Artist: FRISCO (FEAT. TRIM/SKEPTA/WILEY)
Title: Back 2 The Lab Volume 1 & 2 Sampler
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: NHNH 001EP
"The first release comes from Boy Better Know member Frisco, who found time away from his hectic touring schedule with Skepta and JME to release two 'Back 2 Da Lab' mixtapes (Vol 1 and 2). The Back 2 Da Lab EP showcases the best tracks off these releases and firmly establishes Frisco as one of the grime scene's rising stars. The EP sees him trading bars with grime heavyweights such as Wiley, Skepta and Trim, and flowing over productions from such established producers as Plastician, JME and Goldielocks. The EP features the controversial 'Ayia Napa Story' where Frisco, Skepta and Trim recount their perspectives on the now infamous events on the Cyprus Island. 'Can't Test Me' sees Frisco go line for line with Grime's godfather Wiley, while 'Fully Grown' is a strictly Boy Better Know affair with Skepta and 'Big Frisc' bubbling over a signature JME beat. The EP is rounded off by 'Same Shit Different Day' produced by grime outsiders Goldielocks and Suicide Dogs, highlighting the label's enthusiasm to look for talent wherever it may be."

Artist: RUFF SQWAD
Title: RSMD
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: NHNH 002EP
"One of the strongest grime tracks around at the moment is Ruff Sqwad's 'RSMD,' marking as it does, the return of one of grime's most loved crews. While their most well known member, Tinchy Stryder has been off promoting his solo album and new EP 'Cloud 9' via the indie support act/student tour route, it's the return of the full camp that sparks excitement. RSMD is produced by Dirty Danger. The imprint is the affiliate label of London's leading grime night, Dirty Canvas -- though to be fair to the line-ups, they do put on some amazing dubstep, bass line and garage DJs, too. The tune samples one of the Sqwad's earliest productions 'Raw 2 The Core,' made back in 2001/2002, at a time before the genre could realistically be recognized as having been formed. Speaking to Rapid, he's bashful about how ahead of their time they were, though the evidence is clear from their back catalog. In the early days however, their strong point was their production rather than their MCing -- especially compared to peers Roll Deep's bars -- but on RSMD, you can here a crew at their vocal peak, each verse tight and energetic. It's pure inertia. 'When we write tunes, we aim to make people react to it, we look for a bop of the head or watch them dance around,' explains Rapid. His comments are telling only because the majority of big tunes in grime have tended to try to engender a reload rather than work towards a groove."

Artist: P MONEY
Title: What Did He Say?
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: NHNH 003EP
"Pure dose of grimey sickage from P Money on the up-and-coming No Hats No Hoods label, building further on the mayhem wrought by the killer Ruff Sqwad Man Dem EP which fully cooked our biscuits only a few weeks ago. Mr. Slash and Maniac both show up for production credits, with premier producer Slash building a deviled hype staccato riddim for P Money's ventings on 'What Did He Say?,' also coming in prime instrumental form. Maniac seizes the controls for 'Don't Jump,' threading manic, edited beats through a sprung piano refrain, if possible, sounding even better on the instrumental cut, allowing the full weight of the riddim to shred your system. Doing the nasty."

Artist: RUDE KID
Title: Are U Ready?
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: NHNH 004EP
"An instrumental vinyl from producer of the moment Rude Kid. If you've listened to pirate radio, Tim Westwood, Logan Sama, 1Xtra, bought a grime CD or been to a Dirty Canvas show over the past couple of months it's more than likely you'll have heard a Rude Kid production and his trademark 'Are You Ready?' call sign. The 20 year old's astonishing work rate over the last 6 months has seen him recognized as one of the grime scene's most exciting producers and this EP is set to further cement this. Rude Kid's varied production style, which he describes as 'alien music,' has been vocalled by a who's who of the scene -- with Wiley, Ghetto, DJ Ironik Ears, Badness, Griminal, Jammer, Skepta and Chipmunk all gracing Rude kid's signature style. Lead track 'The Best' combines a catchy vocal sample with a raw, uncompromising beat that's had MCs fighting to vocal it. Bragging rights have gone to Ghetto, who's won the race and will be using it on his upcoming album, with a video to follow. 'Alien Skank' is an out of this world reggae-infused cut showcasing Rude Kid's dub influences and versatility as a producer. The track is followed up by 'UFO Mode' -- a favorite within the scene as anyone that listened to Boy Better Know's 'Microphone Champion' podcast will testify. 'Oi Rude Kid you're going on very rude with this one,' Frisco shouts out as the tune is wheeled up. The final track 'Bandanas On' is an equally rowdy affair pushing Rude Kid's sound into new territories."

Artist: SILVERLINK (FEAT. JAMMER & BADNESS)
Title: The Message Is Love
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: NHNH 006EP
"Fresh from mashing up Notting Hill Carnival, this killed it on the all conquering Rampage sound and Diplo himself requested that Jammer and Badness represented on the Red Bull stage. Furthermore Ras Kwame made it Record of the Week on his Radio 1 show and further support from Colonel Logan Sama , Mista Jam, Sinden and Ace and Vis. Featuring Jammer and Badness on vocal duty, it goes from all-out gabba-soca mentalism into a lush R 'n' B breakdown (where we learn how a real man makes love to a woman, no less), and then back into the eye of the madness -- Jammer and Badness practically screaming their hypest bars over the top of it. Jammer's apparently been promoting the single in his own unique way by marching up and down Oxford Street with a megaphone --y'hear?"

Artist: BADNESS
Title: Nightmare Remixes
Label: NO HATS NO HOODS (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $9.00
Catalog #: NHNH 010EP
"No Hats No Hoods celebrate their 10th vinyl release with a selection of hard hitting remixes of Badness' recent grime anthem 'Nightmare'. The track is a follow up to 2009's tropical collaboration with Jammer and Silverlink on The Message Is Love (also released on No Hats No Hoods). The original has been causing a stir in the dubstep and grime scenes for a while now, with Badness and Skepta launching a series of events up and down the country around the track. The first remix comes from dubstep pioneer and legend -- DMZ's Coki -- in collaboration with one of the scenes most consistent producers, Cotti. Coki founded Digital Mystikz with Mala and night DMZ alongside Loefah also -- since then he's been responsible for the genre's huge rise to fame and popularity. His influence cannot be understated and a quick run through of his releases goes to prove that -- Tortured, Spongebob and Night (with Benga) are all landmark releases in a scene that now has spread around the world."
