"Philip Glass' Symphony No. 6 - Plutonian Ode was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Brucknerhaus Linz to celebrate the composer's 65th birthday. The work's libretto was written by his late friend, Allen Ginsberg. Glass explains, 'During the last ten years of Allen's life we had performed frequently together in poetry/music collaborations. Allen was a superb reader of his own work and I was often inspired to compose new piano music for these occasional collaborations. In the case of Hydrogen Jukebox, we developed an evening length opera which was designed by Jerome Sirlin and directed by Ann Carlson. We presented that work in over 30 cities as part of an international tour. It had been our plan to make a new, major collaboration based on his epic poem Plutonium Ode (1978). Before he died in 1997, Allen had made several recordings for me of the poem in preparation for the new work. At that time I had in mind simply an extended piano work to accompany Allen in live performance. I put aside the project in 1997, feeling that I wouldn't want to go ahead without Allen. A few years past and the commission of a new symphony from Carnegie Hall and the Brucknerhaus Linz reawakened my interest in the project. I felt, then, that Plutonium Ode was unfinished business between Allen and myself and this would be the opportunity to complete it. By then, the piano music I had originally imagined had grown to a full orchestra and Allen's resonant speaking voice to a lyric soprano. The three movements of the symphony follow the three parts of the poem, and follow, also, the passage of the poem -- the first movement is a passionate outcry against nuclear contamination and pollution, the second a turn towards healing, and the final movement an epiphany arrived at through personal transformation.' This new world-premiere recording from Orange Mountain, performed by soprano Lauren Flanigan accompanied by the Bruckner Orchester Linz conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, brings this powerful work to life. As a special bonus, the set includes a disc of Allen Ginsburg reading the original poem."

"Philip Glass's serious work in the field of world music was recognized long before the term entered the popular vocabulary. One of his most fruitful projects was with Brazilian ensemble Uakti (pronounced wah-keh-chee). Over the last twenty years, award winning experimental group Uakti has developed a major international following. Constructing all their own instruments, Uakti takes their name from a character from Brazilian Indian legends who had holes all over his body and as he ran through the forest, the wind passed through his body making fantastic unusual sounds. "During his lifetime, classically trained composer, cellist and disco legend Arthur Russell studied and performed with a wide variety of musicians and artists including The Flying Lizards, David Byrne, Rhys Chatham, Ali Akbar Khan, Allen Ginsberg, John Hammond, Peter Gordon, Jon Gibson, Jerry Harrison, Garret List, Frank Pagano, Andy Paley, Leni Pickett and Peter Zummo. In 1979, Russell, working under the name Dinosaur, wrote and produced Kiss Me Again -- the first disco single to be released by Sire Records and the first of Russell's many innovative dance tunes. Kiss Me Again also features contributions from then-fledgling guitarist David Byrne. As a solo act in the 1980s, he produced successes such as the single 'In the Light of the Miracle' (featured on this release) and the album World of Echo (1987, Rough Trade) a masterpiece that defies description and categorization. World of Echo was included in Melody Maker's 'Top Thirty Releases of 1986'. When Russell dies of AIDS in 1992 at the age of 40, the Village Voice wrote, 'his songs were so personal that it seems as though he simply vanished into his music.' Orange Mountain's re-release of Russell's 1994 album Another Thought (Point Music) is a fitting tribute to one of music's greatest and most underappreciated musical innovators."

Unreleased recordings from the late 70s, performed by Glass (Farfisa, Yamaha & Hammond organs, Fender Rhodes piano, Arp synthesizer). "New release which contains three seminal works in Glass's musical history. In the late 1970s, Philip Glass was asked by two film producers, Francois de Menil and Barbara Rose, to write music for a film they were producing. The film was Mark di Suervo, Sculptor and it was Glass's first film score, predating even Koyaanisqatsi. The score took its titles from the names of di Suervo sculptures shown in the film, including Etoile Polaire (North Star) and others. The disc also includes 'Dressed Like an Egg' -- a never before released early Glass score which was written as incidental music to a Mabou Mines Theater Company production in 1977. The disc is rounded out with another never-before-heard recording of Glass' 'Mad Rush' for organ. The work was originally used by choreographer Lucinda Childs for a dance of the same name. All the performances on Analog feature original performances by Philip Glass on electric organ."

"In 2004, Orange Mountain Music released an album of solo piano transcriptions of Philip Glass' Oscar and Golden Globe nominated score to The Hours. These transcriptions were done by Glass' longtime music director and pianist Michael Riesman. Riesman's solo piano transcription of the score to The Hours proved so successful that Orange Mountain Music was inspired to approach Riesman again to make an arrangement of Glass' haunting score to Todd Browning's 1931 classic Dracula, which starred Bela Lugosi. Glass' original score was written for string quartet and was recorded and toured by the Kronos Quartet. This new arrangement of the score is treated to a truly virtuosic performance by Michael Riesman and includes a previously-unrecorded track which was composed by Glass but was left out of the soundtrack recording.
