STH 2007
1997 solo album from the X-ecutioners' Rob Swift. Featuring a series of skratching routines featuring Roc Raider, Mista Sinister (also, both members of the X-ecutioners) & Diamond Jay, this is a deep & dense travalogue of turntablist extrapolation, conceptualizing the kaleidoscope of cut 'n' scratch sound.

"The Lootpack have been contributing to hip-hop since 1994 when they produced the single 'Mary Jane' for Tha Alkaholiks. After several more collaborations on the Liks' three albums, the Lootpack have released two singles on Stones Throw in 1998, setting the anticipation for their debut full length. With its collaborations with their Likwit Crew (The Alkaholiks, Dilated Peoples, and Defari), the Lootpack's

STARK REALITY
Title:
Now
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
STH 2058CD
"How to describe the Stark Reality's 1970 LP...It's been called 'the beat digger's holy grail.' It's been called 'overrated' (especially since copies have been selling in excess of $500 on eBay). 'Avante-garde'. 'Distorted'. 'Genius'. (Sometimes all in a row). The sounds on that uber-rare LP all depart from the sound one might expect to emerge from a late 60s jazz-funk quartet. The Stark Reality came to fame by impressing jazz legend Ahmad Jarnal with a six song demo, psyching out 'square' children's songs that famed composer Hoagy Carmichael had written in the 40s and 50s, and convincing Jamal to release 90 minutes of music on his private AJP label."

MADVILLAIN

STONES THROW
Format:

Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
STH 2065CD
"Madlib the producer and MF Doom the MC -- two of Indie Hip Hop's most celebrated and debated.
Madvillain
is their collaboration, the subject of speculation and controversy among their diverse body of fans since they announced the project a year ago. Doom has undergone many transformations since his golden-era combo KMD and his twisted, unmistakable flow has met and even match with Madlib's unique hip hop and jazz -- just ask those who have been fiendishly seeking out the 3rd generation Madvillain demos since last summer."

CHARIZMA & PEANUT BUTTER WOLF
Title:
Big Shots
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
STH 2077CD
"Hip hop sometimes comes from strange places. For instance, Charles Hicks, a.k.a. MC Charizma, from the tiny San Jose suburb of Milpitas, and DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, living 20 minutes by bus up the street. Here are two kids who grew up living, breathing, and dreaming of the unusual -- rap beats. Charizma (then 'Charlie C') was rapping at high school talent shows, and Peanut Butter Wolf (then 'Chris Cut') was secretly teaching himself DJ skills in his bedroom, and the two formed a full-time partnership in music shortly after meeting in 1990. They landed a deal with the Disney's Hollywood Basics label, home of Organized Konfusion, and for the next year followed a strict regiment of making music all day, taking breaks for pinball and apple juice, and learning the fundamentals of battling a major label over artistic integrity. As artists, Charizma and PBWoIf were still reaching new heights, but the music was soon cut short. Charizma was tragically killed in December 1993."

The Third Unheard: Connecticut Hip Hop 1979-1983
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2083CD
"Old school hip hop is suddenly getting the respect it always deserved. And by 'old school,' we mean the OLD -- those rap masterpieces that followed the Sugarhill Gang in the late 70s and early 80s on both major indie labels. Everyone knows old school hip hop comes from New York and New Jersey, but the third portion of the Northeast's Tri-State Area -- Connecticut -- offered a supply of classics of it's own beginning in 1979 and ending around '83. Some of these releases have been falsely attributed to New York City and NYC-based rappers. Many were obscured by the passage of time. None were ever properly researched."

Stevie: An Instrumental Tribute to Stevie Wonder
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2086CD
"Madlib. The Beat Conductor. Loop Digga. One-upped indie hip hop with Lootpack's
Soundpieces: Da Antidote.
Traveled to fantastic planets with alter-ego Quasimoto on the groundbreaking concept album
The Unseen
. Dug through Blue Note's vaults for
Shades of Blue
. Linked up with Detroit beat-superstar Jay Dilla for Jaylib. Most recently found himself side by side with MF Doom for
Madvillain
. His most talked about YNQ project was little more than a promotional disc, manufactured with a press run of 1500 pieces in conjunction with New York-based clothing company Triple 5 Soul. The
Stevie
album, a series of soulful Stevie Wonder covers that Madlib flipped early on in his YNQ tenure, quickly found its way to bidders willing to fork out over $100 per disc on eBay, was briefly bootlegged on vinyl, and led to the question that those lucky enough to snag a dub were forced to ask: when is this thing going to see proper release?! The short answer -- now. Madlib's Stevie Wonder tribute comes remastered and resequenced, with a bonus track and new artwork."

Title:
A Tribute To Brother Weldon
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2092CD
"Shortly after jazz great Weldon Irvine's tragic death in 2002, Madlib entered his studio under the name Monk Hughes (Yesterdays New Quintet) and composed an instrumental tribute album to his spiritual-mentor's life and music. It's only fitting -- Irvine was one of the first to give Madlib's Yesterdays New Quintet project respect as part and parcel of jazz's ever expanding legacy."

WILSON, GARY

STONES THROW
Format:

Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2095CD
"Rarely in the history of American music has such a cult developed from just one album, but Gary Wilson's 1977 proto-New Wave masterpiece
You Think You Really Know Me
was no ordinary record, sucking unprepared new listeners in like a drug and never letting go. LA's Stones Throw label, better known for its world-class new and old Hip Hop and Funk roster, has a team of long-term fans of Gary, so it is with great pride that they present you his first recordings in over a quarter of a century. The intervening years don't seem to have affected Gary's twisted, funky genius one bit, nor dulled the sheen on his perverted electro-lounge-jazz."

Format:

Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
STH 2098CD
"Koushik's haunting vocals float high above intricate beats, elevating the art form to new levels with samples from every imaginable source. Free jazz, psychedelic rock, bizarre '80s pop? You name the style and it has crept its way from Koushik's crates to his sampler. One listen to the new
Be With
EP reveals that our boy must have learned a thing or two about drums from the hip hop golden-era of the early '90s, when producers such as Large Professor, Pete Rock and Diamond D ruled. But for all the cracking drum programming, the mellow dreaminess of
Be With
owes just as much to the acid-drenched years of the 1960s. Shades of everything from the melancholy melodies of the Zombies to the cosmic textures of Sun Ra color his arrangements."

Push Comes to Shove
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2108CD
"The west coast MC called Medaphoar is known lately by the first three letters of his name: M to the E to the D. Heads have been checking for more heat from young MED for a good while -- ever since his recent appearance on Madvillain's 'Raid' (
Madvillainy
, 2004) going back to his debut on the now-classic Soundpieces by Lootpack back in '99.
Push Comes To Shove
is the official title of the album, and it's nothing but rapid-fire bangers all over it. The track list features production/vocals by Stones Throw homies Madlib and Oh No, the almighty J Dilla (Jay Dee), and? if it's all right with y'all? a little treat from platinum-plus hit-maker Just Blaze."

Title:
The Further Adventures of Lord Quas
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.50
Catalog #:
STH 2110CD
"Quasimoto is back with 27 tracks of straight boom music for his much-anticipated sophomore album
The Further Adventures of Lord Quas
. Ever since Madlib first put Quas on wax, he has remained one of Madlib's best-loved creations.
The Further Adventures of Lord Quas
finds digging for records and rolling blunts still taking up most of Quas's time and much of his verses. Consider the book on how to make hip hop thrown out the window. Quas probably smoked it."

J DILLA
Title:
Donuts
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2126CD
"With his new album,
Donuts
, J Dilla completes his transplant from Detroit to sunny L.A. It's 44 minutes of straight heat -- filled with brand new, original instrumentals straight from the mind of one of the very best producers in hip hop at the top of his game. All the hallmarks of the Dilla sound are here. His signature recipe of classic soul and modern electronic makes for pure, raw hip hop music. Without guest rappers, and without commercial compromise,
Donuts
showcases Dilla's amazing versatility like nothing he's done before. Fans will recognize that a new phase has begun, and this is the only place to hear it first. Dilla extracts beats from all kinds of sources to develop a sound that's fresher than Krispy Kreme. It's that soul heritage from Detroit City, born and raised around funk, jazz, R&B and classical. All kinds of musical styles have inspired his legendary career."

BARON ZEN
Title:
At the Mall
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2128CD
"Peanut Butter Wolf, before making his name as a DJ and producer and before founding Stones Throw Records, was programming drums for a one-man punk rock/disco army known as Baron Zen. Known, that is, to almost no one, because Baron Zen did not play shows, did not release records, rejected all forms of publicity, and above all, rejected the boundaries separating hip hop, disco, punk rock and pop. Sweet Steve is the man behind Baron Zen. His recording career as Baron Zen lasted from 1988 to 1992, the best of which is collected on this album -- his first and only. He was ahead of his time in the '80s, but the times have been threatening to catch up with him. Baron Zen today sounds like the missing link between PiL and DFA...or suburban punk rock garage bands of the '80s and the DJ culture of today...or The Dead Milkmen if they had been hip hop B-boys."

Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2133CD
...35 Hip Hop Instrumentals. "Following up his successful Beat Konducta vinyl-only releases, Madlib rounds out his first CD collection of hip hop instrumentals with
Beat Konducta Vol 1-2: Movie Scenes
. These new, original tracks have been culled from the now-legendary beat CDs which provided the basis for Madlib's 2004-2005 productions from Madvillain, Quasimoto and Jaylib.
Movie Scenes
presents a vivid hip hop soundtrack for each mood in the model of vintage 'library records' made for TV and film background music in the funky 1960s & '70s. Each of the 40 tracks has a title as well as a parenthetical mood or theme to correspond with what's unfolding on the screen. The film is for you to imagine, the score courtesy of Madlib the

MULDROW, GEORGIA ANNE
Title:
Worthnothings
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$5.50
Catalog #:
STH 2135CD
"Georgia Anne Muldrow is one of Stones Throw Records newest signings, and is the only female vocalist signed to the label. In line with the label's other multitaskers (ie. Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No and lately Koushik and Aloe Blacc), and inspired by solid '70s soul, free jazz and a bottom-heavy hip-hop thump, Georgia paints a unique musical canvas that has the underground stopping to gaze and take it all in. It's just one 22-year old woman behind such a breadth of sonic expression -- she does her own vocals, background vocals AND the beats. Georgia springs from a family of creative musicians, whose roots run deep in the '60s and '70s progressive jazz scene: her father invented instruments for Eddie Harris, and her mother performed with Pharoah Sanders. Their innovation passed to their daughter, who approaches her labyrinth of keyboards, synthesizers and various instruments with a fresh perspective every time. Her colorful, stream-of-consciousness sound got noticed early on by fellow L.A. space-hop trendsetters Sa Ra, as well as Detroit's Platinum Pied Pipers -- both of whom tapped her for collaborations."

Title:
Expressions (2012 a.u.)
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2136CD
"Dazed critics fumbled for adjectives and comparisons to describe the utterly unique vocal presence of a rapper who can't quite sing, but whose tunes are nonetheless as catchy and sincere as any contemporaries' in the R&B field. Dudley's full-length debut on Stones Throw Records,
A Lil' Light
(2003), showcased his inimitable singing style over the most psychedelic beats in the underground -- all produced by Madlib. As a vocal muse for Madlib's creations, Dudley is unmatched; he's earned first pick at Madlib's prized beat collections. Just like Madvillain or Quasimoto, the Dudley/Madlib combination is a facet unto its own -- on par with the most illustrious collaboration projects in Madlib's catalog. The dynamic sophomore effort, entitled
Expressions (2012 A.U.)
, takes an extended detour in the direction of Parliament's Mothership Connection. The funk is strong this time around -- as is the soul music that brought tears to the eyes of Dudley's and Madlib's aunts and uncles back in the golden days. Dudley continues his plaintive, introspective soul-searching -- as well as his trademark questions of the future for mankind."
Artist:
BLACC, ALOE
Title:
Shine Through
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2138CD
"SoCal native Aloe Blacc began his recording career as an MC back in 1995, when he joined up with hip-hop producer Exile to form the mainstay indie rap group, Emanon. These days, Aloe Blacc has evolved into a true Renaissance man -- dubbed 'the indie R. Kelly' by online retailer Turntable Lab. Recordings like his Latin cover of John Legend's 'Ordinary People' prove that -- not only can this multi-instrumentalist produce, rap and sing -- but he can flip it in Spanish, too. With an amazingly broad set of influences ranging widely from the acoustic guitar stylings of folk artist Cat Stevens, to the soul-stirring sounds of the Negro Spirituals, Aloe prides himself on the spectrum of his musical roots. His sound often forays into the digital R&B realm, but always grooves with a tinge of Latin and the pulse of hip-hop."

ROC 'C'
Title:
All Questions Answered
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2139CD
"With influences ranging from A Tribe Called Quest to MC Eiht, Roc aims to transcend the usual hip-hop categories. Roc rhymes as therapy, venting the demons of a background shaped by gang rivalries, poverty, jail and mortality. The result is one of Stones Throw's most street oriented albums to date. Features production by Oxnard family: Oh No, DJ Romes and Kan Kick. The diverse list of guest MCs includes: Oh No, Dudley Perkins, Pok Dogg, Glasses Malone, J Ro, Chino XL, Bizzy Bone and Aloe Blacc."

OH NO
Title:
Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2143CD
"The hip-hop world can now witness the depth of Oh No's musical vision with
Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms
, a unique concept album bridging his new-millennium beats with the baroque but funky tunes of the venerable Galt MacDermot. Known primarily as the composer of the late-'60s smash musical
Hair
, Mr. MacDermot distilled the essence of R&B rhythms and Broadway melodies into a unique and potent groove for the Age of Aquarius. After the breakthrough hits from
Hair
(still heard every day on Oldies radio everywhere), MacDermot -- backed by longtime collaborators and jazz/funk drumming legends in their own right, Bernard Purdie and Idris Muhammad -- perfected his sound throughout the following decades on his own imprint, Kilmarnock Records. MacDermot offered Oh No access to his huge (and still growing) catalog of music, resulting in
The Exodus
-- an entire album of beats derived solely from Galt MacDermot samples. Recruiting a formidable cast of rappers, including veterans like A.G. and Posdnous from De La Soul, as well as current indie powerhouses like Murs and Vast Aire, Oh No has assembled a hip-hop album that transcends generations."

Title:
Innovative Life: The Anthology 1984-1989
Label:
STONES THROW
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
STH 2192CD
"Arabian Prince's story is undeniable. His life reflects the ambition and innovation of the early West Coast hip-hop scene, from his days amongst the likes of electro-rap legends Egyptian Lover and the World Class Weckin Cru to this work with N.W.A. His biography closely parallels the progression of Southern Californian hip-hop. From Arabian's transition as an electro DJ into one of the West Coast's first hip-hop stars... in the shift from electro-rap to the gangsta-rap music that transformed the world. This anthology, a collection of his groundbreaking electro-rap work recorded between 1984 and 1989, not only compels the listener through sound, but through prose. Through Arabian Prince's music and life story, Stones Throw Records is proud to present a glimpse into an overlooked chapter in hip-hop's history." Includes two bonus tracks.
