Title: The Second Marriage Records Compilation
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: 2CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 038CD
"Marriage Records offer a second compilation documenting the rude health of this Portland, OR based community. The first noticeable difference between this collection and the previous compilation from 2004 is the extra disk. Marriage have grown up, cherishing the artists it set up to serve while welcoming new voices into their crucial discussion. Disc one represents the more psychedelic elements of the Marriage stable; the windy tones of the opening track by Privacy, the purple wash of Adam Forkner's White Rainbow and the scaling folk of Adrian Orange all sound different but somehow make sense in their shared home at Marriage. Disc two stands as a testament to the open philosophy of the Marriage family; The Watery Graves' lounge-punk homage to Portland shares a journey with the enigmatic figure of Rob Walmart and his warped hip-hop jams. This is a collection of people who collaborate and support one another through art and are excited to share their work with the rest of the world. The outcome is joyous and essential."

Artist: VALET
Title: Naked Acid
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 048LP
"Naked Acid is the second solo release from Portland artist Valet, aka Honey Owens. She states: 'these songs were inspired by the Pacific Northwest landscape, semi-conscious dream states and the idea of one's DNA code being accessed as eternal memory. I started off with the idea to make a 'songs' record but it really didn't turn out that way. Instead, the record became its own story. Track one is a static beach journey duet with Adrian Orange, and tracks 3, 4 and 5 are collaborations with Mark Evan Burden (Silentist) on drums.' From the gentle narcotic haze of the album opener 'We Went There,' which is dissected by Honey's trademark incendiary guitar work, to the lazy alien country blues of 'Fuck It,' and through the hyperventilating rhythmic distortion of the closer 'Streets,' Naked Acid is a fever dream of ghostly incantation and smudged psychedelia." CD is on Kranky.

Artist: LUCKY DRAGONS
Title: Dark Falcon
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 050LP
"Appearing originally in the fall of 2002 as a limited CD-only release from the pioneering indie electronic label 555 Recordings, Lucky Dragons' first full length Dark Falcon circulated widely through burned CDs and tapes traded amongst friends. Now this mythical mixtape creature is getting a royal reissue treatment from Marriage Records, coinciding with the release of Lucky Dragons' newest full length, Dream Island Laughing Language. This is where the Los Angeles-based collective learned how to make a record: culling from two years' worth of accumulated field recordings and tender homemade spirituals, each of the 21 tracks hangs together in a delicate reinventing of traditional song structures. For all of its densely layered nostalgia and boldly digital textures, this is a lucid and revealing listen, a microscopically poetic vision into the process of blossoming collaboration between good friends in hard times. Cassettes traded through the mail, chance snippets of radio from a friends' bedroom, firecrackers in the street, drums in the living room, overheard conversations, every sound is to be listened through: a window perpetually opening. Spare and gentle, explosive and candid, all of the collective's prolific output relies on this record as its foundation."

Title: Dream Island Laughing Language
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: CD
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 051CD
"The 18th release by Los Angeles-based Lucky Dragons details the continuing pursuit of a humble and ecstatic, drippy and explosive, smoldering and upset music for our experience in America right now -- messages of unrest have long failed to be clearly understood, solitude and empty organization have given way to a very current volcanic desire for togetherness. Genre has never been less important -- influences and ideas are consumed and digested and released in the spirit of a culture larger than music as it is bought and sold. This is world music for a world that doesn't care about 'music' as we have packaged it for the last 100 years. You could call it post-noise, or post-anything you like, but we would prefer to call it pre-something. Lucky Dragons came together in the spring of 2000 in an attempt to create a band that would never break up. The name is borrowed from a Japanese fishing vessel caught in the fallout of a U.S. hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific Ocean that became a focal point for world-wide anti-nuclear sentiment in the 20th century. With a constantly shifting group of participants, each recording is a record of a specific time and place, and of those present and active as a community in the creation of the recording. For this recording, the time is 2007-2008, the place is California. The name of the record refers to the landfill-island in Tokyo harbor where the original Lucky Dragon now lives -- "Dream Island" -- and to the creation of imaginary languages -- 'laughing language'-- that can be used to express things our own languages can't. As with Lucky Dragons' legendary live performances, these recordings strive to create a space where community and memory and ritual and perspective all come together as a crystal and then vibrate and shatter."

"The eighteenth release by Los Angeles-based Lucky Dragons details the continuing pursuit of a humble and ecstatic, drippy and explosive, smoldering and upset music for our experience in America right now -- messages of unrest have long failed to be clearly understood, solitude and empty organization have given way to a very current volcanic desire for togetherness. Artist: PANTHER
Title: 14 Kt. God
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 052LP
"Panther is the two-headed effort of Charlie Salas-Humara (The Planet The) on vocals, cello, guitar, and keys and Joe Kelly (31 Knots) on drums. But even when it was Charlie's solo effort, he was never really alone. Whether live or on record, there was a sense that Panther was being overtaken by something, not an alter-ego, this was something else. Think Ian Curtis' convulsive intensity and James Brown's spastic swagger, and you still won't have Panther, but a sense of what-the-fuckness that all of them seem to call up. The early recordings born in the basements and warehouses of Portland, OR around 2001 brought a new brand of broken electro that when coupled with the lunatic immediacy of his modern dance meltdowns, defied categorization entirely. Panther landed on bills as varied as opening slots from Peaches to Wolf Eyes. The monstrous throb of the beats matched by Charlie's intensity bring a sense of religious visitation to any room Panther humps the floor in. His panic-driven falsetto howling non-sequiturs about paranoid sexuality make his jams hysterical, compelling, but most importantly, danceable."

Artist: TUNE-YARDS
Title: Bird-Brains
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: MAR 055LP
"Merrill came from parents who sewed their lives together with music, and at age seven she proceeded to hum her way through days. She hummed her way through the family record collection: Old Timey fiddling, Revolver, Django. She hummed her way through mid-'80's pop radio and an obsession with Christmas music. She hummed her way through folk music camp, through Smith College and a theater degree, through anarchist puppet training, through brazen, all-women a cappella singing, through heat rash in Kenya, through deeply scrutinized puppet performances in Europe, through her lonely, swirling 20s. The hum seems to have become a yell. In 2008 she released BiRd-BrAiNs, which she had recorded over a span of 2.5 years on a hand-held voice recorder. Sampling snippets of her life as a nanny on Martha's Vineyard and later as a young musician in noisy urban settings, she weaved sounds together to make substantial rhythms and then layered her ukulele and vocals over top." In hand-made sleeve.

Artist: WHITE FANG
Title: Whatever
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 059LP
"After a whole year of traveling, practicing, learning, growing, and partying, White Fang boys offer their latest collection of songs. The whole year's worth of experience is presented in this new record, although some songs were recorded even before Pure Evil. Musically, there is still the same rawness, though even more ready and confident than anything we've done before. Similar to Pure Evil though, is the inclusion of songs recorded in different stages. Some songs are polished and have been played to smiling crowds across the country. Some were just starting to come together and are offered as insights into how songs evolve in this band, while others were birthed there and were never to return. On Whatever White Fang reveals itself to be something more than just stage dives, broken noses, and noise complaints. Somewhere in their haze of tie-dyed public annihilation, are genuine displays of compassion and sympathy towards the crumbling world that is underground youth music. Songs like 'Dream On' with its constant reassuring refrains of 'It takes a little while,' and 'Don't turn your back on the world,' are almost submissive to the pressure of 'normal' life. However, tracks such as 'Portland Sucks' and 'Parties to Crash' are protest songs geared against the things that White Fang has come to take a stand against; ageism from venues, older musicians, and journalists, the climate of the Portland DIY community, with its 'past glory' vibe and constant presence of musical figures whose social and artistic relevance have all but washed away, and the overwhelming invasion of young 'artists and musicians' who have come to Portland in search of culture. These songs are smiling confrontation, the showing of the fangs. This is not elitism or a boast of higher standing, but rather an attempt to encourage humble confidence to anyone who will listen."

Artist: NINJASONIK
Title: USBD
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: MAR 060LP
"Ninjasonik are tha future. Jah Jah's the punk, Telli's the rapper, and Teenwolf keeps the beat spinning. Easy to love, hard to hate (unless you're a hater), Ninjasonik come from a place of pure adulation for what they get to do and the good people they get to do it with. Rhythms and synths so filthy they make songs about pregnancy, AIDS, and tight pants seem like odes to the dancefloor and the company of friends. You already know!" -- popmontreal.com

Catalog #: MAR 063LP
"Experimental heavyweights Adam Forkner (White Rainbow, Rob Walmart, Atlas Sound), Honey Owens (Valet, Miracles Club, Atlas Sound), and Eva Salens (Inca Ore) collaborate to exploit their highly vibed-out dubby post-yoga practice chilling with the cats killer band that has made a great debut record called Proper Eats. Artist: INSTITUT FUER FEINMOTORIK
Title: Abgegriffen
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: LP
Price: $15.00
Catalog #: MAR 064LP
"Institut fuer Feinmotorik (IFF) is an artists' group working in different formats and media, although the main activity is acoustic-art/music. IFF is located in Bad Sackingen, Berlin, Cologne, and Karlsruhe, Germany. The group was founded in 1997 for a club event in Basel, Switzerland at Brisant kiosk/club. IFF produces different outputs (photography, video, music, drawing, computer-programming, printed matters etc.), organizes artistic/cultural events, does lectures and workshops and publishes artistic goods such as music records, books etc. IFF got some reputation for their acoustic work with a reductionist set-up called octogrammoticum: 8 turntables, 4 DJ mixers + end-mixer, which is served by the group members. Anything (except records) which somehow fits between turntables and pick-up cartridges (household-rubber bands, paper-stickers, rubber gums, handicraft-tools + various tinker-trivias) may be played."

Artist: WHITE RAINBOW/STAG HARE
Title: White Stag
Label: MARRIAGE RECORDS
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: MAR 066LP
"This is a collaborative record between electronic psychedelic artists Stag Hare and White Rainbow. Two tracks, with a third as digital download only, included with the album. Side one is a remix of the track that is not on the vinyl. White Rainbow took the source that was still in the machines immediately after collaboratively jamming and made a chugging propulsive mega house remix that, midway through, divulges into fuzzed-out ambient guitar blankets, hand percussion drum circle loops and vocal swells before tripping over itself and diffusing into a million shattered pieces of its former self. Side two is a collage, where White Rainbow creates a thick multi-layered ocean of chugging trap-drum loops, with Stag Hare embellishing via whispered vocal incantations, vibe-shop wind chime wafts, and dream-time clean guitar billows. Burns as clean as the finest cedar incense with all the windows open after a fresh autumn rain."
