Title: Render
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $14.00

Hotly-buzzed super-group: Cologne Tape are Ada, Axel Willner (The Field), Jörg Burger (Modernist, Burger & Voigt), Philipp Janzen (Von Spar), John Stanier (Battles), Jens-Uwe Beyer (Popnoname), John Harten and Daniel Ansorge, as well as other friends from the label's entourage like Mario Katz, Michael Heydebereck and Volker Pannes (Deepulse). When listening to the mini-album Render, Cologne Tape can sound like Heldon, Soft Machine, Emtidi, Human Resource, etc., all together, or completely different. And this is only the beginning. Limited, numbered edition of 300.

Artist: BARNT
Title: What Is A Number, That A Man May Know It?
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: MAGAZINE 002EP
Barnt now releases his debut on Magazine: a hypnotic and free-floating haze, heavily influenced by the dancefloor. Few times before has the psychedelic energy of the 1970s been combined with techno house in such an idiosyncratic way. "Collection" reflects everything that was on the verge of fraying when groups like The Who or Ash Ra Tempel exaggerated the freeform. "Minister" is a rhythmical soundscape cut by razor-sharp 909 drums. The test-pressing has already ignited dancefloors. This record is for DJs. The first 250 copies are signed and numbered and contain an art supplement which will leave you puzzled.

Artist: DRUMS OFF CHAOS & JENS-UWE BEYER
Title: Drums Off Chaos & Jens-Uwe Beyer
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MAGAZINE 003CD
Founded in Cologne the early 1980s, the anarchistic formation Drums Off Chaos has continued uninterrupted to the present day. The collective of Jaki Liebezeit, Reiner Linke, Maf Retter, Manos Tsangaris and others make music centered on dynamic but still very precise rhythmic codes using carefully-selected sounds and patterns on self-constructed drums. Previously, the group considered the shared and nonrecurring experience of playing live more important than getting the music recorded. The latest release, however, is the result of a collaboration with Cologne-based musician Jens-Uwe Beyer (Popnoname). Thus, the Drums Off Chaos sound is available on record for the first time after almost 30 years (aside from an experimental singer collaboration available as a very limited CD mailorder release). Beyer -- from a generation that grew up with Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project rather than with Can -- opens the record with the beat of a gong adding irradiant sounds and elements of soft rhythms, which over time interweave seamlessly with the energetic drum sound. The slowly floating melodies and punctuated bass of Beyer convey an almost monastic intensity which underpins and reinforces the exacting rhythm of the drums. This uncommon and multi-generational clash of musicians results in peerless music that defies classification and comparison, as effects never before heard on record materialize for the first time.

Artist: MAGAZINE
Title: Concerts, Festivals, Shows And Other Special Events
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MAGAZINE 004EP
Collaborating since 1999, recently founding the label Magazine and the collective Cologne Tape, this is nevertheless the first time Barnt, Crato and Jens-Uwe Beyer appear together as one formation, simply called Magazine. Living in Cologne for the past decade, with the exception of some years spent in London and Manchester, the group is based on DJ culture and on the German electronic music tradition. This record is pockmarked with overflowing melodies, sometimes well-structured, sometimes wild and wooly. Artwork on high quality heavy stock.

Artist: LOOPS OF YOUR HEART
Title: And Never Ending Nights
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MAGAZINE 005CD
Please allow us the pleasure of introducing Axel Willner's Loops Of Your Heart. Hailing from Sweden, the man behind this record alone needs no introduction, as he is already well-known in the electronic music scene for his project The Field. Loops Of Your Heart reflects Axel's experience in Germany, where during his lengthy stays, his mantra-like arpeggiators contributed to the first manifestation of the sound of Cologne Tape, a group that formed while he was staying there. You can also hear this on the much sought-after debut Render, which came out on Magazine in 2010. Only a foreshadowing of what was to about to come, Willner has been living in Berlin and letting his creativity go crazy. With an arsenal of special synthesizers and guitars, he has put together And Never Ending Nights. After touring worldwide with The Field for the last 10 years, this album is like coming home again. You can hear German children speaking outside his studio in Berlin (on the track "Neukölln") and it is not only the track titles which tell of things that have come to an end and or are about to happen. The old German musical tradition of letting yourself go (Holger Czukay, You, Anima, Cluster, you name it) is in the air, and Willner breathes it. His highly personal approach to music and composition leads to nothing less then a matchless album that embodies beginning anew.

Artist: VOIGT, WOLFGANG
Title: Ruckverzauberung 6
Label: MAGAZINE (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: MAGAZINE 007EP
Rückverzauberung (trans. "Reverse Enchantment") is a label-travel-project of Wolfgang Voigt. Voigt's music has always been based on contradictory sound constructs, oscillating between harmony and atonality. But on the beat-free "Rückverzauberung 6.1" and "6.2," sounds and structures are (reversely) enchanted in such a bizarre/abstract manner, that it is difficult to draw a comparison to other pieces from Voigt's catalog. Due to his technique of deconstruction/reconstruction to the essential/substantial, sounds that are somewhat familiar seem completely new. Voigt calls this "Dedivination."
