Artist: EILIFF
Title: Eiliff & Girlrls!
Label: MASON RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: MR 56444CD
Two-fer reissue of the 2 Eiliff albums, originally released by Philips in 1971/2. "On their two predominantly instrumental albums, Eiliff destroyed barriers between rock and jazz and established progressive genres, with lengthy intensive compositions that twist and turn with startling complexity, or riff with amazing power and stability. In their unique concoction songs were rarely used, and only then to counterpoint the instrumentals, and when necessary get over an idea that couldn't be achieved without words. Eiliff just seemed to do everything right. They had the power of Mahavishnu Orchestra, the invention of Guru Guru, the diversity of Out Of Focus, and really they were purely excessive, with diverse elements blended together as only experienced in Krautrock. Intense chopping piano and organ, along with excellent drums and firm bass guitar providing a structure for a wealth of superb guitar from virtuoso Houschäng Nejadepour, and lots of smooth 'Mothers styled'electric sax. Eiliff itself is remarkable as one of the most complexly instrumental of Krautrock albums, not least the 20 minute side-long 'Suite,' whereas Girlrls! came close, but was shorter, more condensed and added a touch of hard-rock and psychedelia." -- Freeman's.

Artist: DEVIANTS, THE
Title: #3/Fragments of Broken Probes
Label: MASON RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: MR 56446CD
Two-fer reissue of these two Mick Farren outputs on one CD. #3 was The Deviants third and final album, originally released in 1969. 3 has future Pink Fairies members Paul Rudolph, bassist Duncan Anderson and drummer Russell Hunter on it, and the future influence is definitely felt. Featuring Mick Farren classic wacky vocals, this release is a classic example of underground psychedelia with a punk/blues edge. "Fragments of Broken Probes is an all-encompassing roundup of the myriad nooks and crannies that have punctuated Mick Farren's career since he launched the Deviants in 1966. It is also one of the most essential releases in his entire catalog. Vocals scream, guitars keen, and rhythms race by with speed metal density; though the performance pre-dated punk with barely minutes to spare, Farren's claim to godfatherhood could have no better witness. The earliest tracks date from the dog days of the Deviants in 1968-1969; sound collages, interludes, and a clutch of recent recordings take the story up to 1996 and the group's reinvention as aural terrorists for a new generation. But time neither dulls nor detracts from the consistent excellence of the material, and the often scarifying relevance of Farren's worldview. As both a performer and a writer, he was often described as being ahead of his time. With a fiery breath that still smells fresh, Fragments shows listeners just how far ahead he really was." --Artist Direct

Artist: P.L.J BAND
Title: Armageddon
Label: MASON RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: MR 56460CD
Grey-area reissue of this late Greek psych album, originally issued by Polydor in 1981. "For sure this is one of the greatest ever recordings to come from Greece. An evil-looking sleeve and dark, brooding synthesizers behind dramatic recitations from the revelation of St. John and Ezekiel's prophecies. Guitar parts have strong similarities to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album."
