Artist: THE SPOILS OF WAR
Title: The Spoils of War
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 001CD
"CD version of this 1969 'psych-concrete' masterpiece (previously issued on Shadoks as an über-pricey LP/7" EP set as well as an LP edition "as texture sleeve plus 7" EP, 25 numbered copies") that would certainly qualify for 'private-press' status were it originally released in 1969. Spearheaded by James Cuomo, a student of Professor Herbert Brün (WDR studios heavy during the 50's; worked alongside Beyer/Eimert, Stockhausen, Gottfried-Michael Koening, later taught at the university of Illinois... 4 recent CD's on EMF fill in a few gaps) whom also designed the original cover (CD/LP reissue cover uses Malcolm Smith's 1954 'Imagination' painting to rather appropriate affect). Includes the 3 aforementioned 7" tracks (credited solely to James Cuomo) from 1970. Some rather inspired promotional muckery would lead you to believe: "Never pressed before so you don´t have to look for originals, folks. Heavy Psych with tiny folky edges plus electronic soundscapes like first album by Mothers of Invention. Has a connection to Mormos but only the musicians, not the music. This is real heavy Acid stuff, weird and twisted, stoned to max, pure LSD (Loud Screaming Distortions), Warning, people with fragile heart condition and emotionally unbalanced should not play this album....". It actually sounds nothing like that (although the Mothers reference isn't too off base), but contains some rather twisted musique concrete interludes (what could be more ideal than the tonal vocabulary of tape music fed through the medulla of a Cest-Coast-wannabe hippie-freak beatnik circa 1969?) that weave throughout some pretty damaged era-ideals-in-song-form replete with O/T guitar solo bits, flute, organ & the rest." -- Hrvatski.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 004CD
"This album was released as a test-pressing only and recorded in the US Midwest 1970. Nothing is known about this album, a mystery like Jungle. 10 great heavy tracks loaded with extra heavy fuzz-guitar, organ and souly male vocals. The guy sings like a male Janis Joplin, the music sounds like a tough version of Big Brother & Holding Comp. Nothing for sweet psychfolk fans. This is big-boys-stuff. Heavy and full of soul. It bites." Fake R. Crumb artwork, ala Cheap Thrills.

Restock of this 1999 reissue; the original LP recently sold on eBay for over $10,000. Famously included in Paul Major's "Top Five of Weird Underground Psych/Folk", as revealed in Vice magazine. First CD reissue of this strange late 60s set of artifacts (previously reissued as an elaborate 2LP set on Little Indians). ""California deep Psychedelic loner. Acid leads, mystical vocals, tons of effects, completely stoned feeling. Came out as 2 single albums and even more limited as a double album. Only 3 copies known. The music is outta space psychedelic with great songs and beautiful vocals. A real killer from beginning to end."

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 008CD
"CD reissue of this private press album by this 60s band from San Diego. The music is absolutely perfect fuzz guitar psych with great rhythm guitars, organs and Sgt. Pepper-style vocals. With more luck this band could have been as famous as the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Steppenwolf, two bands with which they shared many bills. Only five copies of the original LP are known to exist. CD contain many bonus tracks, 20 tracks total." Previously reissued on LP by Rockadelic.

Artist: BRIGADE
Title: Last Laugh
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 011CD
Reissue of this obscure LP release from 1970, originally from the Pacific Northwest. "This is one of our all-time favorite album when it comes to Underground & Psychedelic music. One of ten we would take on an island. Full of dynamic and strong fuzz guitar solos, driving drums and amazing vocals, which deserves this official reissue. We located tons of unknown photo materials which will be included in the booklet and some liner notes will give you the full background of the band. We can even include all tour dates the band made between 1967 and 1970. (Originals are impossible to find because only 100 copies were made at the time and some even had the wrong record in)."

Artist: JUAN DELA CRUZ
Title: Up In Arms
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 013CD
"Reissue of the unknown Juan De La Cruz album originally released in 1971.With 30 minutes of extra live tracks released for the first time. Juan De La Cruz were from the Philippines and this is their debut album. LP originals are very obscure and valued at $2000. The album is a beautiful heavy Psych Rock jammer, better than all the other albums released by the band. An incredible view into early '70s psychedelic rock madness, from the Philippines!

Artist: CANDIDA PAX
Title: Day
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 015CD
Day was originally released in 1971. Besides Parameter, this is the rarest release on U.K. Deroy label, as rare as Forever Amber & Dark. If you're into Tony, Caro & John and Then Play On-era Fleetwood Mac, then this is your cup of tea. This is pure Underground with that bluesy Peter Green-like guitar and a folky edge. All original songs and all beauties. Heavy fuzz-guitar, piano, effects -- the whole U.K. Underground thing. A killer album from beginning to the end.

Artist: NEW TWEEDY BROS!, THE
Title:
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 018CD
Reissue of the lone album this SF-based psych band, originally issued in 1966. This is a legit reissue, with three bonus tracks (now packaged in regular jewel case). "This album became to most sought after Psych album and so many collectors love it. It was recorded in 1968. New Tweedy where based in San Francisco and played several times at the Fillmore with bands such as Grateful Dead, Them, Beach Boys and 13th Floor Elevators. Because of a very bad management this album never had an official release and came only out as a very limited pressing way back than. Every track is a winner." "Even better is the much-rumored but long-lost music inside, which manages to hit all the worthwhile points of early-SF songage in a way that often betters their more-known contemps. Starting from a sorta jugband/Byrds base (surprise), they head straight out from there: 'What's wrong With That' kicks up a kazoo-led jug-blues wail that leaves even the Charlatans just sitting there; 'Wheels of Fortune' deals in a mystic-folk code so obscure that it achieves some weird protest anthem status, at least until somebody flips a switch and the cosmos stops by for a visit; 'I Can See It' is the sorta driving folk-pounding that Moby Grape or the Springfield woulda killed for, with a great spaced/jazzy drop at the end.; and so on, and so on.... Every cut kills , the sound is nicely lo-fi, and this one pushes all the right buttons with a naïvely blasted optimism that's really hard to put into words but that will absolutely slay anyone whose head is into this stuff." -- Kevin Moist

Artist: BETTY
Title: Handful
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 019CD
1971: Sierra Madre, California, USA. Hard psychedelic boogie biker rock: not just another hard-psych CD full of unknowns. This record beats most others in the genre with amazing heavy fuzz guitar, great vocals, organs, the whole thing. If you like Moby Grape, Brigade or Butterfingers, we think this is even better. Hideously rare hard-rocker from Los Angeles, CA. Try to imagine Dragonfly merging with Canned Heat and you'll be close. Only 200 copies were pressed as original LPs and sold by the band at gigs, so this record is incredibly rare. If you like crude, powerful heavy rock, this one is not to be missed.

Artist: FRESH BLUEBERRY PANCAKE
Title: Heavy
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 022CD
"This band was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They formed in 1968 and by 1970 they were performing primarily original material which necessitated the recording of the demo album. Only 54 copies were pressed, and they were used for promotion... it's now rather difficult to locate. It ranges from post-Hendrix/Blue Cheer brain-numbingly heavy acid-rock (watch out for the opener, Hassles), through bluesy moods, lighter jazzy touches, to jangly almost-folk-rock restraint. The lyrics occasionally head in a religious direction but are not preachy; the overall feel is more one of 'Old Crow' than 'Old Testament'. Fresh Blueberry Pancake shortened their name to Pancake before calling it quits in 1972. Extra heavy West Coast Psych (like Butterfingers) with a touch of Country & Western."

Artist: SHIVER
Title: San Francisco's
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 023CD
"Rising from the same scene of Texas freaks like The 13th Floor Elevators, Johnny Gee & The G Men, and a pre-ZZ Top, Warlocks, Shiver moved to SF and this CD documents their complete output of early '70s heavy psychedelic rock. In a city known for peace, love and flower power, Shiver was an over the top, in your face, balls to the wall 'gang' of musicians that felt at home with Hell's Angels and hippies alike. Free love, free dope. Shiver played a lot of Street Fairs on Haight, Market and Castro streets, and got to jam with guys from Big Brother (Gurley & Albin) and other local heroes. These recordings were done on a two-track machine at 2909 Mariposa in the Summer Of '72 and feature no overdubs or studio 'wizardry.' What you hear on these tracks is Shiver in its raw, powerful glory."

Artist: MY INDOLE RING
Title: My Indole Ring
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 024CD
"The home base for My Indole Ring was The Retinal Circus in Vancouver B.C. An album planned for Vanguard Records is now released for the first time. Acid West Coast rock with trippy guitars, sound effects and vocals with soul. With bonus tracks. In 1966 a rock band whimsically named The Jabberwock was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia. This group evolved into the unique acid/blues/rock phenomenon My Indole Ring. Most of the songs on this LP are original Ring compositions and soon became signature tunes for the band, such as Orange Float Petals. This is a selection of raw cuts recorded in just one or two takes in the studio -- giving them a spontaneous feel, reminiscent of the era. The exception is the last three songs -- 'Wake Me Shake Me', 'Come See Me in the Morning', and 'Orange Float Petals -- all recorded live at the Retinal Circus. You can sit back and imagine yourself in the midst of the sunken dance floor with the pulsating light show swirling about your head and the floors and walls literally vibrating with the movement and sound. This is a unique insight into the unbridled energy and excitement of the Retinal Circus, a venue that became legendary in the West Coast music scene. A glimpse into a piece of music history."

Artist: SPECTRUM
Title: Geração Bendita
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 027CD
"If you like Modulo 1000 you'll love this one. Maybe the best Psych album ever released in Brazil with heavy guitar sounds, beautiful vocals and well-crafted songs. A hippy soundtrack starring the band itself. The movie was banned in Brazil. Geração Bendita (Blessed Generation). It was 1971, two years after Woodstock, and the Brazilian youth were still trying to live the hippie dream of the 'Age of Aquarius', even though a little late. In the wave of peace and love, a group of young musicians and moviemakers from Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro, dove into the production of what became known as 'the first Brazilian hippie movie'. Entitled Geração Bendita, the movie, directed by Carlos Bini and shot in Rio, has become something of a cult classic, remembered for both its visual imagery of the period and the rare and wonderful Original Soundtrack album that it spawned. Recorded in the studios of Todamérica in Rio de Janeiro, the album, also called Geração Bendita is credited to Spectrum, formed by the ex-members of the 2000 Volts band and actors/musicians appearing in the movie. The album assembles twelve songs with lyrics in Portuguese and some in English, most of them speaking about peace, love, freedom, nature and other themes and meaningful values of that time. Accentuated with plenty of fuzz guitars and vocals in a 'Beatles-style', the record was hailed as a world-class production and the talents of the group above the national standard of that time."

Artist: PEACEPIPE
Title: Peacepipe
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 029LP
"In 1995 Rockadelic released this album on vinyl. Finally here it is with all extra tracks, photos etc. on LP again. Extra heavy psych, great guitars and vocals. This unreleased late 1960s heavy guitar-psych classic is probably (along with Cold Sun), also a previous Rockadelic LP, with widest appeal among mainstream psych fans. Despite being just 3 guys with no bass player, a dense wall of hard psychedelia is erected with moments as intense as Fraction. The opening 'Sea of nightmares' is one of the best heavy psych tracks ever laid down, while cool remnants of teen garage and lounge/schmaltz add to the LP's underground appeal. Powerful, non-macho vocals and Jon Uzonyi's triple-tracked feedback guitars makes this blow away 20th Century Zoo, Savage Resurrection, Dragonfly, etc., stunning and solid."Numbered edition of 500 housed in a heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing; includes double-sided insert.

Artist: SHUTTAH
Title: The Image Maker Vol. 1 & 2
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 030CD
This is the rarest of unknown, anonymous English prog-psych from 1971, with only one known copy left in existence -- a perfect acetate. The Image Maker Vol. 1 & 2 is a real underground concept album with a progressive touch that only needs a few spins to get it right. Well-crafted songs, great vocals, sound-effects, organ and heavy fuzz guitar all combine to make up one of the better albums on the Vertigo label with a good dose of acid in it. Shadoks Music spoke to Geoff Oliver, the former owner of IBC recording studios, but he could not remember any of the recordings made by Shuttah in his studio -- there were just too many engineers busy at the same time, during those golden days of the London underground, where studios were recording music which became big hits. IBC was famous for making recordings for bands such as The Kinks, The Who and The Beatles, plus many, many others, which leads one to the conclusion that this recording of Shuttah was very expensive to make, so there MUST be a famous musician behind it. The recording, arrangements and concepts are on a very high professional level. Even a search at UK copyright control did not show any results revealing the identity of who, exactly, Shuttah was. Since the original acetates appeared many years ago, this is still a very provocative unsolved mystery of the UK underground. The word Shuttah is a religious reference, if you have a Bible handy. The title of the album The Image Maker also suits the religious meaning.

Artist: THE SPOILS OF WAR
Title: II
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 033CD
Originally released in 1968/70, and headed by Jim Cuomo, this is a follow-up album of unreleased live and studio material from The Spoils of War, previously released as a double LP. The Spoils Of War made some of the most inspiring but strange music from the '60s, in the same awe-inspiring vein as early Mothers Of Invention. This is music with a hearty intellectual background, combined with well-crafted and well-performed music in the key of Zappa. Other influences might indicate early Soft Machine, Slap Happy, Henry Cow and Faust. For open-minded listeners, The Spoils of War are a must: experiments with electronic sounds, compositions and performances of beautiful harmonies and songs, and all circa 1967/68. How in the world could he make music like this so early? Well, it must have been the inspiring influence of Jim Cuomo's musical teacher John Cage. Even today the music of The Spoils Of War goes far beyond most other modern pop music and will be inspiring for many years from now.

Artist: MENDELBAUM
Title: Mendelbaum
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 034CD
"Mendelbaum was different. Musically led by the lightning fast, ripping licks of Chris Michie's cherry-red 1968 Gibson SG Special (later stripped to the wood and emblazoned with a bald eagle medallion from an officer's hat) and fueled by the 'sturm und drang' of Tom La Varda?s pick-up modified Guild bass, and Keith Knudsen's Ludwig drums, they played and sang hard and fast, loud and high. While their colleagues, the Doobie Brothers, were singing about how 'Jesus Was Just Alright' for them and that we should all just 'Listen to the Music', Mendelbaum was quite a bit darker in nature. Chris Michie sang about 'Learning To Die' and similar subjects not usually shared at the love-ins and the pot-fueled discussions of how 'beautiful and groovy' everything was in the sixties. Ahead of their time, or simply coming around again in the cycle of life and of music, Mendelbaum defied commercialism and categorization in their hey-day over thirty years ago. Their thoughtful songs and brilliant playing continue even today to fly in the face of the corporate, pre-marketed 'cool' that pervades our popular music culture. Mendelbaum's music, like any true art form, functioned on many levels. First, it provided a catharsis for them as writers and musicians. Secondly, it reached out to countless fans in the sixties and seventies, acknowledging their own pain and isolation. Finally, Mendelbaum's music is returning today to echo the strains of an era long gone, yet in many ways as current as today."

Warehouse find of the last copies of this 2002 reissue. "Best recordings we ever had, from Masters. Real Westcoat Rock with extra heavy Psych guitar played by Chris Michie who later joined Van Morrison, with Keith Knudsen on drums (Doobie Brothers). 21 tracks all original, well-crafted songs, was a demo for WB and the 2nd album is live recorded at Fillmore West by Bill Graham & Matrix S.F. Real cookin' San Francisco sound."

Artist: SOUND FACTORY
Title: Sound Factory
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 035CD
"1970 brought mixed feelings for Brazilians. Victory at the World Cup was an all-too-brief distraction from the dictatorial regime that was ruling the country. At that time, doing 'art', whatever it was -- music, painting, literature -- was a way of achieving some kind of freedom. And soon Sound Factory started to rehearse. Their first gig was at the Vale do lpí Country Club in a working-class suburb of Rio. Of the 10 tracks on the album, there were only three originals: 'Restless Time', 'Let's Go', and 'Midnight Inspiration'. The others were covers from Traffic, Blind Faith, Johnny Winter, It's A Beautiful Day, Jefferson Airplane and Cream. Amazing Hard Psych. A real beauty. The guitar sound screams like hell. Very few known original copies."

Artist: LOVE DEPRESSION
Title: The Love Depression
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 037CD
Venezuela 1968. Band members were 17 to 18 years old at the time of the recording. Guitarist Alvaro Falcón came from a band called The Snobs and previously a band from Washington D.C. The Laymen, Richard Aumaitre came from a famous Venezuelan band Los Darts and Jesus Toro from The Nasty Pillows, a local soul and Hendrix oriented band. What an amazing record this is. On same label as Ladies WC. This masterpiece is full of fuzz guitar, acid leads and pumping sounds. Covers only this time but played so wild that you will like it better than the original composition. This album is as good as Ladies WC. Realy amazing Psych artwork too." Alvaro Falcón: (Guitar, Piano, Organ, Harmonica, Background vocals), he was 17 at the time; Jesus "Torito" Toro: (Drums and Lead vocals); Richard Aumaitre: (Bass and Background vocals). Recorded in Estudios Continente,Caracas, Venezuela April 1968.

Title: See The Morning / No Savage Word
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 038CD
First CD reissue of both Mick Stevens albums, originally released in 1972/75, and extremely unknown. Stevens is credited on: words and music, vocals, guitars, banjo, percussion, bouzoukitars. "Loner vibe, beautiful vocals, a mixture of acoustic and electric numbers. If you like Michael Angelo with a Billy Nichols touch, this one is yours. The recording quality is top major studio. Both albums where pressed at Deroy studios, the famous collectors label among Psych and Folk freaks. All Deroy albums are rare because you could press as little as 10 copies for a start. So most Deroy production are under 100 copies pressed. Some famous Deroy LP's are: Candida Pax, Parameter, Complex, Circulation...This 2 album set, which features that came out separately in 1972 and 1975, beats all other Deroy productions, sound-wise and music-wise. Mick Stevens was able to create a sound of emotions with an underground touch. Just like in the movie Blow Up."

Artist: IOTA
Title: Iota
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 042CD
"From the archives of the legendary El Paso, Texas Suemi label comes this previously unreleased psych masterpiece by Iota. This 4 piece band tore up Texas before re-locating to Memphis to record for Hi Records in the late 60's. They released two great 45's, including the amazing Within These Precincts in 1971. Deemed too dark and disturbing for commercial radio, these two releases went nowhere and the band went their separate ways after two years of playing and recording. We have compiled the best tracks recorded in both Memphis and El Paso to put together what we feel is one of the finest Texas psych rock LPs ever released."

Artist: BRUSH
Title: Brush!?
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 047CD
This is Masayoshi Takanaka's (pre-Flied Egg) first-ever recording, originally released in 1971 as a tiny private pressing in Japan, also one of the great collector's unsolved mysteries, appearing in Hans Pokora's book, 3001 Record Collector Dreams. It's so rare that it took nearly two years to locate the material. The music is West Coast-oriented hard psych with a progressive touch -- all original material and really well-produced. This is a concept album like Spooky Tooth/Pierre Henry's Ceremony, and a true hippie undertaking by Takanaka, Hitoki Goto, Michio Ara, Tushio Tsukagishi, Toru Hatano and Takefumi Yoshida -- an album where many musicians of the Japanese underground scene were involved. In Japan this album is also known as Escape. First-ever CD jewel case edition with 20-page booklet.

Artist: FLOW, THE
Title: The Flow's Greatest Hits
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 050CD
"Very rare album by The Flow with Pete Fine on guitars/vocals, Monte Farber on bass/vocals, Steve Starer on drums, compositions by Pete Fine and Monte Farber. This is a guitar burner total. If you´re into Blue Cheer and extra heavy Fuzz guitar is your thing, you´ll love this album. Great songs, a mindblower. Finally it came out on CD with 3 bonus tracks and poster-booklet. 'In those rebellious and psychedelic times we barely earned enough to pay for food at times, while developing our musical horizons. I am amazed we survived those days. Eventually, we became a 3 piece band - The Flow. We rented a room in NYC -- also renting a room was Wicked Lester, a band later to be known as KISS. We used the space for our own explorations. With our limited funds, we could only complete half of the project so we released the record with one blank side and later on, added more material.'" --Pete Fine

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP

Mexico 1971. 350 numbered, heavy vinyl, heavy cover. "Here is one the the best and longest album we ever did. Side A has 8 tracks studio (25 minutes) and side B 7 tracks live (28 minutes). This band from Guadalajara, Mexico never did a complete album (only 7 inches and an Comp. on Orfeon). La Fachada de Piedra (The Stone Facade) is a 6 piece band with 2 guitarists. The Cream influenced bluesy Underground blows you away. All English vocals, original songs, effects, screaming guitars (like Eric Clapton & Peter Green in best action) with Hendrix style drug-out psychedelic."

Title: Wailing Wall
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 053CD
Reissue of this psychedelic rock band from El Paso, TX, originally issued in 1970; previously reissued on the collectable Rockadelic label. Noted for its "real American Indian/Desert vibe", this was the band's only release. "This latest Rockadelic release out as Shadoks CD now came also from the the vaults of El Paso's Suemi label (like Iota) and has been turning some heads. Very unusual sounds spearheaded by brothers Darrell and Doug Adams who later moved to the West Coast and released LP's with the middle eastern influenced band Light Rain. The album has a spooky, late night vibe and the lyrics that reveal new meanings upon every listen. Great guitar work by Mike Cancelarre and twisted vocals by drummer/songwriter David Rutledge. Visions of late night desert peyote hallucinations on songs like 'Scissor-Tailed Swallow' and 'Country Of The Goose' compliment a hard rock, Captain Beefhart vibe on 'Mad Rapper'. Unusual timing and phrasing makes this journey into the twisted back roads of El Paso's great rock & roll heritage."

Artist: FINGLETOAD, STRANGE & SIHO
Title: Mazzola
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 055CD
This is the first and second album by young bohemian Americans Fingletoad, Strange & Siho. Their self-titled first album was recorded in 1969 in Chicago as Fingletoad & Strange, and very few acetates were pressed. The follow-up Mazzola was recorded in 1970, and perhaps less than 100 records were pressed. This double CD includes all original songs from both albums, taking the listener on a psychedelic trip merging imaginary landscapes and dreamy folk with teenage angst. Clearly influenced by the top musicians of the time, The Beatles, Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix, they undoubtedly manage to create a sound all their own ranging from beautiful lyrical ballads with harmony vocals to over-the-top fuzz and feedback frenzy. All professionally executed while still retaining a garage atmosphere and production, creating the perfect mix.

Artist: HEADSTONE CIRCUS
Title: Headstone Circus
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 061CD
Headstone Circus was formed in 1966 by Glenn Faria (who also released some solo music on World In Sound). This beautiful album was recorded between 1968-1970, and on the first spin it is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young -- four-way street electric sides. Well-composed, well-performed, and in line with some of the better Neil Young albums, with an extra weird touch. "Around 1966, Nick Bonis, Mike Johnstone, Randy Pope, and I formed a psychedelic band. On Halloween night we went to an old cemetery, dropped acid, and spent a very strange night among the tombstones. The tombstones appeared to be melting and taking on animal shapes. Some of us saw spirits, and I'm not sure what I saw, but it was disturbing. Afterwards, we referred to that night as the 'Headstone Circus.' It seemed appropriate to call ourselves Headstone Circus as a band so we did." Enjoy this amazing West Coast album which was recorded in Washington D.C.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 063CD
This is the second album after the band Time released their record ...Before There Was, and changed their name to Think Dog!. Dog Days was recorded in 1969/1970 in New York City and members Lynn David Newton, Tom McFaul, Richard Stanley, Bob Stuhler (the drummer of Hot Tuna) and David Rosenboom (on one track), recorded 60 minutes of creative music which was never released before. Again, this is a musical masterpiece of well-composed and well-crafted touching and twisted songs highly influenced by the British Underground, by a band that left everything else behind and should have made it, but didn't. On some tracks, the vocals sound like Robert Wyatt in the early '70s. If you like the Canterbury sound and art rock with Underground roots, you will love this one. The photos for the album cover were shot by the famous U.S. photographer I.C. Rapoport, who worked for Paris-Match, Saturday Evening Post, Life, Time, Newsweek, National Geographic, etc. Now reissued with six bonus tracks.

Artist: VICTORIA
Title: Victoria
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 065CD
Local New Jersey demo-release (200 made in 1971) from Victoria, a band and album beyond rare, fantastic, conceptual psych-beauty. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes totally wild underground-psych, this release features female vocals, titanic horns and distorted guitars. Sweet tunes turn into dark psych-power. Totally stoned. This amazing album was first released on the Seven Little Indians label (before it became Shadoks Music) eight or nine years ago as a limited-edition with a red velvet cover and golden engraved artwork. A 500-copy limited-edition CD, also in red velvet, was sold out in a few months. Besides Jungle, this album is a famous Little Indian release. If you like Moby Grape you should check this one out. The album has remained unreleased until a few years ago.

Artist: MOURNING PHASE
Title: Mourning Phase
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $40.00
Catalog #: SHAD 066LP
"This demo-LP was discovered in 1992 and later sold for a 4-figure sum to a 'collector'. It appeared to be a test pressing, dated 1971. Lyrically interesting, the densely layered acoustic/electric music seems merely to serve as a vehicle for the love/hate relationship of, speculatively, the male and female vocalists. Cynical, misanthropic, (with and occasional cello). It rates highly and rightly so, because the songs are well-written, well-performed, and goes from somewhat dreamy through to aggressive. Recorded at Eden studios. You can compare the music very close to Mellow Candle, one of the best underground folk albums there is, and this is as good."

Artist: AKBAYRAM, EDIP
Title: Edip Akbayram
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 067CD
First readily available reissue/compilation of material by this famous Turkish psych musician from the early '70s. Edip Akbayram is the top of the BIG three of Turkish delights (Erkin Koray, Baris Mancho & Edip). This release includes the best psych tracks from his first two albums and many singles -- 22 tracks, 90 minutes of music. His band Dostlar formed the songs into something which takes you on an Eastern trip, full of fuzz guitar, electric sax and great percussions. Edip's dark voice makes you shiver and you feel like dancing right away. This is as good as Erkin Koray -- deeply spiritual and charged with politically powerful lyrics. This release stands as one of the Shadoks reissue classics.

Artist: BEAUREGARD AJAX
Title: Deaf Priscilla
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 068CD
Perhaps one of the best American psych gems Shadoks ever laid their hands on. The album was recorded in April 1968 at Western Sound Recorders L.A. for a famous surf label, but was never released. Perhaps better than Public Nuisance and as good as Brain Police from Rockadelic, this album is a milestone such as Cold Sun's Dark Shadow. There isn't one track that is lacking energy (and there are 14 great ones, plus 4 bonus tracks never issued before) -- songs such as "Loneliness Is A Sometime Thing," "Dead Woman Blues" and "Deaf Priscilla" are outstanding highlights. Perfect vocals, tons of fuzz guitar and tough lyrics. We will love this album forever.

Artist: KAMIJO
Title: Martha
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 069CD
Since this elusive 1971 record appeared in Hans Pokora's 3001 Record Collector Dreams book, most collectors (including those in Japan) were searching for this album with no luck. So now it's time to solve another mystery: beside the other unknown albums shown in the same book, 3/3 and Olive, Martha is the one everybody was talking about the most. What is it? Has anybody seen it? It's so rare, but is it any good? Martha is the first of three albums composed by the Japanese artist, Kamijo. The other two are Tomo (also very rare) and Tomoaki Kamijo KK Band's Dear My Friend (Pretty Are Too), but Martha is the best of them all. All English vocals, lots of fuzz guitar, percussion, piano and great vocals. An underground-rock album with folky elements and a West Coast touch. Kamijo is the Mick Stevens of Japan. Five musicians, ten great songs.

Artist: STEVENS, MICK
Title: The River/The Englishman
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $18.00
Catalog #: SHAD 072CD
These are the last recordings of Mick Stevens, originally released in 1977 (The River) and 1979 (The Englishman), respectively. Mick Stevens arrived on the music scene and then disappeared, seemingly without anybody noticing. Two sublime, inventive, and beautifully-crafted homemade albums in the early 1970s -- See The Morning and No Savage Word -- (previously reissued by Shadoks, SHAD 038CD) were evidence of the superior songwriting and arranging skills that he possessed. Though highly personalized, the performances, the songs, the musicianship, and the painstaking (low-budget and homespun) production of these first two records gave them a sound and a feel that suggested that here was a real talent on the launch-pad of a musical career of some substance. By 1977, and with no record contract in sight, Mick took a group of musician friends into Spaceward Studios in Cambridge (England) and recorded the tracks for The River, the first CD in this 2CD collection. The dreamy vocal layers so prevalent in the earlier albums are subservient to a much harder and "rockier" sound, while Stevens' electric guitar-playing is of the highest order. Since the '70s were a time of much creativity and wholly new approaches to sound, a number of musical influences can be heard in Stevens' music on this particular album. The opening to the lengthy "Suite (To A Seagull)" has overtones of King Crimson or Gentle Giant, developing into a Yes-like section and a middle-eight reminiscent of early Steely Dan. The album The Englishman is self-assured, confidently and beautifully played by a bunch of first-rate musicians including Ric Sanders of Soft Machine, the Albion Band and Fairport Convention, and Michael Gregory -- whose crisp drumming patterns are a real highlight. The track "The Englishman" is the clear apex of the album, with Stevens' voice and solo acoustic guitar completely filling the audio waves in a song about an Englishman overseas. The original vinyl pressings of all Mick Stevens' albums are now collector's items, all exorbitantly expensive. These songs have never sounded as good as they do on these CDs due to the care and attention of the transfer process in removing all the surface noise to be found on the original vinyl and tapes.

Artist: BORN AGAIN
Title: Pagan
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 073CD
Sweet, original garage/psych originating from Marin County. A Red Mountain offshoot, Born Again stumbled their way to L.A. in late 1969/early 1970, shepherded by producer Roger Dollarhide at Sun West Studios in Hollywood to mixed success. With a raw style in the vein of the Faces and the more trippy facet of The Rolling Stones, the band was led by the tuneful grooves of guitar player Larry Otis and the liquored, languorous voice of Bryce Sullivan. From piano ballads to horror-tinged instrumentals ("Laurie Waltzing" from the 1970s film The Velvet Vampire) to a ripping backwards sound collage, Born Again were early southern rock at its best. Contracted to Pat Boone Productions, the band saw members reappear and disappear for opportunities elsewhere. Including seven bonus tracks, this record has long been hard-to-find and has solidly stood the test of time.

Artist: ADOLPHUS, PAUL
Title: The Dawn Wind
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 076CD
First CD reissue of a very obscure Japanese private press folk album from 1973. Australian artist Paul Adolphus recorded the album in Kyoto/Japan, playing guitar, vocals, flutes, shakuhachi. Totally vibed-out "personal" folk-psych. "My first visit to Japan was in 1968 after living in India and Sri Lanka. My wife at the time arrived in Kyoto, and had our first child there. We really loved it. We returned to Sweden then went back to Kyoto and had our second child there. We lived in a 200 year old farm house in a village outside Kyoto. It was a great scene at the time. Japanese artists, bohemians, and visiting foreigners making art, music, poetry, etc. I was playing music with different people, then developed a musical relationship with Mitsu Harada. We did concerts and toured to other cities in Japan together. Before leaving Japan, Mitsu organized to record the album together. Mitsu's father was the grand master of a calligraphy school. In a large room in the school, Mitsu set up mics and a big stereo recorder consul. Most of the playing was by Mitsu and myself, an American friend played a little guitar and percussion to fill some holes. A group of friends sat around, so it was a bit of a living room concert feel. It was my material, Mitsu engineered as well as playing. I think there were 200 copies pressed, the covers were hand made, so it was released into the small arts community of Kyoto and Tokyo. Not long after the recording, I travelled with the family to Australia, I had been away from here for a decade. I worked on a lot of projects here, composing for theatre and dance. I had a group called Living Music -- an African drummer, Indian tabla, didgeridoo, winds, etc. It was early days, not too many people were ready for world music." Incredibly rare and sought-after mellow folk album with beautiful songs and harmonies, like a Japanese version of Extradition.

Title: The Final Solution
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $40.00
Catalog #: SHAD 077LP
First reissue of this 1967 garage rock album, recorded in Puerto Rico. Edition of 400. "Here is finally the album many garages were waiting for. This album is on almost all want-lists we have seen but never showed up. A mystery until now, very much like Mystery Meat years ago. Five guys and a girl recorded this album in 1967 in Puerto Rico. The album was pressed in USA on a private label. The musicians were fellow students at the university of Puerto Rico studying Architecture. Alexy Rodriguez, who was a musician of The Challengers and who designed the cover for Final Solution could not locate an original album to master from. Many years later a well-known collector had the luck of finding a near mint original copy which was the basis of this reissue. Really strong guitar and organ based garage sound, rough and beautiful at the same time. Mostly male vocals, all original 12 songs, English lyrics. Just great and so good we can solve another mystery."

Artist: BUNALIM
Title: Bunalim
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 078CD
First-ever CD reissue of some of the most amazing Turkish music ever recorded: wild, raw and with fuzz guitar all over. Bunalim (which means "depression" or "frustration" in Turkish), founded in 1969, was one of the most well-known underground groups on the Turkish music scene of the early '70s. Although their discography is limited to only a few singles, Bunalim is regarded as a seminal band in Turkish music history, who paved the way for its members to find fame later on in their careers (playing with Erkin Koray, Mogollar, Ter, Edip Akbayram). Bunalim released 6 singles which are incredibly rare, and never completed a whole album. They were produced and managed by legendary Turkish rock musician and instigator of the Anatolian rock movement Cem Karaca, one of the most important rock singers in Turkey during the 1970s. This release is a blend of their work from 1970-1972, and features everything from American-influenced garage to early punk experiments to fuzzed-out psychedelic heavy Eastern drone, including a cover of Iron Butterfly's "Get Out Of My Life, Woman" ("Yeter Artık Kadın") sung in Turkish. They say about the band: "God, they were crazy! Running all nude down the Istiklal Street, psychedelic light shows, crazy paintings all over the stage wall and screaming of LSD! LSD! in their live shows." As good as the best recordings from Erkin Koray, Bunalim are, even for most Turkish collectors, a well-kept secret. The LP version reissued by Shadoks sold out within a blink of the eye.

Artist: BLOPS
Title: Blops
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 3CD BOX
Price: $48.00
Catalog #: SHAD 080CD
This is a 3CD compilation of the rare and beautiful complete works of Chile-based Blops. If you think you like El Congreso, if you love Kissing Spell and Embrujo, you will adore the music of Blops. The first album from 1970 is pure underground folk with some electric moments, the second from 1971 becomes more electric with touching songs which make you shiver and the third album from 1973 is completely electric and psychedelic with a progressive touch. Los Blops formed in 1970 when Eduardo Gatti (vocals and guitars), Julio Villalobos (guitars), Pedro Greene (drums), Andres Orrego (keyboards) and Juan Pablo Orrego (bass) performed covers (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Cream, Kinks) in a local club in Isla Negra, with additional changes in the band with the addition of members Sergio Bezard (drums) and Juan Contreras (flute and keyboards). Their first LP was recorded in 12 hours on a two-track machine and produced by DICAP (Discoteca Del Cantar Popular De Las Juventudes Comunistas), a label that was affiliated with Communist youth, whose tapes were later destroyed by the military. Their first concert at the Marconi Theatre showcased their own material and was recorded by a television crew. Their first LP includes a song that became a hymn that generations would continue to sing, "Los Momentos." Gatti and Orrego later reformed Los Blops in 1978, recording a single: "Los Momentos"/ "La Francisca," but they split again in 1980. The LP version of this box sold out quickly, and here is the CD version of it in a beautifully laminated heavy book-box, with 3CDs in jewel cases containing two non-LP extra tracks, limited to 1000 copies.

Artist: 3/3
Title: 3/3
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $40.00
Catalog #: SHAD 082LP
2nd pressing, black vinyl. First reissue of this ultra-obscure pre-no-wave LP, originally released in Japan, 1975. "3/3 are Reck (guitar, vocals), Higo Hiroshi (bass) and Chiko Hige (drums). The name was inspired by a Japanese comic (4/4). In February 1975, 3/3 (Sanbun No San) released this album in a tiny pressing of 15 copies only to get a record deal. The cover was homemade and the recording sounds live but without audience. The music is ultra heavy guitar-dominated psychedelic rock like a mixture of Blue Cheer / Randy Holden/MC5 and early punk/new wave bands. The sound quality is mediocre but the music is a blaster. 3/3 has never released another recording. Both Reck and Hige then moved to New York where they stayed for over a year and played with James Chance & the Contortions, Lydia Lunch (Teenage Jesus & The Jerks) and others (No New York movement). They returned to Japan in 1978 to start a new group which became very famous: Friction. In 1979 Friction appeared on a compilation and in 1980 they recorded their first album. Friction released more than 10 albums in Japan. Friction has certainly had a heavy influence on the late 1970s Japanese punk and new wave scene. Reck is again active on the Tokyo scene and has teamed up with Haino Keiji and hardcore drummer Pill, with whom he performs under the name Head Rush. This album of 3/3 is the rarest underground album ever released in Japan." Number 43 in Japrocksampler's Top 50. Last copies...

Artist: SHARK MOVE
Title: Ghede Chokra's
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $14.50
Catalog #: SHAD 086CD
Indonesian rock pioneers Shark Move started playing in Bandung, Indonesia in 1970 and was founded by Benny Soebardja, who plays lead guitar and sings. The group combined rock music and English lyrics with traditional harmonies and progressive sounds. While other bands at that time were still playing sweetened pop music, this was really an experimental recording for the time and place it was made. Unfortunately, at the end of 1970, the keyboard player passed away, so Benny decided not to continue with his band and formed a new one named Giant Step (which might come out soon on Shadoks music). Ghede Chokra's is a very complex prog album which is as strong as many good UK albums of the same period, with that little something extra that makes this album unique and great.

Format: LP
Price: $40.00
Catalog #: SHAD 087LP
LP 450 numbered/heavy sleeve/180 gram pressing. "Located in St. Albans, 20 minutes away from London, Motiffe recorded this album in a home situation with no overdubs. A full blown progressive band with songs and techniques that reminds a lot of bands such as IF, Gracious and Gravy Train. Great keyboards, fuzz guitar which turns the music into something Mothers of Invention-like plus flute & sax, real complex songs and very little vocal. These guys can play for sure and they are instrumentalists. Originally released in 1972 on the famous Deroy label. Supposedly only two known copies of this baby exist."

Title: Lady Sunrise
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $40.00
Catalog #: SHAD 088LP
LP 450 numbered/heavy sleeve/180 gram pressing/insert. "Shortly after Mick's first album See The Morning, while waiting for the Deroy pressings, he started working on Lady Sunrise. The songs on this concept album were created during a particularly turbulent emotional period. We think most of these songs are some of his best, and as usual, the lyrics were written with his own blood -- both metaphorically and in reality. Mick composed all songs and played all instruments, so this album was recorded sound on sound. Twelve great songs, bittersweet and very touching. Just perfect, as we would expect from Mick Stevens' music."

Frank Saucier and his three brothers formed Rayne in 1977, located in a New Orleans suburb. They recorded the album with good home equipment with no overdubs. The original album ("the black album," as they called it), released in 1979, was only pressed 300 times and during a moment of frustration, they took a box of the album and shot it with a shotgun, making this a hard collector-find, in the truest sense. The music is first class psych rock -- strong compositions with great guitars and vocals -- everything just right and something you would expect from bayou tough-guys -- pure Southern spirit.

Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 090CD
The Contents Are: Dave Neumann (guitar, vocals); Paul Staack (drums, vocals); Larry Smith (bass, vocals); and Craig Hute (lead guitar, vocals) from Iowa. The Contents Are were one of many '60s bands from the Quad City's fertile garage music scene. With labels/studios like Fredlo and IGL, it was a very healthy regional area for bands with an unusually high per capita for record releases. Up until the recent discovery of an original copy a couple years ago, it was only rumored to exist and remained an enigma with hardcore record collectors. In most cases, The Contents Are were only known by astute collectors for their two excellent 45 releases (non-LP). Well the mystery is over, and here's your chance to hear one of the most rare and greatest garage records ever recorded. Here's the story about the record: four high school seniors from Iowa decide to release an album of all original tunes, exclusively sold at their live shows. Originally released on the Rok label (a subsidiary of the already obscure Fredlo label) in 1967 with only 100 copies pressed. These guys were not your typical garage band -- talented players, professional grade vocalists and no cover songs! Their music is a nice blend of garage rock with hints of hipster folk and early psychedelic influences. As good if not better as other similar top-shelf rarities like Mystery Meat and the Bachs, but without a major quantity release, making original copies of their recordings ten times rarer. Get it or miss it! CD jewel case with 8-page booklet, plus 4 bonus non-LP tracks from singles.

Artist: INSTANT ORANGE
Title: Instant Orange
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 091CD
Besides home to the Hell's Angels, farmers and citrus grooves, San Bernardino, California was also where Instant Orange lived and released their first single in 1968. Terry Walters, Randy Lanier and Lynn McCurdy are Instant Orange with the help of Joe Bianchi and Bob Lautz. The band forged ahead and released another single (1973), album (1973) and two 10" EPs (1974 and 1975). All of their releases were small pressings of 100 copies and to this day, Instant Orange remains virtually unknown. Their homemade sound is a refreshing reflection of the West Coast folk-rock influences that were so prevalent during the '60s and early '70s. All original tracks with inspiration from bands like The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Love, Sandy Bull and others. Songs full of electric and acoustic guitars with nice doses of McGuinnesque 12-string riffing as well as many unexpected surprises (antiquated electronic effects, rambling rural explorations, long jams, experimental moves, stoner banter and other weirdness between songs, caveman fuzz, etc.). A solid listen with enough original imagination to keep it interesting without the band creating an identity crisis by trying too hard to be something other than themselves. Grab this before it becomes elusive like some of San Bernardino's motorcycle riding inhabitants.

There were only four good and rare albums on the Danish Spectator label: Terje, Jesper & Joachim, Moses, Days and the rarest of them all, Danish psych-rockers, Blues Addicts. Ivan Horn really kicks ass with his extra heavy guitar. As good as the heavy Cream songs, in parts as creative as Jimi Hendrix. Originally released in 1970, this record contains all original compositions, long tracks, loaded guitars, English vocals and heavy drum sounds. If Spectator would have kept rock music as their musical genre instead of switching to jazz, Blues Addicts would have been successful within the international rock circus. Ivan Horn (guitars, vocals & kazzo), Mich Brink (bass), Gibber Thomsen (vocals & congas), Henning Aasbjerg (drums).

Acid folk with poetry lyrics, loner vibes, psychedelic guitars, well-crafted songs, six of them in English, two in French. Four guys hanging out night after night to create their first album in a basement studio following their one and only ambition. This album is very special and became instantly one of the real musical surprises for us. It beats most UK albums of the same style. Catalog #: SHAD 096CD
The Danish group Days was formed in Copenhagen in the winter of 1967/1968 by Peter Lindhe (drums), John Kjaergaard (vocals/rhythm guitar), Ole Fester (vocals/bass) and Lars Reinau (vocals/lead guitar). The band's repertoire was mainly rock and blues-oriented with cover versions of songs from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. Lindhe and Reinau started writing original material for the band and the repertoire started changing from rock/blues cover versions to self-composed, more lyrical songs with elements of The Beatles, Procol Harum and (early) Deep Purple. In 1969, Jørn Anker (Hammond organ) joined the band and he, too, started contributing new original songs. The Days LP was recorded in the early summer of 1970 and in 1971, the band split up. Days came out on the Spectator label, and is one of the rarest albums from Denmark. It is full of amazing prog tunes with great organ elements and strong fuzz guitar. A killer album from beginning to end.

"From Denmark 1970; LP in edition of 450 numbered copies, glossy heavy sleeve, 180 gram pressing, insert. The Danish group Days was formed in Copenhagen in the winter 1967/1968 by Peter Lindhe (drums), John Kjaergaard (vocals/rhythm guitar), Ole Fester (vocals/bass) and Lars Reinau (vocals/lead guitar). The band's repertoire was mainly rock and blues oriented with cover versions of songs from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. During 1968/1969, Peter Lindhe and Lars Reinau started writing original material to the band and the repertoire started changing from rock/blues cover versions to self-composed, more lyrical songs with elements of The Beatles, Procol Harum and (early) Deep Purple. In 1969, Jørn Anker (Hammond organ) joined the band and he, too started contributing new original songs to the band. The Days LP was recorded in the early summer of 1970 and in 1971 the band split up. Days is one the the rarest albums from Denmark which also came out on Spectator (Blues Addicts, Terje Jesper & Joachim, Moses). It is full of amazing prog tunes with great organ elements and strong fuzz guitar. A killer album from beginning to end."

Title: Sacros
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 098CD
Sacros ("The Sacred") was a Chilean rock band inspired by the spiritual passion and veneration for the great gods of South America, such as Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent, god of the ancient Mayas and Viracocha, Lord of Tiahuanaku in the Andes mountains. Sacros identified with these gods from around the planet, with the energy of love and devotion for creativity. Sacros recorded this 1973 debut (their only record) on the state label IRT, and the production was destroyed by the military. Only a very few copies survived the destruction. The music goes in the same direction as Los Jaivas, Los Blops and El Congreso (all from Chile) and Lula Cortez from Brazil. It has great 12-string Rickenbacker sounds, effects, compelling vocals and rhythms with an experimental touch. You could easily call this one of the rarest albums from Latin America, since only a handful of copies survived. Sacros were a strange musical combination of country-rock mixed with Latin American flavor. They were loved by many. May the gods bless you all. Musicians: Hernan Valdovinos (bass and vocals); Patricio Panussis (guitar & vocals); Tomas R. Herrera (percussion).

Artist: FARQUHAR, JW
Title: The Formal Female
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 099CD
All tracks on The Formal Female were recorded by JW Farquhar in 1972. At the time of this recording, JW had recently extricated himself from a ten-year marriage, and the lyrics definitely fit the embittered tone. During that time, he lived by himself in a third floor apartment in Philadelphia. It was a street with a lot of traffic. Car horns, busses, police sirens, fire engines, screams, and sometimes even gunshots filled the air. For this reason, he sealed up the windows and any other openings with sound proofing foam, and it was there the album was recorded. JW was the instrumentalist; rhythm guitar, lead guitar, drums, vocals, and bass. However, he could not play them all at once, so he purchased a four-track simulsync Teac recorder, professional version. This allowed him to record on one track and then play it back and separately record on a second, third, and fourth track. The original tracks were recorded at 15 IPS. A final mix was then made in stereo with yet a fifth overdub, when needed. At that time, other effects were limited. It is an amazing electric fuzz album full of effects and it's a masterpiece in the same realm of loner-weirdness as Dr. Hooker: extra-heavy psychedelic.

During that time he lived by himself in a 3rd floor apartment in Philadelphia. It was a street with a lot of traffic. Title: Astra
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 100CD
South African acid-rock legends Freedom's Children recorded their second album in 1970 in South Africa for EMI. Formed at the height of the hated Apartheid era, Freedom's Children swiftly became South Africa's most innovative sons, incomparable to anyone both musically and politically during those turbulent years. Their explorative, sonic excursions pushed the musical envelope and broke down barriers, culminating in the groundbreaking Astra album, arguably one of the era's most overlooked recordings. The problem was, no one was listening beyond South Africa. Astra is their most well-known album among collectors. You can easily compare it to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother. Musically, it follows the same rules, but with a heavier guitar sound -- a real complex, progressive underground album.

Catalog #: SHAD 101CD
This is Freedom's Children's first album, recorded in 1968 in South Africa for EMI. This album has all the wonderful excesses of early progressive rock; the deep meaningful poetry, spoken words, majestic organ-playing, sound effects, choirs, long guitar solos, etc. Ramsay MacKay's unusual Scottish/South African accent guides us through this album of contrasts. From the country sounds of "Country Boy" to the Traffic-style rock of "Judas Queen," this album does not let up for a moment. It rocks, it soothes, it challenges, it even refreshes (thanks to the inclusion of an old Pepsi advertisement). A great album and a mind-blowing debut.

Title: Galactic Vibes
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 102CD
This is the third album by South Africa's Freedom's Children, originally released on the Parlophone label. The year is 1971, but the song is "1999." The group is Freedom's and the vibes are galactic. And now just over 30 years later, we can look back at "1999." This is a many-layered album, almost to the point of being cluttered, but this is what makes it interesting. Each time you listen you can hear something new, be it a tone in Brian Davidson's wailing vocals, a riff from Julian Laxton's screaming guitar, a sequence of notes from Barry Irwin's booming bass, the change from sticks to hands on Colin Pratley's awesome drumming, or merely putting your ear right up against the speaker to feel the presence of Ramsay MacKay on the live version of "The Homecoming." The centerpiece of Galactic Vibes is "The Homecoming," which appeared in a shorter version on Astra, but this live version has to be one of South Africa's epic tracks. Recorded live at the Out of Town Club (which, according to a copy of their flyer in the sleeve notes, advertised as a "steak parlor"), the track features a quite stunning and by all accounts legendary drum solo that lasts for the best part of 8 minutes before those dramatic guitar chords. Aside from this monstrous drumfest, the album features some blistering, fuzz-edged guitars on the thundering "That Did It" as well as the quieter and beautiful "Fields And Me." There is also the experimental keyboard piece, "The Crazy World Of Pod: Electronic Concerto," which is just short enough not to become irritating. The orchestration on "About The Dove And His King" adds a beauty and quality sheen to what is quite a rough rock sound, which is due mainly to the inventive recording methods used. With layers of overdubs and no noise reduction, this method created what the sleeve notes describe as a "musical mystical mist of sound." This is a wonderful way to describe the slightly distorted guitars and vague hissing sounds. These guys were breaking barriers not only in South Africa's rather narrow 1970s rock world, but would have broken through numerous perceived limitations on the world stage, had the world bothered to listen. Galactic Vibes is an album that South Africans can be proud of, even 30 years later. It is a great musical achievement that can be hauled out again and again and simply marvelled at.

Title: Blue Blood
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $44.00
Catalog #: SHAD 103LP
From the UK, 1971. LP in an edition of 450 numbered copies, with glossy heavy & embossed sleeve, 180 gram pressing. "Here we have a completely unknown album from England from 1971. Morning After recorded this LP as a demo only to acquire a record deal (as so many bands did in the late '60s early '70s). So the album was pressed only in tiny amounts. The recording was with home studio equipment. Some of the tracks on the album sound like blues rock from the late Fleetwood Mac and some have a more progressive touch such as Shuttah. Great & heavy guitar work, fuzz and wah-wah all over the album, snotty vocals, all own great compositions. The album title Blue Blood assumed a noble wealthy family and a member of the establishment, but the music and lyrics are just the opposite. The music on this album is pure British Underground, electrifying, pure and raw, no Sgt. Pepper sing along tunes. Just superb!"

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: 3CD BOX
Price: $56.00
Catalog #: SHAD 104BOX
Deluxe 3CD box set edition of these albums, previously issued on vinyl by Shadoks. These 3 CDs will also be available separately, but this version puts these together in a heavy cardboard box, like the Blops CD on Shadoks. This box set edition is limited to 300 copies. Shadoks Music presents all three records by Freedom's Children, now collected together, after two years of struggle and hard work with tons of help from collectors in South Africa, England, Austria and the U.S.A. Since all mastertapes were lost in a big fire, they had to be mastered from the original vinyl, using two or three mint copies of each album to make the best possible sounding product. All three albums are the most wanted albums ever from South Africa. Some call them "The Pink Floyd of South Africa," and if the political situation in S.A. at that time would have been easier, they would have had the same status in the international music market as Pink Floyd. Beautifully composed songs, amazing instrumentation, well-crafted guitar work and great singers. The extra-heavy prog sound beats most albums in the same direction coming from the UK or U.S.A. Three absolute masterpieces.

This heavy garage band with great musical potential, is as good as the best tracks from the well-known albums of the Simla Beat compilations. Heavy fuzz-guitar, organ, tough vocals, driving beats, wailing guitars -- Doorsy feeling all over. Some original songs and lots of good cover versions in India style underground. The original album came out with a die-cut gimmick sleeve, so this reissue has the same gimmick sleeve."

Artist: LIVERPOOL
Title: Por Favor, Sucesso
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 107CD
Previously reissued on LP + 7" version, now available on CD. Liverpool is one of Shadoks' favorite bands from Brazil, and their 1969 LP, Por Favor, Sucesso (Please Success) is a flower-power art-rock album that stands out next to other Brazilian psych/Tropicália albums of the era. Shadoks reissues their sole album, including 6 tracks from their ultra-rare 7" EP Marcelo Zona Sul, the soundtrack to a Brazilian movie from 1970. Liverpool were as good as Módulo 1000, with perhaps even better-composed songs influenced by the British Underground, with Hammond, effects, complex compositions, uplifting, soulful vocals, Allman Brothers-style wailing guitars, wah-wah -- sometimes sweet and mellow, sometimes extra-heavy psychedelic -- all with that unmistakable Brazilian touch. Perhaps one of the best albums from South America. All original tracks, 19 in total (including the 6 EP tracks).

Title: Ten Light Claps And A Scream
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 108CD
Originally released in 1971 on EMI Parlophone, this is South Africa's once-famous Otis Waygood and their third record, Ten Light Claps And A Scream. Emerging during the height of political and social tension in the white suburbs of Johannesburg, Otis Waygood came from the north in the summer of '69, armed with long hair and scarabs, to slay the youth of the nation with an arsenal of murderous rock tunes. They became pretty much the hugest band South Africa had ever seen, and after two albums released on EMI S.A., this record was to blow them completely out of the water, becoming the best they'd ever produced and the most sought-after by collectors. The music is influenced by the British underground (Bloodwin Pig, Steamhammer, etc.) with great guitars and gruff vocals, blues-influenced, spacey underground rock, sax, organs and well-crafted compositions and arrangements, making this album a unique, proggy masterpiece. Produced by Julian Laxton of Freedom's Children under the direction of Clive Calder.

Haircut regulations were merciless. Life was an unutterable hell of boredom and conformity, but lo: salvation awaited. They came from the north in the summer of '69, armed with axes and scarabs, long hair streaming behind them, and proceeded to slay the youth of the nation with an arsenal of murderous rock tunes. They were the biggest thing our small world had ever seen, our Led Zeppelin, our Black Sabbath, maybe even our Rolling Stones. They were Otis Waygood. After two albums released on EMI S.A. the album Ten Light Claps And A Scream was simply the best Otis Waygood record and among collectors the most sought after. The music is influenced by the British underground for sure. Bloodwin Pig, Steamhammer, IF are working in the same field. Great guitars and vocals, blues-influenced underground rock, sax, organs and well-crafted composition and arrangements making this album a unique masterpiece. Julian Laxton of Freedoms Children was the producer. Artist: SUCK
Title: Time To Suck
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 109CD
In their short history, (only 8 months) Johannesburg, South Africa's Suck released one album in 1971 and created more mayhem than most bands do over a 10-year career. Suck were Louis "Moose" Forer on bass, Steve "Gil" Gilroy on guitar (who worked in the UK with Mick Abrahams from Jethro Tull), Saverio Grande on drums and Andrew Ionnides on vocals. Time To Suck is a hard, psychedelic, highly-charged package of manic drumming, scorching guitars and sublime, wailing vocals. Renowned for their destructive, somewhat scary on-stage antics using weaponry and their anti-war political rants, they managed to become the most controversial band in South Africa. Full of covers from artists of the day including Grand Funk Railroad's "Aimless Lady," and "Sin's A Good Man's Brother," King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man," Donovan's "Season Of The Witch," Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," and one truly howling, bonkers original, this one is not for moonshine mellow candle folk fans -- this one is a real adrenaline pusher. True South African heaviness that could have gotten even heavier with some more original material if they hadn't immediately disbanded. Produced by Julian Laxton from Freedom's Children.

Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 110CD
Originally released in 1978, this is one of Brazil's most rare psych records, ever, with only 500 copies pressed and given to friends or sold in shops -- the country's first private pressing. This record began as an audio accompaniment to the poetry of Antônio de Pádua Carvalho, when Hugo Filho was the lead guitarist of the garage band The Gentlemen, which included Zé Ramalho, known for his collaboration with Lula Côrtes. For this unique project, Filho invited Ramalho, the musician and composer Elísio Alexandrino (Golinha) to control the 4-channel tape recorders, musician Enilton Araújo, 12-stringed viola player Irapuan (Pupu), drummer Edmilson (Crauna), and percussionist Zé Crisólogo, with Filho (Hugo Leão) on nylon guitar, bass, keyboards, etc. If you're into Sacros, Lula Côrtes, Mutantes and El Congreso, you'll be WAY into this. Totally mellow countrified folk-psych/Brazilian pop with elements of fuzz and other unexpected, twisted endings. Something you'll want to play for your new girl on a crazy summer night.

Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 111CD
This is the debut release by South African prog/jazz/folk/psych band, Abstract Truth. The band existed only for a very short time, but it was a time of super-creativity. They exploded onto the Durban music scene early in 1969, released two studio albums during 1970 on EMI, of which this is the first. Comprised mostly of reworkings of songs by Donovan, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, etc., plus one original song, this is excellent early '70s melodic, wistful freak-rock blended with African rhythms in an assorted panoply of instruments: keyboards, flutes, electric guitars, saxophone, percussion, etc. A refreshing approach with an eastern touch. If you like UK bands such as Quintessence, If and Bloodwyn Pig, this album goes in the same direction. It is more trippy/stoned and acoustic than their follow-up from the same year, Silver Trees. Ken E. Henson on guitar, vocals and sitar; Robbie Pavid on percussion; Brian Gibson on bass & vocals; Sean Bergin on sax & flute.

Catalog #: SHAD 113CD
This is the first album by the Turkish band Hardal ("Mustard") which was recorded in Turkey in 1979 by Sukru Yuksel (guitar), Aydin Sencan (bass), Cahit Kukul (guitar) and Sedat Avdikoglou (drums). The band was only known by a very small insider-group, but those fans just adored Hardal. The secret of Hardal's small popularity is that in 1979, the Turkish rock scene was comatose. Cem Karaca left for Germany, Erkin Koray moved to Canada, and Edip Akbayram got stuck because of his political ambitions. Only Baris Manco was still on the road. To start a new band was tough to do in Turkey. Hardal also recorded two later albums. The music is the best Turkish progressive underground you can think of, filled with guitars, synth sounds, great Eastern-vibe vocals and harmonies, and pumping rhythms, as good as the best Koray tracks, for sure. This album was never reissued before, and Shadoks is proud to present it to most people for the first time.

Title: Captain Marryat
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 114CD
Captain Marryat were from Glasgow, Scotland and they recorded this demo album in 1974, released in a tiny pressing on the Thor label, hoping to get an EMI or Chrysalis deal, who both showed interest in the band at the time. They wanted to record only a single, but instead came up with a complete album of self-composed tracks. Since it was not that easy for a Scottish band to get attention down in London, this album was the only pressing ever done and was sold at band gigs only. Five musicians, great organ, vocals, extra heavy fuzz-guitar with drums and bass -- amazing underground songs, influenced by Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Beggars Opera -- a true lost classic. Dig on the truly tribal percussion, searing guitar leads and drugged-out keys on the fully-instrumental and galloping "Dance Of Thor." The band formed in the early '70s, around 1971 to 1975, generating quite a following while playing all around Scotland and the Borders at various venues including Burns Howff in Glasgow which was a very popular venue as other bands such as Alex Harvey Band, Nazareth and Beggars Opera also played there. Shadoks was lucky to find the band themselves to make a deal so this beauty can finally conquer the world of rock music. Many people watching eBay auctions were surprised to see this album selling for nearly 3,000 Euro each. Before that, this album was completely unknown. Members include: Jimmy Rorrison, Hugh Finnegan, Allan Bryce, Tommy Hendry, and Ian McEleny.

Title: Awakening...
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 115CD
Shadoks presents the first of three albums reissued on CD by heavy prog/psych South African band The Third Eye. The original pressing came out on Polydor in 1969, and thanks to the cooperation of band members Dawn Selby (Hammond organ) and her brother Ron Selby (guitar), this project came to life again. The Third Eye started playing in 1968, based in Durban -- a coastal city several hundred miles away from the recording and musical hub of Johannesburg. Awakening... came out in 1969 when Dawn Selby was only 14 years old. Just imagine her age when you listen to the blistering organ and piano tracks. Followed by two more albums Searching (1969) and Brother (1970), The Third Eye produced a veritable volcano of work in a short period of time, even challenging fellow peers Freedoms Children for the title of heaviest band in South Africa. Awakening... is the most complex of all three of their albums, with great brass arrangements, piano, Hammond organ, fuzz-guitar and soul-infused vocals. Musically headed in the direction of bands such as Electric Flag, The Flock's Dinosaur Swamps, Chicago, The Nice, and Al Cooper, this is pure electric underground of the best sort. Other members include: Maurice Saul (vocals, lead guitar), Robbie Pavid (drums), and Mike Sauer (six-string bass).

Numbered edition of 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl; glossy gatefold sleeve with insert. "With the help of many music friends and a lot of patience, we could finally arrange a deal to reissue the 3 albums by the South African band The Third Eye for the first time. The original pressing came out on Polydor. Perhaps Third Eye is the best band from S.A. with the most innovative and complex music. Most music lovers would vote Freedoms Children as the biggest influence in S.A,. rock, but Third Eye will share at least half of that cake. In cooperation with Dawn Selby (Hammond organ) and her brother Ron (guitar), this project came to life again. They where based in Durban, a coastal city several hundred miles away from the recording and musical hub of Johannesburg and started playing in 1968. The first album Awakening came out in 1969 when the female organ player Dawn Selby was only 14 years old. Just imagine her age when you listen to the amazing organ and piano tracks. Awakening was released in 1969 followed by 2 more albums Searching and Brother just one year later in 1970. What a musical output in such a short time. The band and composer must have sat on a volcano where they just waited to burst their music out onto the rock universe. Awakening is the most complex album of the three, with great brass arrangements, piano, Hammond organ, fuzz-guitar and vocals full of soul. Musically going in the direction of bands such as Electric Flag, The Flock's Dinosaur Swamps, Chicago, The Nice and Al Cooper. Pure electric underground of the best sort."

Catalog #: SHAD 116CD
Shadoks reissues the second album by South African heavy proggers The Third Eye. Searching shortly followed after their debut, originally released by Polydor in 1969. Today, originals of this album are rare as gold-dust and among 2 or 3 others, the most valuable collector's items from South Africa. Many collectors who have basically everything in their collection are missing this one. The music is heavier, the lyrics full of political statements, and it's more psychedelic and a bigger step down into the musical underground. The 14-minute track "Awakening" is really amazing with tons of great organ parts and extra heavy fuzz-guitar. Members include: Ron Selby (lead guitar), Maurice Saul (vocals, lead guitar), Dawn Selby (piano, Hammond organ), Robbie Pavid (drums), and Mike Sauer (six-string bass).

Catalog #: SHAD 117CD
Shadoks reissues on CD the third and final album by South African heavy-prog outfit The Third Eye, which was originally released in 1970 on Polydor. The music is closer to the album Awakening..., without the brass arrangements, and with more organ-based compositions with beautiful vocals and guitars. The amazing drumming and bass holds the tracks firmly together and drives them forward. Comparable to bands from the U.S. and UK underground such as Electric Flag, Chicago and Keef Hartley Band. If bands from South Africa hadn't been banned in Europe and USA at the time, albums by The Third Eye would have become as popular as the previously-mentioned bands from U.S. and UK. All three Third Eye recordings are killer albums and you should not miss any of them. Members include: Ron Selby (lead guitar), Maurice Saul (vocals, lead guitar), Dawn Selby (piano, Hammond organ), Robbie Parvid (drums), and Mike Sauer (six-string bass).

We must mention here the amazing drumming and bass which holds the complete tracks together and drives them forwards. As a musical comparison we would mention again the bands from the US and UK underground, such as Electric Flag, Chicago and Keef Hartley Band. But we must say, if bands from South Africa were not banned in Europe and the USA at the time the albums by The Third Eye came out, they would have become as popular and even more as the mentioned bands from USA and UK. All three albums are killer albums and we would not want to miss one of them."

Title: Finjarn & Jensen
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 119CD
Shadoks reissues this Norwegian heavy rock album from Finjarn & Jensen, originally released in 1970 only in Norway (on the Columbia imprint via EMI Norsk A/S). Guitarist, vocalist, composer and artist Svein Finjarn can be safely called a legend in American rock. He began playing guitar and acting before he was 10 years old, and in the fall of 1961, he became the first Norwegian to play in a rock band with a fender Stratocaster. In 1969 he helped put together super-heavy rock group Jumbo with Freddy Lindquist, Leif Jensen, and Tore Syvertsen. The group released two singles, but dissolved during the work on their first LP. Finjarn and Jensen made the album complete with Lindquist, Arild Krosby, Arne Kvikstad and Grete Christoffersen, with enthusiastic liner notes written by Yngvar Holm. Produced by Briton John Mills, this is one of the coolest albums ever made in Scandinavia, and could be placed side-by-side with any hard, progressive rock from abroad. The music follows a great underground concept and hits as strong as bands like Blossom Toes, July, or Open Mind -- a real British psychedelic flower-power album made in Norway.

Artist: MOSES
Title: Changes
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 120CD
Moses was formed in 1969 in Esbjerg, Denmark. The band played their own unique style of heavy and pungent progressive blues, which was best appreciated in a hall filled with the smell of "fun tobacco." Their album Changes from 1971 has long been coveted by record collectors around the world. Jørgen Villadsen and Søren Højbjerg played in the blues band Fresh Boiled in 1968. Henrik Laurvig, who played in different local bands, joined on drums and vocals shortly after the band had changed its name to Moses at the beginning of 1969. Moses was very much inspired by blues-oriented bands from that period such as Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, but played only their own compositions with lyrics by Henrik Laurvig. Moses toured non-stop throughout their whole career, and at the end of 1969, were in contact with the independent record company Spectator Records. In the summer of 1970, they recorded Changes in 2 days in the Spectator Record Studio in Ålborg, Denmark. By the time Moses split at the beginning of 1972, they had developed a more progressive rock sound, inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, etc. Guitar player Søren Højbjerg is still working as the director of his own Danish booking and concert organization, SHB AGENCY in Esbjerg, Denmark. Drummer Henrik Laurvig continued in different bands, the most famous of which was Mani, with whom he recorded the album Kontiki (Genlyd Records, 1985). Along with his musical career, he worked as sales manager with the record companies CBS Records Denmark and Warner Music Denmark. Bass player Jørgen Villadsen has lost contact with his old bandmates, so his current whereabouts are unknown. Guitar-centric stompers with a significant amount of blues swagger and fuzz.

Title: Ódmenn
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 121CD
This self-titled album was the only one that Icelandic '70s progressive rock trio Ódmenn ever released. It was made at a critical point in Ódmenn's history, when the band members had agreed to take a sabbatical year while the guitarist studied law at the University of Iceland. They got together for the last time a year after the album was released and split up directly after, having played only one gig. Ódmenn was formed in early 1966 by the Jóhannsson brothers playing the most popular music clubs in Reykjavík. Most of Ódmenn's music could be categorized as protest songs or social studies touching topics like anti-war protests and fights against pollution, greed and deception, balanced with more positive stances like hope for a better world with love and eternal brotherhood. Ódmenn recorded this double album in Copenhagen with a release in late December 1970. The group made a great impression with their blooming mixture of energetic blues rock and was probably one of the best progressive rock bands in Northern Europe. There are some mellow, dissonant moments in there, too, illustrated by hazy, ornamental organ. Fifteen great songs, 70 minutes of music. Including a 12-page booklet and many never-before-seen photos, plus extensive liner notes. Members include: Eirirkur Jóhannsson (solo guitar), Jóhann G. Jóhannsson (vocals & bass), Valur Eiriksson (rhythm guitar), and Engilbert Jensen (drums).

It was a long search to locate the rights for this album, since it was not with EMI anymore. With the help of musicians and producers from The Third Eye and Freedoms Children, Shadoks found the original producer. He told Shadoks that, shortly after the album was recorded in 1968, the brother/sister band John & Philipa Cooper went to Britain and from there, they lost track. This amazing album has the same class as Billy Nichols, Duncan Browne and Blossom Toes. Many other musicians from South Africa helped out on this album, and every track is just great. Well-composed underground songs, folk-rock, effects, pop tunes -- just the right mixture for an album full of ideas and masterfully played. Perhaps one of the rarest albums from South Africa. This album would have been a great success if it was produced in the UK. It just has the right feel, with the combination of great songs with a '60s art vibe. Female/male vocals and Julian Laxton on guitar and keyboards, plus eight more musicians on the album. This LP is a perfect slice of 1969 underground folk-rock. Includes an 8-page booklet. Other band members include: Ivor Back (drums), Werner Krupski (keyboards), Art de Villiers (acoustic guitar), Bob Hill (bass), Francesco (fiddle), and Rory Blackwell (tambourine).

Format: LP
Price: $44.00
Catalog #: SHAD 123LP
Numbered edition of 500, glossy heavy sleeve on 180 gram vinyl. Originally released in Nigeria, 1977. "Tirogo is another great sample of lost African psychedelic music. It was recorded in Nigeria in 1977 and originally released on EMI, same as the great album BLO - Chapter One. This Nigerian rock-psych band Tirogo is similar to bands such as Ofege, BLO, Founders 15, Doves, and Aktion. Great African songs covered with wild guitar solos, spooky organ, great beats and strong vocals. 4 guys on the cover / 6 were actually in the band looking pretty young. It is getting harder and harder to find lost African bands since there is a big rave in the International music scene to hunt for good material. With the massive help of collectors and Now Again Records in the USA, who actually went to Nigeria to sign the boys, we are able to present this amazing album to you. It will suit the same music lovers who like Amanaz, The Witch, Question Mark and BLO."

The Icelandic prog-rock band Svanfrídur released only one album, recorded six months after they played their first gig. This short-lived band rapidly rose to fame, receiving rave reviews for live performances, but in fact, their music was way ahead of its time. They were unable to seal a recording contract, so they formed their own label -- Swan Records. When the album What's Hidden There? was released in autumn 1972, it got mixed reviews and sold only a few hundred copies, leaving the band with a great album, but sadly, not the income they had been hoping for. Recorded at London's Majestic Studios, the album was cut and pressed in England. Perhaps one of the best heavy prog/underground albums from Scandinavia, with amazing guitar and all English vocals. Would have been a famous and successful album on Decca UK. Includes a 12-page booklet. Band members: Birgir Hrafnsson (electric & acoustic guitar, vocals), Gunnar Hermannsson (bass, vocals), Sigurdur Karlsson (drums, percussion), and Pétur Kristjánsson (lead vocals).

Trúbrot was the first super-group ever founded in Iceland. It was created in May 1969 when leading members of Hljómar (trans. "Sounds") and Flowers set out to create the finest Icelandic rock group of all time. Guitarist and composer Gunnar Thórgarson, bass player and singer Rúnar Júlíusson and lead vocalist Shady Owens of Hljómar had been plotting this for some months, along with organist Karl Sighvatsson and drummer Gunnar Jökull Hákonarson of Flowers, before the band's genesis was announced publicly. These were troubled times, and Trúbrot had countless hurdles to overcome before the band eventually fell apart early in 1973. After the debut album was released in December 1969 by EMI, the vocalist Shady Owens announced that she was quitting. Trúbrot recorded 3 more albums after that which will be released on Shadoks, too. Tony Branwell of Apple Records said that Trúbrot were one of the two best bands he had seen perform on stage in the preceding six months. Really cool underground album full of musical ideas and well-crafted music, including beautiful male & female vocals. The music should appeal to listeners of UK bands such as Blossom Toes and Billy Nichols -- totally catchy underground with a touch of pop. Includes a 12-page booklet, and six bonus tracks.

Really rare album which was supposedly produced on the same label as famous Jungle. 12 songs, harmony vocals, Woodstock vibe, artrock (before artrock was known), has the same feel in parts like Spoils Of War, hippie tunes, Jack Kerouac-style lyrics/beat poetry, strong songs, cool all the way through the album."

Elonkorjuu came from Pori, Finland and was founded in 1969. At first, the sessions were done in a rather dark cellar; the musicians were young, talented and highly motivated. That same year, Elonkorjuu won second place at a competition at Helsinki's House of Culture. A short time after this, the band's success grew very fast. They toured through Finland and quickly became well-known. One of the band's highlights was the gig at the rock festival in Turku, where they performed before a hundred thousands youths who went wild about the fantastic band. By the end of the year, they decided to make the album Harvest Time, which has since reached cult status in the annals of progressive rock. This quartet are one of the many little-known bands that did heavy blues/psych with strong prog elements, drawing initially from the schools of Cream, Black Sabbath and Colosseum, but they expanded on those influences with soulful church organ and cutting guitar from leader Jukka Syrenius. A killer album from beginning to end. Heavy guitar work all over and great English vocals.

Artist: SHOES
Title: One In Versailles
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 128LP
From USA, 1975. 500 numbered LPs, heavy engraved sleeve, 180 gram pressing, 2-page insert. "Shoes were formed in Zion, Illinois, in 1974 by brothers John and Jeff Murphy, and Gary Klebe. The Murphy brothers and Klebe were high school friends and decided to form a band following graduation. In the fall of 1974, Shoes was in its infancy as a band. Members Gary Klebe, John Murphy and Jeff Murphy had just completed their first official recording project, Heads or Tails, recorded in a basement on a Teac 4-channel tape machine. In college at this time, Gary was an architecture student signed up to study abroad at the campus in Versailles, France. In his absence John and Jeff decided that it would be a fitting tribute and testament to their commitment to the new band to record a new batch of songs in their newly established home base in Jeff's small rented flat (referred to as La Cabane) and dedicate it to their pal Gary. The title would be One In Versailles, in his honor. The inspiration of Versailles, France became the basis of an imaginary long-distance romance between a boy and his overseas girlfriend. Despite the limited resources, limited equipment and strained working schedule, the elemental sounding One In Versailles proved to be a crucial link in the fundamental development of the band. The initial pressing of 300 copies have become sought-after collector's items among record collectors the world over. Appearing here on vinyl for the first time since its limited, 1975 pressing, the songs of One In Versailles provide a look inside the very earliest days of the band and represent a snapshot in the development of Shoes, one of the first do-it-yourself bands to embrace and capitalize on the home-recording technologies. The Shoes have released 20 recordings over the years. Really amazing album. Not so power-pop as the others. This has an underground charm, with lots of heavy guitar, great vocals and tight song-structure. It sails in-between a great wave/pop album with a touch of Spoils Of War avant-garde underground on a rough but clear ocean."

Catalog #: SHAD 129CD
The band Kissing Spell changed their name to Embrujo in early 1970 due to the political climate in Chile and conditions being less than ideal for a band with an English name. "Embrujo" is Spanish for "spell" or "bewitched," and their album came out on Arena Records in 1971. This record sits among the great albums from Chilean bands such as Blops, Aguaturbia, Los Jaivas and Escombros, with beautiful compositions and instrumentation, strong vocals and poetic lyrics, and is quite possibly one of the best albums in South American history. Chile seemed to be a breeding ground for extraordinary, heartfelt pop and underground music. What a shame that during the period between 1973-1990 the Pinochet dictatorship made it difficult for so many promising bands to find work. We are missing a lot of great future albums by those bands.

Among the great albums from Chile like Blops, Aguaturbia, Los Jaivas and Escombros, this album is just amazing, just like their first. Beautiful compositions and instrumentation, very well played, strong vocals and poetic lyrics; we would vote this album as one of the best from the of South America. Chile seems to be 'the county' for extraordinary pop and underground songs going right into the heart. What a shame that after 1973 until 1990 (Pinochet dictatorship), no more bands could work anymore. We are missing a lot of great future albums by those bands."

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 130CD
Kaleidoscope's sole release is one of the best psychedelic albums ever recorded and also among the rarest albums of all time. Enrique Rivas located all the original band members as well as the original cover artist. Shadoks Music signed a deal with the band, and now puts this baby out legitimately for the first time, ever. The band was not actually from Mexico: the musicians came from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Spain, and the album was recorded in 1967 in the Dominican Republic. The manager took it to Mexico where it had a tiny release of 200 copies on the Orfeon label. They were friends with Addib Casta from Ladies WC, Venezuela, so one song is by Ladies WC -- the rest are all original compositions. The music features some amazing, heavy, guitar-based psychedelia of the best kind, and there are three bonus tracks here, including a live track from 1969. The cover art has also been completely restored (bootleg versions were heavily cropped) with the original label artwork for the first time. The package also includes many photos and a band history, making this a collector's dream come true.

Artist: TRUBROT
Title: Undir Áhrifum
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 131CD
In 1969, Trúbrot was the first super-group ever founded in Iceland, comprised of members of Flowers and Hljómar. After their debut album with vocalist Shady Owens, this second album was released in 1970 without Shady on vocals. After a last concert in Iceland with the original line-up, they invited Led Zeppelin to hang out and became friends with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. When Jimmy and Robert returned to their hotel at four o'clock in the morning, they were amazed to discover that the sun was still shining bright. The sight of the midnight sun, the snow capped glaciers and the Icelandic geysers apparently inspired them to write "Immigrant Song" for the third Led Zeppelin album. Trúbrot was very much influenced by the electric music of Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young, Led Zeppelin and Keith Emerson. Trúbrot went to London to have Orange amplifiers custom-made for the band and to Copenhagen to record Undir Áhrifum at the Wifoss Studio. The album became one of the best albums of 1970. Really amazing male English vocals, great arrangements, guitars and organ, couched in the best kind of psychedelic/progressive rock, strongly influenced by the British Underground. Trúbrot recorded two more albums which will be released on Shadoks, too. Tony Branwell of Apple Records said that this band was one of the two best that he had ever seen perform on stage. Members include: Gunnar Pordarson (guitarist and composer), Rúnari Júlíussoni (bass player and singer), Magnús Kjartansson (organist) and Ólafur Gardarsson (drummer).

Artist: O BANDO
Title: O Bando
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 132CD
This album was recorded in 1969 in São Paulo by five guys and a beautiful singer named Marisa Fossa. The production was state-of-the-art, hosted by the three top producers in Brazil. It was recorded in Scatena studios in São Paulo with 8-channel equipment, which was the best you could get at the time. The music has sophisticated brass arrangements very much on par with U.S. bands Chicago Transit Authority, The Flock and Blood, Sweat & Tears with the charm and rhythms of Brazilian exoticism. If you like the album by Liverpool, you'll like this one, too. It's a real summer record that should make stoned psychedelic listeners move their hips and dance or at least tap their feet. Great guitars, smashing vocals, samba rhythms, horns, tons of effects -- a real trip to the Brazilian musical underground. Members include: Rodolpho Grani Junior (Rudy) (bass, acoustic guitar & vocals), Paulo Augusto de Castro (Paul) (lead guitar, acoustic guitar & vocals), Americo Issa (Meriquinho) (rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar & vocals), Eduardo Portes de Souza (Dudu) (drums & percussion), Diogenes Burani Di Grado Filho (Dió) (drums & percussion), Emilio Carrera Guimil (organ) and Marisa Belmonte Fossa (percussion & vocals).

Catalog #: SHAD 133CD
BUMP's 2 (the unreleased second album) was recoded in 1971, just a year later after the debut album, also on Pioneer Records and also produced by Gary A. Rubin. Paul Lupien (organ), George Runyan (bass, vocals), Alan Goldman (guitar) and Jerome Charles Greenberg (drums) recorded 8 great tracks which never came out. This is a fantastic prog/psychedelic monster, a mixture of dreamy organ psych with heavy fuzz bluster, very much like CA Quintet. Ghostly, swirly organs, burning rough guitars, sound effects, fuzz/wah-wah guitars, trippy, lysergic vocals and great melodies. A killer album from start to finish. Includes the original artwork.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 134CD
This is an unreleased album recorded for EMI France from Les Goths. They had released only two rare singles for EMI: I Remember/Turn Over and Le Jour Était Gris/Out Of The Sun in 1968. The band containing members Gino Frascone (guitar & vocals), Bruno Frascone (drums & vocals) and Bernard Faucher (bass & vocals) also recorded a complete 10 track album, which Shadoks is proud to release on CD. Les Goths' two singles reached cult status in France. Their musical influence was Cream and Jimi Hendrix and the guitar parts are reminiscent of Randy Holden. This French psychedelic band from Normandy recorded perhaps one of the best albums from that period in France -- every track is just right. Incredible, heavy psych with French and English lyrics.

Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 135LP
Numbered edition of 500; heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing; includes two double-sided inserts and one poster. "When we are talking about really rare and great albums from Mexico, such as El Tarro de Mostaza, Kaleidoscope etc. Los Ovnis' Hippies is perhaps the second rarest one right after Kaleidoscope. The band already made four LPs with cover songs for the same label. The 1968 Summer of Love and the political protest of the young rebel culture created the desire to produce a stronger album with own songs, heavier garage sounds and counter-culture lyrics. This album became something the Mexican society in 1968 was not ready for. It was too idealistic and too psychedelic to become popular and the original label released it with no promotion at all. That's why this album became so good and so rare. Los Ovins are five musicians from Mexico City . Strong garage songs, great Spanish vocals, amazing guitars, organ and rough sounds. Like a musical punch right in the face of the Mexican middle-class society. No more nice guys."

Format: CD

Catalog #: SHAD 136CD
King George Discovery's Peace Of Mind, was recorded in Sweden in 1968 with the U.S. musician King George Clemens on guitar & vocals. A close friendship to Jimi Hendrix, who also toured Sweden in 1968, dropped many tracks from the release plan when the band was recording their album, which also came out that year. All tracks that were thought to compete with the music of Jimi Hendrix were not released, until now. A collector from England found the unknown tracks, which were only pressed as a demo LP for the band. What a great find. Some tracks were placed on YouTube and collectors starting raving about this album. The guitar work is amazing -- as psychedelic as it can get. This album is released in cooperation with King George Clemens; one of the most important releases for Shadoks this year, for sure.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 137CD
1968, Hollywood, USA: The Churchill Downs recorded 16 great tracks at the studio with famous producer Gary S. Paxton. The band was very young at the time but the musical output was on the highest level you can imagine, with a damn good production. How a band like this did not become famous is a mystery. Fantastic compositions, great multi-vocal singing, strong guitars, organ, drums, bass, effects -- everything you desire in catchy underground music with tons of great ideas in it to make those songs unique. It is also everything you love about the productions of Phil Spector and Andrew Loog Oldham. The Churchill Downs produced one of the best unknown U.S. albums, along with Beauregard Ajax and Public Nuisance. Features Don Adey on guitar and vocals, Gary Dalton Stovall on guitar and vocals, Dirk Acree on bass and vocals, Mick Newton on keyboards and vocals and Al Stigler and Fred Darling on drums. If Shadoks could go back in time, let's say 40+ years, and actually release this album in 1968, they would have been rich. Why this album was never pressed is still a mystery. So -- for the first time ever -- these great songs are finally available on CD.

"Along with Kaleidoscope and Los Ovnis, this is the rarest of all Mexican psychedelic albums. Bodo Molitor recorded this album for Orfeon records, Mexico, as label mates of Kaleidoscope. Bodo created the famous cover for Kaleidoscope and several other covers for this album. Hits Internacionales was recorded in 1968 and released in 1969. Bodo was born in Germany and traveled all over the world playing music. Included here are cover versions, some of his own compositions, and an extra 4-track EP of amazing, unheard tracks. An ultra-rare original of this late '60s Mexican garage psych album is a Holy Grail for collectors, in the same league with Mexico's Kaleidoscope. After this release, Bodo left Mexico to travel the world playing with great musicians. He now lives and plays music in Cairo, Egypt, rocking the center of the Islamic world." 500 numbered/heavy sleeve/insert/180 gram pressing; the bonus 7" is on red vinyl.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SHAD 139CD
Shadoks presents on CD an unknown UK album that had great potential from Eugene Carnan -- a three-piece band from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. Musically, it is very powerful, guitar-dominated underground rock in the vein of Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Dark or Grannie, but the rarity factor is way above all those other rare UK albums, which stayed in low pressings of 99 copies and 15-20, as was the case with Dark. This extraordinarily rare album was originally only published as a private acetate in an edition of four copies. In September 1971, Eugene Carnan entered a UK-wide competition for "Best New Band," run by the famous Melody Maker magazine. They recorded the album in 1972 and took it to London to Eden Studios for a demo pressing and cut four acetates. Guitar and vocals, bass and drums -- all their own compositions. A killer album from beginning to end, now on CD.

Most do not know much about music from Bolivia. What immediately comes to mind is The Andes, La Paz and flute music by Indios. But there are some great rock and underground bands such as Wara, Climax and most of all, Estrella De Marzo. But this album (still unknown to most collectors) is not only special because it's from a country not many listeners know much about, it's also great because it is unique and well-crafted, just as strong as most "classic underground releases" from South America. If you are into wild fuzz guitar ala Zappa, and if you like Kissing Spell from Chile, beautiful vocals with strong lyrics and great beats, you will love this album. Early Pink Floyd has also influenced this album. Every track is great, full of the high spirit of progressive underground rock, as good as it can be. A Los Ninos Con Amor (trans. "To Children With Love") was recorded in 1974 with, keyboards, guitars, drums, bass & vocals.

Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 144LP
"Escombros, were at the top of the underground scene in Chile together with Los Jaivas, Blops, Aguaturbia and Kissing Spell. Recorded in 1970 for the Arena label. Only one single and one LP was released. Escombros are: Walter Sitzmann, Lito Benito, Ricardo Mendeville, Jose Rosenblut and Michel Boisier. Walter's great compositions and vocals on all tracks create a unique and strong underground vibe, with great fuzz guitars, drums, bass and organ that are much heavier than in most bands from Chile. Their influences are Jimmy Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd and Grand Funk Railroad. All English vocals. After this recording Walter left Chile, so the band split up. For us Escombros is perhaps the best example for really cool underground music from Latin America with amazing vocals and extraordinary songs. This release has two bonus tracks from the rare single." 500 numbered/heavy sleeve/180 gram pressing/insert.

Artist: SMACK
Title: Smack
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 145LP
"Smack was recorded in late July and early August 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas USA. The four Smack members were all summer scholarship music and arts students attending Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. All music tracks were cut live, only over-dubed lead vocals and background vocals. That year there were some 2800 summer students attending a 6 week summer arts scholarship session - 1800 females and 900 males. Smack was born and played a gig several weeks later and the next thing you know they were all 'stars' of the campus. Someone from the university arranged for them to go in and record an album. An original Smack LP is rare as gold dust. We have only seen 2 copies for sale the past 15 years for massive money. The music is great covers played with extra heavy fuzz guitar, vocals, bass & drums. Those versions of Cream and Hendrix songs are killer. The whole album (very well produced) has a one of a kind psychedelic feel. There are not many cover albums which gives you another perspective on those known songs. This album does for sure." Hand-numbered limited edition of 500; heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing, double-sided insert.

This album is for us the best we can do when it comes to massive detective work and patience, heart and soul and enthusiasm to explore and release an amazing unheard album such as this one. We just love it and you will love it too!" Hand-numbered limited edition of 500; heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing; four page insert.

Artist: RAIN
Title: Norsk Suite
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 147LP
"Rain, Norway's most well kept secret has been betrayed and solved! This great band has only released a very rare 45 EP as a soundtrack for the Norwegian movie Rivalen. Very much like Frank Zappa and The Mothers, Rain's complex compositions are based on the skills of modern classic composers such as Varèse and Stravinsky. As a strong influence, they've mentioned Vanilla Fudge. Ten great tracks with horns and orchestra arrangement, with great fuzz guitar, Hammond organ and amazing vocals. A Norwegian rock band who had the urge to exceed limits, both musically and technically. Rain was Carl Jorgen Kionig (drums), Knut Heljar Hagen (organ, piano, vocals, bass), Asmund Feidje (guitar, violin, vocals, bass). This album was recorded in 1969/1970, and beside their seven original compositions they play mind-blowing versions of 'A Day In The Life,' 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and 'Isolation.' Their very complex and difficult arrangements required a lot of practice to turn their concerts into a total experience with a spectacular psychedelic light-show and experiments with 'surround' sound. What a great album this is!" 500 numbered/heavy sleeve/180 gram pressing/printed inner sleeve/insert.

Artist: NGOZI, PAUL
Title: The Ghetto
Label: SHADOKS MUSIC (GERMANY)
Format: LP
Price: $42.00
Catalog #: SHAD 149LP
"Paul Ngozi (Nogozi means danger) with his band gave a popular voice to what later was called 'Zamrock,' a cool fusion of older African rhythms and '70s rockish underground modes -- never too polished, but with a tightness that might have made Anglo groups up in London sit up and take notice. The guitars are razor-sharp here which sounds great next to the harder rhythms at the bottom, and the album's mix of English and Zambian lyrics.
Paul Ngozi recorded at least ten albums, another one which is famous among collectors is Chrissy Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family. You will love this one if you liked the Witch and Amanaz. Great album, great artwork, a masterpiece from Zambia." Hand-numbered edition of 500; heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing.
