"Our man from Seattle strikes again on Philpot Records after several releases on imprints like Alphahouse and Telegraph. We are glad to welcome Steven Ford aka Bruno Pronsato back after his stunning Open your Eyes debut . 'All Night Blahblah' is taken from Pronsato's great album Silver Cities which was originally released two years ago on Orac Records in Canada and is nowadays a hard to find piece of vinyl. The extraordinary vocals are done by Orac label chief Randy Jones, aka Caro. Reason enough for the Philpot crew to pull this amazing tune out again and give it some straight Jackmate treatment to rock the floor. On the flip 'We Were...' is a jackin minimal mover with some strange acid bleeps, repetitive beats and typical Pronsato claps. Definitely more a player for the late hours at Berlin's Panorama Bar, maybe."

This is the debut full-length album from Dresden's Sebastian Lohse aka Break SL. After two very successful 12"s on Philpot, Break SL has already defined his own universe of sounds and proper production skills, and City Wasteland proves this is a young talent to watch. After the smooth introduction with house-rooted strings, piano and sweet FM-synthesis, he explores the deepest territory of Detroit-influenced techno with "Weird Dancer," followed by a lush playground atmosphere over beatdown excursions on "Kids." The track "My Love Is For U" introduces us to the voice of Syjana, singing a duet with Lohse himself. "Break It" pushes musical boundaries even further, with 4-to-the-floor, funked-up electro and meandering soundscapes, reminiscent of B12 and the likes. Next is "Laguna Seca" from his second 12" on Philpot -- a track that has already made it onto various charts, and a true masterpiece. "Dirtbomb" has some nice edges and a dark feeling to it. Hovering samples and a raw, dirty feel on the drums gives the whole track a very subtle blues, but the following "Slowmotion" pours oil on troubled water with the sort of endless, floating euphoria we sometimes miss on the floors of today. "Trombone" is taken from Break SL's debut 12" -- a hidden gem of sparkling arpeggios, driving chords and a serious beat now appearing in a different version on this album. "Move!" is filled with old-school techno galore, while "Searching" takes the tempo down a bit, still keeping it funky, moody, and mellow, with Syjana's voice rounding it all out beautifully. The "Outro" breaks it up for the last time, leaving you stunned by the overall atmosphere and variety of moods.

The Philpot label's 50th release is dedicated to all of their artists, friends and supporters who have helped them to gain their reputation as a proper freestyle label over the years. This double vinyl-only compilation features Philpot artists, present and future, and covers every musical aspect that has encapsulated the label. Tim Toh and IKE had impressive debut releases on Philpot, so they share the A-side. Starting with "Floral," Tim sets the tone for the whole side. Raw, ruff piano riffs counterpoint a banging rhythm while the background shimmers. IKE strips it down to the basics with a dirty little piece of old school house music aptly titled "Throwbackmusic '94." On the B-side, Philpot's future artists Roman Rauch and Tom Ellis both funk up the whole thing. Roman starts with "Lemme Get There," a tune full of discoid-acid, a great chorus and an even bigger bass line. Tom Ellis increases the funk level even further. Breaks, guitar licks and a fat bass, plus some great vocals on top. The C-Side hosts the expressive pairing of The Reboot Joy Confession and Juju & Jordash. RJC's "O" is a claustrophobic storm of electric jazz, saw-toothed bass and a fucking message! Juju & Jordash charge into deep space with "Tanglefoot" -- strong textures fly into oblivion just barely held in check by a stubborn piano and a very vital bass line -- future classic! The D-side belongs to Move D alone for his blueprint of deepest electro called "Untitled Detroit." The classic instrumentation and the flawless arrangement makes for a very strong charmer.
