Artist: DUBLEE
Title: Echo Euphoria
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 001CD
"Finally, his first long-awaited full album Echo Euphoria is released from the label Mule Electronic. Liner notes Tobias Thomas discuss the coalition between techno, the most important musical revolution of the late 20th century, the 'last' worldwide youth movement which unified all diversities, at least for one short moment in time, the genre, which changed dance and popmusic, social behaviours, attitudes and nightlife forever -- and then dub, the old mothership of all kinds of electronic (dance) music, the cradle which gave birth to the whole idea of remix culture, the echo chamber of history. These two have always been linked, influenced and enriched each other. Naturally the younger one took more from the older, but the sounds and rhythms of techno and electronic music also left their traces in todays dub music vice versa, as well as in reggae, r'n'b and hiphop. It is all a give and take, a neverending circle. One of the most famous examples bringing dub and techno together as never heard before, were the productions of the legendary Berlin based duo Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, better known as Basic Channel or Rhythm & Sound. In the mid-nineties they invented a unique style of repetitive, minimal but massive techno music, which stood deep in the tradition of the dub technique: bass, delays, effects, a nearly spiritual atmosphere. On Dublee -- as to many others as well -- Basic Channel had a very strong and important impact, which made him think for the first time of starting his own productions. Also the groundbreaking works of British innovators like Massive Attack or Adrian Sherwoods On-U-Sound label found their way into Dublees heart and soul and finally his music. Being a young guy who did not like the idea of going out to dark and smoke-filled clubs, he developed a more introspective, tender and fragile sound out of his personal references, which followed closely the European and American school of minimal techno and house. If you listen to Dublee's sweet melodies and reduced rhythm patterns, it might remind you of people like Jan Jelinek, Thomas Fehlmann, Vladislav Delay or Akufen. So it was no surprise that one of his first releases found its way on part two of the highly recommended compilation series Elektronische Musik Interkontinental, put together by the superb Traum label from Cologne, while another one was picked by well known Japanese imprint progressive form. As always you'll find the beauty of Dublee in details. Dub and techno are finally only tiny little memories floating in the background, the structures of deep house and minimal electronica simply deliver the skeleton for a genuine idea of emotional, soulful, modern and mature moments of music. As if the original meaning of his alias Dublee had given the matrix for it: by taking a worthless tool and refining it with precious metals, what you get is nothing less than pure jewelry."

Title: Lowlights From The Past and Future
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 006CD
This is the first full-length release from Lawrence on the Mule Electronic label presenting exclusive tracks and remixes from the artist's past and future. One of the most popular artists of the minimal house scene, Lawrence mostly releases new titles from his own label Dial, and has also released music from labels such as Nova Mute, Kompakt, Ladomat, and Ghostly International. His music is a combination of beautiful melodies and emotional beats, a close resemblance to Theo Parrish and Larry Heard. He also has a side project Sten which is more dance floor friendly. Now he brings his famous melodies to Mule. As Thomas Fehlmann remarks on Lawrence: "All the beats, basslines or chords are chosen for the right reasons, without add-ons or temporary flavor, and there's no waste. They are charged with natural emotion and give you direct access to Lawrence's view of the world -- as every good work of art is able to do. His ability to channel and compress his feelings and impressions into this magic 5 minutes of clarity, insight and lust is comforting. Leaving always enough room to explore and look around that next corner." His releases thus far have been journeys between deepness and melancholy, with sometimes a spark of humor or a drift into darkness to mark its way. But Lawrence's music is not totally untouchable -- concrete links to different styles such as Detroitish techno and singer/songwriter ballads appear. With Lowlights From The Past and Future he returns more and more to an organic dancefloor minimal deephouse with a touch of Detroit feeling. This is the new Lawrence.

Catalog #: MULE 007CD
This is Terre Thaemlitz's first full-length release for the Mule Electronic label. He is currently based in Japan, after having had an extensive career in New York. He is an award-winning multi-media producer, writer, public speaker, educator, audio remixer, DJ and owner of the Comatonse Recordings record label. Combining themes of identity politics with an ongoing critique of the socio-economics of commercial media production, his production styles include electroacoustic computer music, club-oriented deep house, digital jazz, ambient and computer composed neo-expressionist piano solos. He is a resident DJ at Club Module in Tokyo, and his writings on music and culture have been published internationally. He is the foremost pioneer in what has been termed "new ambient" and he has released music under the names DJ Sprinkles, Chugga, G.R.R.L, Social Material, Teriko & Terre's Neu Wuss Fusion. He has also started his own label, released on labels such as Mille Plateaux and Daisyworld Discs (ex-Yellow Magic Orchestra member, Hosono Haruomi). His creativity and highly politicized stance in the music scene has led to many followers of his music. This album best represents Terre Thaemlitz's deeper-than-deep house style. Using his great gift for beautiful ambient music, he makes an album that is both dancefloor friendly and a great home-listening album.

Artist: PAN/TONE
Title: Thrill Ho
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: MULE 008EP
"Hailing from the mean streets of Toronto, Canada, Shelbono del Monte has been electrifying the electronic dance community with his gritty bassline-signatured productions and his sexy suave performances for nearly a decade. Never a dry moment with Pan/Tone's live performances for he is a freak when he finds his way on stage with bottle in hand. He sets the tempo and aims to discover your moods for the moment only to have you rediscover your own true passion for music. He was sent to you only to serve one purpose.... to make you shake that thang!. Ok, ok... let's get serious for a moment. All these words do not reflect the nature of this artist known as Pan/Tone. He only wishes to reserve the rights to an appeal if there has been any wrong doing and/or disapproval with any of the contained writings you see before you. Come see and hear Pan/Tone for yourself and form your own opinions and then we can all live in harmony."

Artist: INTERNATIONAL PONY
Title: Mit Dir Sind Wir Vier
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 009CD
International Pony, the gorgeous global supergroup from Hamburg comprising Cosmic DJ, Erobique and DJ Koze finally release their second album, after a 4-year long hiatus! Mit Dir Sind Wir Vier contains 12 new tracks and two bonus tracks and one video -- each finer, more exciting and more uplifting than the last. This album shows International Pony radiating a consummate yet juvenile charm that comes over as refreshing, without seeming dumb. And with this new record, we can confidently short list them with Sly Stone, Air and The Philosopher's Stone: future funk! Slow soul numbers avoid all stereotypes while simultaneously using all the tricks in the musical book to cast its spell -- with that uplifting Pony feeling. Whereas their first album We Love Music cross-referenced all the biggest pop styles (hip-hop, house, techno, funk, etc.), this release concentrates all the best Pony moments into a highly-refined sound. The skippiness in the beat, the wonderful lightness of foot (even in the most melancholic moments), the sometimes weird and radiant vocals from Cosmic DJ, the famously gnarly French electronica of DJ Koze, the high pop skills and manifold instrumental capabilities of Erobique -- all melts together here into a consummate, transcendent work of art. Open your arms wide.

Title: Four Worlds Converge As One
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 010CD
Originally released by Mule Electronic in 2006, now distributed outside of Japan for the first time. Kuniyuki Takahashi (aka Koss) is a producer and sound designer from Sapporo, Japan. In contrast to his deep house projects released under his natural name, Koss seeks to musically embody ambience and thematic continuity: each track must have one theme and 4 ways to express that theme. With synths that hover in space, gently zig-zagging strings and small clicking beats that bounce against organic tribal percussion, this meditative recording charts the course to some unknown destination in the mind. Listeners to Koss' second full-length release on Mule Electronic will be able to feel influences from some of Koss' favorite artists: Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno and Harold Budd. If all four tracks on the album are played simultaneously, another song will be instantly created, which is another strange feature of this album... four worlds converging as one, indeed. This album is much treasured by Koss' peers, and has received high praise from Carsten Nicolai.

Title: My Favorite Things
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 011CD
Mule Electronic's second label compilation features some new artists and regular Mule electronic acts. The compilation starts off with a lovely slow track from DJ Koze's alias, Adolf Noise, and the single from Saporro-based ambient master Koss is deep and atmospheric, as always. Hamburg-based Dial co-owner Lawrence provides a beautiful new track as well as rising stars Guido Schneider and Florian Schmeiser aka Glowing Glisses. Also check out a big track from last year: Loco Dice's remix of Terre Thaemlitz aka Social Material. Here's a small taste of Tobias Schmidt's Audision project, who will release their first album on Mule Electronic. It was a big year for Swiss-based Alex Attias -- his release on Planet E was unforgettable. Another big newcomer was Spain's Tony Lionni, who launched on France's Versatile and just dropped his new 12" featured here. My Favorite Things ends with two stormers: the debut single from Phonica Records' Dan Foat has been gracing the decks of Âme and Paul Woolford, amongst others, and then the big finale: Mule's biggest track of 2007, Minilogue's "Ghost." The 12" version includes an exclusive remix by Âme of an Echologist track.

Artist: IMPS
Title: Bring Out The Imps
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MULE 012CD
This is the debut collaborative release from IMPS, a collaboration between Malmö's Minilogue and two jazz musicians from Melbourne, Australia. The songs were recorded during a two-week long improvisation/jam session where everything was recorded live (with some post-production) in an attempt to capture the feeling of real-time, actively performed acoustic instruments mixed with electronic craziness (also captured live). The result is a display of funk-fuelled jazz that shows how much can be done with open minds and shitloads of toys in a big studio. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson came from opposing backgrounds. Sebastian was trained as a classical musician playing the organ, piano and the violin, while Marcus lived on a diet of Kraftwerk and Front 242. They met at a party and decided to combine Sebastian's musician's perspective with Marcus' DJ skills from the Swedish scene. After achieving some success as Son Kite and Trimatic, Marcus and Sebastian are now Minilogue -- an animalistic music concept without the boundaries of genres. Through the years, their music has expanded and moved through a variety of sounds, appealing across the board of electronic music. They make music that is built for peak-time dancefloors as well as for laid-back listening, producing a sound that is industrial, vivid and continually provocative. IMPS are: Ian Chaplin (soprano sax, Rhodes, drums & percussion); Philip Rex (double bass, electric bass, guitar, drum machines); Sebastian Mullaert (viola, Moog, Voyager, Rhodes, synths, tape delay, tweak master, computer programming & samplers, post production); Marcus Henriksson (drum machine, computer programming & samplers, post production).

Artist: LAWRENCE
Title: Lowlights From The Past
Label: MULE ELECTRONIC (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: MULE 030EP
"Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence/Sten launched the Dial label in 2000 together with his flat mate and DJ friend Carsten Jost. To release their own stuff and the music of techno visionaries such as Pantha du Prince, Pawel (aka Turner), Efdemin and many others, the Dial crew found a distribution and friendship with Cologne's Kompakt universe. The music of Lawrence has often been described as something visual, imaginary, like a transfigured painting of all tones of grey, showing disturbing plants growing into any directions. But just have a look at the cover artwork of Friedrich Ploch, Sandra Thomsen and Peter M. Kersten himself and you even find the link. His debut album on Dial/Ladomat (2002) and the 12"s for Kompakt, Ladomat and Dial seem like a deep journey between, deepness and melancholy, sometimes a spark of humor or a drift into darkness mark its way. But Peter Kersten's music is not totally untouchable, concrete links to different styles as Detroitish techno, singer songwriters and E-music appear. And in the former present he returns more and more to the dancefloor- organic minimal deephouse with a touch of Detroit feeling is the new Lawrence."
