"Chilean Vicente Sanfuentes, a.k.a Original Hamster (Tigerbeat6), delivers the new dancefloor fascination, the awesome EP under his Trendsetter and the followers alias on Montreal´s Musique Risquée label. His usual funky distorted sounds are now mixed with weird lyrics glorifying marketing concepts, noisy house beats and catchy melodies. It´s a crazy Kraftwerk-like-dance appealing-future funky marketing class! (believe it or not). We don´t know if we should sell it at the marketing section of Barnes and Noble or at the cutting edge electronics section of the record stores. Again, Musique Risquée hits us with a explosive and fresh release, discovering the path other labels will soon be following. There´s trendsetters and there´s followers."

RISQUEE 005EP
"For its fifth release Musique Risquée is very proud to present a new EP by The Mole (Colin de la Plante). The first track 'Lost in Transvestite', is a long, slow and hypnotising track that brings right in the heart of transvestite, the great capital Lesbosania. The Bacon Smugglers (The Mole with Juanself) follow with 'Naming my Bacon', a greasy house blend of meatsoul in minimal sauce. Maybe a little cooking is needed before. And finally the last track: 'All Because of a Lack of Snow and Temptation' as a very good story attached to it: the reason why The Mole got inspired for it was all because of lack of snow and temptation. Isn't that just wonderful."

Tremendous return from the nearly forgotten Cam, including remixes from Deadbeat and Akufen. "The triumphant return of everyone's favorite French surrealio-serialist, Philipe Cam. Having originally gained a loyal following with a string of haunting audio opiates for Cologne's Traum imprint, Cam now awakens from his psychedelic hibernation to recount the music of his dreamstate, appropriately titled
Somewhere Between Here and There
. Our excursion begins with 'Un Salon Dans le Ciel,' an undulating ambient blues work out, which hovers effortlessly in the rhythmic aether somewhere between the spheres of house and classic Cologne shuffle. Track 2 sees our very own Deadbeat pull the covers high over his head, and dream up just the sort of soothing half-tempo dub massage we all need after a hard night's work. On the title track, 'Somewhere Between Here and There,' Cam weaves an expansive web of untethered chords and fleeting sonic memories which vaporize into the abyss as quickly as the surface. Big daddy Akufen then reminds these same audio elements that they may have once lived in a small French village somewhere between the cities of house and techno, effortlessly reorganizing them into a soundtrack for those blessed souls still on the dancefloor at 10 am the morning after...truly a warm bed of slow-mo sonic weirdness not to be missed."

RISQUEE 009EP
"Alex Kaline and Edward Krilov, two Russian guys from New York. Let them explain the new EP in their own words: 'Mugen Vugen' and space between, or conceptualization of its opposite. Taken to ultimate logic, we cannot experience ourselves as what we are until encountered what we are not. This is the purpose of the theory of relativity, and all physical life. This seems so amazingly simple, yet it becomes very complex and subtle here. There are some people are willing to actually listen. They are willing to hear, and they are willing to remain open to communication even when it seems scary, or crazy, or downright wrong, asking for something fucked up and out off straight line, without theological doctrines or scientific theories. At the end of the light day, 'Mugen Vugen' retires to the state of righteousness and compliance as the stock markets crash in the distance. A mind lock error and the hope of the human race... what's wrong?"

"Who could have been more appropriate as a guest on Musique Risquée than mister Uwe Schmidt himself, man of a thousand faces and one beige suit. I'm sure like Clark Kent he has seven of them in his closet. Also like Kent, Uwe Schmidt bares a secret identity. The mighty Atom Heart who has been rescuing our ears and heads for two decades with some of the craftiest, freshest and most diversified electronic musak ever. This time, Sir Atom TM has reinvented our good old wheel, and replaced it for one that squeaks and skips for better mixing accidents. The humoristic piece on the B-side 'Insulting the DJ' is in fact the ultimate DJ testdrive for those who like to cruise at 200 kilometres per hour on a gravel road next to a cliff. For the adventurous daredevil DJ in you, or simply for those who enjoy music with an edge and a dash of humor. For the safest Sunday deckdriver, the A-side proposes a four lane asphalted road. The piece 'Form Swallows Function' keeps the pedal to the metal while slowly evolving into a deep and hypnotic journey on a lost highway. Many people out there could claim they've reinvented the wheel, but only one man rethought it everyday of his life. The music speaks for itself. Atom has done it again. The wheels are in motion."

RISQUEE 011EP
Remixes by Dimbiman, Ark, & The Mole. "When we asked the 3 remixers which track they wanted to remix off of Stephen Beaupré's great album
Foe Destroyer
for Musique Risquée, it was without hesitation that everyone chose 'Les Filles.' The deep soothing sounds and rhythms of 'Les Filles 'is an instant favorite amongst all who had the chance to experience the album. It was an immense pleasure for us to let Dimbiman, Ark and The Mole dig into Stephen's material and make it their own, creating three very unique interpretations on the oldest source of inspiration known to man: 'Les Filles!' Dimbiman's remix kicks off the superb record with a deep bass-driven punch, building gradually into a glorious funky ending, reminding us why he's so masterful in creating groove from space in between rhythms. Ark's remix comes in with a rougher approach, more syncopated and creating a simple funky jam out of snippets of percussion and pitched down vocals for full dancefloor effect. Finally, The Mole closes everything beautifully with a long, twirling discofied version of 'Les Filles' that will hypnotize any listener on the planet."

"It is with immense joy that we present for the first time on Musique Risquée the Montreal/Argentinian duo Chic Miniature, composed of Ernesto Ferreyra and Gabriel Coutu-Dumont (Egg, Luci, Guillaume and the Coutu-Dumont) with their EP
Poco-a-Gogo
. As their alias so aptly reveals, Chic Miniature fabricates intricately sculpted little gems, finely-crafted works that unravel like finely woven lace. Their delicate structures and warm spellbinding melodies trigger rich imagery while fervently rousing the desire to groove. 'Chanchita' plunges us directly into an electropical jungle where fractured voice and percussion bustle around an elegant succession of elements woven into a slow progression both organic and sexy. An aural oasis. The warm and sensuous piece 'Kimono' will leave no trace of indifference. The magnificent and obscure quasi-mystical Latin melodies, the unmistakable signature of Chic Miniature, reveal an immense sensitivity and sensuality. All is strung together by a solid rhythmic structure that will surely move your feet before the information even reaches your brain. 'Kimono' invites us on an expedition through the furrows of certain unknown somber terrains, such as an unmarked seductive mirage at the heart of a desert where anything can transpire. A classic."

The Mole
is back on Musique Risquée with a beautiful introspective three-tracker. The opening track ''I've Got My A'' is an upper-mid-tempo,
Theo Parrish
-style, tribal house groove. "Thanks For Coming Out Pt.1" is a sweet little anthem building up slowly and softly. It reminds of the
Twin Peaks
soundtrack, with lush keyboard pads supported by a smooth drum pattern. Finally, "Border Times" is a soulful, reggae-styled club track that will make its way into the playlist of many DJs.

RISQUEE 014EP
"Musique Risquée is proud to introduce a new artist on its roster for this fourteenth release: Munich's best kept secret, Jichael Mackson. This release has come a long way since Jichael handed a CDR to label owner Marc Leclair (Akufen) on his last trip to Munich. Since then, Marc has played the hell out of these three tracks in his numerous DJ sets around the planet, getting fantastic reactions everywhere. Michael Reinboth (of Compost Records) has been harassing Jichael about the release of this new fabulous EP for months now. We understand clearly why.
...Wasn't Me
crosses many different genres, from the opening 'The Grass Is Always Greener' that features slick deep grooves reminding old Basic Channel material, to 'Freitag Abend RMX' that we are proud to put back into circulation again after being sold out on Pastamusik and the long incursion in the dark fjords of his mind through the track 'Snuff' that he co-produced with Ole Larsson, an unknown producer from Iceland."

RISQUEE 015CD
This is the debut full-length album by Montréal's
Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts
. Since the turn of the millennium,
Guillaume Coutu Dumont
has established himself as a near Svengali-esque character within the group of musicians associated with Montreal's Mutek festival. Though the festival's influence has spawned countless creative collaborations, none of the other players have made their own voice heard so clearly amongst the comedic madness said collaborations have so often produced. Whether working alongside
Julien Roy
as
Egg
,
David Fafard
as
Luci
,
Ernesto Ferrerya
as
Chic Miniature
, or under Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts moniker, a distinctive blend of classic house sensibilities and crystal clear digital production techniques have always revealed his unmistakable creative influence. Though classically-trained as a percussionist, his productions to date have seemed to draw greater influence from his academic research in electro-acoustics then any long-forgotten rhythmic tradition. In searching for the inspiration for his debut album,
Face à L'est
, Guillaume Coutu Dumont spent several months in Senegal, living with a family of musicians and traveling around the country with a jazz ensemble. It was during this trip that he became "deeply impressed by the relation between music and movement." It is this exact relationship which clearly leads the way through
Face à L'est
's various rhythmic excursions. Whether drawing inspiration from field recordings made of the morning in Sael Desert, or simply the happy nights spent Dakar, or the impossibly hot Harmattan winds, Guillaume Coutu Dumont weaves a rich tapestry of organic percussion and futuristic textures into an inescapably funky rhythmic whole. A debut album not to be missed.

Les Georges Leningrad
. With a completely new and much-improved mastering and a nice full side cut, this track brings us back to the funky swinging side of Akufen's music, with his usual crazy voice cut-ups, groovy piano stabs and solid driving drum programming, recalling
Herbert

Knowing Looks
is the project of
Jason Hopfner
, a unique, atypical electronic artist. Originally from the wilds of the Canadian prairies, he now resides in Toronto.
Uzbekistan Love
is a tribute to a trip to Uzbekistan. From the rolling hypnotic groove of "1x100=Moon," to the bumpy, melancholic rhythm of "Party Mortality," to the building crescendo of "Hyperthymestic Syndrome," his musical palette shows he has a great taste for drum programming and a clear sense of surprise.

Pigeon Funk

The Largest Bird In The History Of The Planet... Ever!
. For those who are already familiar with the work of the two men involved, this second Pigeon Funk album should come as no surprise: the duo specialize in top-drawer, maximalist playfulness, angular funk with blocks of squirms, whistles, horns, Latino squabbles, and faux-lounge robotics tripping over each other in a sonic playground that reveals new dimensions with every listen.
The Largest Bird In The History Of The Planet... Ever!
is a braindancer's delight, well within the label's tradition of surrealist mindbending for the dancefloor. This 12-track voyage through the wild imaginations of the West-Coast vanguard is a bible for serious beat manipulators hell-bent on putting a smile on the listener's face. This is no ordinary techno album; the two producers at the helm here are godfathers of the San Francisco techno scene and, as a result, have an impeccable track record of frothing personality. Though many of you may remember Pigeon Funk being a trio on their 2004 Proptronix/Onitor co-release
Proptronix Presents: Pigeon Funk!
, the funksters now return as a lean duo; however, they enlist a host of collaborators on various tracks, including vocalists, instrumentalists, and even a klezmer ensemble. But Pigeon Funk is all pedigree. Kit Clayton, who owns the Orthlorng Musork label, has four albums to his name, including the 1999 cult-classic
Nek Sanalet
on ~scape. He has recorded for Background, Mille Plateaux, Plug Research, and Carpark among others over his decade-long career in computer music. Sutekh, who has spent the last few years recording for the always-quality Soul Jazz and Leaf labels, is the producer behind full-length demented techno monsters like 2000's
Periods.Make.Sense
and 2002's
Incest Live
, two gems that appeared on Force Inc. at the height of the Frankfurt's label's heyday. And they aren't kidding when they claim this album to be
The Largest Bird In The History Of The Planet... Ever!
Funk has yet to meet the talons of a pigeon this big, and the outcome is bound to be messy, loud, and unprecedented.

Others
is the new project from
Bruno Pronsato
and funk master
Daze Maxim
-- a collaborative work that studies the possibilities of saxophone and trumpet sound within a techno/house frame. This project explores the melodic possibilities of the instruments, which are processed to widen their scope. "Take 1" focuses on the wide palette of the saxophone, floating, fleeting and flocculating over 9 minutes. "Take 2" is constructed around the trumpet, showcasing its more virile, twisting side. Completely unique.
