Two knob-turning buddies team up for solid sounds: Hamburg-based Marco Niemerski and Stephan Lorenz -- 2/3 of Miraumusik and... Arp Aubert. Blackbirds chirp, squirrels growl, bears prance around the bass' fall-trap. Musically drawn to track and club sounds, at times dark, at times playful, but always with utmost resolution. Fellow passenger on the bandwagon is singer/songwriter Jan Gazarra, who contributes lyrics and vocals in the title track. He dedicates himself to completing the sequel to his solo album, which appeared in 2002 at Ladomat, prancing the electronic stage with the Stoned Eagles disguised as a cat, or commanding the guitar in recordings with the band Black Star.

This is the debut album from both the Tensnake co-run label Mirau and Iron Curtis. Three years and a string of releases on Retreat, Kolour and Mule Electronic, remixes for Jacob Korn, Ripperton and Mano Le Tough and a move to Berlin later, Johannes Paluka alias Iron Curtis has matured enough as a producer to take on the heavy burden of a "house music" album. Of course, the man has earned his four-to-the-floor stripes navigation between deep house and soulful techno leanings, but he has also managed to steer clear of genre silt. Thus, the task of creating a coherent, yet amusing album without blinkers is passed with distinction here. Soft Wide Waist Band has it roots firmly planted. It streaks all the places and spaces in the past, present and future: the basic knowledge of engineering skills honed in New York, Chicago and Detroit left its traces here as much as a touch of British freewheeling mixed with the flow and indie poetry of a German country boy who has heard of electronic pop music before (guess who sang all those lovely vocal bits on the album?). While tracks like "Inner Glow" romanticize a road trip on a Midwest interstate and "Horses" offers a ride for DJs like James Holden and Dixon alike, you will meet pieces like "The Sun" that tickles the soul boy and girl in all of us, wonky, slow-motion masterpieces ("Planetarium") or the dreamy pop beat of the album's eponym. Whatever his secret is in wandering the narrow path between the norm and its deviation, Iron Curtis seems to be able to do it blindfolded. Includes mp3 download.

Tensnake is the solo project of Marco Niemerski (also of Arp Aubert). While crowning the Disco Queen, he minimizes his music into glamour and dance through straightforward beatwork suspended by synthetic planes. The resulting effect easily surpasses surrogate nostalgia involving legendary underground car parks and laser hysteria in a place called Rimini. Contains a remix of the clap-happy "Around the House" by Audision (Niko Tzoukmanis and Tobias Schmidt).

The artist formerly known as "wildjamin" started his career by producing ambient in the early nineties. In 1996, his focus turned to house/minimal dance music -- inspired by the vivid Frankfurt (underground/house) scene. When he moved to Hamburg in 1999 a series of fine minimalistic records were released on labels like Perlon, Kompakt, Force Tracks, Festplatten. 2002 saw his first album: With Compliments followed by Wie es sein wollte in 2003. Demain is bouncing, groovy minimal tech-house from a perfectionist master.

"It's 11 a.m.: he is blind drunk, as usual. Same as every morning, I stand at his bed, which has begun to resemble an ashtray. The bedroom is a maze of decrepit synthesizers, the floor a tapestry of loose keys and cables mingled with food scraps, yellowed porn and empty Prosecco cans. Erobique alias Carsten Meyer was born in 1972 in tranquil Muensterland and has been making music since he was 8. His last release was 10 years ago. In the meantime, he has worked with and for artists like Daniel Wang, Justus K�hnke, Discokaine or Andreas Dorau. But not even International Pony, the universally admired super-group he started with DJ Koze and Cosmic DJ, was powerful enough to break the steady cycle of drinking, gluttony and compulsive masturbation. Meyer is sluggish. He eyes me venomously from behind puffy lids. 'Leave him alone with my DJ shit,' I make out from his inebriate slur. All I had wanted was to bring around the test-pressing of his new 12", Endorphinmachine. Squeezing the entire, magnificent 12 minutes of these two tracks ('Endorphinmachine'/'Arf Patzo') out of him seemed at times a Sisyphean task. Disconnected telephones, nocturnal taxi odysseys across entire states, physical assaults and broken joints were enough to push even me closer to the quagmire of self-abandonment than to my ultimate goal of finally bringing out a new Erobique maxi. The gleam has almost gone from Carsten Meyer's eyes. He is one of the best and most dangerous live entertainers in disco. It is his infallibility, but also his unpredictability that make people murmur the word 'legend' behind his back. If only they could see him lying here! I hand him his test-pressing and ask in leaving if there is anything I can do for him. 'Yes,' he retorts irritably: 'write in the blurb that I am the most ambitious of them all!' 'The most ambitious!! Of all!!!' his ranting echoes from the bedroom, down the hallway."

Mirau presents tracks by Erobique and Alexander Polzin. "Warmer Bruder": The jeep's motor is already purring as Erobique switches on the car radio. He spins the tires, pushing up a cloud of dust. The cowbells clatter on the back seat as yet another warm synth wave washes the jeep up to the nearest club. "Fr�chtchen": an omnipresent kick marches throughout the tenacious, mounting mass of melody textures and harmony particles. "Fr�chtchen" is a ship without a sail, without a motor.
