"Amyl Nitrate (commonly known as popper) is a chemical compound. It has a long history of safe medical use in treating angina. It's also often inhaled with the goal of enhancing sexual pleasure. Inhaling nitrates relaxes smooth muscles all over the body, including the sphincter muscles of the anus and the vagina. Listening to the original version, it is easy to understand the reason behind such a title. A dark and obsessive techno-bass in its depths. Acid, nervous loops on the surface. "Plastique De Rêve's new single on David Carretta's label Space Factory Disques follows up on 2008's fantastic release on DFA with 'It's Summer !!,' a perfect techno-pop summer hit with another great feature by vocalist Ghostape, and dives further into the realms of electro-disco, synth-pop and cosmic music. Ultra synthetic and light-hearted, yet dreamy and emotional, the three tracks each capture with authenticity the essence of electronic disco music but pay tribute to it here in a very original, playful and modern way. 'It's Summer !!' is a great follow-up to Plastique De Rêve's previous singles on DFA and Supersoul Recordings, also featuring Ghostape on vocals. This time the music goes even deeper into the worlds of synth-pop and electronic disco, with reminiscences of Vince Clarke's Yazoo, Giorgio Moroder or Kelley Polar. The sunny, laidback, 'pop radio' atmosphere, together with Ghostape's emotional build up of the deliberately simplest lyrics ever written so far, might well keep you smiling, and dancing, all summer. 'Dance On' continues in this 'early Depeche Mode' direction but adds a more romantic and retro touch, this time with Plastique himself using the vocoder's harmonic qualities to create a hypnotic and emotional atmosphere. 'Love On The Tape' is a beautiful track with just a bassline and a vocoded voice that Plastique had recorded in 1999 already, singing along to a Commodore 64 with a Korg Vocoder. It's a very personal, emotional track about love and loss, paralleled with nostalgia for discarded technological music instruments and recording formats: the Commodore 64 computer, the vocoder, the tape recorder... This recently re-worked 'rhythm version' creates a more dynamic 'cosmic disco' feel by adding subtle beats, catchy melodic synth lines and deep sweeping sounds to the original."
