Qbico U-nite in New York I
Label:
QBICO (ITALY)
Format:
2LP
Price:
$40.00
Catalog #:
QBICO 024/25LP
"Thunderously heavy two LP set from Qbico documenting a night in New York where some of the hardest working lungs still in the service of liberated fire -- Arthur Doyle, Perry Robinson, Daniel Carter, Charles Waters, Shanir Ezra Blummenkranz and Andrew Barker -- plotted various tactical formations with brains of a whole other order, including Ed Wilcox of Temple Of Bon Matin, Nuuj of Pengo/Asthmatic, Dave Cross Of Coffee, Leslie Q and Vinnie Paternostro. Freely-improvised avant-guerilla spurt in the spirit of the LAFMS/MEV and avant/rock coalitions like BAG. First time Doyle has played together with Robinson and Carter since the loft-scene days of the 1970s...Comes in absurd full-colour gatefold sleeve with poem from Steve Dalachinsky. Both LPs pressed on colour, psychedelic vinyl."

Makoto Kawabata early works 1978-1981
(ltd. ed. 100 copies only). "This is a music that I originally composed for a play called
Alice in Nakedland
. The play was some erotic expressionist nonsense, sort of like
Alice in Wonderland
and
Dr. Caligari's Crime
added together then divided by two. My script was used, but my music was rejected by the other staff members." -- M. Kawabata.

D'SILVA, AMANCIO
Title:
Konkan Dance
Label:
QBICO (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$22.00
Catalog #:
QBICO 047LP
"This is a really special goody: an unreleased magical rec. made in 1972 by Indian-born guitarist Amancio D'Silva (1936-1996) with some of the most renowned jazz musicians from the UK scene of the time: Don Rendell, Stan Tracey & Alan Branscombie. It was supervised by fabled producer Denis Preston and originally planned for release on Columbia/EMI but that never happened, probably due to Preston's passing... Qbico is really pleased to be able to present for the 1st time this really fascinating music as it was originally supposed to be: on LP. This had been possible thanks to Amancio's son Stephano, who fortunately still owns the original 1/4" stereo master tape. It was rec. @ the famous Lansdowne Studios, London where many legendary sessions had been cut (there was even a 'Lansdowne Series' issued by Columbia: Don Rendell/Ian Carr 5ets, Joe Harriot, Neil Ardley). Unfortunately, Amancio's music is not so well known but he rec. fantastic records such as
Integration
,
Cosmic Eye
, his solo
Reflections
and
Hum-dono
with Joe Harriot (one of the cornerstones of British jazz) and he's surely a cult figure; in fact, all these mentioned records are really sought after and usually fetch high prices (all issued by Columbia/EMI).
Konkan Dance
in particular is a very airy and exotic set with longish tunes, featuring tabla & sitar, often trip-hop-esque kit playing, a canyonous guitar ambience and a one-of-a-kind psychedelic feel throughout! For sure one of the most exciting example of advanced jazz influenced/infected by Indian feelings/flavours!"
Artist:
MURUGA & THE GLOBAL VILLAGE CEREMONIAL BAND
Title:
Label:
QBICO (ITALY)
Format:
LP
Price:
$22.00
Catalog #:
QBICO 048LP
"New rocket by Muruga, after the
Free Funk
LP! This healing session opens and closes with two funk/jazz tracks, rec. by Muruga in trio & 4et with Ken Kozara on muted trumpet and Richard Smith on bass; Belita Woods, from P-Funk, is added on the last track of the album, 'May The Funk Be With You.' The middle of the record is mostly perc. heavy and trance/ethnic oriented. 'Ascension' had been written by the late master Baba Olatunji and had been rec. live @ The Spirit Drum Fest. w/special guest Badal Roy (who rec. w/Miles Davis, Ornette, Don Cherry, ect...) and Sikiru Adepoju (who rec. w/Mickey Hart, Olatunji, ect..). 'Nelson Ledges' is a drums trio rec. live as well @ The Rhythm Fest in Ohio. 'Out of Nothing' is a very special duo piece rec. w/Prem Das: here Muruga uses a unique Nada drum, while Prem Das (long years of apprenticeship in Mexico with a Huichol shaman and was also a colleague of Timothy Leary & Ralph Metzner) uses a water drum for a quite hypnotic effect ! Open your heart and let your body move... to the rhythm, to the groove!"

Fun House
session in 1970 (and rejoined them in 2003 when they played their first show in 29 years at the Coachella Festival, and he has performed with them ever since + rec. two more albums)... nearly 25 years later he got involved w/Radon Ensemble, which includes members from such disparate groups such as Temple of Bon Matin & the Arthur Doyle EAE (Paternostro/Wilcox), Nimrod (Lohman), Koonda Holaa (Kamilsky), ect... the 10 tracks from his 3rd release as a leader (1st being a recent collaboration w/Smegma issued on CD + Michigan and Arcturus, as well on CD) are the highlights from live or radio sessions rec. over a two year span: 2004/06. Musically speaking you're on a magic carpet for a wild ride: they rock hard and swing free with whimsical & powerful electronic touches... it's really a unique ride in his genre!"

Green vinyl with grey. "Pengo is: John Schoen, Jason Finkbeiner, R. Nuuja. Pengo comes from Rochester, NY and are simply a dark-bright beacon of madness in the subterranean swamp of psychedelic junk collectors. They're kind of elusive, having issued only an LP prior to this release (it had been a year since we're working on this album) + a few CD-Rs and tapes. Got affiliations with Coffee & the Doyle EAE... wild stuff/weird vibes!"

Price:

Catalog #:
QBICO 062LP
"I met these very young and promising fellas at the Qbico U-nite I did in Aarhus and to me this is the most exciting music coming out of Denmark right now, with Family Underground included, of course. Here they presented a very varied set, starting with some electronic trance inducing music by Marc Gade, to followed by an ad hoc baroque drunken marching band live from a Poland tour. Side B starts with another beautiful & melancholic all acoustic affair (mostly stringed) and ends with an improvised electro-acoustic number of magical and fragile beauty. Marc Gade one day was reading a Shirley Collins text where she explained that true love came from the root of an old Danish word:
trulofa
."

Recorded live @ Dynamo Klubi on March 11, 2006 by Mikko Lagernohm. "Two unique sides: on side A you'll hear a rare meeting among Rakhim (Circle's more dark side project) and Hans-Joachim Irmler from legendary Faust! While on side B, a two male/two female playful affair (Qbico's idea) among brothers Tolvi (Rahun Orkesteri) and Antti Tolvi's wife Lau Nau with Kuupuu. True united spirit and perfect balance between both sides with opposite moods..." Pressed on blue marbled vinyl.

GEERKEN, HARTMUT
Title:
Amanita
Label:
QBICO (ITALY)
Format:
2LP
Price:
$42.00
Catalog #:
QBICO 075LP
"Practically impossible to make it brief here, H. Geerken: author, composer, musician, film-maker, performer, actor, mycologist, archivist, stager of exhibitions, publisher of numerous authors from the circle of literary expressionism and Dada, lumberjack, bumble-bee keeper. During his six-year stay in Egypt in the '60s, he co-founded (together with Salah Ragab and Edu Vizvari) the Cairo Jazz Band as well as the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble, played in various music groups: Embryo, a trio with John Tchicai and Don Moye (extensive tour of Africa) and also with the Art Ensemble of Chicago. He worked with Sunny Murray, Don Cherry, Okay Termiz, Peter Kowald, Takehisa Kosugi, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta, etc. Today Geerken possesses one of the most comprehensive Sun Ra archives. His book
Omniverse Sun Ra
(1994) , which contains the first all-embracing discography of the musician, has meanwhile grown to be a priceless cult book. Together with James Wolf from the Library Of Congress in Washington D.C., he is editor of the recently published collected poems and philosophical works of Sun Ra (
The Immeasurable Equation
, 2005). This is Geerken's first-ever solo release (a major event indeed!) and it was recorded under the influence of magic mushrooms (dried amanita muscaria). One of the instruments played here is Sun Ra's Sun harp (a Bulgarian
bandura
), which Sun Ra gave him in 1971 in Egypt, where Hartmut invited the Arkestra to play. They didn't get any money to fly back to the States, so Hartmut kindly borrowed them some bread for the trip back... in exchange, Sun Ra gave him his Sun harp (which you'd hear on several Saturn LPs and which was one of the few instruments that Sun Ra played besides keyboards) saying I'll buy it back from you one day... which evidently never happened. The other string instrument played here is a
swarmandal
, which was given to him in 1976 in New Delhi by the renowned Dhrupad singers: the Dagar brothers. Probably the wildest Qbico ever... alien sounds!" Originally recorded on May 11, 1995. Parts of this are as screwed up as as something like the Seventh Sons'
4 A.M. At Frank's
-- killer.

Catalog #:
QBICO 078LP
"Cow's milk vinyl, artworks and music by Chris Pottinger, with insert. Side A originally released as a limited edition CD-R art set in 100 copies on Tasty Soil, Creature. B1 track is unreleased, recorded in 2007. B2 originally released in 2006 on Fag Tapes as a side of a tour cassette with Sick Llama. B3 was played as a loop for 8 months straight on a pirate radio station that broadcast out of the Cloud House on 107.9 FM. Far-out electronic music for the third millennium! The track on side A is side long and totally insane (don't know but I hear echoes of Kawabata's solo on Qbico #11, could be a new step/continuation?!), my amplifier's pointers never went so schizophrenic! Side B starts with a short electronic meditation thinned out by pure acid. The middle piece is long and it grows on you, deeper and deeper. This futuristic rocket ends with a mesmerizing short track that was broadcast as a loop on a pirate radio station for 8 consecutive months! All in tune: the cover, the vinyl color, the music AND the creatures! An exhibition (curated by Thurston Moore) of Chris Pottinger's fine artwork was displayed at the latest No Fun Fest."

They kindly brought some odd clouds at the Qbico U-nite I did in 2007, along with some special gifts, so I immediately liked them! The music is simply one of the most exciting ever released on Qbico, as well as the artwork. Hear, see and feel to believe in some mighty clouds."
