MG77 003EP
"The latest release from central Europe's prime dubstep/grime imprint MG77 is the blistering debut 12" from Hamburg's finest, Phokus; a producer who cut his teeth on the burgeoning drum 'n bass scene before discovering grime and dubstep and seeing his true calling. It's obvious from the first squelch of synthesizer that the kid has styles unmatched in the scene -- this is heavy hitting music, designed for maximum impact and with hooks that are destined to stay in your head for far too long. Phokus is joined on these two destructive tracks by Ruff Sqwad veterans Dirty Danger and Tinchy Stryder who spit the most dangerous rhymes we've heard for a long time. Tinchy's cut 'Dem All Shot' is a neck-grabbing ride into South London's underbelly, with all the attitude you'd expect to come with it. Carried by Phokus' killer icy-cold production, this is a tune guaranteed to tear up dancefloors from Brixton to Berlin and beyond. Flip over for the real sickness though, an anthem to Dirty Danger himself as he asserts to nay-sayers that they shouldn't call him anything but 'Danger' -- as if we'd dare? Destined to be a scene anthem, this rounds up a perfect 12", and one of the heaviest debuts we've heard in years."

MILANESE
Title:
Peggy Flynn/So Malleable Remixes
Label:
MG 77 (SWITZERLAND)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
MG77 004EP
"After a wicked Planet Mu album, Milanese crushes the dancefloor on Frederic Stader's MG77 label. Employing a 4/4 steppers grimey dub framework, Milanese throws down one of his strongest tracks yet. One side of 4/4 grime with a severe electronic edge, and one side of broken grime variations -- this is the perfect accompaniment to any of the tougher 'Various' productions or any of MG77's rudeboy anthems. Essential."

Title:
Empiyah EP
Label:
MG 77 (SWITZERLAND)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
MG77 005EP
"This is the most upfront dubstep tune to date from Berlin's MG77 crew -- 'Empiyah' rocks the by now obligatory seismic bass shake -- and with the label's connection to the mighty dubplates and mastering cutting rooms, you can pack it straight to the playing out box safe in the knowledge the music has been realized to perfection. 'Founder' employs a bassline that's wobblier and more fluid, but the predominant mood is dubwise and suitably the 12" as a whole benefits. 'Phob' seems to siphon out some dub elements for a more broken steppers feel -- this is the right kind of darkside tune for the 2007 summer of bass."

ZOMBY/DARKSTAR
Title:
Memories RMX/Saytar
Label:
MG 77 (SWITZERLAND)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
MG77 006EP
"Another killer from the MG77 crew -- this one's been getting lots of attention on the forums and, by the evidence of the debut 12" from Darkstar, looks set to become a bit of a club staple. Darkstar's remix of Zomby's 'Memories' spreads out on the A-side with another Various Production-style reworking of midnight dub into a widescreen soundtrack augmented by a mighty wobbly bassline and an evocative riff Ennio Morricone would be proud of. Brilliant stuff. 'Saytar' on the flipside is more breezy and tweaked for a more primal dancefloor experience -- it's hard to get away from those Various comparisons because the sound palette here is so varied, but there's a self-reflective quality to these tracks that almost makes you forget that the bassline is heavy enough to uproot most buildings. 'Saytar' is one of those anthemic killers that should have you hooked regardless of just how deep into the whole dubstep thing you've ventured -- followers of the aforementioned Various Production should check this out without delay." --Boomkat
