Soundtracks
is the 2nd Can album, originally issued in 1970. "Malcolm Mooney passes the baton to Damo Suzuki for
Soundtracks
, a collection of film music featuring contributions from both vocalists. The dichotomy between the two singers is readily apparent: Suzuki's odd, strangulated vocals fit far more comfortably into the group's increasingly intricate and subtle sound, allowing for greater variation than that allowed by Mooney's stream-of-consciousness discourse." -- Jason Ankeny

2005 remastered edition, with expanded artwork by Can. hybrid SACD, designed to play in stereo on both CD and SACD players, as well as SACD-compatible DVD players. Reissue of the 6th Can album, originally issued in 1974. "With Suzuki departed, vocal responsibilities were now split between Karoli and Schmidt. Wisely, neither try to clone Mooney or Suzuki, instead aiming for their own low-key way around things. Musically, if things are a touch less intense on
Babaluma
, the sense of a band perfectly living in each other's musical pocket and able to react on a dime hasn't changed at all. 'Chain Reaction', the longest track on the album, shows that the combination of lengthy jam and slight relaxation actually can go together rather well." -- Ned Raggett

SPOON 9316CD
2006 remastered edition, with expanded artwork by Can. New liner notes by John Gill. Hybrid SACD, designed to play in stereo on both CD and SACD players, as well as SACD-compatible DVD players.
Delay 1968
features classic early recordings with Malcolm Mooney on vocals, recorded in Nörvenich, Germany in 1968-69, not released until 1981. Ultimately, one of the best Can albums -- infused w/ the spirit of '68, even if in somewhat primitive form, and the sonic upgrades in this Spoon remaster series are consistently desirable. "A collection of cuts featuring early vocalist Malcolm Mooney, these seven songs are among the very first Can ever recorded; while nowhere near as intricate or assured as the group's later work, the visceral energy of tracks like the deranged 'Uphill' and 'Butterfly' is undeniable." -- Jason Ankeny.

Axolotl Eyes

Format:
CD/DVD
Price:

Catalog #:
SPOON 9391CD
"Irmin Schmidt, founding member of the legendary German avant-garde rock group Can, and breakbeat pioneer, producer and Professor Of Popular Music, Kumo (aka Jono Podmore) release a brand new album, for your listening enjoyment. Schmidt & Kumo's latest album of electronic experimentalism features Kumo's shimmering grooves, subterranean bass, Theremin and violin providing the perfect foil for Schmidt's peerless and enduringly adventurous playing. Unlike their 2001 debut --
Masters Of Confusion
, largely put together by extrapolating snatches of music from Schmidt's opera
Gormenghast
--
Axolotl Eyes
is very much a studio recording. As a bonus, the studio album is accompanied by a 5.1 surround sound DVD of the sound installation
Flies, Guys, and Choirs
, first conceived for London's Barbican Centre in 2001. The work combines surreally creating images from nature with subtle, quietly forceful environmental music." The DVD is PAL format, with 112 mins video and audio.
