Artist: GREEN VELVET
Title: Constant Chaos
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 003CD
Also known as Cajmere (aka Curtis Jones), Green Velvet is the freakiest house producer out of Chicago in the modern era. Combining the ethics of acid reverie, minimal house & a slurred sense of dislocation (voice-over tracks about little green men, life as a water molecule, etc.), there's nothing else quite like it. This is his first full length album on the Belgium Music Man label.

Artist: GREEN VELVET
Title: The Nineties
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 005CD
"Taking various leaves from such artists as Sly Stone, Grace Jones and David Bowie, Green Velvet entered the live arena in 1994, where his outrageous green wig and headphone diatribe drawl brought his unique style to a new audience under the official banner of house music's No. 1 nutter. Whilst the world's dancefloors and festivals were slipping into something Velvety, Curtis Jones was releasing blistering techno/house/nu-wave hybrid records that seemed to constantly up the ante: 'Flash', 'Destination Unknown', 'Land of The Lost', 'The Stalker' and 'Leave My Body' threw the floor into chaos. The Nineties (1993-1999) is a full-flash snapshot of one of the most original and inspirational dance music artists to emerge from planet Earth." Released 1999. The American-based faux indie F111 label has recently released a CD compilation entitled Green Velvet which has a similar track listing to this one (10 of 12 tracks are duplicated), but when did buying American ever make you feel good about the world?

Artist: MILLS, JEFF
Title: Life Like: Axis Compilation Vol. 2
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 007CD
"Jeff Mills needs no introduction. This second Axis compilation is called Lifelike, which we're proud to present on Music Man. Lifelike is referring to the possibility of something that is almost human or something that reminds us of life. The tracklisting is as diverse as Jeff Mills could make it, including tracks in many different tempos, styles and texture. The titles that make up this album are the compositions that Jeff Mills has made in the past 10 years which possess the best arrangement and/or most distinctive character. Like life, no one-second is the same, the make-up of the tracklisting refers to this fact. Through compiling 14 selected compositions from the Axis Records, Purpose Maker and Tomorrow catalogue (as well as previous unreleased material), it is an attempt to display the soul of what Jeff Mills does and what has been created."

Title: Fuse Presents Hell
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 010CD
"Following last year's first Fuse mix CD by the one and only Dave Clarke comes Munich's Helmut Geier aka Hell with a techno/electro/disco/synth/house fusion that is utterly unique, totally transfixing and 100% HELL. Featuring Donna Summer, Maurizio, Carl Craig's 69, Sparks, Phuture, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Dopplereffekt, Liaisons Dangereuses, Todd Terry (Orange Lemon), Speedy J, Foremost Poets and fellow International DJ Gigolo 'DJ Naughty', Hell's mix is as diverse as it is funky and futuristic. Welcome to the new wave...welcome to Hell. Hell has, alongside Sven Vath, become one of Germany's most respected DJs and producers. From initial forays into punk in the late 70's and early electronic synth pop, Hell's journey into techno is as diverse as his Fuse mix. Coming to international notice in 1992 with his classic 'My Definition of House Music' 12" he then went on to release two well received albums on Disko B ?- Geteert & Gefedert (1994) and Munich Machine (1998 which even featured a cover of Barry Manilow's 'Copacabana'!). Now running and recording for his own International DJ Gigolos label Hell's wonderfully retro/nu-techno sound can further be heard in the sounds of fellow label contributors such as DJ Naughty, Richard Bartz, Chicks On Speed, Christopher Just and David Carretta. Now in collaboration with Belgium's most revered techno club Hell takes us straight down into the bowels of his uniquely, spun electro-fired Hades funk. The devil rides again."

Title: Fuse Presents Hell
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: 3LP
Price: $18.50
Catalog #: MM 010LP
10 of the tracks featured on the CD, in unmixed form. Of special note is the inclusion of the full 15.55 long version of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley Megamix)" which takes up all of Side A. This extended 12" version is heavily indemand; originally issued by Casablanca in the UK and Australia in 1982. It was never commercially released in the US in any format and the only CD version was a ridiculous & long deleted Canadian-only "Hi NRG" compilation disc. So this vinyl version is the only place you can get the longest version of the quintessential computer disco track! (FYI: the Music Man mix-CD only contains a 7-minute edit). This LP version also features tracks from: 69, Ché, Phuture, Liasons Dangereuses, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Maurizio, The Flying Lizards, Dopplereffekt & Speedy J.

Artist: MILLSART
Title: Every Dog Has It's Day
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 015CD
"After last year's highly acclaimed Lifelike-Axis Vol 2 release Jeff Mills has decided to put out another CD release on Music Man called Every Dog Has Its Day this time under his Millsart monniker. Most of the tracks were previously released on two limited doublepack vinyls (pt 1 & 2) but there are also some unreleased tracks as well as a Jeff Mills vocal track. 'As a fact, life is vivid. Surrounded by relevant matter, we project ourselves and others in the lights of our finest shining hours. Through shaded lessons of the past sometimes block our paths, we remain persistent for a day of grandeur. A day when doubts are persuasive enough to surpass the human defects. We step into the lights with confidence. As a fact, life is life. Unnoticeable as it may appear, your adherence will make the difference in your fate and in destiny. It'll be time when all negativity ceases and abides to fortune and acceptances. It is a day like no other. A day when everything is right and nothing is wrong. There will be no warning or intuition, just repletion. It'll be your day. Now you've read this, please be advised: Every Dog Has Its Day.' A uniquely crafted collection of Electronic Music by Jeff Mills that should ease restlessness, soothe impatience and at the same time build higher life expectations while opening the way to a better life and fortune."

Artist: FIXMER, TERENCE
Title: Aktion Mekanik
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: MM 021CD
"Featuring classic 'EBM' (electronic body music) and Nu-Beat tracks from Nitzer Ebb, The Normal, Fad Gadget, Front 242, Crash Course In Science, Skinny Puppy, DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses and a new exclusive track from compiler (and Gigolo) Terence Fixmer, Aktion Mekanik brings together long lost/forgotten classics from the 80's Belgian Nu-Beat scene, whilst highlighting their influence on modern electronic composition. With tracks such as The Normal's 'Warm Leatherette' being covered by Chicks On Speed or bootlegged by Richard X and DJ Hell covering No More's 'Suicide Commando' and making the second half of his recent 'Electronicbody-housemusic' mix CD a homage to old and new versions of 'EBM', 'Aktion Mekanik' is a timely reminder of how we used to play. One such current producer who certainly used to play is Planete Rouge man, Terence Fixmer who has been fusing EBM with modern techno ever since 'Electrostatic' launched his life as a Gigolo in the late 90s. Born in Lille, on the Northern borders of Belgium it was at the tender age of 15 that Fixmer fell headfirst into the burgeoning EBM scene just across the border, where himself and fellow friends at Ghent's Music Man label fanatically followed bands such as Front 242, Klinik, DAF and Nitzer Ebb and frequented Belgian clubs such as Boccaccio and Skyline. 'I made this compilation as a personal journey and to remember the well respected electronic artists which are in someway our modern techno forefathers,' states Fixmer. 'I made it just because this is the music of my heart and nothing to do with any 80s trend.'"

Artist: VOORN, JORIS
Title: Fuse Presents Joris Voorn
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MM 025CD
"Following the huge success of Joris Voorn's 'Lost Memories' 12" series, his debut artist album Future History on Technasia's Sino offshoot and his new Green label comes his first mix CD. Joining the ranks of Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Technasia, who have all been firm favourites at Belgium's illustrious techno Mecca, Fuse, Joris Voorn provides us with a new mix that blends old classics with future hits. Featuring tracks from Carl Craig, Sleeparchive, Basic Channel, Arthur Baker, Los Hermanos, Marc Houle, Daniel Bell, Jeff Mills, Lil' Louis, Robert Hood, Kenny Larkin, Chez Damier and Joris himself over some 40 tracks, Joris has used Ableton live technology to 'fuse' together a new template to the DJ mix. Joris is a producer and DJ born and raised in Rotterdam. In his early days he played the violin and later on changed to guitar, but when he began to hear artists like Orbital, The Orb and Leftfield, his focus turned towards electronic music. His first release Muted Trax pt 1 on Dutch label Keynote was well received and picked up on by the likes of Laurent Garnier and Carl Craig. He followed this success with his first release on Sino, Lost Memories Pt.1 which caused a stir amongst the dance community and made Joris a recognised name. If Lost Memories Pt 1 suggested Joris was a true talent, then Pt 2 in the series confirmed it. The piano filled 'Incident' charted in almost every dance magazine of worth, made No. 1 in Mixmag's Techno singles, was play-listed by John Peel and was championed by Carl Cox. From talented newcomer to established artist, Holland's Joris Voorn is causing shock waves through the techno community wherever he goes. Now with Fuse Presents Joris Voorn, the Dutch maestro is set to join the elite world of the DJ jet set. From the subtle new electronic tones of Link, Alex Under and Matthew Dear to the cut and thrust tech-funk of Steve Bug, Ben Sims and Jeff Mills, Joris layers classics over new and unreleased tracks to give a new perspective on the art of dance."

Artist: DEETRON
Title: Twisted
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MM 027CD
Swiss-born Deetron aka Sam Geiser unveils his debut full-length album Twisted on Belgium's esteemed Music Man imprint. As proven by his constantly expanding catalog of productions, Deetron is capable of creating tracks that sit happily within the context of a DJ set, while avoiding landing in the often throwaway category of "DJ tools." As with many of the more dynamic turntablist-styled techno and house DJs, Deetron took his early cues from hip-hop, before being won-over by the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit. His DJing -- then still in its infancy -- followed this influence, steering his career in a more 4/4 direction. Early work for labels such as Phont and Intec through the late '90s and 2000, saw Deetron finding his audience (including a string of International club jocks) and developing his own sound. Born in Bern, Switzerland, Sam's father's activities as a jazz musician ensured that he was surrounded by music from a very early age, sewing the seeds of his own musical interests. But it was hip-hop that inspired him the most: Sam soaked up the music of Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest and Prince Paul like a sponge and was quick to realize the role of the turntable within this context, taking up DJing in 1992. Early hip-house producers, such as Todd Terry, also captured his attention and Sam began to make the transition to more 4/4 orientated sounds -- picking up on the now-classic output of Chicago and Detroit-based electronic musicians and introducing this into the sets he was, by now, playing around his home town, and in Switzerland. His first single as Soulmate was released on the Phont label in 1997 before releasing a string of 12"s on Music Man as well as a superb mix CD that acts as ample testament to Sam's skills behind the turntables. Combining Sam's love of house, classic techno, electro, Latin and jazz influences, Twisted is a beautiful journey through an electronic landscape littered with orchestral sweeps, delicate pads, sublime Robert Owens-esque vocals, dancefloor beats and heart tugging strings. Featuring guest appearances from Subject Detroit's DJ Bone, L.A.-based singer Ovasoul7, vocalist and guitarist Justin Chapman, who is also one-half of the Atlanta-based DJ/production duo KemeticJust, and the one and only Paris The Black Fu from the Detroit Grand Pubahs. Twisted is a dancefloor journey from beginning to end. From the opening bass rumble of "Twisted Memories" to the old-school Chicago vox stylings of "Life Soundtrack" and the Drexciyan wiggle of "Isotope" to the demented refrains of "The Afterlife," Deetron shows us that techno can still conjure moments of beauty while still keeping us on the dancefloor.

Joining the ranks of Belgium's premier techno club mix series, Fuse now proudly presents Shinedoe. Based in Amsterdam and the co-runner of Intacto Records, Shinedoe has been playing all over The Netherlands and the world since 1995. Following in the Fuse footsteps of Dave Clarke, Hell, Technasia, Joris Voorn and Steve Bug, Shinedoe delivers her own special brand of wonderful flowing groove. This new Fuse mix drops timeless tunes incorporating different styles and moods from Detroit and Chicago to Berlin. Title: I Love Techno 2007
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: MM 030CD
It's clash of the techno titans as the globally-renowned "I Love Techno" event and UK/Holland-based Dave Clarke bring it on for 20 tracks of uncompromising electronic beats. Featuring unreleased tracks from Kevin Saunderson, The Advent, DJ 3000, Rob Gibson and T. Linder as well as fresh cuts from Joey Beltram, Substance & Vainqueur, The Horrorist and many more, I Love Techno 2007 showcases the most upfront and forward-thinking dancefloor techno, mixed in one live take from one of its biggest global pioneers. Dave Clarke is one of the most important techno and electro producer/DJs around. His cut-up DJ sets are the stuff of legends, where the dancefloor is constantly kept on the edge as electro, techno, Chicago jack house, booty bass and leftfield sonics are spliced and diced with razor-sharp precision. Dave Clarke remains one of the biggest techno names on the planet, either running tents or headlining the cream of the world's best festivals (Sonar, Glastonbury, Lowlands etc.) and playing clubs and live gigs the world over. He has even established his own weekly radio show which showcases his eclectic taste for the alternative scene, both in and outside electronic music, with the occasional live broadcast. From the brooding, rolling beats of Christian Smith and John Selway's set opening "Coming Storm" to the more subtle rhythmic flow of Oliver Ho's Raudive project and Joris Voorn's unreleased remix of Kevin Saunderson's classic "Bassline" to new releases from Fastgraph and Radial, Dave Clarke builds the energy up and down across 20 tracks, encompassing the various forms of what we call techno in 2007. Other artists include: Peter Horrevorts, Public Energy, Quince, British Murder Boys, Matt Rissi & Mustafa Avdic, Woody McBride, Side Four, Phase, Blak Tony, Detroit's Own DJ Surgeon and Velvet Underwear.

Artist: DUNDOV, PETAR
Title: Escapements
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 031CD
This is the second full-length release from Croatian DJ/producer Petar Dundov. Dundov is a producer who runs his own Neumatik studio and multimedia company where he works as a sound engineer as well as producing his own take on techno, house and electronica. Escapements is his most accomplished work to date and features beautifully layered techno, hypnotic rhythms and shimmering melodies that make this a real landmark release. The lead single "Oasis" has been remixed by Substance & Vainqueur and follow-up singles will include mixes from Detroit's Echospace, Dub Kult and DFA's Gavin Russom. His last full-length CD release was in 2001, with the ambient album Sculptures 1-3 on Jeff Mills' Tomorrow label that preceded multiple 12" releases on Music Man. Running Man brought attention back to his music and also announced the direction and concept of Escapements. Fusing hypnotic rhythms, bubbling melodies, intricate atmospheres and a soundtrack-like quality, Escapements exists in a nocturnal post-club hinterland where the bass and beats still echo through your ears as night turns into day. Taking the listener from the club to a tripped-out dreamscape, Escapements brings musicality back to techno and shows that minimal need not be one-dimensional. Driving, thrilling and emotionally-charged, Escapements is set to cross the techno/house/trance divide and become one of the essential electronic albums of 2008. The album also comes bound in a beautiful UV-varnished design with a "QR" code (next-generation barcode) printed on the packaging that leads to a hidden web site with exclusive content.

Artist: BEYER, ADAM
Title: Fuse Presents Adam Beyer
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 032CD
Joining the ranks of Dave Clarke, DJ Hell, Joris Voorn, Steve Bug, Shinedoe and Technasia, who have all been firm favorites at Belgium's illustrious techno Mecca, Fuse, Adam Beyer now provides a mix showcasing where Sweden's techno pioneer is currently at. Fusing a rhythmic and minimal mix throughout its 22 tracks, Beyer splices tracks from Patrik Skoog, Joel Mull, LEM, Mauro Picotto, Cari Lekebusch (Braincell), Kyle Geiger (exclusive), Smith & Selway (exclusive), Schneider & Galluzzi, Paco Osuna, Museum (exclusive), Mathew Jonson (exclusive) and more into an hypnotic late-night tale. From the driving percussive force of his Drumcode label to the more open electronic miasma on his current Truesoul and Mad Eye imprints, Beyer remains one of the biggest and most influential producer/DJs on the planet. Ever keen to continually evolve and develop, his three studio albums aptly show the Swede's studio development from raw material to polished gem. Making his name originally with heavily percussive peak-time techno that his labels Drumcode and Code Red had helped to define, Beyer's production style and DJing has evolved somewhat over the last five years whereby the tempo has come down and melody and a stripped-down minimalism have come to the fore. With releases on the likes of Plus 8 and his own Mad Eye series spearheading his production approach, you are just as likely to find Beyer DJing alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin and Sven Väth as Jeff Mills or Laurent Garnier. This Fuse mix shows that Adam Beyer remains on top of his game, from the opening delicate nuances of Patrik Skoog's "Jack Is Back" to his own re-working of Mathew Jonson's classic swirling refrain of "Marionette" (exclusive to this compilation). Other artists include Mute, Martinez, Grindvik, Zahn, Anton Pieete, 76-79, Jackmate, Pedro Trotz, D'julz, 2000 & One, Acid Circus, Agaric, and Maetrik.

Artist: DEETRON
Title: Fuse Presents Deetron
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 033CD
Joining the ranks of Dave Clarke, DJ Hell, Joris Voorn, Steve Bug, Shinedoe, Adam Beyer and Technasia, who have all been firm favorites at Belgium's illustrious techno mecca, Fuse, Deetron (aka Sam Geiser) now provides us all with a new live mix to add some Swiss spice to the series, including some unreleased and exclusive tracks. Splicing the likes of Fingers Inc., Marcel Dettman, Shackleton, Redshape, Henrik Schwarz, Âme, Kenneth Bager and Radio Slave, Deetron takes us on a journey as old and new, house and techno all collide in one glorious party. His first single -- as Soulmate -- was released on Phont in 1997, but possibly the most fruitful partnership of his career so far is with Belgium's Music Man label. Beginning with the Dolls For A Diva 12" in 2001, and including several more 12"s and a full-length album, Deetron now flexes his DJ muscles for the esteemed Fuse series. Fuse remains Belgium's premier techno club, and has been so since its opening in 1994. It started off as a haven for high quality techno with a reputation for bringing in the best and most innovative DJs on the scene. Alongside residents Pierre and Deg, DJs such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and lots of others seem to enjoy playing here as much as the crowd enjoys partying to their sets. Deetron joins the illustrious ranks and takes us from the deeper-edged sides of techno and the driving rhythms of house to a place where Carl Craig does battle with Spacetime Continuum, Efdemin takes on Jacopo Carreras, Henrik Schwarz joins forces with Âme and Dixon, Matthew Styles rubs shoulders with DXR and Radio Slave segues into the 1990 "lost" classic "Future" by Mr. Monday. The Fuse party machine is once again in safe hands. Artist: BOYS NOIZE
Title: I Love Techno 2008
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 034CD
Following Dave Clarke's techno stomp on 2007's I Love Techno mix, here we find an altogether different take on the world of electronics as Berlin's wunderkind, Boys Noize, gives us a raucous dancefloor assault. From the scything buzz of tracks like Mr. Oizo's "Positif" to Soundhack's cut-up funk on "Devils Run" and Joey Beltram's taut, pulverizing classic "Game Form," Boys Noize delivers just what his name suggests. Boys Noize is the moniker of German electro-tech producer and DJ, Alexander Ridha and is also the name of Ridha's label, Boysnoize Records, which he set up in 2005. Born and raised in Hamburg but now residing in Berlin, he has released records on Kitsune, Tiga's Turbo Records and on DJ Hell's Gigolo imprint. He has also remixed tracks for Snoop Dogg, Depeche Mode, Feist, Bloc Party, Justice, Gonzales and many more. Following on from his Boys Noize label compilation BNR Vol.1, Mr. Ridha hits us from all angles of the techno sphere. From superb cut-up rave from MMM and Errorsmith to Alter Ego's teutonic onslaught, DMX Krew's vocodered electro, Steve Rachmad's deep grooves and the energetic fun(k) of Diplo's remix of Bingo Player's "Get Up," Boys Noize is bringing back techno's early "maximal" rave blast. And for that, Mr. Ridha, we salute you! Other artists include: Proxy, I-Robots, Jan Driver, ZZT, Poni Hoax, Popof, D.I.M., Les Petits Pilous, Mixhell, Brodinski, DJ Koze, Patrice Bäumel, Len Faki, The Subs, Yuksek, Zeus and Para One.

Artist: ROTHER, ANTHONY
Title: Fuse Presents Anthony Rother
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: 2CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 035CD
Includes an unmixed bonus CD: 2 CDs for the price of one! Joining the ranks of Dave Clarke, DJ Hell, Joris Voorn, Steve Bug, Shinedoe, Adam Beyer, Technasia, and Deetron who have all been firm favorites at Belgium's illustrious techno mecca, Fuse, Anthony Rother presents a live mix to add some German techno spice to the series, taking us on a journey through the new stripped-down sounds of techno. For over 17 years, Anthony Rother has been working, playing, living and representing electro and techno. With his club label Datapunk, he has been transforming the aesthetics of electro into today's music for several years now. Some extraordinary singles, like productions for Sven Väth's Cocoon label, and Rother's fifth studio album Popkiller prove the timelessness of his sound. As the head of Datapunk and Stahl, Rother has been taking his production skills from the dancefloor to more experimental realms and back again, as he develops his DJ skills using a laptop, mixer and controller. With his first mix for Fuse, he tackles the minimally-edged dubs of Wolfgang Voigt's Studio 1, the unmistakable sound of Mad Mike/UR, the deep, dream-like grooves of Ricardo Tobar, Florian Senfter's (aka Zombie Nation) John Starlight alter ego and Pig & Dan's chugging minimalism, while taking it all back to the highly-polished electro stylings of Frank Kusserow's remix of La Rez's "Wo Kommen Wir Her." Other artists include: Boys Noize, Leke Da Loco, John Kelvin & Darmon D, Utku Dalmaz, Fetish &Me, Freakslum, Rother vs. Telekraft, Tony Rohr & Alexi Delano, and Baustein.

Petar Dundov runs his own Neumatik studio in Zagreb where he works as a sound engineer as well as producing his own take on techno, house and electronica. The album Ideas From The Pond is his most accomplished work to date and features beautifully layered techno, hypnotic rhythms and shimmering melodies that make this a real landmark release for the Croatian DJ/producer. To Dundov, "techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dancefloor and abstract enough to be a template forever." And indeed, his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions. Although maybe the word "techno" doesn't give enough detail about his style, it's probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres -- and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it's that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. Taking the listener from the club to a tripped-out dreamscape, Ideas From The Pond brings musicality back to techno and shows that minimal doesn't need to be one-dimensional. Driving, thrilling and emotionally-charged, Ideas From The Pond is set to cross the techno/house/trance divide and become one of the essential electronic albums of 2012.

Artist: HOOD, ROBERT
Title: Motor: Nighttime World 3
Label: MUSIC MAN (BELGIUM)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: MM 038CD
After the legendary Nighttime World Volume 1 and Nighttime World Volume 2, Music Man is proud to be able to present you with the long-awaited Motor: Nighttime World 3. With Motor: Nighttime World 3, Detroit techno legend Robert Hood returns to the project he first started on Austria's Cheap label back in 1995 and subsequently continued in 2000 on M-Plant. Fusing his trademark minimal techno into jazz-inspired moods and inflections, Hood emerges from the smoke-lit shadows of a downbeat, but not beaten, Motor City metropolis. Inspired by Julien Temple's documentary Requiem for Detroit?, Robert Hood examines the life, history and future of Detroit's motor industry and its workforce, set against a backdrop of decay, despair, hope and re-birth. Julien Temple's film is a vivid evocation of an apocalyptic vision: a slow-motion Katrina that has had many more victims. Detroit was once America's fourth largest city. Built by the car for the car, with its groundbreaking suburbs, freeways and shopping centers, it was the embodiment of the American dream. But its intense race riots brought the army into the city. With violent union struggles against the fierce resistance of Henry Ford and the Big Three, it was also the scene of American nightmares. As Hood himself states: "The situation in Detroit is making people uncomfortable, but that's a good thing if we look at it in the right perspective. It's a shaking up and realization of the condition that Detroit has been in for so long. As it was a long and slow process, people became immune to what was happening, almost asleep at the wheel. This once progressive city is now half gone. To make a new future, Detroit needs to look deep within to be able to see a new vision and thrive once more. As long as there is a seed, there is hope." Now it is truly a dystopic post-industrial city, in which 40% of the land in the center is returning to prairie. Greenery grows up through abandoned office blocks, houses and collapsing car plants, and swallows up street lights. There is no more rush hour on what were the first freeways in America. Crime, vandalism, arson and dog fighting are the main activities in once the largest building in North America. But it's also a source of hope. Streets are being turned into art. Farming is coming back to the center of the city. Young people are flocking to help. The burgeoning urban agricultural movement is the fastest-growing movement in the U.S. Detroit leads the way again, but in a very different direction. With the breakdown of 20th-century civilization, many Detroiters have discovered an exhilarating sense of starting over, building together a new cross-racial community sense of doing things, discarding the bankrupt rules of the past and taking direct control of their own lives. Still at the forefront of the American Dream, Detroit is fast becoming the first "post-American" city. And amid the ruins of the Motor City it is possible to find a first pioneer's map to the post-industrial future that awaits us all. So perhaps Detroit can avoid the fate of the lost cities of ancient civilizations and rise again like the phoenix that sits, appropriately, on its municipal crest.

The title track kicks off with tantalizing strings that build up towards a euphoric climax. "Quinta" is assembled around a looped synth line, which, coupled with a deft, rolling bass line -- makes for something uniquely brilliant.
