Artist: COLECLOUGH/TIM HILL, JONATHAN
Title: Beech For John and Miho
Label: SEAL POOL
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: SPOOL 001CD
"Beech for John and Miho was originally commissioned as a short piece for 'in return', a private wedding CD, where it appeared alongside music by Joe Weismann (The Jaztronauts), If Thousands, JLIAT, and Space Machine. That fifteen minute version then blossomed into this bold, 74-minute work. An invitation to the wedding spawned a short Japan tour during which Coleclough performed solo and in duos with Aube, Kuwayama Kiyohara, and Narita Mamoru. An epic piece: shimmering and metallic."

Artist: SANDERSON, PHILIP
Title: Seal Pool Sounds
Label: SEAL POOL
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SPOOL 002CD
"Seal Pool Sounds is the first CD release of new material from Snatch Tapes founder, Organum Collaborator, and British installation artist, Philip Sanderson. Seal Pool Sounds picks up where Sanderson's Storm Bugs project left off sometime in 1981. Sanderson's DIY software and electronics conjure whimsical, plaintive electronic tones and rhythms: sounds that recollect the light-hearted, yet melancholy nature of the 20th century zoos. Seal Pool Sounds is a natural extension of his Reprint CD on Anomalous Records, and at once evokes LAFMS, Raymond Scott, Marcel Duchamp, and French New Wave film music."

Artist: COELACANTH & KEITH EVANS
Title: Wrack Light In Copper Ruin
Label: SEAL POOL
Format: CD/DVD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SPOOL 003CD
"Jim Haynes and Loren Chasse have collaborated with Keith Evans to create Coelacanth's fourth and most complex record. Culled from two performances -- a five-hour recording session during Matmos's 96 hours of performances at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and an audio/visual performance with Keith Evans -- Wrack Light in Copper Ruin explores the symbiosis of materiality and sound, and its infinite network of metaphors and allegories. Like an abandoned aquarium in which an accidental and incongruous microcosm takes shape, Coelacanth's sound illustrates a constant evolution of decay, encroachment, and repossession of the border space between the natural and the man-made. Comparatively, Wrack Light is more delicate than Coelacanth's previous recordings, inhabiting a space where artists such as Jonathan Coleclough, Andrew Chalk, Mirror, and MNortham can be found, yet it maintains the mysterious, oceanic nature its name implies."

Artist: HAIGH AND SILENT STORM, ROBERT
Title: From The Air
Label: SEAL POOL
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: SPOOL 004CD
"Robert Haigh is best known for his innovative drum and bass work of the '90s. But some may know him from the early '80s where he was part of a circle of 'musicians' carving out a niche in experimental, ambient, electronic and avant-garde music. Alongside artists such as Nurse With Wound, Current 93 and Hafler Trio, Haigh produced a much sought-after series of albums and EPs under the name Sema. In the late '80s, Haigh grew tired of the simplistic equation that experimental = noise/dissonance (exclusively), and decided to expand his horizons, experimenting with computers and samplers. In the early '90s, he signed to the legendary Moving Shadow label and produced a series of highly-acclaimed albums and singles under the name Omni Trio. With From The Air we come bang up-to-date with Haigh's career. This album finds a common ground between the approaches of the two previous decades. Here the use of breaks is minimal and employed only as a component part of a track's structure ('Shift Work,' 'Three Revolutions' etc.). On 'X-Generation' and the title track 'From the Air,' piano and keyboards are to the fore, providing a tapestry of interlocking counterpoint where melody is exploited minimally in shifting patterns to build the momentum of the tracks. Some pieces are mainly solo piano reminiscent of the atmospheric and haunted work of Sema (A Secret Place, River Man, Evolution Crawls etc.). This collection of 'post minimalist sonic landscapes' (Wikipedia) utilizes complex time signatures, layers of shifting counterpoint, deeply haunting melodic phrasing and atmospheric production to present a hugely satisfying yet challenging sonic journey."
