Miasmah
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 018CD
"Miasmah is a internet collective of artists dedicated to the output of experimental electronic music in laidback forms. Merck, being big fans of the Miasmah content for several years, went through and chose their favorite tracks from the catalog to release as a compilation. Containing musical styles ranging from jazzy hiphop, Farbenesque minimal techno on through to freestyle jazz. A new direction for the Merck label, but one we are sure the fans will appreciate with its lush melodies and innovative percussion."

Title:
High School Confidential
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 019CD
"
High School Confidential
is the debut CD from the Minneapolis based band Tiki Obmar. With 3 members, friends for years and playing together for almost as long, baring their souls with the intricate framework of the dense indie-IDM compositions. Guitar originated sounds bounce and grind in with excellent drum sensibilities and floaty touching pads. Basically, they are multi-instrumentalists running live drums, bass, guitar, and keys through samplers and effects. Another quality Merck CD with aesthetic and tunes that move you with deft arrangements and mood-driven melodies."

Title:
Double Down Compilation
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 021CD
"The sixth compilation Merck has done to date, focusing on exposing new and upcoming talent from the label, as well as artists that you may be seeing more often around the scene. Its one part Squadron and one part Aurora, but with several steps forward, and readily harkens back to the sound and feel of the early compilations on the label. Starting off strong and in your face and then slowly bleeding out into some undulating paddy ambient. Xhale's upbeat cluttered style blends into Twerk's glitchnod IDM, then rolling more around Sense's emotive paddiness, which then bounces into Pretty Boy Crossover's mellow bump-nod. The CD then takes a turn down into some new and chilled out material by Tstewart (aka Machinedrum), plus other lush ambience by Blamstrain, Sabi, and Semiomime, who cover a wide range and scope of ambient sound."
Artist:
SYNDRONE
Title:
Salmataxia
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 025CD
"The second album from the first artist to ever be released on Merck, Syndrone. This album while sticking to the stylistic mannerisms of the older Syndrone material, moves light years ahead. He has traded in a lot of the dated sounds of
Triskaideka
for some of the smoothest and most precise programming and beats around. As well as his more varied structure and progression definitely display a maturity not seen previously."
Artist:
DECEPTIKON
Title:
Lost Subject
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 027CD
"Debut CD from Portland area based producer Deceptikon. Jazzy sample based hip hop beats with heavy emphasis on melody. No rhymes on here, but the bobbing of heads shouldn't be strange to listeners of this CD, musically falling somewhere between Machinedrum and the recent Merck hiphop discovery, Aphilas. Containing well known breaks combined with pads and horns, plus a touch of west coast style. Composed of fifteen tracks made over the last several years, expect high quality hiphop from this elusive northwestern producer." Last copies, deleted item.

With a wide range of remixes, from Helios's well crafted reworking, to the bump and grind of Proem and Machine Drum, down into lush ambience concocted by Adam Johnson. Guitar originated sounds bounce in and out with excellent drum sensibilities and floaty touch pads, creating a truly ethereal sensibility. Another quality Merck release with tunes that move you with deft arrangements and mood-driven melodies, not to mention the superb remix work as well."

LATEDUSTER
Title:
Easy Pieces
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 030CD
"
Easy Pieces
is the first widely distributed CD from the Minneapolis based band Lateduster. Formed in 1999 of Bryan Olson, JG Everest, Martin Dosh and Andrew Broder, they are multi-instrumentalists running live drums, bass, guitar, turntables and keys through samplers and effects that culminate in a stunning end result. Over the course of two and a half years, they've played many shows together in Minneapolis and put out four EPs and a self-released album, but unfortunately broke up in November of 2002 to move on to other projects. In the time since then they've been involved with many well renowned projects including Fog (Ninja Tune), Dosh (Anticon), Hymie's Basement (Lex), and Neotropic (Ninja Tune/Mush). So this collective's output is clearly not to be missed as Merck brings together some of their original recordings, newly re-mastered and mixed, with new artwork onto a full 50-minute album, plus 2 brand new music videos."

MACHINE DRUM
Title:
Bidnezz
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 031CD
"It has been two long years since the last Machine Drum album, and in that time Machine Drum (aka Travis Stewart) has been busy touring on all coasts, as well as carefully crafting the shapes and sounds of his much anticipated new record. Working on his aliases Syndrone and Tstewart, as well as developing what is definitely the most adept Machine Drum album yet, Stewart takes one part 'Now You Know,' a touch of 'Urban Biology,' and a shake of 'Salmtaxia' and mixes them together in a blender to get
Bidnezz
. The album delves into dense melodic loveliness and intricate IDM, as well as chopped up vocals and hard-hitting hip hop beats -- 22 tracks that took over 2 years to craft. The compositions are strict head nodders filled with the classic Machine Drum sound that has made him one of the most exciting up-and-comers, sure to please his wide and devoted fanbase."

Breakspiracy Theories - Library Beats & Instrumentals
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 034CD
"Debut Merck CD from Austin, Texas based producer Malcolm Kipe, better known to some as Nautilis (of Planet-Mu).
Breakspiracy Theories
is a conceptual piece focused on the aesthetics of raw sample based hip hop and the political motivations of Malcom Kipe. This is a collection of hip hop library beats and instrumentals composed of nineteen tracks made in 2004 & 2005, including some material from the previously released 'BT1' 12". This album is strongly influenced by golden era hip hop production and excessive crate digging. Expect high quality material from this skilled southern producer with a sample collection of gold."
Artist:
BLAMSTRAIN
Title:
Blamstrain Remixed
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 035CD
"This is the second Blamstrain CD on Merck, that being a collection of remixes of tracks from his first debut CD
Ensi
. With a varied and allstar lineup of remixers on it including Mesak (1/2 of Mr. Velcro Fastener), Proem, Funckarma, Isan, Gridlock, Mosaik, Taho, Lackluster, Syndrone, No Xivic, and a special closing track by Blamstrain himself. His first album straddled the divide between IDM and techno and these remixes bring an even greater diversity to his sound, from Mesak's intelligent electro, to Isans lush downtempo reconfiguration on to Lackluster's 4/4 breakdown and on into Blamstrain and No Xivic's dark ambient closers. A CD for dark nights and early mornings watching the traffic shift in cities downtown."

Aurora 2
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 036CD
"The second Aurora compilation is a departure from most Merck releases thus far. It is a compilation composed of ambient tracks created by mostly Merck-related producers, most of whom are primarily known for their IDM output. The music has a lot of warmth to it and a very high melody/noise ratio. A lot of the tracks are reminiscent of
Selected Ambient Works 2
-era inviting warmth and smoothness. Featuring tracks by Deru, Ginormous, Sabi, Kettel, Max Spransy, Blamstrain, Cepia, Twerk, and Shapeshifter. This 75-minute CD is an exciting departure from the traditional roles of some IDM producers, and something very refreshing to hear amongst the beautiful material Merck is normally known for."

CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 037CD
"Second Merck CD from Austin, Texas based producer Malcom Kipe, better known to some as Nautilis (of Planet-Mu).
Lit
is a get down and dirty piece focused on the aesthetics of raw sample based hip hop and the nasty sampling habits of Malcom Kipe. This is a collection of 52 minutes of beats and instrumentals composed of twenty tracks made and polished in 2004 & 2005. This album is strongly influenced by early '90s hip hop production and excessive crate digging. Including lots of material that fans of his previous full length CD,
Breakspiracy Theories
, should fall in love with."

"It has been a long year since the last Machinedrum album came out on Merck, in that time Machine Drum (aka Travis Stewart) has been busy touring the US and Japan, as well as carefully crafting the shapes and sounds of his much anticipated new record under the alias Tstewart. He has also been working on more material for his aliases Syndrone and Machinedrum, as well as developing what is definitely his most mature album yet,
Living Exponentially

Title:
Mergerz & Acquisitionz
Label:
MERCK
Format:
2CD
Price:
$16.00
Catalog #:
MERCK 039CD
"
Mergerz & Acquisitionz
is the biggest, most varied, and most all around head banging remix disc to come out on Merck yet. Its also the fifth, and will be final, remix CD that Merck will put out over its reputable career. These tracks hover around the aggressive cutup IDM/hiphop style Machine Drum is known for, but branch in a number of ways. Some into more dense IDM reworkings, others into more upbeat and aggressive forays into sample reconstruction. Ranging from destructive sound organization, to much chiller downtempo, even dark tracks, this is a CD that meets a lot of needs. Remixers include: Machinedrum, Nautilis, Kid 606, Bauri, Praveen, Team Doyobi, Looza & Chimerical Child, Funckarma, Acid Wolf, Eustachian, Jemapur, Mochipet, Deceptikon, Epstein, Calmer, Ginormous, Mic Mell, Landau, Proswell, Kettel, Mesak, Anders Ilar, Proem, Deru, Kschzt, Talve, Brasswork Agency, Scrubber Fox, Wake, Miles Tilmann, Crankshaft, Lackluster, Sabi, and Secede."

KOCH, TIM
Title:
Faena
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 040CD
"
Faena
marks Tim Koch's first full release on the Merck label, but fifth solo album to date. After years of extensive remix work for Merck, including ripping up works by Machine Drum, Proem, Ilkae and Tiki Obmar, he has finally settled in to a release of his own.
Faena
attempts to distill the elements that have been featured in all of Tim's previous releases, drawing on a broader range of sounds including acoustic guitars, and female vocal elements. The bulk of the album was written whilst on tour in Europe in late 2004, with a cramped Antwerp loft acting as a makeshift studio. The color and density of that experience shows through in this batch of tracks from this prolific Australian producer. Full of beautiful vocal textures and electronically generated acoustic sounds blended with deep grooves, rich harmonies and strong melodies. Yet another quality IDM full length from the Merck camp."

Squadron 2
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
MERCK 041CD
"The original Squadron project was the first compilation release on Merck. So it's fitting that the final compilation release will be the
Squadron 2
CD. The CD contains all the tracks from the vinyl release, which includes Royal Foxbridge, Royal Foxbridge & Xejax, Sumo Lounge, Nautilis, Chachi Jones, Tycho, Winnie the Shit, and Deceptikon, as well as CD exclusive tracks by Proem, Deceptikon, Omnibus and Somnitone. An excellent collection of electronic oriented downtempo goodness, and not a release to be missed."
Artist:
ILKAE
Title:
Bring Extra Dragons
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 043CD
"Ilkae, composed of Aaron Munson and Krystian Lubiszewski, representing from Canada and Poland respectively, present their second full length outing on Merck. What will also be their final release, as they have since gone separate ways. Their musical style could best be described as a mangled pairing of video games, hip hop and electronic trickery. Their youth is reflected on this 16 track, 55 minute adventure, that bounces all over the place with lots of energy and chip influenced spunk. A light hearted romp with most tracks remaining around two to four minutes in length. Served best during a gaming session from your 360 hard drive, or when you can't find your Ritalin."

Title:
Merck Fragments (Data CD)
Label:
MERCK
Format:
MP3 CD
Price:
$8.00
Catalog #:
MERCK 045CD
"This disc marks one of the last releases on Merck, as well as a new direction. The disc is entirely in the Data CD format. Meaning that it is intended to be used in your PC/Mac Computer, or in an MP3-Enabled CD player, but WON'T play in your standard old school CD player. The reason we've done this is that we've crammed over 7 hours of music on here in MP3 format. It features over an hour's worth of music in 11 new tracks and remixes from Merck artists, Blamstrain, Landau, Talve, Lackluster, Proem, Esem, Temp Sound Solutions, and Cepia. Plus over 6 hours of recordings of live sets by Proem, spanning his career here at Merck (2001-2006). Then as an added bonus we've included over 300 pictures and photos from the history of Merck, including a gallery of art by Fthr Productions, as well as a retrospective of all the Merck CD covers, and then some behind-the-scenes photos, graphics, and unreleased CD artwork. Not to be missed, this is a must-have for any Merck fan or collector."

Title:
Sound Puzzle
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 046CD
"Second full length from the Belgian duo known as 40 Winks. They've been making and releasing music for over 4 years and have previously released on several underground Japanese labels, as well as a few in Europe, and we are proud to say this will be their first appearance on a U.S. label, Merck Records.
Sound Puzzle
is a smooth storybook-like collection focused on the aesthetics of raw jazzy hip-hop and the complex layering and arrangements of samples from a variety of sources. Twenty tracks long, and 55 minutes in length, this collection of beats and instrumentals was composed and polished in 2006 with a strong influence of early '90s hip-hop production and excessive crate digging. Merck DJs should feel right at home mixing this in with some Aphilas or Malcom Kipe."

PROSWELL
Title:
Bruxist Frog
Label:
MERCK
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
MERCK 047CD
"Chicago's Joe Misra aka Proswell took just enough time out of his busy schedule studying IDM clichés to compile a fourth long player for Merck, just before they close their doors.
Bruxist Frog
is Proswell's fourth album to date, and will be one of the final two CDs released on Merck. With material from the last few years that has been finely tuned and polished this fall, it has worked itself out to over 60 minutes of music. Uniquely nostalgic, it rises up to overtly dense 8-bit pop, and down into off-world colony lounge music. It continues the timeline and progression of his work into more sophisticated production methods and complex sounds and beats. Proswell's previous material includes his critically acclaimed albums
Konami
and
Carrot Dossier
, as well as a special selection of live tracks melded together for the
Merck Mix Series (4)
. Fans of melodic electronic music are assured satisfaction."

Title:
Ludwijka
Label:
MERCK
Format:
12"
Price:
$6.50
Catalog #:
MERCK LW
"First release on Merck from the renowned Swede Anders Ilar. Some Merck fans may be more familiar with his material recorded for the sister Narita imprint. This release is in the same vein as that material, it hovers around wickedly dark and complex electronics, with complicated beats and programming, but strays from the typical 4/4 dance floor style. The name of the release itself comes from the old spelling of his hometown, Ludvika, which was in use some hundred years ago. This applies to the release because for the source of the tracks, Anders has gone back to his origins, sampling himself from old tapes, including some of the first tracks he ever composed on the piano when he was six years old. He transforms the noises made by animals, nature, humans, instruments and machines into a unique listening experience that takes you back into the Swedish countryside to experience
Ludwijka
firsthand."

Price:

Catalog #:
MERCK MIX4
"We are proud to announce
Merck Mix #4
, a record marking the 5th anniversary of Merck Records. The mix also serves as a celebration of the accomplishments of Proswell. His music knowledge and networking contributions have expanded electronic music in Chicago and around the world in new directions for the past 10 years with online projects such as inpuj.net. This disc all together is a milestone of work in the discography of Proswell and the first artist exclusive mix in the Merck catalog. The mix consists entirely of original Proswell material selected by Proswell himself, and browses through previous Merck releases
Konami
(2003) and
Carrot Dossier
(2004), as well as new unreleased tracks. Starting off the CD is a track recorded live at the very first Native Instruments Artist Highlight [NIAH] in Chicago, and it continues from there to delve into dancier remixes and headnod breaks from various points in his catalog."

Title:
Past Is Prologue Sampler
Label:
MERCK
Format:
12"
Price:
$6.50
Catalog #:
MERCK PP
"
Past is Prologue
is the new, fully re-mastered version of Tycho's debut full length
Sunrise Projector
, which was released independently on Tycho's own imprint (Gammaphone Records) in fall 2004. The release was limited to mail-order and quickly sold out through the first two pressings. We are now proud to present a 12" sampler version of the Merck CD album. With revised art and fully re-mastered audio from the Gammaphone version. This is the first time any of Tycho's music will be appearing on vinyl, and it includes remixes by Nautilis and Dusty Brown. Musically, this release lies somewhere between label mates Helios and Machine Drum, with a touch of Malcom Kipe. Hip-hop infused beats, hypnotic melodies and dynamic syncopated textures blend to create a dense, atmospheric listening experience. Limited 600."

Price:
$6.50
Catalog #:
MERCK PS
"Don and Roel Funcken have been releasing music for the last half decade plus, under such monikers as 'Funckarma,' 'Cenik' and 'Quench.' They have also released material on labels from across the globe including Skam, Isophlux, DUB, U-cover, Delikatessen, and Warp's Arcola imprint under their latest incarnation 'Cane.' Their musical output has been rather impressive and equally as heartfelt and original. The Funcken brothers now land at Merck for a moment to bring you a 12" sampler from their full album
Punctuated
, that was released previously on n5MD on CD. It shows Quench at their darkest and cruelest. Intense, yet subtle melodies, unpredictable bass-work, dub influences and broken hip-hop-inspired drum action rounds out this solid release from Holland's Funcken brothers."

"Merck is proud to present the debut 12" vinyl from Landau, featuring tracks from
Thepicompromise
. Six hand picked gems from the CD, that represent several years of labor by a conglomerate of indefinite size. This network, formed by a small core of musical minds, has developed a method of composition by a contingent permutation system. The result is a balance of acoustic intimation and electronic craftsmanship that seamlessly pays proper homage to a chronologically diverse spectrum of musical styles. Landau brings the fruits of hearty negotiation between lush melodies and gritty hip hop beats to this truly 'epic' release."
