Introducing Light & Sound
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$16.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 026CD
"Monotone sounds and colours do not have any variations or shades according to definition, so it must have been with more than a little irony that Luciano and Pier Bucci conjured up the name Monne Automne. Their debut album
Introducing Light and Sound
is quite simply a revelation. There is beauty here, there is humour, there is also a sense of timelessness echoing through the intricate soundscapes they create. Fragmented rhythms jar into infinity interlinking with delicate melodies to create the perfect blend of head and heart... fire and water. Each of the ten tracks offers a new twist on their trademark electro Latino sound. From the sombre tones of 'Automne' to the delirious rush of 'Teco,' from the unquestioning belief of 'El Salvador' (appearing here in it's original form after last year's excellent remix pack) to the downright freakiness of 'Too Late'."

"Debut of Monne Automne -- the new project by the men of the moment Luciano, Argenis Brito (Gonzalo Martinez / Sieg Ueber Die Sonne) and Pier Bucci. The three Chilean top musicians and producers are now spread to Geneva, Berlin and Santiago de Chile and present us one of the most thrilling remix-packages of this summer. Find the original 'El Salvador' (to be release this fall on the forthcoming album on Lo-fi Stereo) re-arranged and re-constructed by Pier Bucci & Luciano himself to an ultra-cool longbuilding slammer -- our anthem for this summer. Star*dub tweeks the knobs to a crazy-cool acid-house DJ-tool where Ricardo takes it down to his typical tripped out crazy Villalobos style. Longbuilding, pure and abstract. So there should be one for each of you... Clubheads, tripped out DJs and cool minimal acid-lovers going where labels like Perlon and Playhouse go at the moment too."

Ricardo Villalobos' breaking '808 the Bassqueen' a favourite of DJs like Sven Vath, Michael Mayer, Swayzak And Steve Bug combining deephouse and techno in a very special way... Some people even say this is Ricardo's best recording ever. On the flipside you find Steve Bug's 'Clever & Smart' project with the hypnotic and kicking 'Flitadelic' that rocks floors perfectly somewhere between house and minimal Cologne-styled techno. All in all this classic re-press is one of best releases of German tech-house by two of the best DJs & producers around."

Catalog #:
LOFI 029EP
"Hot on the heels of the Monne Automne remixes and Bassqueen reissue, LoFi serves up another slice of dancefloor pressure.
Nowhere Left To Run
marks the return of Further... (Stardub & Neville Attree) together with a special version of their original underground hit stone cold remixed by Richard Davis. The 'Secret Destination' mix is a long, slow burning affair that pays homage to the duos old skool influences -- acidic basslines, filtered vocal fx, driving beats and sweeping electro samples combine to produce a really classy club tool guaranteed to seduce even the most discerning crowd... For all you DBX-fans out there."

LOFI 030EP
"With a combination of red letter recordings and thunderous live shows, Gregory Shiff has steadily been working his way into the world's electronic consciousness. Described as
'New York City's master of all things tech and house...'
(
XL8R
), he has solidly earned his spot among the USA's new elite producers, releasing a wide range of critically acclaimed music from deep techno on the persona imprint to tech house tracks on the Bedrock label. Side a features loopf a really sublime piece of melodic techno that combines searing, electrified rhythms and old school riffs with a precision that takes us back to the heyday of Detroit techno when Model 500 and Kevin Saunderson reigned supreme. Urgent, uplifting and with a timeless quality."

Format:

Price:

Catalog #:
LOFI 031EP
"To put it bluntly... it's a shameless party tune and it fuqin' rocks! The arrangement is really spontaneous 'off the wall' stuff -- especially the extended breakdown and the combination of bassline, electro breaks and retro synth riffs proves that if you get the formula right and preserve the vibe you don't need to overload a track with ear candy. The vocal samples also sit perfectly in the groove as Jochen reflects on the complex nature of human relationships 'I don't need you...but I fuq u'. On the flipside, further return from the vaults with a wild pitch style version excursion. While the original is more 'Jump Up' this alternative mix is altogether darker with an underlying tension that is eventually exploded by a relentless, machine gun snare pattern and some nice pressure drops. Dadableep can be regularly found rockin' the Frankfurt underground while Joe Callero is also a resident at the monthly Lofi stereo soundclash at the Cocoon Club."

Title:
Oftalmic/Tanto Quanto
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 032EP
"Two slabs of sublime 'soulful minimalism' from a totally unexpected source, but I suppose that's the beauty of this kind of music and just goes to enhance its global appeal. Renato has been sending us 'small frisbees from Sardinia' (as he puts it), for the last few months, leaving us with the difficult task of deciding which to release first -- a nice problem to have. First up -- 'Tanto Quanto' taps right into the subconscious, creating a surreal soundscape that's punctuated with fractured Latin rhythms and quirky laptopped sounds in a slight Monne Automne style. Distant filtered chords and a thumping kick hold the track together as the arrangement drifts through several different moods. It's a fantastic track in it's own right but works equally well as a mixing tool. 'Oftalmic' on the other hand is reminiscent of earlier, soulful Underground Resistance or Global Communication releases. Sparse, jerky rhythms and hesitant melodies slowly gel together, building over a full 8 minutes to arousing climax complete with pounding bass and rocking percussion."

NEONGRAU
Title:
Neongrau EP
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 033EP
"Inspired by the early works of electronic music pioneers such as the Normal, Fad Gadget, Gary Numan and Soft Cell...Neongrau (2004+ compatible) delivers the ideal soundtrack for urban catwalks and cult b-movies. With a respectful nod to the past and a wary eye on the phuture, Neongrau sways to an ice cool, minority groove. While in the cut-up tradition of William Burroughs and in line with the nightmarish visions of David Cronenborg's
Videodrome
-- both music and lyrics are the result of a dangerous flirtation with technology. Intent on fucking up the grey masses by appropriating text from the daily deluge of spam-mail and by lovingly dissecting the rotten heart of daytime talk shows, neongrau combines 'ultra exotic old school sounds' with biting sarcasm -- responding with venom to the banal, paranoia inducing marketing slogans and empty headed drivel that creep unnoticed into our everyday lives via television and the internet. The timeless electro pop on offer here is complimented perfectly by a peak time compatible patrick pulsinger mix of hi-level slacker (+), who skilfully manipulates the downbeat original into a dark, thumping electro-house anthem. Hi-level trash-glam for hi-level indi(e)viduals."

Electric Soul
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 034EP
"Taking time off from label and remix duties, Further aka Neville Attree & Stardub (C-Rock) finally release the long-awaited follow up to last year's booty-shakers 'Nowhere Left to Run' and the Richard Davis rethink of 'Stone Cold.' The pair have a growing rep for producing irresistible, slow burning grooves and while the two contrasting tracks on offer here may take some by surprise, they certainly won't disappoint.
Electric Soul
is a raw, dark, genre defying slice of dancefloor mayhem packed full of bleeps and breaks, culminating in a monster breakdown that really tore the roof off at last summer's c/o pop festival in Cologne. 'Stay With Me,' on the other hand, returns to more familiar territory with a throbbing electro bassline set against a sprawling minimal canvas. Tinged with melancholy and old school euphoria -- it's a loved-up tale of robot love that carries you back into the light."

Haluzengenic
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 035EP
"It's safe to say that the debut release from Berlin based DJ Eddie Zarook and Heidelberg's Casio Casino (aka Steffen Neuert of Bergheim 34 fame) is an absolute stomper. What we have here are two finely crafted tunes that seduce the dance floor in totally different ways. Both contain perfectly structured arrangements that creep up on you with the stealth of a ninja, making them a real pleasure to mix with. However what's actually occurring between the minimal beats is deceptively complex -- the lavish sounds and perfectly separated frequencies let you know you're in the presence of someone who 'knows their stuff'. In the case of hallucinogenic, long, patient grooves followed by some fantastically understated 'sonic tweaking' give the track a real kick without ever losing that empty, laid back vibe. The cut up vocal loops also create a lush subliminal backdrop to the proceedings, while the 909 hats ride some downright funky sub bass patterns out into the void. On the flip side (or should that read the flipped-out side) you'll find the gap. Warning! Do not play this record to children under 16 as it may cause irreparable damage to their synapses. It's a monster -- pure and simple. Once again there's an amazing amount of space to be found between the beats but this time it's repeatedly violated by a full dosage of electro-shock therapy. It's the sound of technology eating itself -- but quite good fun all the same! Every so often a project comes along that inadvertently redefines a genre, that subtly moves the goalposts, that stamps it's personality on a tried and tested formula creating a new sound in the process. This may well be one of them."

Teco Remixes - Too Late
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 036EP
"The final installment of Luciano and Pier Bucci's Monne Automne project features two remixes of 'Teco' -- one of the stand-out tracks from last year's timeless
Introducing Light and Sound
album. The A-side features a remix from Pier Bucci (Crosstown Rebels, Multicolor) together with long-time Lofi associate Pink Elln. The result is a deceptively funky piece of music. Deceptive, because it hides behind a pumping 4/4 kick but the patter and slide of the drum machines fill the remaining space with the blissed-out precision of a tabla player. The B-side features 'Too Late,' another (unreleased on vinyl) album favourite, remastered for the dance floor. It's a smoky, late night, bass and drum groove, a cool mixing tool and perfect for a bit of minimal beat juggling. The second 'Teco' remix by Neville Attree (Further) returns to the vibe of the original album cut, with a funky, organic electro-dub groove. Whereas the A-side mix celebrates the art of 'clicks n cuts', the B-side mix pays tribute to the sublime melodies that have come to define the Monne Automne project."

Let Fernando In/Two Lane Highway
Label:
LO-FI STEREO (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 037EP
"Following on from his self-assured debut on Lofi at the start of the year, Renato's second release contains two more contrasting tracks that demonstrate his growing mastery of all things minimal. In a genre that can often sound predictable and devoid of substance, Renato brings something new to the table. Here, you will not only find squelching acid basslines and beautifully crafted soundscapes but elements of humour and romance that give his music its unmistakable charm and identity. 'Let Fernando In' was the first track we received after Renato and his mates joined us for an 'extended' weekend out and about in Frankfurt, culminating in a Jaegermeister-fuelled session at Robert Johnson -- and the slow, grinding, dirty house sound that's synonymous with the club is definitely on show here. The track builds patiently using intricately arranged percussive fx and a slow, pumping bassline before unravelling itself into the classic 'Fernando' breakdown and that's when the acid really kicks in, forcing those hands up into the air. I'm not sure what Fernando's brought with him but it certainly does the trick! 'Two Lane Highway' is, as the title suggests, the perfect soundtrack for a late night ocean drive. Top down, a cool breeze and no particular place to go... just an open road pulling you deeper into the night. The rolling bassline sits perfectly with the empty, filtered groove, while the delicate, feline melody picks its way through a dense forest of lush, soothing pad sounds. Another mini-classic to warm the soul and keep the dancefloors smouldering..."

Heike

Format:
12"
Price:
$9.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 038EP
"I do not want to compare Ricardo Villalobos productions with the character of a good wine again, that gets better and better the longer one waits... This comparison has been mentioned too often however in this case it is again more than true. Damn bastard you, what have done in that lonely night back in '97 delivering such a masterpiece that ranks somewhere between Richie Hawtin's
Spastik
and the almighty Lemon8 track? A shuffle-909-techno-monster with a mystic female vocal on top and a crazy synthline that makes this a tech-house-classic to stay for ever! For some of us 'Heike' guided us the last ten years through nights at the omen, the e-werk, the Tresor, many open air festivals and various afterhours at beaches and pools. After all those years smiling and screaming about 'Heike' and after nearly a hundred personal requests to repress this masterpiece Ricardo and me finally decided to do it...."

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
LOFI 041EP
"A mysterious project name by two mysterious minimal house-heroes: Casio Casino & Eddie Zarook. Based in lovely Heidelberg the two had their Lofi Stereo debut in 2005 and after a follow-up release on Neville Attree's Gumption Recordings they are about to return to the mothership again. We didn't ask what the codes in the track names 'ANS08.2' & '011RNS' indicate but we know for sure that these tracks open up a minimal house heaven. The A-side 'ANS08.2' is an hypnotic anthem that drives every tech-house and minimal floor mad with its nice combination of sound snipplets, new school synthlines and a cool oldskool synthstab. The more laid back flipside is the perfect soundtrack for Berlin-based afterhours. Although everybody here hates Berlin afterhours we cannot wait to hear the track at one of them ;) welcome back Eddie Zarook & Casio Casino. 'Eins zwei drei vier fünf sechs sieben acht, one two!' (Kraftwerk, 1981)"

"What a debut! Sometimes good things need their time to develop and grow, so it happened to our two new Helvetian buddies Amadeus Paulussen and Francesco Cali. Their music can be described as a perfect meltdown of tripping Detroit/Carl Craig-influenced acid techno with elements of Trentemøller, Buttrich and even Dirt Crew but all in all in their very own style. Techno made in the year 2007 proudly looking back and combining the best of the last five to six years! On top of that the two delivered an outstanding production with a superb sound quality not appearing like a debut at all. We cannot imagine where this will go in the future, but first layouts of their follow-up single are making large waves already! So here we go, after Luciano, Serafin, Bruchstücke and the Army Knife here is the next Swiss chocolate to please the floors. Forget about the cheese, here are Paulussen & Cali! Merci vielmals!"

"After his Lo-Fi Stereo debut, Scary Grant got feedback from names like Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Väth, Loco Dice and even house heroes like George Morell played his release
Crash/Almost Crash
and set floors on fire with it. All in the same year, Lo-Fi Stereo released the still striking
Housemusic/State Of Mind
by Motorcitysoul and the
Sinistra/Destra
Detroit-homage by Paulussen & Cali. A good year that was unexpectedly interrupted by cutting problems with Scary Grant's follow-up 12" and a serious computer-crash in the Lo-Fi Stereo studios (by the way: thanks to Apple!). We are back to business now with this long overdue Scary Grant release that features an amazing Alfa Romero remix (by Eclat & Prudo) and a house remix by Scary Grant himself. This will continue where
Crash/Almost Crash
ended and burned floors with its minimal house vibe. Insane 'Strawberry' vocal samples, a driving ping-pong beat and an acid bass line makes this release a sure shot alongside house and minimal house DJs. A designated follow-up and a winner and last but not least a complete minimal house package by the current football World Cup winners nation: Italy! Mile grazie amici!"

"The worldwide techno scene is just amazing. Every other year, there are different spots and areas with their scenes and producers in the focus of the techno/house public. We all remember the foundation days of Detroit techno and Chicago house, New York garage, the high days of UK house, followed by French filter disco, London new jazz, and last but not least, the current German minimal nation hype. Now there is the breeding ground of Italian and Swiss producers gaining more and more attention -- luckily we have both here: a Swiss and an Italian joining forces and delivering amazing Detroitish techno hymns. After their stunning and very impressive Lofi Stereo debut (
Sinistra/Destra
), their new release breathes even more the spirit of Detroit and shows their strong influences by names like Carl Craig, Rob Hood and Richie Hawtin. Of course, all in their very own style with quite a Swiss touch: relaxed and ass-kicking at the same time! No doubt: Paulussen & Cali are here to stay. Swiss mountain massive!"
