Sunbeam is delighted to announce the debut album from Sommerset-based The Story, a duo comprising Martin Welham (long-lost leader of psych-folk legends Forest) and his son Tom Welham. Having quietly played together for several years, they recently collaborated with leading US alt-folk act Whysp on a limited edition vinyl LP, The Dawn Is Crowned (which appeared to rapturous reviews in October 2005) and have at last prepared a full-length collection of their material. Tale Spin is a delightfully melodic and nuanced collection of psych-tinged acoustic pop, written and recorded in the depths of the English countryside, and sure to appeal to fans of acts such as Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Espers as well as older names such as the Incredible String Band, COB and Vashti Bunyan.

Artist: SOUTHERN COMFORT
Title: Southern Comfort
Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5014CD
Big Walter Horton (also known as Walter "Shakey" Horton) is one of the most legendary Chicago blues harmonica players of all time, and a pioneer in the field of amplified harmonica. Recorded in the UK in 1968, and released in 1969, Southern Comfort is a superb showcase for his talents, as well as those of bassist Jerome Arnold (the Butterfield Blues Band), drummer Jessie C. Lewis (Otis Rush) and trailblazing guitarist Martin Stone (Savoy Brown and Mighty Baby). Though mostly a superb blues set, it's best-known today for the epic closing track -- one of the most mind-blowing psychedelic workouts ever recorded.

Artist: JONES, WIZZ
Title: The Legendary Me
Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5015CD
Long prayed-for reissue of this classic 1970 UK folk stunner that's a missing link both in the Wizz Jones oeuvre and in the guitar-freedom music of the prime era. The Legendary Me was Wizz Jones' second studio album, originally released by the obscure but vital Village Thing label (following his self-titled debut on United Artists). Cosmically figuring somewhere between the non-trad radical expressions of the Mike Cooper/Roy Harper axis and Clive Palmer's post-ISB journey, Jones' terrestrial position finds him alongside Davy Graham, Shirley Collins & Palmer at the dawn of '60s UK freedom. Under-recorded until the late '60s, The Legendary Me has been impossible to find since release. It fits snuggly next to his other classic, Right Now, released a year later on Columbia. If you've ever wished John Renbourn was twice as good or thought Bert Jansch was too uptight, then this is your cup of meat. Remastered the way you've come to expect from Sunbeam -- at Abbey Road from the original tapes -- this perfect product includes three killer bonus tracks (including a Leonard Cohen cover that doesn't suck and the master's take on Jansch's "Needle of Death"), liner notes, and cool vintage photos. --Kris Price

Artist: FITZ-GERALD, G.F.
Title: Mouseproof
Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5016CD
One of the most unconventional albums ever recorded, this avant-garde psychedelic suite contains elements of folk, jazz, rock and electronica, but has a sound and atmosphere all of its own. Recorded in 1970, but barely released (despite the enthusiastic support of John Peel), original copies now sell for astronomical sums. Guest performers include Judy Dyble (Fairport Convention), Rik Kenton (Roxy Music) and Geoff Leigh (Gong, Kevin Ayers, Henry Cow). This is its long-awaited debut on CD, and comes complete with comprehensive liner notes and rare photographs.

Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)

Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5017CD
As co-author of some of the world's most famous musicals, Tim Rice needs no introduction to music lovers. But, before fame and fortune beckoned, his formative years were spent learning his craft at EMI, where he rose to become assistant to legendary producer Norrie Paramor. The best of them are collected here for the first time, along with rare photographs and extensive liner notes from Tim himself, making this collection a treat for all fans of unsung '60s music.

Artist: FREE SPIRITS, THE
Title: Out of Sight and Sound
Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5018CD
Way ahead of its time, The Free Spirits' radical 1967 album Out of Sight and Sound has never previously been available on CD. Co-founded by the young and future jazz-rock guitar legend Larry Coryell, who made his recording debut here, the band was only together briefly but dazzled all who heard them (including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Velvet Underground) with their revolutionary brand of psychedelic jazz-rock. One highlight includes "Blue Water Mother," a song which employs the oft-unheard sound of two separate vocal tracks singing two entirely separate sets of lyrics. One of the first fusions of jazz and rock, this early experiment in sound will appeal to fans of straight-up heavy '60s jams as well. This package comes complete with a rare non-LP bonus track, as well as previously unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Richie Unterberger.

This self-titled LP has since become a highly sought-after collectible. Produced with the band's full co-operation, this package comes complete with a full-color booklet incorporating rare photographs and detailed liner notes, as well as featuring both sides of their two ultra-rare non-album 45s, making it the most comprehensive collection of their work ever assembled.

Artist: DAWNWIND
Title: Looking Back On the Future
Label: SUNBEAM RECORDS (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $15.50
Catalog #: SBR 5022CD
UK-based Jon Harflett and John Perkins began playing together in 1967, but their sole album, the beautifully melodic and intimate Looking Back On The Future, didn't appear until 1975. Though critically praised, it was only issued as a private pressing and was thus condemned to obscurity until its legend began to grow through collectors and bootleggers. This is its first official issue, and comes complete with rare photographs, bonus tracks and detailed liner notes by the duo, making it an essential purchase for all lovers of acid folk.

"Former bootleg and very worthy slice of later UK folk heaven, Dawnwind's lone LP has been done up real righteous by your friends at Sunbeam. A British counterpart to Spain's Book of Am, America's Trees, and Scotland's Caedmon in the splintered, post-Nam, last-gasp class of debuts that graduated the free world's folk revival into oblivion, the perfectly titled Looking Back on the Future was released to a fleeting audience in '76. Always the opening act, never the stars, the duo of Jon Harflett and John Perkins crawled up the mountain together for nearly ten years before making an LP of their very own. As the scene died, the duet recorded a sentimental, celebratory, and defiant solemnization of Greenwich Village, acid-nonviolence, Dylan's harmonica, and freedom busking that, like the best long-awaited debuts, displays striking self-discovery and fully honed vision. While the surreal opener 'Don't Look Now, Karen's Gone to the Moon' is an anachronistic spoon-June folk-psych stunner that stands as one of the select sputniks of the era, their haunting Simon & Garfunkel-style take on John Prine's 'Sam Stone' will bring you all back home. It's not clear if the master tapes survived on this one, but you can trust that Sunbeam's work is peerlessly culled from the finest depots, having filled up the product with the usual exemplary Abbey Road mastering, bonus tracks, original artwork, photos, liners, & legitimacy. Have one." -- Kris Price.
