"What better way to start 2008 than with the huge 'Zone' by The Hacker & Eric Borgo, already licensed to Jennifer Cardini's new Kompakt compilation. The Hacker needs no introduction -- a true pioneer with album releases on his own Goodlife label (with his friends Oxia and Alex Reynaud) and with Miss Kitten on DJ Hell's Gigolo imprint. In 2001 at the dawn of electroclash, they were booked all over the world with Miss Kittin appearing as a dominant nurse and The Hacker cold as ice behind the machines and decks. Devised as an outlet for deeper, sample based experiments within house music, The Lab's first creation is a 5-track EP for the highly regarded London based imprint. As you'd expect, the undeniable Peace Division groove which has made PD one of the most respected duos in house music is in full force throughout this EP. The beat-perfect arrangements that Drake and Henry are known for are here too but there's an increased warmth throughout with the use of sparse chords, subtly used samples and gentle layering of sounds. "Eric Borgo is no stranger to Tsuba, having released one of the biggest tracks on the label, 'Another Man,' alongside fellow Frenchman, Oxia. Mopti is clearly influenced by the sound of Basic Channel and is an excursion into deep dub house with a classic feel. Oxia was executive producer on this project. "Junkyard Funk was one of the seminal house albums to come out of the UK in 2000. Masters of the deep groove Clive Henry, also resident at DC10, and Justin Drake are one of the most respected duos in house music with over 10 years experience in the business. Whilst many contemporaries have fallen by the wayside, Peace Division have remained at the forefront of underground house. Following 2007's seminal Soft Heavy EP for Crosstown Rebels, 2008 has seen them release a second Coast 2 Coast compilation for NRK and the critically acclaimed The Lab EP on Tsuba. Part 1 of Junkyard Funk Reconstructions sees Jamie Jones and Rozzo update the classics. Jamie Jones has always been heavily inspired and influenced by Peace Division so when the opportunity arose to remix the seminal 'BU4T,' he was more than a little excited. The result is his biggest remix to date. Rozzo, aka Peter Dildo and also one half of Mountain People alongside Serafin, delivers a truly awesome interpretation of 'Gotta Have You' that's sure to be one of the biggest tracks this winter.
