Artist: CHLOE
Title: Live At Robert Johnson
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $29.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 001CD
This is the first volume in a 4-part CD compilation series celebrating the 10th anniversary of Frankfurt's Robert Johnson club. Limited to an exclusive 2,000 copies, Live At Robert Johnson comes in a fold-out "art book" package, which allows fans to collect the series CDs separately and place them all within a 12"-sized booklet to create a final art piece that brings the release together in a unique sonic and visual way, further showcasing the club's strong affinity to contemporary art. Long-time resident Chloé is one of France's biggest DJs, who ignites this package and impeccably brings forward the essence of Robert Johnson's open-ended musical scope on this absolutely modern DJ mix that ranges from the bizarre beauty of DJ Koze, SIS's summer crasher "Orgsa," the floor-raising ruckus of Samim & Michal to Larry Heard's house classic "Spinal Tap." Other artists include: Gudrun Gut, Kalabrese, Shinedoe, Steve Angello, Partial Arts, Samim & Michal, Vincenzo, Daso & Pawas, Heiko Mso, Malte, Plein Soleil, Trulz & Robin, Baseman, Homebase, Seventeen Evergreen and Joakim.

Artist: PRINS THOMAS
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 2
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 002CD
This is the second volume in a 4-part CD compilation series celebrating the 10th anniversary of Frankfurt's Robert Johnson club. Volume 2 has been selected and mixed by one of Norway's best: Full Pupp label head, DJ/producer, and versatile disco Viking, Prins Thomas. In the studio, Thomas sprinkles everything from the Junior Boys and Studio through to Justus Köhncke and techno classics on R&S Records with his lively drum-bass-organ magic. As a DJ, he works his sets from front to back, from loud to quiet, and from one genre to the next through all various shades of grey in between. This is probably the only CD in the whole world on which Ricardo Villalobos dances to "Afro Punk Reggae Dub" by Steel An' Skin with his house band Cos/Mes, where a Playhouse classic from Roman Flügel performs an Acid Test in the "Gallery Oslo" by Kåre & The Cavemen, where synth-rock by Trans Am glows like a fixed star, and where Bjørn Torske makes it clear who was the first to polish the Norwegian disco ball (the Idjut Boys claim this title for England). Also on this mix Closer Musik evokes wistfulness and Sébastien Tellier argues about beard lengths with DJ Harvey of Map Of Africa. Twenty-seven breathtaking gems, some of them affectionately edited by Prins, but always with two hands, a Urei mixing desk, two CD players and turntables, the mischievous Korg Kaoss Pad as well as an in/out insulator, and mixed with that unwavering killer DJ instinct of his. And of course, everything is done live in one take so as to evoke the feeling of a Viking longboat on a stormy sea. Other artists include: Arpadys, Cage & Aviary, Capracara, Rub N Tug, Trans Am, Babytalk, Frankie Valentine, Isoul8, Low Motion Disco, Still Going, James Yuill, Dogs Of War, Anarchic System, Argy & The Mole, Martin Circus, Opolopo, Domu, Mathew Jonson, Samos, and Lindstrøm.

Artist: PLEIN SOLEIL
Title: Casus Belli
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 002EP
This is the first EP from Germany's Live At Robert Johnson label. "Casus Belli" was taken from the Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 1 compilation that was mixed and compiled by long-time resident DJ Chloé, who is also one-half of Plein Soleil, in collaboration with Krikor. The upcoming house label Brontosaurus Records lay their hands on "Casus Belli" and bring out an effective deep house remix.

Artist: SMAGGHE, IVAN
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 3
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 003CD
This is the third volume in a 4-part CD compilation series celebrating the 10th anniversary of Frankfurt's Robert Johnson club. Volume 3 has been selected and mixed by Frenchman Ivan Smagghe. After Chloé's coy and sensible entry, and Prins Thomas' Norwegian diskomiks attack, Smagghe continues his reputation as a DJ with impeccable taste, an impressive record collection, and a sense for avant-garde sounds old and new. He has been part of acts such as Black Strobe, Volga Select, Kill The DJ, It's A Fine Line with Tim Paris and La Horse with Danton Eeprom. As a regular guest DJ at club nights and loft parties across the globe, you won't find any run-of-the-mill tracks here, latest crazes or hyped patterns, but quite a personal slice of Ivan Smagghe and what he likes to do in a club. His former project Black Strobe once described itself as the "dark side of disco, frozen Balearic, gay biker-house, boogie-trance, heavy electronica and soft-goth," which is quite an adept description of the music here. Postmodern rockabilly techno could be another one. You will find a Kruton remix next to the Wighnomy Bros., Swiss Nu-Yoricadiscotheque-music from In Flagranti, Seymour Bits and Röyskopp, all handled with care and mixed with an ear for the right action. Even the very last record of a DJ night is considered in the mix. After a brief pause and a breezy moment, Rheingold's new wave classic "Dreiklangsdimensionen" dulcifies your exit. Other artists include: Gary Beck, Two Banks Of Four, Eddie Zarook & Casio Casino, Entertainment, Holy Fuck, It's A Fine Line, Ryan Davis, Battant, Marc Houle, Loin Brothers, Mock & Toof, and Dark Day.

Artist: PAGLIARA, MASSIMILIANO
Title: Toxic Love
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 003EP
Live At Robert Johnson proudly presents Italian transplant to Berlin Massimiliano Pagliara. Toxic Love further cements his love for old synths, gentle drum-machines and pop textures. These four songs capture broken-hearted, late-night love sickness and futuristic disco fantasies. Featuring the microphone skills of Molly Nilsson and Jules Etienne, this stuff wouldn't sound out of place during a Chromatics' concert or under a mirrorball near you. He's Italian and he's disco, whether this makes it Italo disco is up to you.

Artist: HAMMANN & GERD JANSON, THOMAS
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 4
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 004CD
This is the fourth volume in a 4-part CD compilation series celebrating the 10th anniversary of Frankfurt's Robert Johnson club. Thomas Hammann and Gerd Janson are sophisticated and knowledgeable jacks of many trades -- one is a devoted record shopkeeper, the other a label operator and music journalist; both are marvelous DJs that have a reputation for quality. True believers, idealistic activists and discreet ambassadors of the cause, they have run Robert Johnson's renowned Liquid Night in Offenbach for 9 years now: They are men of conviction. They are men who know how house truly works, how it sounds best, what house can evoke and most of all, what you need to evoke that. They are house, they care for it and they share it. The magic of their joint efforts not only unites them both; it also unites them with their Liquid customers, the dancers right there at Robert Johnson. It's a residency and club forum other DJs would sell their grandma for, and it attracts a horde that undergoes pilgrimages to see it in full bloom. Liquid is a club night that works because it's made for a blended family -- anyone and everyone who wants to join in. And this is its soundtrack. A sound that builds bridges from yesterday to today and from the United States to Europe and back again. A sound that pays homage to disco's legacy and its revenge, flirts with techno right across the dancefloor, is self-assured, holds its head up high, is humble, graceful and lofty at the same time, zigzags, flows, is demanding and giving, is game for everything, is reactionary and progressive, is vintage and modern, gives and takes, moves and stops, seems to be light, dark and suspicious, is morning after and night before, sings and swings, loves and wants to be loved, is really and truly and beautiful. Artists include: Juicy Fruit, DJ Du Jour, Lontano, Fresh Tunes#2, Dr. Nobody, Stephan G & The Persuader, Azymuth, Global Communication, Chez Damier, JohnNick Presents Red Hook Dreams, Kenny Dope, Soundstream, DJ Duke, Radio Slave, DNTEL, and Superpitcher.

Title: Never Go With A Hippie To A Second Location
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 004EP
Vinyl addicts and DJ robots perk up your ears! Live At Robert Johnson announces the vinyl extraction of Ivan Smagghe's Live At Robert Johnson Compilation Vol. 3. Artist: FLUGEL, ROMAN
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 5
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 005CD
Starting the next round of Robert Johnson's extolled mix and limited box set series is none other than Alter Ego's precious Roman Flügel. Also known as Soylent Green, Eight Miles High, Roman IV and under a dozen other pseudonyms, Flügel has done it all (insert electronic music genre here) -- except for a mix CD. Honing his craft as a producer with an idiosyncratic signature, Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 5 sheds some light on his skills as a serious selector and daring disc jockey. A combination that comes once in a blue moon, Roman Flügel manages to be fascinating and relevant in both. The proof thereof lies before your face. Whether his beeps, bleeps and clonks or his more contemplative moments are to your taste, the fifth volume for the beloved little harbor at the banks of the river Main, shares the one as well as the other. Here you will find long-lost jack trax moments with Armando, earnest new school techno with Ben Klock, Ratsnake's quirkiness, a great love break in the shape of Idioma's "Landscapes" as well as some vintage and future Flügel (Soylent Green plus two exclusive, vital and refreshingly new tracks for Live At Robert Johnson) himself. A key player and starter in the resident DJ team, he handles this ride as well as he does on any given night at RJ. Pleasing directly without using the obvious and celebrating a certain uncertain murky ambiguity without being indefinite, Roman established a distinguishable and delightful signature in his DJ sets. Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 5 is a true school interpretation of acid house music at its best. Other artists include: Freund Der Familie, Itzone, Thomos, Molex, Ink And Needle, Nail, Foreverreaction, Maetrik, and Soulphiction.

Artist: ARTO MWAMBE
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 6
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 006CD
Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 6 comes straight from Arto Mwambé's mind and out of their mixing desk guts. Instead of grabbing a bunch of records and gluing them together (i.e. the classic DJ mix CD), the dynamic duo that is melody boy Phillip Lauer and rhythm doctor Christian Beißwenger decided to do exactly that which sets them apart from most of their peers: to play live (as in "live" and not as in pressing the space bar on a laptop). They simulated an hour in front of the club's audience and went with it. The classic Roland drum machine sound aesthetic walks hand-in-hand with prominent bass lines, playful synthesizer sounds, sweet melodies, joyful piano finger exercises and even a hidden stripe of acid here and there. All these uplifting elements take turns like good players in tennis doubles and are graced with that much-needed and often dearly-missed element of surprise, spontaneity and wit. In the same way as tracks like "Love Lifted" or "Greatest Love" flirted with the past, present and future of house, disco and leftfield sounds in their original form on Arto Mwambe's usual home base -- the revered and passionate vinyl-only label Brontosaurus -- the cleverly altered live versions bewitch their old and new audience once again. Plus, you will meet some new next best friends as well. Arto Mwambé prove that it is their own very special sound signature that makes you fall in love with them.

Artist: FLUGEL, ROMAN
Title: Brian Le Bon/N.M.I.S.M.D.
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 006EP
Live At Robert Johnson presents a 12" by Roman Flügel -- and what a bass-heavy beauty he created! "N.M.I.S.M.D." highlights his use of 808 electrical circuitry in combination with some eccentric vocal bits and irresistible grooves that make even strange bodies move. "Brian Le Bon" leaves such funky analogies behind and aims at the melancholic and epic side of things. This is what the Joy Division dance orchestra would have sounded like.

Artist: ATA
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 7
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 007CD
Volume 7 of the esteemed and idiosyncratic series of Robert Johnson club-affiliated mixes finally lies in the hands of club co-founder Ata. Never afraid to be different, Ata's first commercially-available so-called mix doesn't adhere rigidly to the genre's rules. Designed and composed like a good old cassette tape for friends and lovers and rather connected than mixed, Ata presents 12 tracks and songs that are close to him and hopefully soon to your heart. Unconnected to any urge to be current or hip to the next month's flavor, you will get Italo staples like "Nonline" by I.M.S., capricious cuts like Marsico's "Funk Sumatra" and romantic rockets that will stay forever in your mind, for example, Endgames' "First, Last For Everything." Ata's selection ebbs and flows, puts the emphasis on cutting rather than blending, makes use of some little special effects stunts here and there and most of all, it spreads that certain aural pleasure only the crackling noise of vinyl can give you. As most tracks have been recorded from the actual platters out of Ata's record box, it is as personal and unpolished as it can get. Some of these tracks have been with Ata throughout his DJ career, others have only been discoveries of the last few years, but as distinguished as they might appear, all of them have one thing in common: like asteroids, they are little worlds of their own, sonically and lyrically. So, you won't have to deal with any fillers, unnecessary bridges or tracks, whose sole purpose it is to be "heard in the mix." These songs work as much together as they do on their own, each and every one telling a juicy story -- stories that are as important for the history of Robert Johnson as they are for Ata's DJ heritage: stories of pop music, mirror balls, new and old romantics, of the future and the past. Sometimes a mix is just a mix. This one ain't. Other artists include: Ellison Chase, David Keaton, Quando Quango, Jo Squillo Eletrix, Zwischenfall, Information Society, Xymox, Grauzone and Rah Band.

Title: Duster FC
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 007EP

Artist: PAGLIARA, MASSIMILIANO
Title: Focus For Infinity
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 008CD
Massimiliano Pagliara moved from Lecce to Milan to pursue a dream, approaching club culture from an academic angle, which led to a diploma in theater-dance and choreography. And then Milan's alternative club scene gave him even more hints of what music was out there, seemingly waiting to be morphed into his very own vision of sound. After he moved to Berlin, this urge became stronger, and soon dancing in an academic context was just not enough, and dancing in legendary clubs like Ostgut took over, until he felt ready and willing to join in the buzz as a DJ. And not before long, Massimiliano Pagliara was the one who got the same crowds moving he formerly was an enthusiastic part of, with knowledgeable selections touching a plethora of bases from disco and house origins, spiked with a good dose of the unexpected, leftfield, obscure and overall utmost grooviness. All of this is delivered with his very own super-charming demeanor, styled with both grace and conviction, coming on like the sweet missionary of nocturnal bliss. And as much as he loves playing the music he loves, producing the music he loves was the obvious next step to take. Having developed an obsession with analog synth sounds, Pagliara gathered vintage equipment and holed up in his studio to work on producing the music he always wanted to produce. And the results were so convincing that they led Daniel Wang to release his debut single on his legendary Balihu imprint. Since then he has spread his lovely melodies and infectious grooves to mainstays like Rush Hour Recordings, Meakusma, Needwant and eventually the seminal club and label haven, Robert Johnson. And thus, Focus For Infinity came to life, Massimiliano Pagliara's testament to his own inspirations and preferences, transferred into a superb voyage of disco and house transcendentalism that owes as much to electronic pioneers like Patrick Cowley as it does to the legacy of the defining days of Italo disco, synth-pop and Chicago house. But however he may have put his Prophet 5, Korgs and Rolands into action, this album is clearly not clinging to paying tributes. It aims to sing its own song, and dance to its own rhythm. Judging from his acclaimed achievements, it may come as no surprise that this album sounds diverse and personal and is executed with dedication and grandezza.

Artist: IDEAL
Title: Schöne Frau mit Geld (Losoul Versions)
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 008EP
Who wouldn't want to be kept by a beautiful rich woman? In 1982, the German new wave quartet Ideal wrote a song about it. Twenty-eight years later, one of Germany's finest producers decided to do a fresh interpretation of the song. Losoul presents two mixes (including a dub version, for the faint of heart) that hone the hook and tag line of the original for maximum dancefloor and repeated listening pleasure.

Artist: DIXON
Title: Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 8
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 009CD
This is the eighth -- and final -- volume in the Live At Robert Johnson CD series. From here on in will only be compilations unchained and free of the rules that tempo, blending and arrangements dictate. Furthermore, it is Dixon's guaranteed last effort on the subject matter. The Innervisions' partner and one of the finest DJs Berlin has ever had to offer, simply outgrew the underlying system: the time restriction (70+ minutes are just not enough), the time gaps (due to the licensing and manufacturing nature of the game, it is almost impossible to be really current or represent the "flavor of the month," if you wish) and last but not least, the interest it can generate nowadays. But as with all things Dixon one thing is for sure: attention. Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 8 is different. Not only does it highlights Dixon's relationship with the club (a resident DJ there from day one), but also his special abilities to build a night. As with all true-born DJs, he has little difficulty in playing from dusk till dawn and through all the highs and lows on his own. Blessed with such stamina, he also knows that haste makes waste and the complete impossibility of condensing all of that to fit it onto one compact disc. So what you will experience here is the very starting point of such an excursion. Postponing the appearance of something like a kick drum for almost 30 minutes, one is led through songs that draw their inspirations from kosmische musik, ambient, and Kraut pop from various sources (Hauschka, P.Eladan, Dominique, Barnt) that slowly fade into Agoria and the likes of Axel Boman and the fascinating Cologne Tape before picking up speed with Mark E, Roman Flügel and the climax that is Âme's Osunlade remix with Todd Terje's spellbinding "Snooze 4 Love" on its heels. Peppered with the notorious Dixon edits and his surgery here and there, Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 8 might sadly not be the mix CD's lonely savior, but it is definitely a testament to the fact that sometimes a little bit more effort makes all the difference. Other artists include: Ursula Bogner, Hatikvah, Kenton Slash Daemon, Magazine, Scalde and Bruno Gauthier.

Artist: LAUER
Title: H.R. Boss/Banned
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 009EP
The power of Lauer is indisputable. Blessed with the uncanny ability to make hooks that would make Bone Thugs-N-Harmony jealous in their heyday, Phillip Lauer is the melody man. This tour de force comes in two parts on the beloved Live At Robert Johnson label. "H.R. Boss" is New Romantic-Italo-not-Italowave that puts love on top of love. Feels like Delta NRG's filthy little brother. Delectable!

Artist: B.H.F.V
Title: ET 01-06
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 010EP
B.H.F.V is the collaborative effort of Arto Mwambe's CB Funk and the Live At Robert Johnson label manager Oliver Hafenbauer. Originating from a cross-pollination of graffiti, train stations, red light districts and Frankfurt's club music roots, "ET 01" and "ET 06" feature blue-eyed electro-funk with sharp snares, jeep-boomin' bass and haunting melody lines. Retro-fascists beware! This ain't a historically-correct or nerdy carbon copy, but a blast from the future's past. Fresh as champagne morning dew.

Title: Vinyl Extraction - Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 7
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 011EP
Ata's volume of the Robert Johnson mix CD series wouldn't be complete with out a 12". Here you get two of the most extraordinary songs and mysterious corkers of his outstanding compilation. Ata picked Grauzone's "Raum" and Zwischenfall's "Flucht" for this special plate. As this wouldn't be a treat in itself already, Ata extended the pop arrangement of "Raum" into an almost 8-minute-long powerful ballroom blitz edit for all you new wavers and old romantics.

Title: 77 Reasons
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 015EP
Ramona welcomes a new name to her ever-growing happy family. In fact, it's actually an old band member. Christian Beisswenger aka CB Funk aka one-half of Arto Mwambe debuts as The Citizen's Band with some novel sounds on risky grounds. In love with details, fragile sounds, little tricks and with a fine ear for the action, "West 42nd" delves into deep, bleepy house. "77 Reasons," however, plays around with a memorable little melody, a skanking lead and some boom sonics.

Artist: DUNBAR, MAXMILLION
Title: Polo (Versions)
Label: LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJC 016EP
Maxmillion Dunbar hangs out in the vague territory between slow-motion house with a hip-hop feeling or dubby and dubious music. "Polo" has cautiously been modified, fine-tuned and extended for its label home. The only kid able to throw down the remix gauntlet is Phillip Lauer (Arto Mwambe, Brontosaurus, etc.), who turns "Polo" into one of his trademark, sluggish bass line-barrage tracks with falsetto synths and sharp snares. Get your vogue brogue out.

Price: $37.50
Catalog #: PLAYRJCLTD 003
This is the eighth -- and final -- volume in the Live At Robert Johnson CD series, available in a limited edition collector's box (strictly limited to 500 copies only), with three placeholders for Live At Robert Johnson Vol. 5, 6 & 7.
