this monster-hit "Domino." This track will split your mind -- on the one side it's really dubiously trancey...but in the best way. On the other hand, it's a good example that this sort of techno-music is always welcome at Kompakt, especially when it's made as well as this. For all the rest out there enjoy the very fine super-fat minimal stomper on the A-side.

Artist: SUPERPITCHER/STARDRIVER
Title: Speicher 35
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM EX035EP
"Who do we have here? Superdiver and Starpitcher? Or Pitchdiver and Superstar? Come on now silly, of course it's Superpitcher and Stardiver! A brilliant double comeback on Kompakt Extra. While Aksel Schaufler's last release on Speicher was 'Speicher 9' in 2003, Stardiver we've heard but a peep from in close to 15 years. These facts and numbers are becoming disdainful so let's move on... 'Enzian,' after 'Heroin' and 'Mushrooms,' seamlessly fits within Superpitcher's intoxicating theme-park. Many will be surprised and ask: 'Why? Enzian is but just a small flower'. That is precisely why it has to be explained here: according to Pliny the Elder, Gentian is named after Gentius (180-68 bc), the king of Illyria, is said to have discovered its healing properties. But the border between use and misuse is, as generally known, quickly overstepped. They also say the Gentian Schnaps has magic power...Stardiver is Jörg Burger -- the Modernist's millionth pseudonym. Appropriately the track is called 'Borderline'. That is to say that the borderline-syndrome is a personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder (bpd) is defined within psychiatry, and some other fields, as a disorder characterized primarily by emotional dysregulation, extreme 'black and white' thinking in some areas, and disrupted relationships. The name originated with the idea that individuals exhibiting this type of behavior were on the 'borderline' between neurosis and psychosis. But like we care, as long as such music can come out of it. 'Borderline' is blazing and is chugging like a freshly polished steamship. Ahoy."

Favorite Kompakt tag-teamers Michael Mayer and Reinhard Voigt combine their forces against Swiss Davidovitch. 'Tranparenza' is the first track from Kompakt's two chief-ravers, taking on that good old gallop-techno-beat ala Love Parade '93. And with some divine wit, they bring it right up to 2006. Call it a bellowing proclamation derived from the ancient times come forth from the mouth of the siren. On the other side newcomer Davidovitch releases an enticing and fascinating track with a strange tech-house-beat called "Cellophane" Amidst that oh so well-known chord-driven, techy beat that we all love, he adds intense soundscapes and psychedelic vocal snippets. What an amazing track.

Artist: POOKS, TOM

Catalog #: KOM EX037EP
Tom Pooks is a longstanding nightlife hero in France, arriving on board as a guest on Kompakt vessel Speicher. Tom Pooks relays an adeptness you immediately hear -- his A-side "Docker" cleverly winds around the dancer's legs. Then taking away the bass drum he boils your brain with one hell of a break. "Pablo Assan's" on the B-side is set to hit dance floors blindsided. What starts as a timeless acid spiral guided by a 3/4 beat, turns out to be a volcanic eruption of roaring proportions. If this track wasn't so much fun, it would be absolutely terrifying. Vive la France.

Speicher jumps into the deep end of your late-summer swimming pool. Davidovitch surprises with a trippy, dark 808 opera, pleasantly recalling the early '90s music of Fuse on Plus 8. On the B-side, French newcomer Maxime Dangles makes his debut with "Noemie," which brings back that rocking half-shuffle we've been missing oh-so dearly, driven by a power-bass drift and a striking minimal melody to round this rocker out perfectly.

What does the Swede mean when he says "Wet Summer?" Rainy or sweaty? When you listen to the track you'd rather say the latter. Colorful, varying and in-your-face, almost like Rex The Dog on Ibiza. Tom Pooks, who surprised us on Speicher 37 with his ecstatic neo-acid fireworks, convinces again through and through. With "Life" he proves again that he is currently the master of compelling trailblazer breaks. Whoever sweats twice stays wet for longer.

Techno producer Axel Bartsch delves into a new trippy, mystic techno style that harkens the best of Matthew Jonson. Speicher 41 features tracks that have a solid, reliable groove-fundamental, and spin elegiacally long and quite entertaining stories about thousands of sound-hallucinations, putting the head-tripping dancer under its magic spell. Bartsch's powerful and forceful playing skills give way to extremely beautiful, fractionized moments of intensity and detail.

Here's something dark and dirty from the depths of Russia. Dmitry Sobolev comes from out of nowhere with a shocker to put your brain back on track. He brings back a sound that will make the bottom of your muddy rubber boots melt. This is warehouse raging techno -- something that heralds a time we often forget. "Sticker" brings new meaning to the term filthy-techno. That Russian dog-whistle is set to take things fan-freaking-tastically over the edge. Speicher hits tough with passion and power.

Artist: KÖHNCKE/NERK/DIRK LEYERS, JUSTUS

Catalog #: KOM EX043EP
Behold, a new style is born: darkroom disco! Justus Köhncke's latest track marks a turning point in his creative work. Driven by a massive, cranking bassline and a whipping spoken word sample, "Faults'n'FX" scales new energy levels. On the flip, Dirk Leyers teams up with Nerk who's better known as one half of Berlin's legendary Tok Tok outfit. "Stepshifter" is a merciless, stoic monster track that makes most contemporary minimal records sound shy.

Artist: SUPERPITCHER/BROKE
Title: Speicher 44
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM EX044EP
The new Superpitcher track "Lick The Pipe" enlists the help of Matias Aguayo, who breaks wind full of furious peak-time glory on the mighty slide flute. Welcome to a side of Superpitcher you've never witnessed before. Follow this 8-minute snot-bass-opera where our pied piper Aguayo will lead you to the rave. Bizarre and beautiful. The flipside sees Aguayo team up with co-conspirator Marcus Rossknecht, under the alias Broke. Broke calls for the peak-time lavishness of the harder sorts. Next, these two techno romanticians pull off a convincing move with "Overhat," where bleeding fat beats play with the sexiness and sway of Aguayo's distinctive roll.

Artist: PAAPE/TOM POOKS, JURGEN
Title: Speicher 45
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX045EP
The exceedingly rare and eternally cult Kompakt secret weapon Jürgen Paape meets new French rave-angel, Tom Pooks. With "Take This," Paape seamlessly connects to "Take That," his Kompakt Total 7 smash-hit. Sexy, rocking and naked from the waist down. "Amande Douce" continues Pooks' journey of providing hands-in-the-air hits. He manages to make a loud slick bass-beat explode under a continuously swelling body of sound.

Artist: MOTIIVI:TUNTEMATON
Title: Speicher 46
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX046EP
Motiivi:Tuntematon are the Finnish gentlemen Antti Koivisto, Timo Kaukolampi and Veikka Erkola. One was a member of Op:l Bastards, others are the same part of the Uusi Fantasia. The A-side is big-room rockno, electro-house slam-dance with a melancholic undertone. "Mankind Failed" is truly the most exaggerated music piece of all time: the apocalypse, beat after beat lyrically narrated.

Artist: PAAPE, JURGEN
Title: Speicher 47
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX047EP
Speicher 47 presents Jürgen Paape back in the ring with his gloves off. "Fruity Loops 1" marches heartily straight ahead as if there's no tomorrow: envision a semi-truck loaded with nuclear waste bouncing down the techno highway. Barren fat bass rebounds against a classic, wild-pitch-bolero that can only recall the heyday of DJ Pierre. The B-side is veiled in a voluptuous camo net of harmonious grandeur, flowing with a similar straightforwardness to its predecessor. But this companion differs, preferring to dwell in the wee hours, when a dance floor makes all too much sense.

Artist: STARDIVER/SUPERPITCHER
Title: Speicher 48
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX048EP
Here comes techno's primary rocker Jörg Burger. This round, he touches down as Stardiver and connects the early days of this fabled project when it launched somewhere back in 1992, when trance wasn't a swear word. "Another Moment Of Silence" is a harmoniously accentuated earworm costumed in posh Chanel, built around a thrill-seeking hookline that is tightly wound around a ripened axle of bass. On the flipside comes his dear colleague Superpitcher with a 13-minute opera called "Superjam," that rolls on and on and on (and on). 120 elements that never wear out. Longer is just better, done right.

Artist: SOG
Title: Speicher 49
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX049EP
Speicher 49 is scientifically-correct hypnosis with a coolness factor of 10. Music full of dignity. The message comes out of the right mixture of listening and not listening, and the music leaves a lot of room for fantasy. Everything is there, you just have to recognize it. Variety is the enemy of real minimal! Real beauty is timeless.

Artist: OXIA/INTUS
Title: Speicher 50
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX050EP
The Speicher 12" series reaches its golden years! With "Not Sure" Olivier "Oxia" Raymond succeeds in perfecting a delicate balancing act, sticking to his general hit-making formula that goes that extra mile. It's the pivotal 50 hymn: a Speicher jubilee. An old friend from Bavaria named Intus contributes, kicking vodka-techno beats ingeniously out of tune. A howling guitar lurches us into the seventh sky of spiritual bliss. Frenzy is the new clarity.

Artist: TONI RIOS
Title: Speicher 51
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX051EP
Toni Rios is not from Cologne. He lives in Frankfurt and he's from a Spanish provenance, which is audible in his music. Frankfurt's thump meets Iberian grooviness. Toni Rios is resident DJ at Sven Väth's Cocoon Club. Apart from that, his DJ skills and kindliness are acknowledged worldwide. Toni's tracks fit perfectly on Kompakt Extra because they're quite kicking at the bottom end. And they're exciting in the high range, too. If you put bottom end and high range together, you'll get something very complete and captivating. Strong, beautifully crafted techno for 2007.

Artist: PERC & FRACTAL
Title: Speicher 52
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX052EP
With Speicher 52, the brutish returns to the clubs. Perc is well known for being a close relative of James Holden's Border Community. Metaphorically spoken, we could say that he's Holden's vile cousin. "Up," his first cooperation with Fractal, is based on a reckless synth line that seems to tweak higher and higher over its 7.5 minutes course. The flipside is in compliance to numerous requests from the C.I.A. to develop an extended torture tool. Watch your ears, this is an awesome acoustic thumbscrew.

Sog puts his foot down on the always-the-same magic. Music that knows everything, but expects nothing, music that promises nothing but always keeps its word. Sog is the last loop before you enter paradise.

Kuhglocken. Bergkristalle. Alpendisko. Schweiztechno.

Artist: BORATTO/SCSI-9, GUI
Title: Speicher 55
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX055EP
This is a great double header for Speicher. World class star Gui Boratto sets off his signature Brazilian groove with minimal groovy elements. Then a melodic hookline flies over the beat and whisks you away. On the other side is Anton Kubikov and Maxim Miljutenko aka SCSI 9. "Another Day Acid" is not an acid track, but arguably one of SCSI 9's best techno tracks to date. Groove, structure and beat combine with a high emo-factor. On point.

Artist: TAHERNIA, NAVID
Title: Speicher 56
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX056EP
After years of being a laid-back and relaxed ex-minimal trance preacher, Navid Tahernia, also a Kompakt employee, is back on the musical scene. And back really means back, 'cause this is purest old school. "Mylikestyle" is an homage to the good old days when the 909 was still innocent and the real 303 was a mystic preacher of sublime secret messages, hidden in never-ending trance sequences. Full-fat raw, brilliant, monophunky, stompin' culture.

Artist: PERC/TOM POOKS & ST. THOMAS
Title: Speicher 57
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX057EP
After Perc & Fractal's "Up," that crazy tune with the endlessly rising peep tone, their new track "Headphone Heart" is another monster. It's not as hysterical as "Up," but features an incredible flute section, instead. Pure hobbit techno! The other track belongs to Tom Pooks & St. Thomas, and "Remember" is Pooks' most subtle and sexy work to date.

Artist: STEADYCAM/NIGHTGUY
Title: Speicher 58
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX058EP
Next to Gui Boratto and Hug, Steadycam counts among the most prolific breedings in Kompakt's bootcamp, K2. This resourceful Swedish youngster keeps dropping one polka techno bomb after the other. "Get Up On There" is a mean little stinker that only reveals its devastating powers when played out in full. Nightguy is a new guy and presents "Pretty Face," a subtle blend of Carl Craig-y deepness, an overall xtc vibe and the perfect timing.

Artist: MAXIME DANGLES
Title: Speicher 59
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: KOM EX059EP
Maxime Dangles handles Speicher 59 with aplomb. "Tulipa" is nothing short of an anthem. Slightly reminiscent of Joey Beltram's golden times, this is simply one of the best techno tracks you've heard in years. The same counts for "Firewire," a dead-serious, darkish beast of a track that takes things down to a more mental atmosphere. Maxime Dangles single-handedly restores your faith in proper TECHNO. Enjoy the collective freak-out.

Artist: RIOS/PAN/TONE, TONI
Title: Speicher 60
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM EX060EP
This is the 60th edition in Kompakt's famous Speicher series. The A-side belongs to Toni Rios, who delivers a nicely sexed-up tech-house tune that reminds of Chicago house, Akufen and Marc Kinchen all at once. Pan/Tone is an old friend of Kompakt's and many liters of spirits have been consumed while contemplating a release on the label. Now that he's moving to Berlin, he leaves behind a cool track appropriately entitled, "Hair Of The Dog."

Artist: BARTZ, RICHARD
Title: Speicher 61
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM EX061EP
The legendary Richard Bartz presents a strong offering for Speicher 61. "Diamond Girl" takes you on a joyride through Schwabing, Munich's famous nightlife and shopping district. On the flipside, he takes you to the dirtier side of town. "All Night Girl" represents everything he stands for: dark, wild and abysmal techno with a slight psychedelic edge to it. Richie knows what he's doing. He's a damn good producer.

Artist: MOTOR/ALEX MILLAN & LORENT AIR
Title: Speicher 62
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM EX062EP
The 62nd edition of the Speicher series is dedicated to the more abysmal side of techno. NYC's Motor drop an ice-cold, totally mental killer track. Slick, modern and intense. Montpellier's Alex Millan & Lorent Air present "Ironik," which at first, sounds like a generic post-Border Community trancer, but that's deceiving -- when the otherworldly vocals kick in, the glam level increases considerably. Think something between The MFA's "The Difference It Makes" and Oxia's "Domino" and you get the picture.

Artist: DANZCA AKA MAXIME DANGLES & PAUL NAZCA
Title: Speicher 63
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM EX063EP
Speicher returns to form for 2009. Feeling the urge to display a sweetened vulgarity for fully-formed techno -- Kompakt's young starlet Maxime Dangles teams up with Paul Nazca for this monstrous release. "Dark Neptune" is a bass-squelching power-rocker -- thoroughly delivering all peaks and no drifts. "Aquarel" is a more melodic affair, but pulls out all the right punches with a tangible, house-like quality. Definitely a classic approach that meets the Speicher seal of approval.

Artist: WIGHNOMY BROS/MAXIME DANGLES
Title: Speicher 64
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: KOM EX064EP
Welcome to the 64th Speicher crusade. A lot of things have changed since its foundation in 2002, but the series' focus on highly-inspired peak-time music remains unbroken. Wighnomy Bros present "Exvola Stupp," which radiates their signature blend of understatement and insanity. It's a heavily percussive affair that will appeal to all you bongo-house lovers out there. Maxime Dangles' track is a real slammer with dirty Chicago-style snares, eerie organ rides and a recognizable vocal hook that goes "shiiiieeet," or something similar. Stunning.

Artist: OXTONGUE
Title: Delight
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM POP001EP
"Summer of love. Summer of Pop. And if climatic catastrophe means that in Germany, the sun is shining brightly from February through June, well... then let's talk about it again. Oxtongue is Gian Luca Palotta from Piemont in Italy. With his debut feature Delight -- already released on the Traum label half a year ago -- he has captured some of the Italian ars vivendi on to vinyl. As if it was best, pressed barolo. And whoever thinks that vocoder vocals are out will definitely change his mind. Now Kompakt, with its marked preference for Pop has decided to give this track it's own platform. This 12" features remixes by Voigt & Voigt (Wolfgang and Reinhard, that is) and the very groovy Benjamin Diamond. Furthermore this is the very first release on a new Kompakt sidekick, aptly named Kompakt Pop. So, put this on your record player and serve some pasta with truffles."

Artist: TOCOTRONIC
Title: Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen
Label: KOMPAKT (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $8.00
Catalog #: KOM POP002CD
Tocotronic -- Hamburg, Germany's most coveted pop/rock quartet have paved a road in rock music unlike any band on the planet. Now, for the first time, Tocotronic will be released on Kompakt Pop as the remix single to their new album's title track "Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen." Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt together with Superpitcher have metamorphosized this mighty song for the dance floor -- an intoxicating piece of techno music and potentially the most definitive release for Kompakt Pop to date. Since their inception in 1993, Tocotronic have crafted lyrical and aural metaphors, which consist of fantasy, fairy tales, political subjects and simple words combined with an ever-evolving concoction of pop and indie-rock. Superpitcher's extraordinary talent for arrangement and melody creation alongside Wasserman's legendary vision for creating state-of-the-art dance music make for a perfectly stunning matrimony. "Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen" moves into a realm beyond the remix, sounding as if the band and Wasserman/Superpitcher had forged this song together in the studio.
