"Philipe Cam is a star in his own field. He is among the few people that have succeeded to write hypnotic dance music without a conventional beat still conveying a thrilling, dramatic feel. Cam has developed an accurate, intense and complex formula of modulation-techno. Starting with music similar to Pan Sonic in 1996, his music turned towards a more elegant form of minimal music. He worked as a DJ in Brussels beginning of the 90s. Then chose to become a sailor and cruised the oceans. Mid of the 90ies he started to study electronic music in Brussels and began to write music for theatre, ballet and French movies. Abstract soundtracks lead to an organic form of music, which was equally influenced by modern techno as Wolfgang Voigt's Studio 1/Gas or Basic Channel/Maurizio. His demo received by the Cologne based label Traum in 1999 led to a series of three fantastic 12"s. Since then journalists have made links also to Manuel Göttsching's classical masterpiece E2-E4 referring to his low evolving modular wave scapes and strong repetitiveness. Cam's latest compilation CD Balance on Traum is a fine selection of tracks previously released as Traum 12" s. This CD contains tracks in full length, plus a video of 'Mixte' by Cologne artist Yvette Klein, who thickly textured the music with a minimal aesthetic. Cam's music corresponds heavily to the Cologne scene, where his music is appreciated and played throughout the clubs by the likes of Michael Mayer, Tobias Thomas and various other DJs as well as experimental djs from the A-musik corner."

"Chile born Miss Dinky stems from a circle of talented musicians in Santiago De Chile, including Riccardo Villalobos (Playhouse/Perlon) and Dandy Jack aka Martin Schopf. Miss Dinky aka Alejandra Iglesias moved to N.Y.C. in 1996 to stay contemporary but was very much inspired by a trip to Berlin 1995 where she met DJ Hell, Robert Görl and Stacy Pullen she soon became resident in one of New Yorks most crowded gay clubs, the 'Flamingo East'. The breakthrough came after she founded a DJ collective in N.Y.C. with three other female DJs, the 'Angels On Vinyl'. She ended up playing everywhere: The Limelight, Tunnel, The Cooler, Soundfactory, 21's, Drinkland and during the Transmat tour with Derrick May and Aril Brinkha. Her work as a DJ also included gigs with Khan, John Selway, DJ Silver as well as Adam X. Her first CD includes her ambient tracks tracks as well as her dance tracks with many previously unreleased tracks. Many of the exotic sound have collected through her DJ travels in Latin America. Her music can be described as melodic and emotional, deep and rhythmic. Influences have been Christian Vogel, Basic Channel, Carl Craig, Derrick May etc. and she certainly loves the early period of clonks and bleeps as one can feel throughout her music."

"The Japanese artist Wakisaka Akifuma belongs to the well known artists of the Japanese techno scene. He has released on Ken Ishii's label Dub Restaurant among others such as Denki Groove. Nevertheless his style varies very much and we see him now with his first release on the Cologne label Traum with beautiful analog music that is very much different from his other releases on his own label Loveburger. Music For Lazy People puts him on the list with musicians such as Biosphere and of course Philippe Cam. Wakisaka Akifuma has studied composition at the University of Tokyo and started producing music in 1989. He started with his own label Loveburger in 1995 and released four cds so far. His influences range from classic electronic-ambient-pop music such Kraftwerk and Brian Eno to Wolfgang Voigt's project Gas. Waki performs live regularly in Japanese clubs such as: Blue, Bullet, Womb, Le Deco, Marbeltron, Zazou, Humandog, Montage, Yellow, etc."

"Fairmont is the alias of Jacob Fairley and stands for his melodic techno soul side as opposed to his radical stripped down minimal techno releases on Dumb Unit, Sender, and Killer. "The newcomer Dominik Eulberg (who is not really a newcomer since he has released records since 1995) has had his big hit on Traum with 'Die Rotbuchunken vom Tegernsee' which has lead to international recognition in 2004. Very similar in style and dynamic he has created soon after his EP: Flora und Fauna that transports the same spirit alongside 7 new tracks on the double LP and 10 on the CD. Did he introduce the fusion of nature sounds with digital programming and analog techno soul on his EP, the album explicitly highlights exactly this quality to the extreme, featuring explanations in word on the cover. The unique quality is once again, the stream of music, where there is no interruption, but the breaks of intense silence and melodic cascades. You can be sure the return of techno finest qualities then is not far away, when he crashes back into the beat, quite happily, like a child. The change in the style of the music coming out on Traum in the year 2005 is reflected in this brand new Interkontinental 5 CD and 3LP. In the tradition of the annual Interkontinental series, number 5 is thoughtfully compiled by A & R head Riley Reinhold aka Triple R, and for the first time mixed in a strong and tasteful flow instead of being compiled track by track. The CD opens with a soft intro by Steve Barnes and Yvette Klein. This tune was also used for the animation short "All Things That Make Me Happy" which appears on the CD. The animation is reflected on the cover designed by Yvette Klein & Jacqueline Klein. In comparison to the previous Interkontinental releases, number 5 features the more dance-crazy side of the label, with a lot of new artists alongside the core artists: Adam Kroll who was very successful already this year with his Godzilla 12"; Jesse Somfay on the heels of new progressive techno in Canada; Process aka Steve Barnes using new technology for hi-tech ambience in techno; Zentex blends techno functionalism with unearthly strings. Last but not least Triple R produced a track together with Emanuel Geller slightly more in the old-school acid direction with Kraut-rock strings to boot. This is the second full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger, Dominik Eulberg. For four years, Eulberg has been releasing on his home label, Traum. His previous nine 12"s, his Nathan Fake and Cosmic Sandwich remixes and, of course, his debut album Flora & Fauna have made him quite a hotbed of music, which has led to international praise for his unique brand of "wild life techno." The influence of nature (bird twitters, owl hoots, flowing water, crunching leaves) and other domestic sounds has made his music easy to identify with. "Heimische gefilde" means "native habitat," and this release takes the concept of his debut a step further and at the same time is a retrospective of his major hits. Tracks like "Die Rotbauchunken vom Tegernsee" and "Björn Borkenkäfer" are included here in unreleased edits that are even stronger than the originals, and as a bonus, previously vinyl-only track "Der Alpenstrandläufer von Spiekeroog" is now included on CD for the first time. Dominik Eulberg's music is much more than just a straight bass drum enriched with samples. Heimische Gefilde fully realizes Eulberg's pledge to mend contradictory parts of a whole: every track is presented, each animal is introduced by Dominik expressed in a lyrical, almost poetic form, ala old school National Geographic narrator. The album culminates in "Stelldichein des Westerwälder Vogelchores," a track that is definitely techno, but techno that is roused to life through its protagonists: 100% birds only, with no effects or additives. The first "acoustic" techno track ever. Synth-stabbed pure dance numbers are folded into introspective floor-throbbers so that each song is a wholly different animal all its own. Traum celebrates 10 years and their 100th vinyl release with a compilation CD chock full of unreleased tracks from artists that have been with them since the beginning: Broker/Dealer, Fairmont, Gabriel Ananda, Jesse Somfay, Process, Dominik Eulberg and Thomas Brinkmann. Traum also boasts a sampling from their current artist roster: Moonbeam, Bukaddor & Fishbeck, Minilogue and Super Flu. The West Coast duo Broker/Dealer opens the CD with a taste of their self-generated melodies that are as smooth and as colorful as ice cream reflecting the summer light. Dominik Eulberg's track is reminiscent of soundtrack music from a '70s hippie movie. Bukaddor & Fishbeck are new on Traum and their track highlights their stunning ability for creating dynamics through small details. Minilogue's "Carnival" is an electronic safari, stripped-down and rhythmical, as opposed to their post-trance past. Thomas Brinkmann returns with a high-energy groove monster with delicately deep moments that will suck you in. Dominik and Riley offer a mix featuring four instruments playing the original melody in variations, creating a euphoric madness. Super Flu's track is a strong tool with a murderous bass line that will corner the dancer on the floor. This is the debut full-length release from The Netherlands' Applescal. Even after releasing only one 12" on Traum, the label is confident that this young artist embodies the new wave in indie electronic dance music -- a hunch now given some weight after Applescal was voted "Producer of the Year" in his home country. On A Slave's Commitment, he combines melodic electronics and dance tracks with grunge, creating an almost live-band sound. There is a lot of explosive youthfulness here, reflecting newer heroes and influencers like Apparat and Extrawelt, rather than Richie Hawtin or Ricardo Villalobos. The CD starts off with the beautiful track "The History Of Love," making the world feel like it's twisting in slow-motion. "Nottingham Hobbits" transports and extends a similar emotion, whereas "Ugly But Nasty" introduces dirty acid bass lines, reminiscent of his Traum 12" track, "Monster." "In The Mirror" has a bit more of a band approach, sounding like The Cure, My Bloody Valentine or Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and carrying a ghostly atmosphere with chords and feedback. "Music For Her Ears" is the ambient piece... a bit of a sad and melancholic track that somehow connects modern electronica with piano. "I Can't Stand" also works with ambience, but rocks away into a sort of a shuffle beat. "The Forms Of Abstract Life" is a masterpiece, intimately visualizing the beauty of flowers and nature. "The Red Dress" is a noise interlude -- psychedelic, alienated and strange. "Funk and FC" is a grinding acid track that starts quiet and works with a classic build-up, getting frantic and noisy. Applescal also remixed a track by the Dutch band Local Daddies, using the vocals and bass of the original and changing everything else around it, giving it a Portishead twist. The album closes with "Reeeer," a melodic and comic track that swallows everything in its path, like a colorful and happy/sad Aphex Twin.

The Netherlands' Applescal presents a hotly-anticipated second full-length album for Traum. These new tracks are cinematic, with moods ranging from uplifting and joyful to dark, melancholic and claustrophobic ones. Working on a stronger conceptual level has allowed Applescal to pull all the tricks out of the bag. "The Curle In Me" is a driving, quirky drum and bass sort of track that works with a disturbing deepness and melancholy. "A Former Curse" is a short interlude which sounds like a falling star, tumbling and spinning around its own axis until it is burned out. "Dialeague" is a heavy and mighty grinding caterpillar of a track, and "The Key Of Genes" features a superbly-composed melody with unearthly, Aphex Twin-like attachment. "MC Iron" feels like a trip through an impenetrable jungle, full of beauty and tension, while "IB OK" is full of droning noises, engine-like, heavily spinning until it gives up its life. "Roofs Of Heaven" is a piece of heavy, Detroit-touched psychedelic rock with great organ parts and feedback. "The Flop" feels like a hard and edgy piece of metal and its beat is like a smack in the face. Hard to imagine that it it turns to Krautrock after that. "Black Spirals" is almost a piece of easy listening with very sweet moments and hilarious changes of patterns and dynamics. The A-side features remute's remix of 'die trottelummen von helgoland' one of the big hits on the album being played by Sven Väth and others a lot. Remute, who is also known under Error Error on Italic, has produced a dramatic percussive track with strong cut ups. Kenny Leaven is based in Erfurt, Germany, and this is his debut release for Traum. Leaven was raised on a diet of new wave and Depeche Mode, and his sound is most comparable to that of Dominik Eulberg's. His sound is less fractured than most of the sound from Germany -- instead, it is as fat it can be: elegant and modern, hypnotic and challenging. "Feeling Spicy" starts with hammering beats and rough sequences, then suddenly breaks down and dives into a sweet melody which makes its way back into the strong hypnotic groove. This is part 1 in a 12" remix series of tracks from Dominik Eulberg's album Diorama (TRAUM 024CD). Stephan Bodzin chose the clubbiest track on the album "Teddy Tausendtod" and transformed it into an afterhour monster. Petar Dundov remixed "Der Tanz Der Gluehwuermchen" and created a piece of music based on "Chicago trax beats" fuelled with Detroit strings. Much more on the melodic side of things is Ryan Davis' mix, who transformed "Taeuschnungs-Blume" into a soothing, Rhodes-powered, lush track.

Minilogue's "Let Life Dance Thru You" reveals itself as a "safari" of live played percussion, instruments and sounds. The duo create here a biotope of sounds that interact with each other -- like a live band would do -- at times almost Arabesque-sounding, this track is full of mysterious soundscapes, like a spiritual "voodoo session" from the '70s. "Drop The Mask Of Self Protection" could be described as a soundtrack for Apocalypse Now -- haunting, hallucinatory, and evolving into deep acid.
