Title: Lovin' Fire: 20 Obscure Gems from the UK and Europe
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7001CD
Brand new prog compilation containing rarities, compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Psychic Circle endeavors to go a little bit further than your average comp imprint, and the intention is to assemble themed albums of rare tunes that have been overlooked by other compilers. Psychic Circle's production values are of the highest order, and the sound quality as good as it can possibly be. The original artwork is designed to reflect the musical content, and the 8-page booklet, written by Saloman, is informative and well researched. The names of the bands may not be familiar, but the quality of their music is undeniable. As the '60s gave way to the '70s, it wasn't just fashion that was in a frenzied state of flux. Music, too, was undergoing a seismic transformation. By late '69, progressive rock was becoming established as the prevailing musical genre, a position it was to occupy until the birth of punk in the next decade. This compilation comprises 20 unknown diamonds, previously un-comped on CD, from prog's early days. Artists include: Silence, Ray Owen's Moon, Ipsissimus, The Warm Sensation, Pacific Sound, Apartment 1, White Mule, Left Side, Mayroc, The Exchange And Mart, The Royal Servants, Custer's Track, Rainbows, The Locomotive, Andromeda, Whichwhat, The Influence, Children, Hunter and Paul Nicholas.

Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7003CD

Title: Hide and Seek: A Collection of British Blue-Eyed Soul
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7004CD
...1964-1969. Hide and Seek is a new collection of 20 UK floor-filling, mod soul stompers from the 1960s, assembled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). While many bands were experimenting with the tripped-out side of the music scene, others were delving deeper into the transatlantic soul grooves which aimed at the feet rather than the head. With brass and Hammond to the fore, these acts were setting dancehalls, discos and clubs alight with their soulful sounds. As usual, the Psychic Circle label has done everything to ensure that these tracks are previously uncomped, and in top aural shape. Featuring artists such as Dave Antony, Jason Knight, Barry St. John, Fearns Brass Foundry, Gene Latter, Jon & Jeannie, The Stone Graphics, The Anglians, Kevin "King" Lear, Carl King, The Exotics, Johnny & John, Five & A Penny, James Royal, Johnny Carr, The Carrolls, Bernie & The Buzz Band, Cinnamon, Owen Gray and Watson T. Title: White Lace & Strange: Heavy Psych and Power Fuzz
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7005CD
... from the USA 68-72. 2009 repress. White Lace & Strange is comprised of rare U.S. stomp-rock from the '60s you've probably never heard before. By the end of the '60s, psychedelia was pretty much a spent force. Bands were looking for something simpler and more earthy. Crosby, Stills & Nash had gone all acoustic and harmonious, The Band had achieved a return to classic Americana, and James Taylor was showing the world you could be laid back and hip at the same time. However, not everyone wanted to ditch their fuzzboxes. Inspired by such outfits as Cream, Blue Cheer, Hendrix and the nascent Led Zeppelin, these American bands were moving out of psych into something less cosmic and far heavier. This mix of blooze rock and heavy riffing is loud and nasty but it pre-dates metal. It's pretty tripped-out, but it's not really psychedelia. It's the sound of guitar, bass and drums (and the occasional Hammond organ) just as it was meant to be -- cranked up and in your face. No frills, just power chords and stomping riffs. Stamp on that Big Muff and solo till your brain drops out. Compiled by Psychic Circle label head, Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond.

Title: Fairytales Can Come True: UK Popsych from the Late '60s
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7006CD
The Psychic Circle label presents a volume of enchanting UK pop-psych; 20 previously uncomped tracks amongst which you'll find the pre-Fairport Iain Matthews, the only single from Jackie Lomax's Lomax Alliance, Gallagher & Lyle's unique response to Pet Sounds & a Troggs-like gem from P.J. Proby's hairdresser! Compilers and collectors alike know that there was some wonderful music coming out of the UK in the late '60s and it wasn't all-out psychedelia or floor-filling blue-eyed soul. Sure, all these tracks have a psychy feel, and some of them would pack a dancefloor, but really they're more concerned with harmony and pop sensibility. These are dazzling tracks from the late '60s UK scene, all very melodic and refreshing.

Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7007CD
...20 Gems From The Early Years Of Prog. A Visit to the Spaceship Factory presents 20 ear-watering morsels that will thrill and entertain in equal measure. Wander the dimly lit corners of the Spaceship Factory, an establishment designed to produce vehicles that could take you from the geometric wallpaper of your room to the far side of your electric dreams. It wasn't in production for very long, but while it was operating, not only did it manufacture million-selling models such as Yes, Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull, but it brought you the brash rock of Treetops, the polished guitar wizardry of Israeli progsters Jericho, the fuzzed-up dirt of Jesse Hector's proto-punk outfit Helter Skelter, and countless other designs now being re-appraised or still waiting to be recognized. The conveyor belts may be still, the furnaces may be cold, but the ships still fly to the stars. Psychic Circle's intrepid vinyl hound, Jamie Romer, has scoured the land in his quest to excavate more undiscovered psycho-prog stunners. This new selection bears testament to his endeavors. Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7010CD
2009 repress.
Over the past 20 years there have been countless compilations of prime, raw British Beat. Many of these have featured tracks that have appeared several times already. This might give the impression that this particular well has run dry. The Psychic Circle label admits that the gushing torrent of undiscovered pure R&B frenzy has now been reduced to a babbling country brook, but if you dig deep enough, there are still some untapped reserves of top quality beat waiting to be unearthed. Nothing Comes Easy is a compilation of 20 such gems, previously uncomped on CD. Some of these bands may be familiar to you as they have appeared on other collections of this genre, some have never been comped until now. Artists include: The UK Bonds, The Pirates, The Dee-Tees, The Gamblers, The Peasants, Barry Benson, The Rats, The Panthers, Rey Anton & The Peppermint Men, The Luvvers, The Times, The Zephyrs, Winston G, The Cheatin' Hearts, Guy Darrell, The Marauders, The Liverpool Five, Tommy Bruce, The Mark Four and Ten Feet.

Title: The Electric Coffee House: 20 Mid-Sixties Garage/Folk Gems

Catalog #: PC 7011CD
...from the USA. The Electric Coffee House is a collection of mid-'60s garage/folk gems from the USA. The album comprises 20 tracks, previously uncomped on CD from such disparate artists as Elvis Presley's favorite garage band, a blind singer discovered by Davy Jones of The Monkees, a Mexican band who had to learn their lyrics phonetically, and the young Terry Jacks (of "Seasons in the Sun" notoriety), plus a host of other harmonizing hopefuls. Prepare to be well and truly jangled. Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7012CD
...from the UK & Europe. With The Sun In My Eyes is a collection of rare psychedelic spins from the UK and Europe. With so many similarly-themed comps around, it's genuinely difficult to come up with 20 killer tracks previously uncomped on CD. However, the Psychic Circle label happily reassures any worried aficionado that the well has not run dry. It may take a little longer for the pebble to hit the water, but when it does, there are still bucketfuls of lysergically-treated fluid to draw up. Here, you'll find Elton John's rhythm section, Hungary's top psych band, an army PE instructor who thought he was the reincarnation of an Egyptian pharaoh, a Swedish Red Indian expert whose brother sold his records door to door, and the man who asked "Where Do You Go To My Lovely?" getting decidedly strange, plus a whole bunch of other psyched-out artistes. Title: Try Me Out: Ballroom Beat Vol. 2
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: PC 7016CD
...20 Previously Uncomped Slices of Prime British Beat 1964-66. Welcome to Try Me Out, 20 tempting portions of prime British beat previously uncomped on CD. Psychic Circle's second-ever release was I Walk The Lonely Night, a collection of British beat rarities which concentrated on the inexplicably overlooked, melodic pop side of the genre. They subtitled the album Ballroom Beat Volume 1 to indicate that the music contained within was a bit more all-embracing than the hard-rocking R&B which emanated from smoky blues basements. What we have here is volume two, full of artistes who typify Saturday night in a provincial dance hall. You'll find a Scottish band who only had records released in Germany, one of Brian Epstein's less successful discoveries, two different early versions of King Crimson, a Coronation Street actor trying his hand at pop, and the band that would soon become Marmalade, plus, of course, a host of further delights. Resistance is futile. Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Bern Elliott & The Klan, The Echo Sounds, The New York Public Library, The League Of Gentlemen, The Rustiks, Marshall Scott Etc., Bobby Shafto, Dean Ford & The Gaylords, The Epics, The Peeps, Chris Sandford & The Coronets, The Gobbledegooks, The Addicts, Sammy King & The Voltairs, Trendsetters Ltd., Gidian, Ricky Ford & The Tennesseans, Don Charles, The Showtimers and The Pathfinders.

Title: Realistic Patterns: Orchestrated Psychedelia from the USA
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7018CD
This compilation rounds up 20 (previously uncomped on CD) tracks, all of which have been enriched, rather than diluted, by orchestration. There has long been a prevailing school of thought that psychedelic bands and orchestras do not mix. Even the compiler, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond), admits he has been guilty in the past of dismissing many a fine track because of the unwelcome intrusion of brass and strings. It was down to bands like The Left Banke, with their innovative use of baroque instrumentation and chord structure, to show that psychedelia could be orchestrated and still sound superb. You'll hear fuzz guitars, flutes, organs, sitars, horns, strings and some strange, strange lyrics. Okay, we concede that the mental image of a mob of penguin-suited, straight-laced classical musicians sawing away over a tripped-out psych backbeat may not appear particularly "rock & roll" (well actually, maybe it does!), but open your ears and your mind, and you cannot fail to be seduced. In among these mellifluous sounds you'll find a future Allman Brother, Texan garage band The Kitchen Cinq operating under a pseudonym, a band of loggers and firemen from the Pacific Northwest who nabbed a brief one-album deal, a former member of Paul Revere & The Raiders, and the man who would become Bruce Springsteen's manager. Step right this way. Artists include: Burned, The Subterranean Monastery, The Moon, Bubble, Compass, Tim Wilde, The Sound Solution, The Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band, The Byzantine Empire, A Handful, Douglas Fir, Gregg Shively, Nobody's Children, The Balloon Farm, Dunn & McCashen, The Visions, Drake, The 31st Of February, Natty Bumpo and The Little Boy Blues.

Title: Phantom Guitars: A Cool Collection of Twangin' Guitar
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7019CD
...Instrumentals from the UK 1961-1964. For a short period in the UK, guitar-led instrumental groups took control. In the three year span between rock & roll and the full flush of beat, there was no bigger band than The Shadows. Their magical brand of twanging melody incorporated elements of Duane Eddy and The Ventures, but was something entirely British. And, as always, when someone comes up with a winning formula, everybody else suddenly leaps on board. So, in contrast to the clean-cut crooners, coffee bars, dancehalls and fairgrounds reverberated to the sound of Binson echo units and primitive Bigsby-esque tremelo arms. This CD ventures back in time a little further than previous Psychic Circle releases to round up a string-bending selection of some the finest examples of this genre. You'll hear an unreleased acetate from the guy who wrote the BBC's Match Of The Day theme, a live stormer from an Irish showband and a gem from Alvin Stardust's first backing band. There's a quick visit to Joe Meek's studios, and a track from The Gladiators without Nero, plus a whole lot more. Specially compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Other artists include: The Falcons, The Krew Kats, The Phantoms, Bobby Taylor, The Hunters, Dennis Newey, The Executives, The Nu-Notes, The Cougars, The Champions, The Fentones, The Gimmicks, Dunhill & Weiser, The Packabeats, The Planets, The Johnny Howard Group, Rhet Stoller, The Players, The Violents, Group X, The Barons, Bob Miller & The Millermen, The Vengers and The Royal Showband, Waterford.

Title: The Room of Loud Sound: Heavy Psych from the USA 1968-72
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7020CD
...White Lace & Strange Vol. 2. The Psychic Circle label presents a follow-up to the White Lace & Strange: Heavy Psych and Power Fuzz from the U.S.A. 68-72 compilation, further delving into the less-frequented areas of late '60s and early '70s heavy psych rock from the USA. Gone are the twee excesses of psychedelia. Whimsy has been given a swift boot in the groin and in its place we find a mean bunch of longhairs getting down to some heavy riffing. Post-Hendrix, sub-Cream, quasi-Zeppelin, some of it primitive, some of it sophisticated, all of it rockin' with amps turned up to eleven plus. On this volume, you'll hear the band that would spawn Cheap Trick, a former member of Dion's Belmonts getting all funked up, the drummer of The Knickerbockers working under a pseudonym, the young Leslie West stretching out, and a whole lot more besides. Laid back it isn't!! Enter The Room Of Loud Sound and live to tell the tale. Twenty never-before comped burners specially compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Hot Soup, Bump, Fuse, Carlo, Five By Five, Plant & See, Morning Sun, Today's Special, Fantasy, Mister Beeler, Peace & Quiet, Six Pak, Salem Witchcraft, The Vagrants, Hammer, Blowtorch, Locomotive, Eagle, The Mystic Number National Bank and Silk.

Title: Blitzing The Ballroom: 20 UK Power Glam Incendiaries
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7021CD
As the '70s took hold of the UK, the colorful expectations of the '60s had all but faded away. The Op Art, the psychedelics and the Victorian militia had been replaced by the greys and browns of geometric wallpaper, the three-day week and the oh-so dull Heath/Wilson pendulum. Splashing a much-needed burst of posterpaint color around came the movement that was to be known as glam-rock. No one minded that its chief protagonists had been round the block a few times before: Marc Bolan, Gary Glitter, Alvin Stardust, Mud, The Sweet, Roy Wood and Slade had all been stomping around with varying degrees of success for many years. Tottering precariously around on silver platforms, made up like provocative pantomime dames, playing a strange drum-heavy confection based on rock & roll mixed with nursery rhyme simplicity, the pop world had its sparkling alternative to the head-nodding complexity of the double concept album. Here's a collection of splendid glam obscurities, all laced with a harder edge, as if to prove that, should the need ever arise, these artistes could more than match their progressive counterparts for rock sensibility. Twenty never-before comped glam-rock sparklers specially compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Title: Breaking Point: 20 Hard-Edged Beat Diamonds
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7023CD
This is the Psychic Circle label's second volume of prime beat mostly from the '60s UK, with a couple of excursions into Europe. So here we all are once again, gathered around the notional Dansette. A tottering stack of vinyl awaits our investigation. Is it gear or is it grotty? Fear not, for we do not have the burden of uncertain critique thrust upon us. All the sounds presented within have passed aural muster, and are straining to enthrall the listener. Unearthed, dusted down, and shoved frugging into the spotlight, we have a top Liverpool band recording under a pseudonym, a British soap star, a Dutch outfit who briefly featured a future UK prog-rock superstar, and a band of hard-rockin' sailors, plus a whole lot more. Specially compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Liverpool Five, Shorty & Them, James Tamlin, The Muldoons, The MI5, The Dennisons, Lee Grant & The Capitols, Hamilton King, Tages, The Dee Tees, The Circles, The Shakers, The Mike Cotton Sound, Lee Curtis & The All Stars, Chris Kerry, Tiffany & The Thoughts, The Moonlighters, George Bean, Kenny & The Wranglers, and Les Cruches.

Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7024CD
...20 Top Prog/Psych Behemoths from the UK and Europe. Seems like only yesterday (probably because it was) that the Psychic Circle label explored some of the uncharted depths of British and European psycho-prog on the first volume of Blow Your Cool. Well, here's another voyage into that dazzling star system. Once again, legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond) has pulled in tracks from the UK and across Europe, and once again, this series will thrill you with as-yet unheard treasures from the patchouli-scented vaults of freaked musical excess. You'll find a splendid UK three-piece band who only issued records on the Continent, and then you'll find another! You'll meet the band who would evolve into the German prog monsters, Wind. There's an Irish show-band illustrating that the prog scene had not passed them by, plus an Essex band who released music on their own label, and a whole lot more besides. Swoon! Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7025CD
...Who Needs Tomorrow Vol. 2. It's been some time since the Psychic Circle label examined the crazed cave paintings of U.S. '60s garage, but now they're back with a skull-clubbin', hair-pullin', loin-cloth full of spear-hurlin' fury. As far as can be ascertained, none of these little beasts have previously appeared on CD compilations, so sit back and be pummelled into submission. Hopefully, you'll find some new pleasures within. First came fire, then came the wheel, and then came garage. You'll hear a child actor get very strange, a slab of evil fuzz from a bunch of French Canadians, a Cleveland DJ going all psychedelic on record, plus a whole lot more. It's primitive, but it's beautiful. Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Group Axis, Kevin Coughlin, Les Hou-Lops, Dee Jay & The Runaways, Jack Eden, Bobby Simms & The Simmers, The Sound Investment, The Bay Ridge, Blue Wood, Bobby Comstock, Southbound Freeway, Dick "Wilde Childe" Kemp, The In Crowd, The Reflektions, The Movers, The Outcasts, Bobby St. Clair, The Outsiders, King Charles & The Counts, and Hex.

Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7026CD
...UK Floor Fillers Vol. 4. Welcome, dear listener, to a world of arrows, targets and multiple rearview mirrors. Racing on big sister's slimming pills and having spent more than is advisable on tight-fitting mohair suits, sharp hairstyling and two-wheel Italian transport, how can a poor suburban soul-boy kick back and relax? And "relax," in this context, does not mean sitting comatose in an armchair. It means forgetting about the office dress code, the factory clocking in and out machine, and the looks of disapproval as you swan down Wardour Street. Here's how: cerebrally ingest the sounds on this CD and move yourself accordingly. The UK and European soul treatments are sure to satisfy any rhythmic cravings. You'll hear an old South London mate of David Bowie, a sweet Irish colleen getting very groovy, one of Sweden's coolest combos, a great South African soulstress, Nottingham's top soul band, Madeleine Bell working under a pseudonym and lots more. So as the Wicked Pickett once advised; don't fight it. Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Dave Hunter, Tina Harvey, Kris Ife, Jon Kane, Johnny Curtis, The Globe Show, Margo, James Royal, Slam Creepers, Al Torino, Una Valli, Johnny Tame, Joe E. Young & The Toniks, The Amboy Dukes, The Underground, Kevin "King" Lear, Currant Kraze, Ronnie Jones, The New Jump Band, and Kenny Bernard.

Title: The Golden Road: The Electric Coffee House Vol. 2
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7027CD
...Further Travels Into Unexplored U.S. Folk Rock Territories. A little while back, the Psychic Circle label took a journey back to the time when American folk music discovered electric rock and pop. The result was The Electric Coffee House compilation. That turned out to be one of the label's most successful albums, so consequently they've been having another delve into that hallowed region of chiming guitars, righteous harmony and garage joy. Once again, Psychic Circle is delighted to present an intriguing selection of obscurities: some primitive, some sophisticated, some psychedelic, some full of pop sensibility, but all of it with an essential, omnipresent undercurrent of folk tradition, albeit filtered through amplifiers and pick-ups, but there nonetheless. You'll hear from Ian Whitcomb's kid brother, Chuck Berry's favorite backing band, the man who wrote "Mr. Bojangles," a future member of Poco, a band featuring the young Bruce Cockburn, and a whole lot more besides. Come travel The Golden Road, let your mind wander free and let your freak flag fly. Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Morning Sun, Bob & Kit, The Woolies, Mc2, The Rovin' Kind, The Last Draft, The Fun & Games, Keith Allison, The Kynd, Raintree, 3's A Crowd, Robin Kingsley, Circus Maximus, The Patriots, The Rogue Show, The Counts IV, The Happy Medium, Jimmy Satan, The Tiffany System, and The Ragamuffins.

Title: File Under: Male Vocal
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7029CD
... The Golden Age of the Beat Balladeer. After enjoying countless compilation albums of psych, beat, garage, girl groups, instrumentals, soul, exotica etc., the Psychic Circle label now releases a compilation which concentrates on that most popular of '60s phenomena, the British male vocalist. These are great tracks and performances that can't really be considered beat, soul or psych, but at the same time conjure a similar sort of mental image. Solid, classy songs performed by great singers which readily evoke the sense of excitement and freshness prevalent in that decade. As legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond) expounds, "What I was trying to assemble for this album was a selection of quality male vocal, with a kind of pop/beat feel. The kind of thing you might have heard in any London discotheque alongside the beat groups, the Stateside soul-sounds, the groovy girls and burgeoning psych riffs. Nothing too MOR or fey, just cool guys doing what they did best. I reckon it's a long overdue examination of a hitherto overlooked genre. It doesn't really need a label, but if you want to give it one, just file under - male vocal." Artists include: Mickey Clarke, Jason Cord, Gerry Deville, Dominic Grant, Nicholas Hammond, Christian Ward, Graham Bell, Jerry Page, Dane Hunter, Brian Keith, Keith Powell, Don Adams, Neil Landon, Greg Hunter, Dave Walton, Danny Street, Dorian Gray, Rudi Bennett, Ronnie Jones, and James Royal.

...26 Cool Early 60s Guitar Instrumentals, Phantom Guitars Vol. 2. For everyone who enjoyed Phantom Guitars Vol. 1, and also for those who never heard it, here's a great new selection of classic guitar instrumentals from the early 1960s. Most of the tracks are British, but there are a few European acts included as well. Welcome to 26 slices of music so evocative, you can almost taste the candy floss, almost feel the buffeting of the dodgems (trans. bumper cars), almost smell the perfume of the beehived beauties. If you ever wanted a fun-fair in your own living room, this is the next best thing. If, on the other hand, you never fancied a roller coaster in your residence, this is definitely a far better option. You'll swoon to a combo from Gloucester, part of whom ended up in an Israeli prog band, a solo outing from the guitarist of The Tornadoes, an early aggregation of The Peddlers, an Australian Hawaiian guitarist, a Frenchman who became the first-ever Caucasian to stand for the Japanese Parliament, Bristol's top guitar twangers, and many more. Me? I'm off for another go on The Waltzer. Compiled by Psychic Circle label-head and legendary psych musician Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Subtitled: Orchestrated Psychedelia from the USA. The Psychic Circle label presents a second volume in their Realistic Patterns series. It is now time to take another cruise through similar oceans, with 20 tracks during which one can visit the house band at Sammy Davis Jr.'s Hollywood club, an ex-member of The Leaves getting rather groovy, the lead singer of The Third Bardo doing his solo thing, a song from the man behind The Banana Splits, and an old bandmate of a pre-Byrds Chris Hillman. Catalog #: PC 7033CD
...British Rock 'n' Roll Spins. In the mid-1950s, while the Western World was still immersed in the aftermath of World War II, a new concept was discovered. This concept, stroppy and rebellious, was the teenager. Up until then, you were a child until you became an adult. One minute you were in short pants, the next you were smoking a pipe. Now there was an intermediary stage, during which you could experience the nascent pleasures of adulthood without having to succumb to its more mundane disciplines. These new teenagers needed new idols. They couldn't relate to the polite swing of the dance bands. Some found modern jazz a bit too esoteric, while, to be honest, the heart-throbs of the early '50s mostly looked like they were in their early 50s! Suddenly a wild, new sound from the USA was being broadcast over select airwaves. Singers with exotic names like Jerry Lee, Elvis, Buddy and Gene were strutting their stuff. Hollywood was beginning to embrace this movement, and, over in The UK, jazzmen, dance band members, crooners and hopeful kids were suddenly buying guitars, greasing back their hair and rockin' like there was no tomorrow. Here's a selection of what was happening in the basements and coffee bars of Britain at that most wonderful and innocent of times. We've got lids to be flipped, joints to be rocked and rugs to be cut. So what are you waiting for? Artists include: Jimmy Crawford, Cal Danger, Danny Rivers, Art Baxter & His Rock 'N' Roll Sinners, Tommy Bruce & The Bruisers, Wee Willie Harris, Ricky James, Roy Young, Tony Crombie & The Rockets, Derry Hart & The Hartbeats, Mike Sagar & The Cresters, Danny Hunter & The Giants, Terry Dene, Don Lang & His Frantic Five, Vince Eager, Dean Webb, Clyde Ray, Janice Peters, Sharkey Todd & The Monsters, Jimmy Miller & The Barbecues, Dickie Pride, Duffy Power, Billy Sproud & The Rock 'N' Roll Six, Terry Wayne, and Vince Taylor & The Playboys.

Title: Music For Mentalists: Unexpected Sounds For The Connoisseur
Label: PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PC 7034CD
Perhaps the first question should be why? For what warped reason did some misguided record executive think that any of the music contained within this compilation was worth releasing on a commercial basis? Whose twisted vision saw these tracks racing up the charts? In fact, who thought that anybody, apart from those with an equally cracked view of the world, would rush to their local record shop to snap up even one of these bizarre items? But then again, perhaps it doesn't really matter at all, and we should just be grateful that these skewed slices of strangeness were pressed up and are still to be found lurking in dark corners of dust-shrouded record racks, thrift stores and flea markets. Mick Dillingham has devoted many years of vinyl hunting to unearthing the obscure, the peculiar, and in some cases, the downright disturbing. Here, Psychic Circle is delighted to present a selection of his personal favorites. Thrill to a Yiddish version of "Rock Around The Clock," groove to a song about aliens landing in Northampton, shimmy to a disco-ball version of Pink Floyd's "Arnold Layne," sit open-mouthed at the late Michael Elphick's deeply worrying paean to kidnap and date-rape (it can't be, can it?), weep along with the moving tribute to Sefton, the cavalry horse blown up by the IRA. Emotions you never knew you had will be brought to the surface. Will it change your life? Probably not, but it will bring some unusual and welcome color into it. Please join the Psychic Circle label in thanking Mr. Dillingham for his tireless endeavors in seeking out hidden gems that would otherwise have remained undiscovered. Artists include: Max Bygraves, Bali, Il Pirata, Laura Huxley, Linda Jardim, Balsara & His Singing Sitars, Reginald Bosanquet, Cadbury's Singers, David McCallum, Mickey Katz, Swingin' Thorn, Rusty Goffe, Rosebud, Martin Harvey, Al Hirt, Steve Bowley, Rene & Renata, Jim Bowen, Hylda Baker, Xaviera Hollander, Mavin James, Edd Byrnes, David Carradine, Paul Damian, Paul Frees, John Collier, Peter Anthony, Joe Loss, Michael Elphick, Tina Harvey, Bert Landers, The Barclay Supergroup, and Cathy Berberian.
