Mule Musiq pool their strengths to release an exclusive mix CD by the Swedish heartbreaker Sebastian Mullaert, best known as one-half of the staggering duo Minilogue, called Move The Wave To Your Heart. In order to support all the needy people of Japan that suffered in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake on March 11, 2011, all earnings from the sale of this record will be donated to Japan's Red Cross Society earthquake fund. Sebastian Mullaert aka Minilogue mixed an 11-track strong charity journey towards the widely-ramified Mule Musiq opus, that travels heartfelt from lively African-influenced house right into the cold, dubby heart of a German techno club. His journey starts tribal with the kalimba percussion-driven house deepness of "Kalimba Dance," produced by Da Capo from South Africa, with the bass-heavy "Japan Japon" rhythm voyage of Mr. Raoul K, the man from the Ivory Coast that lives deep in the north of Germany. One of his brothers in spirit is Culoe De Song, who subsequently opens Minilogue's mix with his emotional house trip "Ambush" towards an atmosphere that slowly grows from a summer-like outdoor party mood into a sweaty, compact club feeling. The first real step into the midnight arena is "Capital City," a killer track by South Africa's Moodswing that perfectly migrates after six breathless minutes into "Shades Of Grey," a cool funk techno excursion by KAB & Mac. From that moment on, Minilogue digs deep in the shallows of the Mule Musiq catalog to find some of his solo and some of his Minilogue tracks like "Älva," "Jakata A," and "Hundraelva" beside arrangements like the touching "The Search And The Breaks." As any DJ with the right feeling for a complete musical trip, Sebastian Mulleart fades out his mix with his airy 12-minute remix of "Ocean Wave," originally produced by Kuniyuki Takahashi aka Koss. "Finally, his first long-awaited full album Echo Euphoria is released from the label Mule Electronic. Liner notes Tobias Thomas discuss the coalition between techno, the most important musical revolution of the late 20th century, the 'last' worldwide youth movement which unified all diversities, at least for one short moment in time, the genre, which changed dance and popmusic, social behaviours, attitudes and nightlife forever -- and then dub, the old mothership of all kinds of electronic (dance) music, the cradle which gave birth to the whole idea of remix culture, the echo chamber of history. These two have always been linked, influenced and enriched each other. Naturally the younger one took more from the older, but the sounds and rhythms of techno and electronic music also left their traces in todays dub music vice versa, as well as in reggae, r'n'b and hiphop. It is all a give and take, a neverending circle. One of the most famous examples bringing dub and techno together as never heard before, were the productions of the legendary Berlin based duo Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, better known as Basic Channel or Rhythm & Sound. In the mid-nineties they invented a unique style of repetitive, minimal but massive techno music, which stood deep in the tradition of the dub technique: bass, delays, effects, a nearly spiritual atmosphere. On Dublee -- as to many others as well -- Basic Channel had a very strong and important impact, which made him think for the first time of starting his own productions. Also the groundbreaking works of British innovators like Massive Attack or Adrian Sherwoods On-U-Sound label found their way into Dublees heart and soul and finally his music. Being a young guy who did not like the idea of going out to dark and smoke-filled clubs, he developed a more introspective, tender and fragile sound out of his personal references, which followed closely the European and American school of minimal techno and house. If you listen to Dublee's sweet melodies and reduced rhythm patterns, it might remind you of people like Jan Jelinek, Thomas Fehlmann, Vladislav Delay or Akufen. So it was no surprise that one of his first releases found its way on part two of the highly recommended compilation series Elektronische Musik Interkontinental, put together by the superb Traum label from Cologne, while another one was picked by well known Japanese imprint progressive form. As always you'll find the beauty of Dublee in details. Dub and techno are finally only tiny little memories floating in the background, the structures of deep house and minimal electronica simply deliver the skeleton for a genuine idea of emotional, soulful, modern and mature moments of music. As if the original meaning of his alias Dublee had given the matrix for it: by taking a worthless tool and refining it with precious metals, what you get is nothing less than pure jewelry."

"Koss is based in Sapporo. Started his musical activities in 1985. Being significantly impacted by German progressive and noise, the brothers' unit 'DRP' was formed. The style of its live performance at that time produced hardcore sound with the fusion of metal percussion, noise and electro. In the late '80s to the early '90s, its works released from major labels in Europe that electro music was popular such as Body record, Antler Subway records, KK records and so on. Since the middle of '90s, he has performed live frequently under some names and started his musical activities as the unit 'Mask' presenting the fusion of native musical factor that world music has got and electro. He also started the production of the tunes absorbed acoustic sound such as percussion, piano and so on that he plays in his own person. Then, he took part in the unit of Haruomi Hosono (a.k.a Yellow Magic Orchestra member) as percussionist at the big event 'Rainbow 2000 Japan' in 1998. Furthermore, he started producing his works under his field recordings. In 2000, his first album Ring under the name 'Koss' was released. This epic downbeat album including the tunes extended to 40 minutes was highly appreciated by many artists including Larry Heard and Plaid and also Media. His tunes are experimental yet to musical and establish his vision of the world on a constant basis at the high level. In 2001, by taking part in the festival 'Big Chill' in Naxos, Greece he started his live performance with his laptop energetically and even now the tunes of Koss have been mutating and evolving. The album Live Ring released in 2002 that he absorbed the element of dub differed from his original tune 'Ring' raised his visibility."

"Microesfera is an electronic duo formed by Ramiro Larrain and Alejandro Amo since 1997. The year 2005 was the year Mule Electronic, a Tokyo-based label supported by the distribution of Kompakt, released its first compilation. Featuring some of the most talented Japanese artists and newcomers from around the world, this year's compilation release includes combining a selection of this past year's single releases and other tracks exclusively made for this compilation. Dublee, the first artist to feature a release from Mule Electronic, is a young and popular act of the Japanese minimal/click house scene. Kuniyuki, based in Sapporo, released a deep house classic called "Precious Hall," and also was featured on Luciano's mix CD. He wrote the famous track "Earth Beats," which was heavily played by DJs all over the world, and was also asked by Hosono Haruomi of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, to perform as their percussionist. He also features here under his ambient alias, Koss. Also included is Code E, one of the pioneers of the Japanese techno scene who formerly released hits on R&S, Microesfera, a newcomer from Argentina, Pan/Tone who has had a few releases on Sender and other labels, and Wechsel Garland, a self-unit formed by Jorg Follert, who is also famous for his releases from Karaoke Kalk under the name Wunder. Dial-head Lawrence has a remix on here, and other artists include: Saiko Tsukamoto, Kosuke Anamizu, Metaboman, Karafuto and Thomas Fehlmann.

This is the first full-length release from Lawrence on the Mule Electronic label presenting exclusive tracks and remixes from the artist's past and future. One of the most popular artists of the minimal house scene, Lawrence mostly releases new titles from his own label Dial, and has also released music from labels such as Nova Mute, Kompakt, Ladomat, and Ghostly International. His music is a combination of beautiful melodies and emotional beats, a close resemblance to Theo Parrish and Larry Heard. He also has a side project Sten which is more dance floor friendly. Now he brings his famous melodies to Mule. As Thomas Fehlmann remarks on Lawrence: "All the beats, basslines or chords are chosen for the right reasons, without add-ons or temporary flavor, and there's no waste. They are charged with natural emotion and give you direct access to Lawrence's view of the world -- as every good work of art is able to do. This is Terre Thaemlitz's first full-length release for the Mule Electronic label. He is currently based in Japan, after having had an extensive career in New York. He is an award-winning multi-media producer, writer, public speaker, educator, audio remixer, DJ and owner of the Comatonse Recordings record label. Combining themes of identity politics with an ongoing critique of the socio-economics of commercial media production, his production styles include electroacoustic computer music, club-oriented deep house, digital jazz, ambient and computer composed neo-expressionist piano solos. He has also started his own label, released on labels such as Mille Plateaux and Daisyworld Discs (ex-Yellow Magic Orchestra member, Hosono Haruomi). This is the debut release by the newly formed duo of Tsukamoto Saiko (aka Museum of Plate) and Kuniyuki Takahashi, the main man for the ambient project, Koss and deep house project Kuniyuki. They now form a new unit, Saikoss. Saiko has been featured as a pianist for many different artists and releases. The combination of his smooth, Oriental-styled piano and Takahashi's talented skills with melody, have created a powerful soundtrack collection. In October of 2006, Saikoss performed their first live gig at the Sonar Festival in Tokyo. Originally released by Mule Electronic in 2006, now distributed outside of Japan for the first time. Kuniyuki Takahashi (aka Koss) is a producer and sound designer from Sapporo, Japan. In contrast to his deep house projects released under his natural name, Koss seeks to musically embody ambience and thematic continuity: each track must have one theme and 4 ways to express that theme. With synths that hover in space, gently zig-zagging strings and small clicking beats that bounce against organic tribal percussion, this meditative recording charts the course to some unknown destination in the mind. Listeners to Koss' second full-length release on Mule Electronic will be able to feel influences from some of Koss' favorite artists: Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno and Harold Budd. If all four tracks on the album are played simultaneously, another song will be instantly created, which is another strange feature of this album... four worlds converging as one, indeed. This album is much treasured by Koss' peers, and has received high praise from Carsten Nicolai.

Hamburg-based Dial co-owner Lawrence provides a beautiful new track as well as rising stars Guido Schneider and Florian Schmeiser aka Glowing Glisses. Here's a small taste of Tobias Schmidt's Audision project, who will release their first album on Mule Electronic. It was a big year for Swiss-based Alex Attias -- his release on Planet E was unforgettable. Another big newcomer was Spain's Tony Lionni, who launched on France's Versatile and just dropped his new 12" featured here. My Favorite Things ends with two stormers: the debut single from Phonica Records' Dan Foat has been gracing the decks of Âme and Paul Woolford, amongst others, and then the big finale: Mule's biggest track of 2007, Minilogue's "Ghost." This is the debut collaborative release from IMPS, a collaboration between Malmö's Minilogue and two jazz musicians from Melbourne, Australia. The songs were recorded during a two-week long improvisation/jam session where everything was recorded live (with some post-production) in an attempt to capture the feeling of real-time, actively performed acoustic instruments mixed with electronic craziness (also captured live). The result is a display of funk-fuelled jazz that shows how much can be done with open minds and shitloads of toys in a big studio. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson came from opposing backgrounds. Sebastian was trained as a classical musician playing the organ, piano and the violin, while Marcus lived on a diet of Kraftwerk and Front 242. They met at a party and decided to combine Sebastian's musician's perspective with Marcus' DJ skills from the Swedish scene. After achieving some success as Son Kite and Trimatic, Marcus and Sebastian are now Minilogue -- an animalistic music concept without the boundaries of genres. Through the years, their music has expanded and moved through a variety of sounds, appealing across the board of electronic music. They make music that is built for peak-time dancefloors as well as for laid-back listening, producing a sound that is industrial, vivid and continually provocative. To categorize IMPS would be blasphemous; however, Popmatter effectively reviewed their album as being "slowed-down techno grooves provid(ing) a firm, dubby foundation for blissful Rhodes melodies and earthy double bass." Simply titled Remixed, this collection brings together a group of today's most influential electronic music producers, joined together by the beautiful musicianship of Bring Out The Imps. Legendary producer Thomas Fehlmann hits things off with a re-edit, hitting all the right buttons with a psychedelic depth that is reminiscent of his work with The Orb. Strategy (Community Library, Orac, Dreck) take a very jazzy, downtempo approach on "Get A Grip," and Move D -- one of today's most buzzed-about house producers -- keeps his reputation for impeccable, loop-drenched groove by bumping up the BPM a bit and adding a scent of Detroit's deep-house vibe. Isolée makes a rare appearance in his signature swinging flow with a playfully rhythmic remix. Jan Jelinek is a man of mood and atmospheric grace, creating a highlight remix reminiscent of the work from Gas, which eases and builds along in delightful loops of saxophone and a thudding undertone which gives an organic breath to the music. The album is kicked off by Koss' "Voyage," which is aesthetic and beautiful, followed by Lawrence's "Floating," which is transient and melancholic. "Krakow 6" from Tobias Freund's NSI is reminiscent of John Cage or Morton Feldman. After you listen to producer Glitterbug's track, you will fall in love with his warm and cinematic sound. Probably the highlight of this album is Terre Thaemlitz's remix of John Cage: it's very beautiful and musical. Next, Japan's Fumiya Tanaka's freestyle project Individual Orchestra features a rare type of ambient music. There's some trippy stuff from Sebastian Mullaert, classical ambient from Italian producer Donato Dozzy and two Lawrence tracks, because the label couldn't decide which one was more beautiful. Seltene Erden is Kassem Mosse's new project, and it is fresh, downtempo stuff, reminiscent of Global Communication or Larry Heard. Lastly is Swedish experimental producer Porn Sword Tobacco with an absolutely perfect ending.

If you want to write an explicit story about the life of the American producer, label owner, and DJ Edward McKeithen aka DJ Jus-Ed, you will need much more then just one leaf of white paper. At the tender age of 6, he was backing up his grandparents in a jazz duo called Tomi & Eddy, touring from the East to the West coast of the United States as a drummer. Later, he studied percussion instruments for some time at the University of Bridgeport at the young age of 10. His main influences around that period were soul preacher James Brown, jazz drummer Buddy Rich, and a while later, jazz-rock legends Chicago and the sensitive R&B crooner Luther Vandross. In 1982, he embarked on his DJ career, called himself DJ Jus-Ed and played the freestyle rhythms of the times from harsh funk to early house and rough R&B. Due to several intricacies of life that emerge when you party strong, DJ Jus-Ed already retired on New Years' Day of 1985, caused by a combination of substance abuse and other life-threatening factors. After more then fifteen years of doing music on his own, in 2001 he finally reappeared as a producer and DJ with an adventurous, energetic and spiritual style of quality house music that is reminiscent of deep heroes such as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, or Omar-S. Besides the revitalization of his own DJ career and work as an artist, he also launched his own label Underground Quality in 2005, a base for truly original deep house with an edge that doesn't follow any business plan -- just the beat of DJ Jus-Ed's heart and soul. After numerous 12"s and two highly-acclaimed albums on Underground Quality, he now releases his third album Vision Dance on Mule Electronic. As usual for the passionate part-time landscape gardener from Bridgeport, Connecticut, all of his ten arrangements are uncorrupted house gems that avoid heavy make-up in order to give classic house music lovers some undiluted bass pleasure. This time, Jus-Ed has eschewed his customary vocals, producing only instrumental tracks that are kicking a blend of tough, syncopated percussions and ethereal, melodic synth-lines that spread pure dance energy. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson aka Minilogue and Kuniyuki Takahashi aka Koss present a very special joint collaboration. Kuniyuki's friend Toshiya Kawasaki founded in Tokyo his label Mule Musiq only because he wanted to release Kuniyuki's music in order to spread the message that he is one of the most heartfelt contemporary electronic soul musicians in Japan. That was in 2005, and since then, Mule Musiq has given birth to many different partner labels, and built up a multicolored artist family that also consists of the Swedish duo Minilogue. Minilogue member Sebastian Mullaert feels particularly at home in this warm-hearted clan and has released all his solo works so far in the Far East. The two Swedish boys traveled to Tokyo to meet label head honcho Toshiya and perform and share their creative output with him and Japan. Here they met a lot of Toshiya's friends and among them was also Kuniyuki. Some months later in November 2010, Kuniyuki traveled to Europe for a small tour and the Minilogue guys decided to invite their new buddy to their cozy hometown Malmø to share some more music and creative output with the producer and DJ from Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. The result of these sorcerous moments now sees the light of the day with a mostly slow, heartfelt album called The Möllan Sessions -- a record that is made for people who like to fill the room between the notes with their own imagination. Between the sounds of a Rhodes, a Roland TR-808, a Roland SH-101, a Moog Voyager, a Nord lead keyboard, drums, congas, laptops, and lots of other music sources, Minilogue and Koss left enough space for the listeners' individual emotions.
