Title: Alchemical Playschool
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: CAD 032CD
Softpack CD reissue. "Alchemical Playschool is easily one of the most unusual Legendary Pink Dots albums ever released. Based on the Soleilmoon double CD Indian Soundscapes, these recordings are best enjoyed with a cold glass of Bhang Ki Thandai, following which the operation of heavy equipment or motor vehicles is strongly discouraged. Yes, this a trippy, psychedelic album, in the tradition of the Dots' Chemical Playschool albums, but it's been dusted with magical powders from the Orient, making it an altogether different experience from its predecessors. As experimental and esoteric works go, this is the band's definitive work. The album was conceived in 2004, following a Legendary Pink Dots tour. Edward Ka-Spel met with Soleilmoon owner Charles Powne, who had recently returned from a stay in India. Charles gave Edward a copy of his Indian Soundscapes 2xCD, and invited him to take the material and use it in a new Dots recording. The resulting music borrows lightly from the source material, deftly blends it with the band's signature electronic wizardry, and distills a potent brew redolent with the aromas of saffron, cardamom and flowers. We think you'll find it both irresistible and unforgettable."

Title: Alien Glyph Morphology
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: DVD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: CAV 030DVD
"Robin Storey, better known as Rapoon, is well known in ambient music circles for his extensive catalog of recordings, presently exceeding 40 albums, singles and collaborative projects released over the last 13 years. But Rapoon has always stood for more than music. The visual arts have been important to Storey since before his early days as a founding member of Zoviet France. His paintings have graced many of the album covers for both Rapoon and Zoviet France, to great acclaim, but until today his filmmaking has taken place in comparative obscurity. Alien Glyph Morphology is the name of a suite of six short movies, set to his music, of course, that make up the primary focus of this release. Using montage, slides, and slow-motion techniques Robin Storey produces hypnotic visual counterparts to his unique and atmospheric soundtracks. A short film, 'Shadow,' and two slide shows round out the collection. A limited edition set of 20 sturdy Tarot cards painted by Storey accompany the first 1000 copies."

Artist: LUSTMORD VS. METAL BEAST
Title: Side Effects
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DFX 032CD
Repressed. "This album is the result of a collaborative performance broadcast live on KUCI 89.9, Orange County, California, June 20 1997. The performance was arranged at short notice, and structured so as to be largely improvisational. While musical fads and fashions all too often dictate form and function, neither Lustmord nor Metal Beast desire to be constrained by definitions, and as such the results are a powerful, collision of noise and rhythm, with no quarter given to compromise."

Title: All Pigs Must Die
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.50
Catalog #: LEPER 004CD
"Another in the 'Cleanse The Hand That Feeds You' Leprosy Discs series, this exercise in exorcism is a sonically double-edged ritual. While the original 2001 release saw the return of the classic Death In June instrumentation of acoustic guitars and trumpet, with the addition of accordion by Andreas Ritter (Forseti), industrial elements also permeate half the album. Out of print for several years, the reissued CD comes in a foil-blocked soft-pak."

"No slavish imitators, Sweden's Down In June deconstruct and lavishly -- as well as lovingly -- reinvent songs from the Death In June catalog with their own distinctive Totenpop vision. As The Byrds were to Dylan, so Down In June are to Death In June. A very rare and surprising discovery awaits."

Catalog #: NERUS 013CD
"The soundtrack to the funeral of New Europa imprisoned by its past, an idea originally inspired by Douglas P.'s war-time experiences in Croatia between 1991-1995. This 1996 collaboration with Richard Leviathan (Strength Through Joy/Ostara) continues in a similar musical vein first seen on the Scorpion Wind project released the same year. This is now reissued in a black foil-blocked soft-pak."

Artist: DEATH IN JUNE & BOYD RICE
Title: Scorpion Wind
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: NERUS 039CD
"Originally released in 1996 as Scorpion Wind's Heaven Sent CD/LP this album has long been considered the 'lost' classic collaboration between Death In June's neo-folk pioneer Douglas P. and industrial music's renegade innovator Boyd Rice. Recorded in Australia prior to the pair starring in the cult film Pearls Before Swine, it is a unique, melodic and richly orchestrated ode to modern living, modern loving -- and modern hating. Joined by percussionist John Murphy (ex-SPK, The Associates, Current 93) for the first of what was to prove many collaborations between the 'Unregistered 3' and young Australian group Strength Through Joy (now Ostara), these recordings proved to be the perfect follow up to 1990's ground-breaking Boyd Rice & Friends album Music, Martinis & Misanthopy. However, due to legal problems with distribution, few were to hear this. Now for the first time in nearly ten years a digitally remastered CD is available including two extra tracks from the era and stunning new artwork, presented in a red and black foil-blocked 'softpak.'"

Title: Live at La Luna
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: DVD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 001DVD
"DVD reissue of the Legendary Pink Dots' first and only official live video recording. Recorded in 1997 near the end of their Hallway of the Gods tour of Canada and America, and originally issued in VHS format in 1998, Live at La Luna reveals like never before the magical atmosphere of sound and light created by Edward Ka-Spel and his talented crew. Captured by a pair of roving cameramen and a center camera filming from the balcony, the performance is presented as an ever-evolving collage of music and faces, from the keyboards of The Silverman to the saxophone flourishes of Niels van Hoorn, from the rhythm-n-bass section of Ryan Moore (Twilight Circus Dub Sound System) and Edwin von Trippenhof to the inimitable vocals of Edward Ka-Spel." It runs 60 minutes. NTSC Region 0.

Title: Abu Nidal/Coup D'Etat
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SOL 002CD
"Originally released in 1986/1987 in England, these two albums have been out of print for years. Abu Nidal/Coup d'Etat is 72 minutes of rhythmic textures and hypnotic atmosphere, carrying the listener through the mountains and deserts of Islam, through shimmering heat waves and shifting sands. The intricate and mesmerizing textures created by Muslimgauze speak of cultures and peoples in conflict, of a time and place more imaginary than real."

Artist: DEAUX, CHARLIE
Title: Zoetrope
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: DVD
Price: $12.50
Catalog #: SOL 002DVD
"Zoetrope is a haunting and explosively surreal film set in an apocalyptic, decaying world. Based on Franz Kafka's In the Penal Colony, a man is imprisoned for an unnamed crime and tortured by a nameless sadistic bureaucrat. As the chilling nightmare unfolds, the prisoner peels away the layers of his own metaphysical existence, inching ever closer to his inescapable fate. Hatched from the fertile imagination of Director Charlie Deaux (System of a Down, Mortiis), Zoetrope's richly complex visuals and dark atmosphere cast a spell of fear and terror far beyond its tightly edited 20-minute length. Deaux's obsessive attention to detail is reflected in every shot of this relentlessly paced rollercoaster ride. It's easy to wonder if he's the bastard son of Lars von Trier, or a lost cousin of the Brothers Quay. The music and sound design for Zoetrope were composed by Lustmord, and compliment the harrowing visuals perfectly. Lustmord, aka Brian Williams, is well known for his film work (Underworld, The Crow, Basketball Diaries, and more) as well as his own releases." NTSC format, Region Free. 16:9 Format.

Artist: FEAR FALLS BURNING
Title: The Infinite Sea of Sustain
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: DVD-AUDIO
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: SOL 004DVD
This is a DVD-audio release (no video content). NTSC format, assumably region free. Approximately 280 minutes of sound. "Fear Falls Burning is Dirk Serries' love letter to the world of electric guitar drones. Serries, best known for his solo act VidnaObmana, launched Fear Falls Burning in the winter of 2005 as an outlet for his fascination with lo-fi and post-rock music, and as a way to return to his roots in drone music, where he first began 22 years ago. By processing the sounds of his Les Paul guitars through a large and elaborately configured collection of effects pedals, Serries produces improvisational music that is by turns meditative, rhythmic and occasionally thunderous. A typical performance begins with a simple, sustained guitar chord. This opening sound seeds the ground from which the entire piece is grown. As the looping and processing techniques are applied, the music evolves, dictating the direction of the performance. It is truly an improvisational process, but at the masterful hands of Serries, one that spins a new and mysterious kind of music, fully infused with a rare passion and soul. Organic variations and imperfections are spontaneously introduced, giving the performance a rich hue of unpredictability. Looped patterns of sound rise and fall, mutated by a succession of real-time treatments. This improvisational technique is the defining characteristic of Fear Falls Burning." Limited edition of 500 copies.

Artist: WENT, JOHANNA
Title: Club Years
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: DVD/CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 006DVD
"Johanna Went is a pioneering performance artist who began performing as part of a street theater troupe that traveled America and Europe in the 1970s. Following her years on the road, she settled in L.A. in the late '70s and began transforming her street theater performances into what would become her signature style. Using found props and hand-sewn costumes, she developed a wild stage act that included live musical backing from legendary performers such as Z'ev and KK Barret of the Screamers. Combining a wild, chaotic performing style packed with visual excitement, gallons of blood, streams of multicolored liquids, giant bloody tampons, enormous sewn fabric sculptures, wacky scary costumes and enough Styrofoam and found film stock to fill a room, Johanna packed the clubs. For more than ten years she was known as an innovative performance artist, particularly for the visual richness of her on-stage characters. She was equally renowned for her use of live improvised music that crossed over from jazzy rock grooves and jungle beats to electronic soundscapes and industrial noise. And always, above all the wild, driving music: Johanna's completely stream-of-conscious vocals. The DVD's main attraction is its 80 minutes of live performance footage shot on video tape at clubs and galleries in the Los Angeles area from 1977 through 1987. The eight performances range from an early and very raw solo performance by Johanna Went at a small storefront club to a pair of performances video taped by Academy Award-winning avant garde film director Shirley Clarke. The recordings on the bonus CD reveal a wacky sense of New Wave insanity that reminds us of the Residents if they were a punk band backing Ornette Coleman. It collects for the first time all of Johanna Went's studio recordings written and produced by Johanna and her musical collaborator Mark Wheaton. This includes the complete Hyena LP, first released on Poshboy Records and now remixed and remastered, as well as the songs from their first 45 rpm single originally released on Boyd Rice's Graybeat label."

Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: 2CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 046CD
"2CD of early rarities, back in print, now mid-price. This collection of songs brings together tracks from numerous rare cassettes, compilations and unreleased recordings, including the oldest surviving recording of the LPDs, made when the band was still called One Day. It should very much be considered a companion to Under Triple Moons, released recently by ROIR. Both CDs present the band's earliest works, many of which have been impossible to obtain until now."

Title: Canta Mientras Puedas
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 047CD
1996 release, repressed. "Canta Mientras Puedas is of course Spanish for 'Sing While You May', and there are doubtless many people who will be asking themselves why The Legendary Pink Dots have chosen this unfamiliar language to give their second anthology album a title. The reason is that all members of The Legendary Pink Dots recently became followers of the obscure Romanian philosopher Iancu Ponguthrescu, who -- unlike many visionaries -- saw a wonderful, optimistic future for the world. Indeed the blessed Iancu predicted that a glorious golden age would begin for the planet in 1997 and would last for 25 million years. To this end, all wars would cease on December 31, 1996, all races and religions would unite, everyone would simultaneously turn into vegetarians, the city of Frankfurt would become a permanent free festival, and all borders would be cast aside. People would smile ALL THE TIME. The only exception would be a small village in Argentina called Los Voyos, where a mysterious cloud would hover, causing sore throats for the entire population of 68 people. This ailment would be incurable -- the people would never be able to sing again! Hence, the Pink Dots feel it's necessary to warn these innocent villagers now so they can move a little down the dusty path to a safer place. But how could the Pink Dots do this? The answer naturally is an album collecting together all of their seductive songs of the last five years. An album so beautiful and melodic that it would be piped through loudspeakers in the streets of Buenos Aires, and just maybe someone visiting the city would buy it and take heed of its very serious message. Including rare tracks and previously unreleased versions is the icing on the cake."

Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 053CD
Repressed; original release 1997. "Jaal ab Dullah makes a crazy lunge out the noise gate and onto the the dance floor, then gets sucked into a jet engine and ejected into space. All in the first song. It's a wild ride from start to finish, with quake-damaged noisebeats tumbling onto exploding turntables and hip-hop lava flows overwhelming The Quiet Village while Dub Demons do the Funky Monkey on a bed of hot coals."

Artist: ZOVIET FRANCE
Title: Digilogue
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 062CD
"Digilogue was originally issued in 1996 as a limited edition clear vinyl LP. It was followed two years later in 1998 by a CD containing three bonus tracks. The CD has been out-of-print for more than a year. As of today, it's the only Zoviet France release in circulation worldwide. The rest of their catalog is out-of-print! The music recorded for Digilogue examines the subtle and shifting nuances that contrast the digital and analog worlds. Zoviet France have always professed their fascination with the failings of the technology by which music is produced, recorded, mass-produced and played back. They have frequently adapted the faults that their own machines develop into means of reshaping raw sound, the basic material with which they work: 'All audio equipment distorts sound to some degree and, eventually through mechanical and electrical failure, fucks it up. Since indeterminacy as a compositional parameter has been a constant in our work, this often produces what we regard as interesting new developments. Digilogue was recorded using a mixture of failing analog equipment and high-end digital equipment, and monitored in our studio exclusively on damaged hi-fi speakers. Sound can be as dirty and as clumsy as anything else we perceive with our senses. This is just as true of sound generated in the digital domain, much as we would all like to believe the claims of near-perfection made by audio equipment manufacturers.'"

Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 073CD
1998 release. "Manchester, England's Muslimgauze has recorded a album of propulsive Middle Eastern grooves layered with Arabic radio samples and non-stop percussion loops. Hussein Mahmood Jeeb Tehar Gass sees Muslimgauze taking a turn away from his recent electronic distortion experiments into a smoother flowing rhythmic current. The harsh war field atmospheres of the past have been replaced by tricky beats and science fiction noisescapes. Imagine distilling the essence of the seething Gaza strip into a fizzing ambient/techno cocktail and you've got the latest Muslimgauze sound. In the increasingly predictable world of electronic music we're confident you'll never find anything remotely like Muslimgauze." Limited stock.

Title: Paradise Disowned
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SOL 096CD
Repressed. "Paradise Disowned was originally released on vinyl by Side Effects in 1984. As the second Lustmord album, Paradise Disowned marked a transition from the apocalyptic industrial noisescapes of the first eponymous Lustmord album, released in 1982, to a more darkly atmospheric, though no less disturbing style of music. It is notable for setting the groundwork for latter recordings with it's extensive use of subterranean recordings at such locations as deep nuclear shelters, the cave at Craig-Y-Ddinas (Wales) and the crypt of Chartres Cathedral, along with disturbing abattoir recordings and at the site of the original Bedlam hospital."

Title: The Monstrous Soul
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SOL 097CD
Repressed. "The Monstrous Soul was conceived in Sheffield in 1990 by B. Lustmord and Clock DVA founder Adi Newton. First released by London label World Serpent, it followed the seminal and highly influential dark ambient album Heresy (Soleilmoon SOL 9 CD). Although the release dates were barely a year apart, The Monstrous Soul marked a turning point for Lustmord, one that mapped the future more than it mirrored the past. Much more digital crap and electronic processing was employed this time, where much of the material on Heresy utilized acoustic sound sources and traditional analog recording technologies. The Monstrous Soul dedicated itself to creating a environment of gloom in which the listener was totally enveloped by an hour long soundscape best described as a journey through a frozen hell. At the time The Monstrous Soul was recorded, the legendary B. Lustmord resided in a squat in London, near the Oval cricket ground, just around the corner from David Tibet, founder of Current 93. It takes little imagination to connect the bleak visual landscape of south London's worst slum to Lustmord's grim electronics. This wasn't simply a fantasy video game soundtrack, it truly reflected the environment from which is came. After being out of print for more than three years, it gives us the greatest pleasure to bring back this classic work."

Title: Heresy
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: SOL 099CD
"It's not often that an album comes along that both initiates and defines a genre. From the deepest vault at Soleilmoon, precisely such a cherished but long unavailable classic has been remastered, repackaged and re-issued. Heresy, the album that launched and defined the dark ambient genre when it was first released in 1990, has been hailed by critics and fans as one of the most important works of its time. Nearly 15 years after its release it regularly features on top-ten lists of ambient music. Heresy was recorded in various subterranean locations and manipulated in the studio with Andrew Lagowski providing engineering and additional programming. It was the first Lustmord album to feature extensive sampling and computer assisted sound design. Recent improvements in sound technology permitted Lustmord to re-master and significantly improve on the original recordings for this new version, which comes in a digipak and even bears a new catalog number."

Title: Sufiq
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $7.00
Catalog #: SOL 101CD
Repressed; original release 2000; 26 minute EP, with 9 shorter tracks. "Sufiq was recorded in November of 1997, just before the beginning of Bryn's last and most productive year." From Muze: "Presented in stark, white packaging, with Jones' hand-scrawled track listing adding an especially poignant note, Sufiq is an astonishing Muslimgauze opus and an ideal introduction for the uninitiated. Serpentine sax and meshes of urgent electronic and hand-drum rhythms immediately usher the listener into Jones' singular, sumptuous Saracen soundworld."

Title: Veiled Sisters Remix
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 105CD
"Veiled Sisters was first released by Soleilmoon as a double CD in 1993 (SOL 20 CD). It was received with great acclaim at the time, and is still enjoying steady sales nearly ten years later. Bryn Jones, AKA Muslimgauze, recorded a follow-up in 1996, in which he reworked and recycled the materials into another album. It was delivered to Soleilmoon more as an afterthought than something he intended us to issue. Veiled Sisters Remix, as the piece was called, was held back from release at Bryn's request, with the reason being given generally that he wanted us to release something else that was 'newer and better', in his words. Now more than three years after his death, and with the continued consent of his family, we are pleased to finally be able to issue this forgotten gem of music. It's typical of its period, a time in which his work was reaching a creative zenith, but it stands out for it's unusual use of a single album as its source. In the time between the original Veiled Sisters and the Remix Bryn acquired and mastered the use of nearly all of the professional studio equipment that was so important to his later works. With this version he felt that he'd finally achieved the true vision of the album that he'd set out to record three years previously. Veiled Sisters Remix was designed by Alexander Baumgardt, the noted German designer who designed Hummus. Both CDs have a similar appearance at first glance, but they are in fact two distinctly different albums."

Title: Collateral Salvage
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 121CD
"For his 25th CD as Nocturnal Emissions, Nigel Ayers has created a work that balances noise and vocal samples against a wild array of loops and rhythm tracks. It's a tantalizingly spicy cocktail that sounds nothing like an out-of-control hip-hop dump truck being driven backwards through an octogenarian's barn dance. Collateral Salvage is beat-oriented toe-tappin' music constructed from hundreds of different samples of indie guitar-pop, interspersed with fragments of song and surreal speech. Strong bass lines run throughout, and the rhythms are a blend of funk and exotic eastern promise. Subtle tonalities, acoustic guitar flavors, swingin' saxophones, flutes and horns are piled high over tabla and soaring vintage analog synthesizers. Mbiras mix with driftwood marimbas, wicky-wicky guitars and pitch-shifted sitars in a swirling belly-dance dub sock-hop. Collateral Salvage was inspired by the sounds of modern Morocco. Late at night, lying in a bath, listening to the output of three different nightclubs, each with their own blend of local music mixed with international pop hits, all in a constant struggle for dominance, with water running in and out of the ears. The resourcefulness of human endeavor in the Third World and its contrast with the luxuries and carefree wastefulness of the developed world provided the foundation for the album. This is the music of resistance against the constant war being waged by the powerful elite in rich nations against the poor. When Bush says 'you're either with us or you're against us' Ayers replies 'There is no separation. Social divides are socially constructed. A forgotten branch of the avant-garde once suggested that art can direct thought along new lines and enable us to generate more positive patterns of social behavior'."

Title: Red Shift
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 123CD
"Red Shift fuses blistering hypnotic break beats with dark atmospheric sound textures and derives its inspiration from the images of distant galaxies and planets captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. Imaginings of distant space are counterbalanced by the gritty reality of living and creating in the dense urban environment of London and the impact this has on everyday aural experiences. Beats and breaks are constructed individually and meticulously in the break beat science style and merged with sampled and synthesized sound to create a compelling sonic experience."

Artist: ALP
Title: Out and about with Alp
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 124CD
"Out And About With Alp is Roger Horberry's second album. It's a continuation of his single-minded obsession with the tiny sounds of everyday life in Amsterdam. His debut solo CD, At Home With Alp (Soleilmoon, 1999), focused on the world of interiors. This release documents and reinterprets the secret sounds of the streets, canals and parks of Amsterdam city centre. Roger Horberry was a long-time member of the influential group O Yuki Conjugate. His background in atmospheric ambient music is much in evidence in this new work, along with numerous elements of minimalism and musique concrete."

Artist: NERELL, LOREN
Title: Taksu
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 125CD
"Loren Nerell's association with Soleilmoon Recordings dates back to his 1996 release Lilin Dewa, as well as the more recent Indonesian Soundscapes. Taksu takes cues from both of these albums, blending environmental sounds and Balinese instruments together into a glowing, amorphous cloud of spine-tingling sound. Two musicians come to mind when listening to Taksu: Jon Hassell, who popularized Fourth World music, and Brian Eno, the father of Ambient music. While sounding nothing like the work of either artist, Loren Nerell's music takes inspiration from both of them. His music is evocative of mist-covered mountains and slow-motion waterfalls, so it owes something to Hassell. But it also pays tribute to the patient genius of Eno, with its endlessly evolving atmosphere, in which there is no beginning or end, only the present. In his liner notes for the CD booklet, Djam Karet founder Chuck Oken, Jr. describes the music as a 'sound pool' that the listener is immersed in. His words couldn't be more accurate, and it's no exaggeration to say that putting this record on is like waking up at sunrise, deep in the tropical Balinese rainforest, surrounded on all sides by the sounds of the jungle. To describe ambient or atmospheric music as 'a soundtrack' is clichéd, but it's really the best way to talk about Taksu."

Title: Re-Mixs Volume 1 + 2
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: 2CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 131CD
"Seven years ago, way back in 1996, we released Re-mixs (SOL 37 CD), the first album in which Muslimgauze remixed his own music. Ever the perfectionist, he didn't trust anyone else with the job (and for the rest of his short life never expressed any enthusiasm for anyone else's treatments of his work). Two years later he surprised us with a follow-up album, Remixs Vol 2 (SOL 78 CD). Both releases were limited editions, and have been out of print for years. On each CD Bryn Jones (Muslimgauze), reworked his own material to the point where it became nearly unrecognizable, resulting in entirely new works. Many people consider the Remixs CDs to be among his best albums, and we're pleased to bring them back into print, packaged together for the first time, and offered at a friendly price." Regular non-limited jewel box edition. "Although Muslimgauze was never known for making particularly dance-oriented music, Syrinjia was a rare exception to the start-stop noisy feedback-driven assault that defined his style. This change in direction, more a detour, really, was the result of a simple request put to him to make an album that DJs could play for people who might not normally appreciate what he was doing. Rather than look at the request as a demand to compromise or sell out to commercial requirements, Bryn took it as an opportunity to explore a completely different foundation from which to work. While it could be said that the majority of his songs find their inspiration in Arabic or Islamic traditions, Syrinjia breaks the mold by looking west towards Jamaica and its vital reggae scene. The beats are rock steady and a sinuous bass line bubbles underneath at a rolling boil, and it's standing room only once again on Air Palestine flight 132 to Kingston. This regular edition is presented in a standard jewelbox and comes with a friendly price."

Title: Eternal Ice Melts
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 133CD
Voice Sphere Remixes by Lull, Seetyca, Clemens Presser and Submerged. "Lull is the name of the dark ambient side project of Mick Harris, former drummer for Napalm Death and current leader of challenging industrial music band Scorn. German artist Seetyca is a prolific artist who records his bleak, isolationist soundscapes music for many labels, including darkwinter.com. Clemens Presser, another German artist, has contributed to several compilations and is now working on his first solo album. Kurt Gluck runs the Ohm Resistance label and is a famous drum'n'bass DJ. He has collaborated with Bill Laswell and John Zorn, and regularly moves back and forth between the dance and experimental music scenes. Franziska Baumann is fascinated by the glacier as a listening space. She has been examining the forms of sound in and upon the glacier, inspired by the enormous tide of ice and its multilayered temporal and spatial dimensions, and she sets her own voice in a dialogue with its icy spaces. Using stereo, zoom and contact microphones, Franziska Baumann senses the aliveness and dynamics of ice and the poetry of the sounds that live in glacial crevasses and grottos. The sounds of the glacier (creaks, drips, rumbles, shuffles etc.) were recorded at different times on and within. Her voice touches the icy crevasse walls in their various states, from karstic to icy smoothness."

The first release, naturally titled Volume 1, encapsulates both artist's love for desolate, minimal music, and features three 20 minute pieces of richly melancholic textural music. It's a CD that will be appreciated by fans of microscopic ambient music, and the start of a project that will unleash Continuum's willful vision of music that transcends the barriers of genre and style."

Title: Speaker of Turkish
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 138CD
Regular digipak edition. "Speaker of Turkish is the first completely new Muslimgauze album to be released in more than two years. It's one of several albums recorded by Bryn Jones in a final year-long burst of creativity that peaked in the spring of 1998, shortly before his sudden and unexpected death on January 14, 1999. It consists of six long tracks. The first edition of Speaker of Turkish was released in January, in a limited edition hand-made papier-mâché case, with a double-sided windowsticker and a hand-numbered 2006 mini-calendar card included inside. This second edition is packaged in a digipak, with new artwork throughout: Colorful Islamic burial banners on the outside, and a mountain of sticky dates...eaten after the daily fast during Ramadan...on the inside. The music is exactly the same on both editions."

Artist: MENCHE, DANIEL
Title: Scattered Remains: Early Rarities
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: 2CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 139CD
"Keeping track of the musical output of Daniel Menche has never been easy. Besides his numerous albums and singles, released by an eclectic range of labels, he has contributed countless tracks to compilations, many of which reached only the smallest of audiences. Scattered Remains tracks his progress from 1995 through 1999, collecting the best of these pieces, now fully remastered, onto two full-length CDs. With the passing of time it has become nearly impossible to find many of the original releases these tracks came on, making this rarities collection a must-have for long-time fans and new converts alike. Besides the material culled from CD compilations, three tracks previously only available on vinyl appear in digital form for the first time ever. The list of labels involved reads like a who's-who of cutting-edge music in the '90s: Banned Productions, Ash International, 23five, Noise Museum, Self Abuse, Isomorphic, KAON, Shirocoal, Suterfuge, G.M.B.H. and of course, Soleilmoon."

Artist: PARKIN, NICK
Title: Refract
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 140CD
"Nick Parkin's latest release on Soleilmoon Recordings, draws its inspiration from the movement of light and water. To create this album Parkin electroacoustically manipulated and blended a variety of gongs and other metallic percussion with environmental field recordings. It's eight tracks of intense, multi-layered work evoking hidden subterranean waters and gloomy oceanic depths, where shards of light only occasionally penetrate. Sonic images conjuring reverberant aquatic chambers, storm-swept surfaces and horizons abound, while winds and other elemental phenomena bring about transmutations, distillations, evaporations and cycles of tides."

Artist: LUSTMORD
Title: The Place Where The Black Stars Hang
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 141CD
Remastered Edition. "The Place Where The Black Stars Hang was first released in 1994 on Side Effects, via Soleilmoon and while the earlier Lustmord album Heresy (Soleilmoon) gave birth to the 'dark ambient' genre, it is The Place Where The Black Stars Hang that defines it. It's a work regularly cited by critics, audiences and musicians as being amongst the very best and most influential albums of its decade . Black Stars has been unavailable since 2002. It has been re-mastered and given new artwork for this edition. The differences are subtle yet powerful, giving the album a more nuanced feeling of space and detail than ever before."

Artist: ROACH & LOREN NERELL, STEVE
Title: Terraform
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 143CD
"Terraform is the first full collaborative album for longtime friends Steve Roach and Loren Nerell. The two composers met in LA in 1981, back in the early days of the electronic music scene. It was a time when like-minded musicians who understood the importance of emerging technology were coming together in local clubs and performance venues to share what they knew and learn from one another. After years of friendship and occasional musical collaboration the two decided to convene in a relaxed setting to see what they could distill from a blending of their collective talents and individual styles to accomplish common aims. Terraform emerged from their mutual desire to create an organic, surreal and deeply ambient environment of languorous humid soundscape environments. Through a labyrinth of studio techniques, a kind of audio terraforming developed. Heavily textured and mood altering, the long uninterrupted flow seemingly slows time down by way of the surreal dark ambient soundforms found in much of Roach's work. Nerell brings the steamy, evanescent blend of his mutated Indonesian sources, a signature sound that defines his previous releases for Amplexus, Side Effects and Soleilmoon."

Artist: MUSLIMGAUZE
Title: Arabbox
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $13.00
Catalog #: SOL 144CD
"Arabbox was recorded in 1993 following the first Gulf War. 10 years later, following the second Gulf War, Soleilmoon is pleased to finally release this important Muslimgauze album. It's commonly known that Bryn Jones, the late musician behind Muslimgauze, was driven by the passion of the Palestinian people's fight for an independent homeland. What is less well understood is how he found inspiration in other parts of the Muslim world, including Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. India, with its dominant Hindu culture, might seem like an odd place to include in the list, until you remember that more than one hundred million Muslims live there. In fact Jones, who loved language and wordplay (consider the name 'Muslimgauze', for example), frequently plundered the south Asian subcontinent throughout his long musical career for song titles and album names, coming up with gems like 'Old Bombay Vinyl Junkie' and 'Tandoori Dog'. So it's not surprising that two song titles on Arabbox can be traced to India. 'Ganges Swimmer', heard in another form on the Staalplaat CD Izlamaphobia, and 'Firozsha Baag', the fictitious Bombay (now Mumbai) setting for a collection of interconnected stories by Indo-Canadian author Rohington Mistry. Thus it is appropriate that the images and packaging of this release are derived from India. But Iraq is very much in the news again, and that country is not neglected here. Track names like 'Kurdish Red', 'Sadaambush', and 'Basra' all come directly from that region. Incredibly, it seems the more things change, the more they stay the same. Stylistically, the songs of Arabbox follow other works recorded by Muslimgauze in the early 1990's. Fans familiar with the Soleilmoon double CD Veiled Sisters will recognize the flowing, humanistic sounds, natural sounding percussion, and gently shimmering keyboards that sent the reviewers running to their dictionaries to search for new words to describe what they were hearing. Now that Bryn is gone we're left to listen to his work and interpret his genius on our own."

Artist: ARANOS
Title: Mother Of Moons Bathing
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 145CD
"Aranos (pronounced Aranyosh) is a prolific composer and storied multi-instrument performer from the Czech part of Bohemia, by way of Ireland, where he lives near his friend and frequent collaborator Steve Stapleton of Nurse With Wound. Mother of Moons Bathing is his first release for Soleilmoon, but his lengthy discography includes releases issued by Beta-Lactam Ring Records, Brainwashed, Crouton, Klanggalerie, Noise Museum and United Dairies as well as his own label, Pieros. The album covers a lot of ground, and refuses to be categorized, unless 'Aranos' can be its own category. It opens with 'Awaking Horns,' a minimalist piece built around a simple repeating click track containing absolutely no horns whatsoever. 'New Boyfriend' begins as a jaunty ode to new-found love, but the conversation between mother and daughter turns dark as it's revealed that the new boyfriend has a dodgy past with little girls. 'Some Clowns Are Not Funny' and 'Almost Pulled Through' are a pair of scary electro-acoustic roller coaster rides that sound like they might have escaped from Steve Stapleton's little shop of horrors. The fifth song, 'Legs Thighs Splits' returns to the gently fun whimsy started with 'New Boyfriend,' but trades literal meaning for delicious texture and experimentation. 'I Saw Women's Rising Fry' is a song of fearlessly eccentric lyrics married to complex, brain-tingling instrumental arrangements. 'Ta-taa-ta, Taah merged' is a side dish of looped, sampled vocal minimalism leading into the the longest track on the CD, 'Towards Glittering Warm Dumplings,' a rolling trance-dance weighing in at more than 21 minutes. 'Invisibility Cloak of Time,' another minimalist electro-acoustic instrumental, closes the album. The total length of Mother of Moons Bathing is 71 minutes 41 seconds, and it's sheer bliss from start to finish."

Artist: BASS COMMUNION VS. MUSLIMGAUZE
Title: bcvsmgcd
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 146CD
Compilation of the complete recordings between Muslimagauze and Bass Communion; recorded 1996/97, final mix 1999. This supersedes SOL 089 & 106. "Some of the other music on the tapes was so far removed from the source material that I suggested to Bryn that I use it as the basis for a collaborative project. I would take his rhythms and build something new out of them with further overdubbing and editing. He liked the idea and several more DAT swaps and a few months later we had completed the Bass Communion vs. Muslimgauze album, which alas we were unable to secure a release for during Bryn's lifetime (partly because his extreme work rate meant that there was always a backlog of Muslimgauze releases). The five pieces completed while he was alive were eventually issued in 1999 on Soleilmoon, and later on I completed two additional pieces that had been left uncompleted at the time of Bryn's death, and these were released as a companion EP in early 2000. Both releases have been out of print for some time, but I'm happy that the music is available once again on this new Bass Communion vs. Muslimgauze complete edition."

Title: The Religious Experience
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: LP
Price: $32.00
Catalog #: SOL 147LP
"The simultaneous release of 3/4HadBeenEliminated's new CD and LP, titled Theology and The Religious Experience, respectively. 3/4HadBeenEliminated was founded in 2002 in Bologna, Italy as a trio, with Stefano Pilia, Claudio Rocchetti and Valerio Tricoli. An eponymous album was released in 2003 by Bowindo. In 2004 the group welcomed Tony Arrabito and became a quartet. The next year Hapna put out their second album A Year of the Aural Gauge Operation, and in 2006 the band self-released a 7" single, 'DimethylAtonalCalcine.' The group straddles the line between live improvisation and studio experimentation, blending and shaping raw sounds into living pieces, then gently dissecting the delicately structured songs into disruptive sonic excursions more evocative of moving shadows and swirling leaves than recognizable tunes. Stasis and stability are nowhere to be found here. Instead, an ever-changing dialog between structure and chaos shifts from one performer to the next, never resting long before launching again into shuddering flight. Acoustic instruments and vocals form a familiar reference point, but studio treatments take the music into psychedelic and cinematic realms. The Religious Experience is a riotously colored vinyl LP, presented in a deluxe hand-made sugarcane fiber cover, with a delicately perfumed inner sleeve and silkscreened insert, and is limited to 225 copies."

Title: Theology
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD BOX
Price: $22.00
Catalog #: SOL 148CD
"Theology is presented in a wooden box with a hinged cover decorated with layers of hand-painted tracing paper, and is limited to 450 copies on CD. The two albums -- and their music -- should be considered as mirror opposites. Where theology is a completely artificial system of belief, a religious experience is the immediate experience of the thing itself. Likewise, the music on Theology is complex and elaborate, while The Religious Experience is much simpler, going directly to the heart of the material comprising Theology. Thus, the two works are independent, yet relate to each other as mother and daughter."

Title: The War Against...
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 153CD
"It may be difficult for some to acknowledge, but the Cold War is over. In its place: people. We have chosen to create new folk devils and to instill new, more insidious moral panics as a consequence. The War Against... what or who? Reformed Faction is a new band featuring Robin Storey and Mark Spybey. The War Against... is their second CD, following Vota. This new album was cultivated from hours of improvisations made while watching Werner Herzog movies and drinking red wine. Spybey would record Storey and then manipulate the sounds, combining rough mixes of the pieces with sounds of his own. Although the most of the music was recorded over the course of a weekend, it took several months to assemble the album. Themes from the recording sessions were played in live concerts and then reworked for the final version of the album. The War Against... is presented in a lavishly produced cardboard minibox with pictures featuring postcards of artwork by the band. It is limited to 400 copies, and closely resembles the packaging for Rapoon's From Shadows Sleep CD, released in 2006."

Title: Eucalypse
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $26.00
Catalog #: SOL 154CD
"The Tasmanian Blue Gum tree, Eucalyptus Globulus, is native to Tasmania and southern Australia. Eucalyptus trees are uniquely suited to the varied ecologies of Australia, and there is no other continent more closely associated with one genus of tree. Its leaves are the food of choice of the koala, and its flowers attract bees and hummingbirds. Out of approximately 300 identified species, Blue Gums are now the eucalyptus most frequently found in other parts of the world. Throughout the tropics they are known for their ability to dry out swampy areas, making them a valuable weapon in the fight against malaria, a disease caused by parasites carried in female Anopheles mosquitos, which breed in standing water. Eucalyptus Globulus was first brought to India in the late 18th century. Large plantations were establish in Kerala in 1863, but other than small amounts of oil distilling, little use has been made of the fast growing trees. Instead, they have thrived in the moist, foggy hills, spreading far across the landscape and transforming the ecosystem in the process. With their deep roots they lower water tables, depriving native species of the moisture necessary to survive the annual dry season, while the anti-bacterial properties of the 'blue gum' secretions they drop on the soil further suppress the germination and growth of other plants. An ancient and intricate web of life has been disrupted, and native plants, insects and animals are being driven to extinction. Humans, who have long been a part of the local ecosystem, are adaptable and will survive, but the biodiversity of an entire region is under threat from a single exotic species. It is truly a eucalyptus apocalypse. It is a eucalypse. At Soleilmoon, packaging and presentation are never overlooked. This release comes in a hand-crafted round wooden box with screenprinted swiveling lid. The box contains one CD and four full-color cards. Only 1,000 copies of this handsome CD have been made, and there will be no follow-up editions released."

Artist: BASS COMMUNION
Title: Loss
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD/DVD_AUDIO
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 155CD
"The new Bass Communion album Loss is not about the violent moment of loss, but its aftermath. The crushing melancholia, the endless questions of 'what if?' and 'why?', as well as the concepts of regret, missed opportunity, or a feeling or moment in time that can never be recaptured. But even in the midst of this gloomy scene, hope and light are born, for loss is never total. Memory lingers, a residue of evidence is left behind, and life goes on. Steven Wilson, the man behind Bass Communion, says 'For me, the album is an extension of the previous release, Ghosts on Magnetic Tape, which relates to Electronic Voice Phenomena, or the idea that the dead can still communicate with the living world through recorded media. In order to try to capture this feeling I wanted the music to leave a spectral, ghostly impression, and to have an organic decaying quality, like something trying to break through from another world. To this end my musical sources were mainly 78 rpm records, a vibraphone and an upright piano. No synths or electronics were used, only organic sources or instrumentation that has been around for at least the last century.' Although best known for his rock band Porcupine Tree and his production and mixing work for artists as diverse as Opeth and Yoko Ono, Steven Wilson sees Bass Communion as his personal labor of love. In Bass Communion we hear not only the music nearest to his heart, but the music closest to what he himself listens to: 'In freeing myself from thinking in terms of melody or rhythm, and focusing purely on the texture and inherent qualities of pure sound, I believe the music achieves a purity of intent and spirit, as a means to express some of my innermost feelings, such as loss, at a much deeper level.' Following a limited edition vinyl release, Loss is being issued in unlimited digital glory, as a two disc set consisting of a high resolution 5.1 surround sound DVD-Audio disc and a standard stereo CD."

Artist: PEOPLE LIKE US & ERGO PHIZMIZ
Title: Perpetuum Mobile
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $16.00
Catalog #: SOL 156CD
"Perpetuum Mobile is the result of a uniquely schizophrenic 'open source' compositional process: the UK's finest collage composers (collage-posers?) Ergo Phizmiz and People Like Us (aka Vicki Bennett) uploaded files to a shared server, downloaded and processed each other's work, and flung the resulting fragments back at each other. The result is an interpenetrating audio-collage so intricate that neither party can recall who did what to whom. So far, so avant-garde; but what makes this record different is that Ergo and Vicki then wrote and sang their own vocals on top of their Frankenstein creation. Here you will find slyly absurdist lyrics replete with monkeys, carousels, trousers, apple trees, tinkling bells, dogs, sausages, whiskey, and cannibalism. No matter how fraught with trauma, these ballads and ditties are sung with a straight face and mixed front and center, and the results feel like 1930s British music hall standards from an alternate universe: half Ivor Cutler, half George Formby. The astonishing thing is that for all this jiggery-pokery, Perpetuum Mobile makes for an exhilarating, remarkably fresh pop album. It works."

Artist: SUNS OF ARQA
Title: Suns of Arqa Re-Mixs Muslimgauze
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: SOL 158CD
"When Satoshi Morita introduced Muslimgauze to Suns of Arqa he had a good hunch the two musicians would form a connection. Bryn Jones (Muslimgauze) and Michael Wadada (Suns of Arqa) were already deeply immersed in the kinds of rhythmic music made far from England's rainy shores. Jones' fascination with the cause of Palestine found an outlet through his prolific musical output, and Wadada's interest in Jamaican reggae and Eastern mysticism was likewise reflected in his own recordings. But they moved in different circles and had never crossed paths, despite living relatively close to one another. Bryn Jones in particular was well known for his reclusiveness and lack of curiosity about other music (and musicians), so it's no surprise that it took a Japanese label owner to bring them together. Morita knew both men individually, liked their music enough to release it on his label Gift, and intuitively saw the potential in a collaboration between the two. He arranged an introduction in 1996, and like a spark landing on dry tinder, a musical firestorm blew up that summer. Several collaborations by mail were produced in the two and a half years preceding Jones' sudden and unexpected death in January 1999 from a fungal infection of the blood. The final sessions are presented today on this CD. Suns of Arqa Re-Mixs Muslimgauze tips the scales at nearly 74 minutes, with 21 songs forming an unmistakable hybrid of the two bands' styles. Wadada's Caribbean beats pulse and flow alongside Jones' staccato gunshot rhythms in a true blending of the two artists' music. While it's true that Bryn Jones is gone, we take comfort knowing that Muslimgauze lives on in the creative expression of the multitude of musicians whose lives he touched. For Wadada, this album will stand as a lasting tribute to a friend and creative collaborator. At Soleilmoon, packaging and presentation are never overlooked. This CD is presented in a square black folder made of sugar cane fibers, and the whole thing is covered with a translucent vellum over-wrap. Only 500 copies of this handsome CD have been made."

Title: I Am The Source Of Light, I Am Not A Mirror
Label: SOLEILMOON RECORDINGS
Format: 3CD BOX
Price: $48.00
Catalog #: SOL 165CD
"Reformed Faction are Robin Storey and Mark Spybey. Their new release I Am The Source of Light, I Am Not a Mirror follows their 2007 Soleilmoon release The War Against, and is their third album. Reformed Faction did not set out to record a triple album, but that is exactly what they have done. Reformed Faction do not talk about making music. They make music. They assemble and record and use improvised material to stimulate the development of composed pieces. The music was assembled in the same way that the CD package was: through active collaboration. 'What folks probably don't realize is that we have always embraced technology. We use technology, we aren't governed by it. We have to learn how to use equipment in our own way, which means that instruction manuals are never referred to. We make music. We try not to theorise, and we avoid interpretation or analysis of our music like the plague.' This is an homage, of sorts, to the last 40 years of music making. Robin began as a guitarist, Mark as a drummer. Throughout their careers they have neither deliberately nor consciously eschewed the use of conventional instruments or traditional compositional techniques. They do not regard themselves as an 'experimental' band, preferring to leave the laboratory safe in the hands of physicists and technicians. A long time ago :zoviet-france: declared that they could, if they wished, create the perfect pop record or the archetypal country record. Both Mark and Robin were profoundly influenced by the music of rock bands in the seventies while boldly assimilating ideas from world music in the belief that all musical sources exist to be appropriated. In the same way, over the years, they have embraced technology. This is 'anti-restictivist' music. 'We realized a long time ago that as soon as we left :zoviet-france: our cover was blown. We could no longer hide under the false mantle of anonymity.' For Reformed Faction, each album is an attempt to develop ideas. The three CDs that comprise I Am the Source of Light, I am Not a Mirror are collages, each intended to be listened to in their entirety. The contributions of various friends have been assimilated into the recordings. The East German band Scatology and the American band Not Breathing both contributed to the process. Tommy Grenas of the Los Angeles band Anubian Lights, who Mark met through Damo Suzuki, came to stay with the band and also joined in the recording sessions. The recordings took on a life of their own. Picture the backdrop: the rainy landscape of northern England, the collection of classic seventies albums from the likes of Faust and Can, and the band's preoccupation with the cultural and political legacy left by the dissolution of the eastern block countries. Reformed Faction spent time in the city of Dresden, where they met the artist Ira Tannheuser, who supplied the images used in the booklet accompanying the CD. The finishing touches were generated by Shaya, an enterprising Afghan trader and fan of Reformed Faction who trekked through the fabled Thar desert in the Sind province of southern Pakistan, and there discovered a long-forgotten depository of hand made metal boxes that had been manufactured 30 years ago in the town of Mithi. They were initially made for storing detonators but had never been used. Shaya had them embossed with the Reformed Faction logo by a local metal worker and then shipped them half-way around the world to Soleilmoon and told us to do something with them. The boxes are still partially encrusted with the sand of the Thar desert. Three CDs in screen printed slipcases, a 12-page full-color booklet featuring the work of East German artist Ira Tannheuser, a screen printed insert describing the edition, a metal badge and a sew-on cloth patch. Box made from sand-cast aluminum sides attached to a sheet metal top and base. The lid is embossed with the Reformed Faction logo."
