Artist: RANIL Y SU CONJUNTO TROPICAL
Title: Ranil's Jungle Party
Label: MASSTROPICAS
Format: LP
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: TROPIC 004LP
"With this release, Masstropicas begins its fascinating journey through time into 1970's Peru. Peruvian cumbia, the heartbeat of the nation that was and is loved by millions, has been rescued and is now being lovingly introduced to North American audiences. There's no better way to start than with the hypnotic electric guitars of the jungle, fabulously played by Ranil & his Tropical Band. The band originally hails from the Belen district of Iquitos, nestled within the heart of the Amazonian rainforest. The town is famous for being flooded for several months, transforming it into a steamy South American Venice, which undoubtedly influences its people and their music. During our journey, you'll enjoy the different sounds of jungle music we bring to your stereo. Mix a bit of lush greenery, cool waters, surging heat, sweat, joy, and psychedelia -- Ranil & his Tropical Band are the final product."

Title: El Sonido De Tupac Amaru
Label: MASSTROPICAS
Format: LP + 7"
Price: $23.00
Catalog #: TROPIC 006LP
"With this compilation, El Sonido de Tupac Amaru, and accompanying bonus 7' E.P., Masstropicas presents the next installment in their quest to bring you the very finest in Peruvian cumbia. El Sonido de Tupac Amaru starts with the slow coastal pulse of Grupo Naranja, while the Amazonian sound of Iquitos Los Silvers' 'Sueno Amazonico' has a smooth and soothing groove that will aurally transport you down the Amazon River in a canoe. Seven out of the ten tracks here feature vocals, such as the legendary voices of Chacal, Pancho Lema, Martin Lopez, and Claudio Moran. The three instrumentals featured here are sure to please fans of previous guitar-driven compilations. First comes Pucallpa's Septima Region; their song 'De la Selva Con Furor' starts off with some nasty drumming before drawing you into a psychedelic guitar sprawl that makes you wonder, 'Why weren't these guys ever compiled before?' This compilation also includes a special four song E.P. with the voice of 'El patron de la cumbia,' Carlos Ramirez Centeno. The first, a Destellos song, was written by the great Tito Caycho and includes the guitar work of the late Enrique Delgado. Released for the first time on vinyl in the U.S., Carlos Ramirez's own group, Grupo Centeno, appears with his first 45 hit, 'Rico Vacilon.' Limited to a one-time pressing of 500 copies (hand-numbered), this release also comes with a full-color 11' x 22' fold-out with rare photos, scans, and other info taken from interviews with band members. It also comes with a full-color sleeve to accompany the Centeno E.P."

Artist: GRUPO 2000
Title: El Destape
Label: MASSTROPICAS
Format: LP
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: TROPIC 007LP
"The early-to mid-1970s surge in cumbia peruana led many coastal groups to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Los Destellos, releasing one-off LPs and handfuls of singles. At the very same time, there was a similar boom in a different region of the country, 'la selva' (the jungle), which had an explosion of bands up and down the banks of the Amazon, with bands like Ranil Y Su Conjunto, Los Wemblers De Iquitos, Los Rangers De Moyobomba, Juaneco Y Su Combo, Los Royals De Pucallpa, etc., etc. In 1974, a guitarist from Tarapoto by the name of Tulio Trigoso decided to make his mark with his very first effort, El Destape, with his Grupo 2000. It was released on the El Virrey label subsidiary Doremi in October of that year. A highly-coveted gem by collectors from Peru, this LP is virtually unknown outside of Peru. Taken directly from the master tapes, Masstropicas proudly presents the first ever reissue of this 12-song masterpiece. Kick back, drop the needle onto the grooves, and allow Tulio's top-notch songwriting to cast its spell over you." Housed in old-school "tip-on" jacket with a 11"x22" full-color, double-sided insert.

Artist: LOS JHARIS
Title: Los Creadors Del Sonido De La Carretera Central
Label: MASSTROPICAS
Format: LP + 7"
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: TROPIC 009LP
"Los Jharis De Nana was formed in the early '80s by the king of the Carterra Central, guitarist Teo Laura. Their raw and unadulterated sounds would proliferate throughout the different working class districts of Lima and would eventually set a new standard amongst musicians and fans alike. This is what many people in Peru refer to when they use the word 'chicha' in a musical sense; it can perhaps be best explained if you approach it with outer space in mind. We guarantee this will be quite the musical experience for the uninitiated! The six songs off of this 12" were taken off of a cassette release that you would find street vendors selling in Peru during that time period. Teo Laura is one of the great song writers of cumbia Peruana and has worked with many different groups since the early '70s. Let the music speak for itself!" Limited one-time pressing of 500 copies with homemade hand stamped labels. Includes bonus 7" single with picture sleeve, featuring Sensacion Shipibo's first recordings in 30+ years (recorded by Masstropicas).
