2001 release. "Probably the rarest and most sought-after LP in the Spanish collector's market, the first album by Gloria Van Aerssen & Carmen Santonja is at last reissued as it deserves. On the twelve songs they wrote for their debut album, originally released on Ópalo in 1971, Vainica Doble blended folk, soft rock, pop and a dose of psychedelia. The fantastic, colorful cover was designed by Ivan Zulueta, artist and film director (he was the mastermind behind the cult movies
1, 2, 3... Al escondite inglés!
and
Arrebato
), and is reproduced here in all its glory, along with extensive liner notes by Àngel Maeztu. Including 2 non-LP single tracks. All their Ópalo recordings collected in a fantastic edition. Made, as always, with love and devotion by the Wah Wah team."

MUSICA DISPERSA

Musica Dispersa
Label:
WAH WAH RECORDS (SPAIN)
Format:
LP
Price:
$26.00
Catalog #:
LPS 011LP
"Wah Wah Records proudly presents the new vinyl reissue of yet another smashing Spanish rarity. Musica Dispersa featured the talent of three of the most significant musicians from the Catalonian underground movement of the late '60s: Jaume Sisa, J.M. Brabo 'El Cachas' and Albert Batiste, who after their Miniatura project with Pau Riba were joined by young hippie girl, Selene. The album's title describes the sounds contained in the most precise way possible, but for those who need some extra lines to get into the groove, we must state that we face a masterpiece of melodic tunes that pay a certain tribute to the English folk movement of the era, as they do to early Amon Duül's freak out sound concept. Echoes of The Incredible String Band are present mainly in the guitar parts, drums are absent in all but one track (in which they are held by Josep Mª Vilaseca 'Tapi,' of Máquina & Tapiman fame) and percussion, harmonica, organ, mouth harp, piano and wordless vocals are heard all through the album, as is Selene's flute work. All in all, this is a strange, relaxing little piece of underground from Barcelona's early '70s hippie youth that has become a classic of our country's history of pop music, and that is yet again available in a 1000 copies only strictly limited edition that respects the original gatefold artwork, including the slight relief of the cover illustration. As an addition, our release comes with extensive liner notes and photographs. This is one of our best releases and we are proud of it!"

2003 release. "Crow were born in the same Minnesota garage scene that gave us The Trashmen, The Gestures or The Castaways to evolve into a rock combo that released three great LPs between 1969 and 1971 and a 'Best Of' album in 1973. But it is with Wah Wah Records'
Colors By Crow
that Crow will finally take the place they deserve in the history of rock music. This compilation features the best from all their output, including the single-only track 'Something In Your Blood' and not forgetting their hit composition 'Evil Woman,' a big classic on its own that has the honor of having been covered by Black Sabbath themselves. The Wah Wah edition is pure synergy: it gathers the best songs from Crow's recordings and the result is even better than the three LPs together! Besides, it comes in an attractive, colorful paste-up sleeve and is limited to 500 copies."

LPS 019LP
"Key duo from the Catalan folk rock scene, joint venture of Ia Clua (from Dos + Un) and Jordi Batiste (one of the leading forces of Máquina!), after the latter one's return from military service.
Un Gran Día
, the duo's first album, was recorded at the end of 1972 with the help of such outstanding musicians as Manel Joseph (ex Dos + Un, Ia's early band), Joaquín 'Max' Suñer (Vértice, Tapiman, Iceberg a.o. ) and Albert Batiste (Música Dispersa). The result is an amazing and varied musical tapestry, best heard on the record's first side, a long suite covering from orchestral folk-pop with some psych leanings ('Un Gran Día', 'Max') to straight in-your-face hard rock ('Sleeping Rock') via typical early '70s prog ('Oliba') and uncategorizable experiments which defy all known rules ('Reprise'). Sung both in Catalan and English, this album is a fine example of the craziness and experimentation achieved by the Catalan bands in the early '70s. A piece of wax which went totally unnoticed when first released in a tiny pressing back in the days (thus becoming a big ticket item in the collector's market). Strictly limited to 500 copies. High quality gatefold sleeves reproducing the original artwork from 1972's first press on Diabolo. Includes insert with liner notes by Fermí Puig. Comes with additional promotional poster and a bonus 7" EP in full color sleeve containing five amazing unreleased demo versions of some of the best tracks on the album -- do not miss it!"

"Often hailed as one the hard psych masterpieces to come out from Spain in the early '70s,
The Beginning Of The End
was the vinyl debut of Atila, a trio formed in 1973 by Eduardo Niebla (guitar), Joan Punyet (drums) and Francisco Ortega (keyboards). Originally released in 1975 by the obscure New Promotions label in a alleged tiny pressing of 100 copies the album has reached 'monster' status between die-hard collectors worldwide, sometimes reaching the 1500 euro tag. An incredible progressive tour de force, the album combined the typical classical leanings, fierce guitar leads and dark keys all over in the best European tradition of the era (think Italian prog). Another rarity which finally reaches a wider audience thanks to Wah Wah in a well presented reissue that is completed by two bonus tracks plus a 7" including two more extra tracks all taken from contemporary sessions (actually the same month as the album recordings) which show the band delving into Pink Floyd-territory circa

"The second album release by the Catalan band, Màquina!, which was to be their musical goodbye as a band, is undoubtedly the highest peak reached by a Spanish band at its time. They were offering a live recording with a superb sound, and it was presented as a double album. Original singer Jordi Batiste joined the group for the occasion to leave a recorded testimonial of how the boys sounded in their latter days. Crude unadulterated jazz rock performances under the influence of black music, jazz and funk, and bands such as Chicago, Spirit or Blood Sweat & Tears, starring a tight base of drums-bass-guitar-Hammond and with the addition of a funky brass section. The band canned some great performances of earlier stuff like 'Look Away Our Happiness' or 'Chains' plus great covers and new original material. This double album stays as a vinyl witness of what was the greatest progressive rock outfit in Spain. The Wah Wah edition includes the two tracks of the rare

"This UK exploitation classic sees finally a proper reissue thanks to Wah Wah. This studio session group -- also known as The Mohawks -- formed by Clem Clattini (drums), Roger Coulham (keyboards), Herbie Flowers (bass) and library maestro and Alan Parker on killer guitar released this obscure album on Kaleidoscope records in 1971, not unsimilar to some other gems of the era like Blue Phantom, Psycheground, The Underground Set, Traffic Pop on Studio G's Beat Group... classic psych-sploitation sounds with a nod to prog and, of course, the funky side of things: 'Custards Last Stand' and 'Feel This' are pure mod Hammond-funk in the best Mohawks tradition."

"Really amazing and obscure LP by this Spanish band led by legendary producer Manolo Diaz. A mixture of avantgarde and serious composition with pop instrumentation, this is a a really amazing LP which borders the outer-space exotica field. Describing the mystic impressions of an astronaut as he's trapped into serious trouble while orbiting... an unknown album even in Spain which will come as a big surprise to many a record collector. Another early '70s lost prog gem, another goldmine for beats and samples."

Ora
LP as it was first issued back in 1969, while record 2 is made up of previously unreleased in vinyl format top quality material by the band and will include tracks never issued before in any format that original band member James Rubinstein had in his personal archive. Twenty-five must-have songs for anyone interested in UK folk/pop/psych. It is an album of incredible beauty, recorded by some talented young artists. The Wah Wah edition will be housed in a gatefold sleeve that will respect the original artwork concept, graphically adapted to this new issue following the directions of Ora leader James Rubinstein. Belgium-based Portuguese soul brothers Tony & Waldo Lam (better know as Jess & James) join forces which American jazz man Scott Bradford and Belgian mad scientist & electronics grand daddy Arsene Souffriau for a crazy trip of groovy free-rock and soul into electronics trip in the best Pierre Henry's 'Jerks Electroniques Pour La Messe Du Temps Present,' Cecil Leuter's 'Pop Electronique,' JP Massiera's Maledictus Sound tradition... for some it may even be close to the craziness of Jimmy Haskell's 'Count Down' or The Love Machine's 'Electronic Music To Blow Your Mind.' "The fabulous singer-songwriter / pop-psych debut masterpiece by Nick Garrie-Hamilton is reissued in vinyl format for the first time ever since its very rare France-only release in 1969. A musical delicatessen by this great Russian/Scottish, French raised singer songwriter. This LP first came out in France in 1969, under the production of Eddie Vartan, who managed to embody Nick's perfect songs into an orchestration with several common points to that in other great albums from the era coming from the UK (think of Billy Nichols, Duncan Browne, Bill Fay...). Soon after the record came out, the AZ's label owner committed suicide, the label resting orphaned and thus the release being unpromoted & undistributed sank in the dust of time. One of its songs, 'Wheel Of Fortune,' was rescued back in the Strange Things Are Happening days for its inclusion on a volume of the legendary
Circus Days
compilations. The Wah Wah edition, issued under license from Nick Garrie himself, comes with two bonus tracks taken from Nick's rare pre-LP 45, issued in France in 1968. It has been master cut by Yann Dub @ DK Mastering for a high quality sound pressing that will satisfy the most exquisite audiophile."

First legit reissue of this debut album from 1970, predating their most commonly known
Saat
album from 1972. "Emtidi are best remembered nowadays for their classic album
Saat
, but prior to that release, the duo formed by Maik Hirschfeldt and Dolly Holmes had already released a marvelous LP. This superb debut album is filled with charming folk-oriented material. 6, 7 and 12 string acoustic guitars and beautiful flute arrangements surround the lovely female/male duet voices of Hirschfeldt and his Canadian partner, Holmes, making this album a pleasure for the listener, a nice piece for the collector and a source of good taste influences for the young musicians into today's new folk scene. Yes: this LP will give satisfaction not only to Kraut rock collectors, but also to all those into old folk gods like Pentangle, Vashti Bunyan, Bridget St. John, Book Of Am... plus to all those into the Devendra Banhart, Espers, Circulus... sounds! Sung in English, it was recorded in July 1970 and originally released on the Thorofon label, which issued a very short run, thus making it one of those rare items so valued by record collectors, with the addition that for this time the music lives up to the expectations of its market price value! Here at Wah Wah, we thought it was time to give this gem a proper edition as it deserves, with top quality pressing from the original master tapes. A nice chance to get this one for far less the amount an original copy changes hands for. Strictly limited edition. 1000 copies. Get it now or cry later!"

This new series of LP reissues of classic Krautrock LPs by Wah Wah is really fantastic. High quality pressings, deluxe gatefold jackets and some of our favorite albums of all time. Licensed from ZYX in Germany (and not Spalax, if you are concerned about these details; not sure that really makes them any "better"). Limited to 500 copies each worldwide, probably not long for this world. "Debut album of this band led by skilled master-guitarist Peter Bursch, which went to record this magical piece of psychedelic folk for the Pilz label in 1971. Guitars, flute, mellotron, congas, tabla, sitar & the magical voice of Jenni Schücker make the ingredients for a very special record, recorded & mixed by Dieter Dierks in his unique fashion. Full of Eastern promise, this is regarded by many as the best German folk-rock album ever! 'The ideal companion to Emtidi's

Dorothy and Mike team up with the great Dieter Dierks to produce one of the most beautiful cosmic treks of all times, where fragile femme vocals collide with a rich background of multi-tracked guitars, phased keys and trippy electronics. "Debut album by this legendary German folk outfit centered around the family core of brothers Christian and Jochen Grumbcow and including Christian's wife, Nanny, as the band's lead singer. Another sample of Dieter Dierk's talent for turning otherwise average folk albums into something else, their album for Pilz was a refined and complex work which included such remarkable guests as Bröselmaschine's Peter Bursch on sitar or Walter Westrupp on flute. A German progressive folk master opus which took hints from medieval and classical musics and reworked them into something very special and unique. Fliesbandbabys Beat Show
saw Floh De Cologne's delivering a hard slap on the face on Western Germany's capitalist society. Well-known for their humorous and satirical approach (which gained them comparisons with other freak troupes like The Fugs or The Mothers Of Invention), they deliver a freaky concoction of agit-prop satire and madness with relentless no-barriers free jamming. Political agitation meets free-rock! The band's second incarnation came to life in 1975, when Peter Bursch reformed the group together with old member Willi Kissmer and new recruit, Klaus Dapper (flute, sax, tuba). Helped by such honorable guests as Mani Neumeier and Roland Schaeffer (from Guru Guru) or Jan Fride from Kraan, their 1976 album was a solid session of progressive folk, very different than its predecessor but also with an atypically hypnotic and haunting quality. Long jams, ranging from the relaxed to the energetic, extended instrumental parts, nice flute and sax touches, sparse vocals. A totally underrated gem waiting to be rediscovered. Franz De Byl's second album, released by Thorofon in 1971, was actually his debut as a solo performer, an eccentric collection of freaky acoustic folk songs with bluesy elements and an extra satirical, political twist (not unlike Floh De Cologne). "Wah Wah is proud to announce the vinyl reissue of one of the best Hammond organ fueled LPs from the Swingin' London years! The talented organist Dave Davani and his group were a regular act at top clubs like the Flamingo or the Ricky Tick, sharing the spotlight with other top British names such as Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated, Zoot Money's Big Roll Band, Graham Bond Organization, Artwoods, Georgie Fame or even U.S. heavyweights as Jimmy McGriff. The superb
Fused!
LP, originally released by Parlophone in 1965, is a killer sample of what Davani and company delivered in the sweaty smokey nightclubs of London that year. First class Hammond-powered mod jazz and R&B, deeply rooted in the sounds of the fab Jimmy McGriff, 'Big' John Patton, Brother Jack McDuff, and Jimmy Smith soul jazz albums imported from the U.S. at the time. From the top opening track, an organ-ized version of the classic Miles Davis 'Milestones,' to the last groove of the record, this one will please everybody into swingin' soul jazz sounds. Reissued on vinyl format for the first time, you have a chance to grab yourself a copy of this goodie at a reasonable price -- but only for a while, since it has been licensed for a 1000 copies run and albums as good as this one do not last long on the shop's shelves. "From the hidden depths of the eastern Mediterranean, down in the Capadocian mystery lands, comes Bülent Ortaçgil, one of the national musical treasures of Turkey, but one that to Western ears remains unheard. Ortaçgil, or Bülent, which became his artistic name in his beginnings, during the much-loved and never forgotten '60s, made a name for himself on the same scene as Fikret Kizilok, who has now made some waves since his inclusion on Damon and Naomi's compilation
International Sad Hits
. But Bülent's music, much as it was of its time, was not at all sad, even though it also came from the heart. And what a heart. It could be said that his voice was indeed as sweet as that of the Golden Horn, and that his music united two continents as much as the Galata Bridge united two parts of Istanbul. For Bülent's music was deeply Turkish but assimilated the folk flavors of the day, British or American, but the most gentle and perfumed ones. Want names? Donovan and Nick Drake, mainly. Bülent's

"The beautiful debut album by Steve Tilston was originally released by The Village Thing in 1971. Housed in a beautiful sleeve, it contained ten wonderful songs, mostly played on just acoustic guitar (plus voice, of course), which showed the great talent of a young Tilston that must have been listening to a lot of stuff by Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, Donovan, Wizz Jones or Davy Graham. Occasionally he is also accompanied by Dave Evans (guitar & vocals), Keith Warmington (harmonica & vocal), John Turner (string bass) and Pete Finch (violin). The ten songs on the album are original compositions written by Tilston himself, and this Wah Wah LP features two extra bonus tracks from 1978, previously unreleased on vinyl format, plus an insert with the lyrics."

"The second of our reissues from The Village Thing catalog is this wonderful 1972 LP by the talented duo Ian Hunt and John Turner. Hunt & Turner got together in the summer of 1970, after having worked as some of the most in-demand session musicians of the West Country. Turner was an accomplished string bass player, while Hunt was already a big name on the Bristol scene, playing great guitar and writing songs. They moved around Bristol's Troubadour Club, which Turner had run for several years, and once the duo was arranged, they expanded their art around the UK and Europe. With this LP, they gathered a small amount of success, reaching #6 on the
Melody Maker
folk charts. More fabulous folk sounds, plenty of crystalline acoustic guitars and delicious vocals, at times reminiscent of CSN&Y and relatives. Hunt & Turner, who, besides their fab vocal duties, already play acoustic & electric guitars, electric and string bass and bongos, are occasionally augmented by John Merritt on bass guitar and Rod Matthews on percussion. "Another acid folk delicatessen from The Village Thing catalog, The Sun Also Rises was recorded by Graham Hemingway (vocals, guitar) and Anne Hemingway (vocals, dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, percussion). They were occasionally joined by John Turner (string bass, finger-picked & with a bow) and Andy Legget (who whistles on one of the songs). It features an amazing tapestry of acid folk sounds with great male/female vocal harmonies. On the sources of this record you will hear echoes of The Incredible String Band, Comus, C.O.B or Tír Na Nog, but of course delivered with the distinct personality of this Cardiff duo, very hippie-sounding with a very trippy atmosphere. It is really a delicatessen for your ears! The album was originally released in 1970, and our reissue includes one bonus track not on the original release, taken from a 1972 Village Thing sampler. Comes with beautifully reproduced artwork in a nice matte finish. Not only a top listen, but also a beautiful addition to your acid folk collection. Remember it's just 500 copies, it will go fast! 2nd pressing on purple vinyl. "Annexus Quam had actually a quite long career, having their roots in the outfit Ambition Of Music, formed back in 1967 Kamp-Lintfort (near Düsseldorf). By 1970, and paying tribute to their early name, they had incorporated a whole array of influences (most important one, the inclusion of jazz instrumentation) and brewed them in what was becoming a very personal progressive fusion of styles, best witnessed in their their debut album
Osmose
. At that time, the band had grown into a septet formed by Uwe Bick (drums, vocals, percussion), Jürgen Jonuschies (bass, vocals, percussion), Werner Hostermann (clarinet, organ, vocals, percussion), Peter Werner (guitar, vocals, percussion), Hans Kámper (trombone, Spanish guitar, vocals, percussion), Ove Volquartz (sax) and Harald Klemm (flute, vocals, percussion). Far from a typical jazz sound, they were able to integrate rock and jazz instrumentation into a unique style, which borrowed elements from the aforementioned genres but blended those into an ultimate cosmic fusion (which can recall at times the Third Ear Band, Xhol Caravan or even Ash Ra Tempel yet remaining totally their own). Actually, Annexus Quam were able to sound meditative, doomy, stoned, aggressive, exotic and lyrical in the same track without loosing any musical coherence or perspective. With their personal style that even today defies categorization (except for that big umbrella we call kraut rock),Annexus Quam had all the inventiveness and excitement of the 1969/1970 German bands.

Formed by young multi-instrumentalist Stephan Kaske in 1969, Mythos were Berlin's finest space rockers, able to swim and dive between raging space-treks a la Hawkwind and blissed-out cosmic drifts in the style of their stable-mates Ash Ra Temple or Tangerine Dream. Their legendary debut album showed them in top-form, specially in the long suite 'Encyclopaedia Terrae' were they showcase their playing abilities and unique style via the extended instrumental passages. Somewhere else in the album, Kaske surprises us with his flute playing or his characteristic vocals (a bit in the style of VdGG's Peter Hammill). "Overshadowed by their more experimental and cosmic label mates, Walpurgis made probably one of the most overlooked items of the Ohr catalogue. This quintet from Berlin formed by Ryszard Kalemba (guitar), Jerzy Sokolowski (guitar, vocals), George Früchtenicht (bass), Jan Sundermeyer (congas, flute) and Manfred Stadelmann (drums, vocals) were helped by the ubiquitous Jürgen Dollase (Wallenstein) on keyboards for the recording sessions of their one and only one album which taking place between May and June 1972 in Dieter Dierks Studio in Stommeln. Obviously inspired by the U.S. West Coast sound but also echoing the more cosmic tendencies of the Berlin scene, Walpurgis played a dreamy yet solid space-rock style which recall some of their contemporaries like Wallenstein, Ash Ra Tempel or Agitation Free whilst paying tribute to their American inspirations (Quicksilver Messenger Band, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane) at the same time. Actually, Walpurgis just made those influences more evident as the West Coast sound had a huge impact in shaping the Berlin band's sound, with many a city's guitar player in debt with John Cippollina's guitar techniques (from Ash Ra Tempel's Manuel Gotsching to Curly Curve's Alex Conti). Comprising the trio of Odysseus Artnerm, Bernd Henniger and Gerd Kraus, in 1969 recorded the groundbreaking New Atlantis LP (subtitling it 'Cosmic Music Experience') for CPM, a spaced-out concoction of free and psychedelic musics with strong folky and ethnical flavors sounding very much like a more ethnic take on free improvisation. In 1970 they become a quartet with the addition of Matthias Kniepper thus renaming themselves Limbus 4 and went to record the puzzling

A unique album that ranks amongst the most adventurous ever released by Ohr and which, to make things even better, spots another of those cool Reinhard Hippen covers designs made of doll parts (which graced the covers of the first five of the the label's albums, this being actually the second ever Ohr release). "YES! At last the glorious 1968 LP by The Magic Mixture gets the proper legit reissue. Originally released on Saga, this superb piece of psychedelic freakbeat should be in every record collection sharing section with UK psych gods like July, Skip Bifferty, Forever Amber, Five Day Week Straw People, The Open Mind and the likes. Even though according to the
The Tapestry Of Delights
book, the Saga LPs are supposed to have been recorded at a school premises rather than in a proper studio, this album has become a classic of the genre on its own, containing some killer psychedelic sounds delivered mainly by the guitar of leader Jim Thomas and his bandmate Stan Curtis' organ riffs. The line-up was completed with Jack Collins on drums and Melvyn Hacker on bass guitar. The songs are all original Magic Mixture compositions, and they are all excellent samples of what was going on in the UK when the genres who had been en vogue during the '60s (modern jazz, folk, R&B, pop...) were all put into the same cauldron in the search of a special mixture, eventually obtaining some great pop tunes played with a freakbeat edge and some early psychedelic sounds -- all pretty simple and without many gimmicks or studio trickery -- but amazingly lovely and very cool. It is one of the most sought-after Saga releases and one that commands high sums when it shows up on eBay. Wah Wah's is the first ever legit reissue, with the best sound quality and the best sleeve quality ever, considering the Saga releases were all low budget pressed on recycled vinyl!"

"Another collectable from the Saga back catalog, issued in 1970 on the Pantonic subsidiary, but originally recorded in Italy, this killer organ instro LP is reissued on vinyl for the first time. On their debut LP The Underground Set delivered a shot of groovy organ-ized go-go sounds -- the kind of sounds that wouldn't sound out of place at a late '60s European psychedelic club or a teen exploito movie, with the perfect mix of psychedelic/progressive garage attitude and library music dexterity. An album to be filed along other killers like
Blue Phantom
or
Ugly Custard
. But also the kind of sounds that would inspire later artists such as Graham Day when he formed The Prisoners. The Underground Set was also committed to record the soundtrack theme for a couple of Italian TV shows, and later recorded a second album which followed the same line but with a heavier progressive edge. Lovers of mad organs and swirling fuzz psychedelic guitars will have hours of enjoyment with the purchase of this delicatessen that has, again, been mastered from the original tapes and housed in a quality sleeve. Best quality ever plus two bonus tracks: the Saga LPs were really low-budget pressings, so they tended to be of poor quality and usually done on recycled vinyl. "Here we unearth a missing nugget! Very little is known of The 4 Instants. They do not even appear on the
Tapestry Of Delights

Undoubtedly released as a teen exploitation album in 1966 by Saga on the Society subsidiary, the LP offers a tight mod R&B instrumental sound all through it, with killer Hammond organ and sensational guitar licks. Everyone into all night mod jazz/R&B partying shall consider this LP a classic on its own from now on! Think of Graham Bond Organisation, Dave Davani Four, The Mohawks, or any of those great mod jazz/soul jazz LPs that were imported from the U.S. in the era, and you'll get a close idea of what this album sounds like. Mostly offering killer versions of hits of the day ('Watermelon Man,' 'Mashed Potatoes,' 'Monkey Time'...) there is also one top-sounding cover of the classic Ellington tune 'Caravan' and three fantastic tunes written by the band, the credits of which give us the clue of the musicians involved, drummer Clem Cattini being one of them -- thus throwing connections to other greats of the genre such as The Mohawks or Ugly Custard, and giving an idea of how TIGHT this band sounds, since Cattini (who had previously been in The Tornados and recorded under the direction of Joe Meek) was one of the more in-demand session drummers and his work can be heard in many of the number one hits of the '60s and '70s. Sensational playing in an energy-plenty recording. This obscure jewel seems to be still completely unknown even among those into the coolest of the cool, maybe due to the non too well chosen original sleeve, to which our design team is giving a twist in order to make this exceptional LP look as fab as it deserves! "Thought from the beginning as a cash-in operation when hard rock began to spread throughout the UK, this LP features a very young band (keyboardist Jon Stoppard was 16 when this LP was released in 1973) performing the sounds of the day. Equinox consisted of Mick Shedd on vocals and guitar, Sid Oldfield on bass, Jon Stoppard playing organ and Terry Waldon as the drummer. Incidentally, they are not the ones who appear on the sleeve, where they were replaced by some unknown hipsters, and knowing Boulevard and its mother label Saga, it was probably a stock photo rather than a proper session paid for the occasion. The album sounds move through the early UK hard rock paths opened by bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin, and although it must be said that our youngsters can't match the playing skills of the bands they mirrored in, it's justice to state
Hard Rock
as a more than decent effort, and a true rarity even for the connoisseurs of the genre. Ritualistic folk-rock, pastoral hippie songs, stoned jams, Eastern flavors, mystical passages and heavy hypnotic riffing which are in fact very different from the early Amon Düül epic freaked-out improvisations (

These were in fact archival recordings done by a different incarnation of Amon Duul, one that combined members of both factions into a floating line up welcoming many a guest, and which were released by R.U. Kaiser without the musicians knowledge or authorization, most likely in order to catch up with Amon Düül II rising popularity. "Ton Vlasman recorded this amazing piece of acid Euro folk back in 1970, making it sound like an outer space freaked out Bob Dylan with the help of Frans Schoonen (organ, flute and harmonica) and Leo van Vugt (chincha tumba and tambourine). The seven original compositions are stunning, drug inspired psychedelic pieces of acid folk that mix Dylan with Indian ragas and even add some Pink Floyd overtones, yet from an acoustic rather than electric point of view. And the album contains also a very cool version of The Velvet Underground's 'Pale Blue Eyes.' If you ever wondered how Dylan would have sounded covering The V.U., here's a close example! The album, originally released on the small Flame label from Amsterdam, sold poorly back in the seventies -- thus becoming a collector's piece when it was rediscovered in the eighties. Since then it has been gathering new fans that pay small fortunes for a copy, no reissue has been available until now that Wah Wah offers 500 copies in a lavish edition that will probably sell out soon, so grab your copy before it's too late! The beautiful cover art and full color poster insert with the lyrics are the work of Leendert Le Duc, and both are here faithfully reproduced as they deserve. The Wah Wah reissue also features an extra insert with a text by reputed Dutch collector Jean Jöbses and a couple of rare unseen period photos courtesy of the Frans Schoonen and Leo van Vugt archives. Housed in a plain blue sleeve with the title stamped on front, 500 copies were pressed, some to be sent to record companies with the hope of getting a proper contract and others to be sold at gigs and a few of them at local Maryland shops. Needles to say they were quickly deleted and the record is nowadays a much sought after treasure among collectors of the hard rock genre. This time we move over to France to re-discover the beginnings of one of the most adventurous, influential and innovative French bands of the seventies: Heldon. Centered around guitarist Richard Pinhas and featuring a floating cast of regular collaborators (Didier Batard, François Auger, Patrick Gauthier, Alain Renaud, Georges Grunblatt; Coco Roussel amongst others), Heldon will marry Pinhas' personal obsessions of modern philosophy (Deleuze, Guattari), science-fiction (Norman Spinrad, Philip K.Dick), progressive rock (King Crimson, Fripp & Eno), American minimalism (Terry Riley, Steve Reich) and electronic music into a diverse musical cocktail that goes from the violent to the relaxed, but always retaining a dark and mysterious vibe. Often linked by critics and listeners to the experimental German bands of the era (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel..), Heldon will release six crucial albums before being closed down by Pinhas in the late '70s. Since then, Pinhas has developed a long solo career that lives up to this day, releasing several albums and collaborations (Pascal Comelade, John Livengood, Maurice Dantec), including with Japanese noise king Merzbow. Dedicated to Robert Wyatt, Heldon's debut contained a puzzling collection of tracks that serve as a perfect introduction to Pinhas' universe: science-fiction, philosophy and musical experimentation collide in a harsh lo-fi tapestry of sounds dominated by Pinhas' 1954 Gibson Les Paul guitar and AKS synth. Not unlike some contemporary German bands, Heldon manages to take rock n' roll's language to a new experimental stage. Convulsive and evocative soundscapes recommended to all lovers of innovative and ground-breaking music. Strictly limited to 500 copies. "Formed in 1970 in Munich, Between was an international band devoted to explore the spaces existing between (hence the name) disparate musical currents: from ancient music to avant garde from Western classical to Eastern musics, from medieval to pop music in a fresh approach that perfectly fitted the experimentation dominating the early '70s German music scene. Whereas many of their contemporaries favoured the introduction of electronic elements, Between relied mostly on purely acoustic sounds, albeit so distorted they would pass as electronic. Roberto Detree's self-made motocello was a constant source of other-wordly sonorities which permeated many of the band's compositions. Add to this Peter-Michael Hamel's Indian-influenced systemic organ minimalism and Cotch Black's hypnotical percussion and you'll get Between's sound in a nut-shell. A mystical vision not removed from that of their contemporaries Popol Vuh that predated much of the new-age, meditation and world-music fusions that would blossom in the '80s. Originally released by Vertigo in 1973 and housed in a colourful psychedelic sleeve by Guntram Holdgrün, this is often regarded as Between's most exotic and beautiful opus. A huge, majestic droning masterpiece with oriental nuances that might recall Popol Vuh, Fripp & Eno or Taj Mahal Travellers. "Om -- led by superb Catalan guitarist Jordi 'Toti' Soler after his previous band Pic-Nic split -- were one of the most interesting outfits to ever come out from Barcelona. Starting in 1968, their first recordings were done as a backing group for other artists like folk-singer Maria del Mar Bonet or American hippie Joe Skladzien, but most notably Pau Riba whom they backed on his debut LP, the legendary
Dioptria
, one of the finest pieces of European psych ever. During all their early work, the band benefited from the organ playing of one of the most talented Catalan pianists, Jordi Sabatés (of Ocells del més enllà fame) as well as the musical talents of two English brothers: drummer Peter Hodgkinson and his brother Tim on sax and keys (this is, of course, the same Tim Hodgkinson who founded Henry Cow, together with Fred Frith). By the time they released their LP on Edigsa in 1971, Om was already an experienced band, with important studio work on their back and countless gigs, having backed American blues-man Taj Mahal in his Madrid 1969 concerts. One particularity of Om was that, rather than having an established line-up, they worked as a musical concept where it was not so important the individuals playing as it was the resulting sound. Their only LP shows how, through the works of Miles Davies, Gary Burton and John McLaughlin, they had developed their sound from its original psych/folk-rock beginnings to an intensely psychedelic jazz rock fusion. A classic album that is hardly known outside Spain and ranks amongst the best of the era, sharing shoulders with similar underground European experiments by Min Bul, Colhemec Ensemble, Xhol, Dharma Quintet, Sunbirds, Full Moon Ensemble or the more progressive output of the British jazz of the era: John Surman's Trio, Nucleus or Michael Gibbs. "At the dawn of the seventies, Barcelona's underground scene veered towards a jazz-oriented fusion sound with echoes of Gary Burton, Miles Davis and John McLaughlin. Two bands were at the forefront of this movement: Om and Jarka. The latter being the brainchild of Jordi Sabatés, one of the most talented pianists/keyboardists in the Catalan scene. A generation younger than the late great Tete Montoliu, with whom he also recorded, he found fame on the teenage pop charts of the late sixties with the outfit Pic-Nic, where he joined forces with Toti Soler and Doro Montaberry. After the split of Pic-Nic, he collaborated Hammond organ in Om, when the band was acting as a backing group on the recordings of the top Catalan artists, most notably Pau Riba whom they backed in his masterpiece debut LP
Dioptria
. In 1971, Sabatés started his own band, together with bassist Alfonso de Lucas and drummer Pedro Van Eeckout (ex Pan Y Regaliz). This was the line-up that went to record their debut LP,
Ortodòxia
, on the famed Estudis Gema in March 1971. Housed in a wonderful black & white sleeve courtesy of Guillem Paris (leading force behind Pan Y Regaliz), the record was a solid slice of psychedelic jazz-rock and featured contributions from some of the best musicians from the Barcelona scene: Toti Soler, J. Albert Amargós, Doro Montaberry and Ricard Sabatés. Hardly known outside Spain, this is a classic album that ranks amongst the best from the European underground of early 1970s. Jordi Sabatés has been one of the most prolific artists from Catalunya and his solo carrier after Jarka has gained him a wide reputation amongst collectors, mainly thanks to his 1975 LP

"Wah Wah brings you more essential Krautrock sounds, this time focusing on the pioneering innovative fusions born out in Munich in the early '70s which helped to bridge the gap between East & West. We're proud to offer the first four albums by one of the longest running bands in the history of German rock: Embryo. Formed around the core of jazz vibrafonist Christian Burchard and drummer Dieter Serfas, the band started their career in Munich in 1969. 40 years later, more than 300 musicians have passed thru' their ranks, from their colleagues of Amon Duül II (Lother Meid, Chris Karrer, Jimmy Jackson), Xhol (Hansi Fischer), Between (Roberto Detree, Peter Hamel) to renowned jazzmen (Charlie Mariano, Mal Waldron) or countless musicians from around the world (Yoruba Dun Dun Orchester, Okay Temiz & Oriental Wind, Karnataka College Of Percussion, Mahmoud Gania, Xizhi Nie), making Embryo an ever-changing but always interesting collective of musicians. This is where it all began. Originally released by Ohr in 1970, Embryo's legendary debut was an inventive piece of progressive jazz-rock spiced-up with free moves and soaked in a late '60s psychedelic atmosphere. The original blueprint which gave birth to the jazzier-end of Krautrock (Xhol, Kollektiv, Thirsty Moon, Kraan...). An absolutely must-have for any Krautrock buff and one of the best Ohr albums! With John Kelly (Ten Years After), Edgar Hofmann, Christian Burchard, Ralph Fischer plus guests Bettsy Alleh (voice), Roberto Detree (motocello), Holger Trülsch (bongo)." Gatefold sleeve.

"When the bunch of filmmakers known as The Pattern Group (Roland Moreau, Georges Perdriaud and Jean Talansier) did
Libra
, their second movie, in 1973 they thought it would be a good idea to use bits from Pink Floyd's
Ummagumma
and
Atom Heart Mother
to create its soundtrack. The movie, a 90-minute film with no dialogue, depicts the story of four youngsters living in communion with nature, an idyllic life that is drastically changed when a U.S. satellite crashes in the area and attracts the attention of journalists and TV crews that come to destroy the peace of the place. Obviously, the Pink Floyd bits had been used without permission, and The Pattern Group saw they needed an original soundtrack if they wanted the film released without legal trouble. They approached Jean-Michel Jarre, who declined the invitation to create the new soundtrack, but suggested instead Philippe Besombes. Besombes was a sound explorer who walked similar paths as other avant gardist young musicians from his generation such as Richard Pinhas (Heldon), Paul Putti (Pôle), Jean Louis Rizet or Jean-Michel Jarre himself (way before he became the famed wizard of commercial synth music as we know him today). Besombes was requested to produce a soundtrack 'in the style' of those Pink Floyd tracks used. However he came up with that and more. Always aiming to find new ways of musical expression, he produced music that fitted perfectly in what the filmmakers needed but which was totally of his own. Surrounded by a cast of friends, he locked himself in the basement of his girlfriend's father (who even ended up providing the financial funds for the project to reach an end!) and taped the amazing sounds that form the
Libra
soundtrack, a landmark in French electronic tripping music. The soundtrack was recorded in 1974, and it was released as a vinyl LP on the Tapioca label in 1975. It has since become a highly sought-after LP among collectors of electronic music worldwide, and gets its first vinyl reissue on Wah Wah in a deluxe edition that features a lavish 12" sized, six-page booklet with plenty of photographs from the era and information on the making of
Libra
in texts written by Philippe Besombes himself and Raul G. Pratginestós."

"There are records that come from the soul. No matter how primitive may be the recording techniques the musician has access to, the soul gets its way to the heart and mind of the listener.
Samtvogel
is one of those records. Günter Schickert recorded that amazing piece of human greatness in 1974, using the media he had at the time, putting his brain at work to find the best way of taping everything he had to say.
'When I was recording
Samtvogel
in 1974 I had only 2 Taperecorders. I played one track and while listening I added the second one. And so on. Four times. When I mixed all together I borrowed a 3rd taperecorder. And still added the last track to the master. I had a small mixer with 2 stereo and 1 mono but it was possible to pan tracks. No equalization. It all came out of my still living G2000 Dynacord guitar amplifier, of course valve, with no master, even the voice recorded through it. If I made a mistake in 1 track I had to repeat it from the beginning. And if while mixing I was not fast enough in changing the tape I had to start again. So it took me more than 3 months to get ready.'
Thanks to these three months of work, between June and September of 1974,
Samtvogel
was privately issued that same year. It would later be issued on the Brain label, with a small change in the artwork -- titles added to the front cover, which weren't on the original private pressing. Brain also reissued it on the label's
Rock On Brain
LP series, this time with a completely different sleeve. The album contained two tracks on side one and just one on side two, and its sound has often been compared to the most explorative works of Syd Barret -- however it must be pointed out that Schickert did not need any mind spreading substances to allow his sounds to float out of his mind & soul, they just came out in the most natural way. It will also appeal to fans of the echoed atmospheric guitar work of other Krautrock innovators such as Ash Ra Temple, Manuel Götsching or A.R. & The Machines, and some may find on the vocal passages certain resemblances to Damo Suzuki on Can's
Tago Mago
era. The Wah Wah reissue is limited to 500 vinyl LP copies only, housed in a quality sleeve that reproduces that of the original 1974 private pressing and featuring a 4 page insert with liners and photos, sound remastered at Eastside mastering Berlin. Get this bird now, before it flies away!"

Piece Of Mind
is a work of 'exotic psychedelic free-jazz-meets-rock, East-meets-West, progressive and smoky moment in late Twentieth Century music history'. Add to that a spice of jazzy brassed R&B and a touch of minor-key popsike sensitivity and you get an accurate description of the sounds contained in Roger Bunn's astonishing 1969 LP, originally released in the UK on the Major Minor budget label, but issued in some European countries (Ohr label in Germany or Phillips in Holland) in a beautiful gatefold cover that is the one we choose for our reissue. When the LP was released in 1969, Roger Bunn was already a veteran British musician that had gained an astonishing CV since he began playing in the professional circuit. He spent the sixties moving through several outfits playing skiffle, jazz, beat, R&B, soul... whatever. As The Beatles did, he spent some of his forming time in Germany, playing with British formations there. A versatile musician on several instruments, he became a master of double bass. After the
Piece Of Mind
days he joined Pete Brown's Piblotko!, played with members of Soft Machine, worked with Ornette Coleman, saw one of his songs recorded (though never officially released) by a major rock star like David Bowie and even became a founding member of Roxy Music for a short period in 1970-1971, among so many other things. An album that should be an essential addition to any collection that misses it, reissued in full colour gatefold sleeve, quality vinyl pressing and an insert with liner notes, with sound remastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering in a strictly limited edition of ONLY 500 COPIES, made in loving memory of this great musician who passed away in 2005, that we expect to sell like hot bread. Musik Für Alle
album, one of the rarest private pressings in the Krautrock scene. In 1971 Paul and Limpe Fuchs loaded their instruments on an old tractor and spent six months touring through Germany at 20 km/h. When the summer came, they stopped in front of Willy Neubauer's recording studio in Düsseldorf and there they taped a music memory of the tour. Two long pieces, 17 minute long improvisations titled 'N Da Da Uum Da' and 'Traktor Go Go Go', were to be privately released as an LP on their own Altepfarhof label. By some, these two tracks 'can surely be considered as one of the best psychedelic experiences ever created, due to the intensity of the recording.' On their performance the group produced many wonderful and inspired sounds, many of them coming from Paul Fuch's self-built instruments, and counted with the post-production collaboration of Neubauer's Echolette Ringmodulater. The Wah Wah reissue has been properly licensed from Limpe Fuchs herself, reproduces the original cover art and features an insert with photos."

It is ironic that a UK band can be so influenced by those US bands that were most highly under the influence of British popsike! Think of Harper's Bizarre, The Association, The Millennium or Eternity's Children even higher on tea! A surprisingly good production for a Saga pop/psych LP, the album is built up of excellent cover versions of some greats of the genre, paying tribute to the likes of The Left Banke ('Walk Away Reneé'), Simon & Garfunkel / Harper's Bizarre ('Feelin' Groovy') or even Buffalo Springfield ('Go And Say Goodbye') and also of some good originals in the same vein. It is certainly an underrated period piece that deserves a wider recognition, a great sounding album of orchestrated (and non orchestrated) pop sounds. Reissued in vinyl for the first time since its 1969 debut on the Metronome label, this is a basic record to showcase the rich mixture of different styles that would make the '70s German music scene so unique and appealing. The Kühn Brothers, Rolf and Joachim, were at first reluctant to the reissue of this amazing LP. They are highly trained musicians with a huge experience and a big sense of innovation and they felt they have many works which are much better than this one, which undoubtedly they do have since they started being really young and are still at it nowadays, but here at Wah Wah we do feel The Mad Rockers album is a landmark in krautrock story, since it anticipates the path that would be travelled by so many legendary krautsters of the seventies. Everything is there, the adventurous mixture of styles so diverse as psychedelic rock, jazz, funk... You name it, you find it. Plenty of excellent breaks, experimental in the quest for new sounds, with instruments run through distortion effects, the musicians involved are all key figures in the development of modern European of its era. You have Volker Kriegel, who besides his own solo recordings shall also be remembered for his great contributions to Dave Pike Set's classic albums or his work with Klaus Doldinger. There is Stu Martin, drummer also on other interesting projects like The Free Pop Experimental Concept also reissued on Wah Wah. "Bernard Ilous came from a music lovers family, his parents were into jazz and classical music and the young Ilous inherited that sensitivity to the point of teaching himself to play guitar and piano. He discovered R&R and started doing covers of The Beatles and Bob Dylan, but he soon showed skills to write his own compositions. He showed his work to music publisher Gerard Tavernier who signed him to his company and thus some of Ilous songs appeared on LPs by Francoise Hardy, Eric Charden, Johnny Hallyday, Dick Rivers, a.o. In 1969 his friend Claude Putterflam left his job at
Vogue
to create Flamophone records and he produced a single for Ilous, who was willing to release his own songs by himself. Very soon Ilous joined forces with Patrice Decuyper with whom he would record the amazing LP on offer here. Issued also on Flamophone in July 1971, its blend of folk & pop brings to mind echoes of The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young or Joni Mitchell. The sound on the LP is amazing, they took one whole year to produce it, as they were using free studio hours now and then to stay into a budget, and they played most of the guitars and keyboards and were helped by friends from Le Systeme Crapoutchik on other instruments. The production is excellent and the compositions are amazing, probably one of the most impressive French-sung LPs of all time, and a must for lovers of 60s and 70s perfectly arranged & produced, well crafted works. It is reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release, mastered from the original tapes and featuring a bonus 7" containing the two songs from their 1972 non-LP single plus an insert with liner notes. "Ophiucus released their debut LP in 1972. It is one of the masterpieces of French psychedelic/progressive/folk music, and members of the band included Jean-Pierre Pouret -who had recorded with Sylvie Vartan, Antoine and Herbert Leonard a.o.; brothers Alain and Bernard Labacci (a.k.a. Tom & Jerry - they even supported Jimi Hendrix on a TV appearance) and Michel Bonnecarrere, who had founded the band Zoo. The sound production is amazing, as it used to be with French albums of that era, basing its strength on acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies, but not refusing to add subtle layers of electric arrangements, even featuring a couple of totally electric Hendrix-influenced songs ('Djarbouka' should become a classic among those dee-jaying at heavy psych parties from now on!). And the band's performance is top level! This amazing album was even planned for an international release and looking for that they even produced a version of it with English lyrics (which can be found on the bonus tracks of the currently available CD release by Lion Productions), but we are sticking to the original release, with the original French-sung versions of the songs, and respecting the beautiful original artwork. It is reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release, mastered from the original tapes and featuring an insert with liner notes. In a limited edition of only 500 copies."

"Out of the mysterious mind of Andrea Centazzo came Elektriktus. Originally released on the PDU label, the LP
Electronic Mind Waves
offers a collection of eight synth-fueled songs that sound very close to what kraut/cosmische heads were doing at the time, think of Conrad Schnitzler, Deuter or Cosmic Jokers, and also other European experimentalists like Richard Pinhas' Heldon, Spacecraft, Didier Bocquet, Seesselberg, F.G. Experimental Laboratory, Roberto Cacciapaglia or Hydrus. Along with Cacciapaglia and Hydrus, Elektriktus shows the most adventurous experimental sounds under a kraut/cosmische music influence to ever come out of Italy. Centazzo was already a highly experienced musician when he produced this LP in his home studio in 1976. He had been the drummer on Giorgio Gasslini's Quartet, with whom he also recorded several LPs, and also on his own jazz band Ictus (actually the name Elektriktus came out of melting his electronic experiments with his former band's name). He's actually one of the key names from the Italian improv/free-jazz scene and the driving force behind the ICTUS label. Strongly recommended to fans of minimal electronic music, kosmische sounds and ambient soundscapes. The Wah Wah reissue comes in an exact repro of its original sleeve and features an insert with information and photos. Strictly limited to only 500 copies."

"The origins of Ame Son go back to the mid-sixties, when Bernard Lavialle (guitar), Bernard Stisi (guitar, vocals), Patrick Fontaine (bass) and Marc Blanc (drums) formed Les Primitivs circa 1965. They took the Parisian stages with a Yardbirds/Pretty Things inspired wild R&B set, and they kept active until Stisi left in 1967. At that point they changed their name to Expression, and with a more experimental approach they took their newly find free rock sound a la Soft Machine to night clubs and also to exhibitions of modern art. It was around that time that Marc Blanc met Australian ex-patriate Daevid Allen, who had been the guitarist with the Soft Machine until he hadn't been allowed to return to the UK after some south of France gigs of the band. Allen settled in Paris where he would form Gong, but before that he was to be joined by Blanc and Fontaine in his new project Banana Moon. After the Banana Moon period Lavialle, Fontaine, Blanc and flutist Francois Garrel regrouped under the name of Ame Son and were featured with great acclaim on some of the most important festivals of the era. The BYG label signed them and in 1970 they recorded their now legendary LP. The album was conceived pretty quickly and it has a spontaneous, energetic psychedelic/free rock feel with a pretty psychedelic prog sound that drinks from the same springs as bands such as Gong, the Soft Machine, the Pink Floyd or Guru Guru. Ame Son were one of the earliest French rock bands to go beyond the conventional rock and roll of the time, and

"After our acclaimed reissues of the previous three LPs by Richard Pinhas' project Heldon, here is their fourth LP originally issued on Disjuncta/Urus in 1976.
Agneta Nilsson
is an interesting step in Heldon's development: it gives a twist to their classic sound, which was mainly built around Pinhas' Fripp-esque guitar work and ambient synth experiments to begin to explore a more rhythmic territory. Drums and bass take more presence here, offering a 'rockier' feel, but somehow retaining the mysterious ambience of its predecessors, while adding an extra touch of sinister aggressiveness. Featuring among others Magma's keyboardist, Patrick Gauthier, it starts pretty much in the same ambient, spacey, minimalist electronic mood of the previous Heldon releases, but as the development of the main title 'Perspective' goes ahead the move towards the more guitar and drums sound of the next to come Heldon sound is evident. Agneta Nilsson's sound has been described somewhere as 'a more sinister Tangerine Dream mixed with a more jammy King Crimson. Our reissue comes housed in a faithful reproduction of the original sleeve. It is made in a strictly limited edition of only 500 copies."

. Cacciapaglia self-produced the album in Milan for the Cosmic Couriers label, and it certainly brings echoes of some cosmiche kraut experiments like those of Popol Vuh, Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream, yet retaining a unique personality of its own. "Through Tim Blake, Gong's synth player at the time (one of Branson's first artists), Cyrille Verdeaux signs for Virgin in 1974. That same year
Clearlight Symphony
is recorded (clearlight stands for a type of LSD). For its recording sessions Cyrille uses two different line-ups, each in charge of each of the two parts of the work. On one side there's ex Babylone members Christian Boule, Lard Free's Gilbert Artman and bassman Martin Isaacs. They record along with Verdeaux on Virgin's Manor studio. The other side will be canned at Kaleidophon studios, ran by White Noise's David Vorhaus, where Cyrille is joined by Gong members Tim Blake, Steve Hillage and Didier Malherbe. Verdeaux's original idea was to feature the Manor studio recordings on side A, but thinking heads at Virgin thought better to flip sides to make more profit of Gong's commercial success. A curious decision, since you normally don't promote an LP with the same strategy you would use for a single!
Clearlight Symphony
was released in 1975 with small echo in press and public, although it has nowadays reached a cult status among followers of the symphonic -- cosmic -- progressive genres. In what refers to its musical content,
Clearlight Symphony
is a completely opposed concept to that of the other project in which Verdeaux was involved at the time: the collective album
Delired Chameleon Family
(also reissued recently on Wah Wah Records), a brilliant psychedelic dive into the French underground of the seventies.
Clearlight Symphony
, instead, is a much more author-controled work, where all the musicians adapt themselves to Verdeaux's circular, systematic composition. The alleged and collected improvisations, dissonances and atonalities (superb Boule), the rhythmic tension of Artman's enigmatic, Heldonian drumming, Blake's environmental VCS3 modulations, Hillage's content cosmicism, Verdeaux's crescendos and counterpoints -- plus echoes of Debussy, Terry Riley, Soft Machine, Magma, and why not, the aforementioned
Tubular Bells
. In short, a work of honesty, an album of its time."

"'Recorded in 1968 and issued as a very limited run private pressing this psychedelic raga freak-out is the brainchild of multi disciplinar artist Loren Standlee plus his partner Ziska with the cooperation of Daevid Allen and Gilli Smith in what was an early incarnation of Gong. Loren and Ziska had been involved with the crowd of avantgardist free thinkers that settled in Formentera in the sixties, and back home in N.Y. they had also been connected to experimentalists such as Angus Maclise, Marian Zazeela, Tony Conrad, Henry Flynt, Pandit Pran Nath, a.o. This bizarre selection of sounds was the brainchild of Loren Standlee and Ziska and features a very early Gong incarnation. Loren Standlee and Ziska were among the 'Formentera' (small Island near Ibiza, Spain) visionary poets, musicians and psychedelic 'researchers' in the early sixties. In Paris, they began hand-painting silk and designing clothes for many of the rock luminaries of the time, among them The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix, as well as haute couture designers in Paris and London. They met Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth at a poetry reading where Loren was playing Alto Flute and Ziska was creating vocal sounds to intermix with the flute. They began playing together as a group utilizing Daevid's Italian echo chambers and soon they had a two-night-a-week gig playing at the Vielle Grille, an avant guard club in Paris where you might hear Ornette Coleman playing upstairs or see Yoko Ono performing in a sack on stage. Two of the tracks on the bonus LP, feature the line-up of Loren, Ziska and Raj Samyana, which is basically The Universal Mutant Repertory Company minus Angus Maclise and his wife Hetty. An original copy would cost you a small fortune (raising over 4 digits!), but here's at last an accurate vinyl reissue that comes complete with liner notes plus an amazing poster of one of Loren Standlee's psychedelic collages plus an extra LP with previously unreleased studio material. Drummer Heinz Von Moisy leads Irisation, an incredible quintet formed Carlo Domeniconi (acoustic guitar), Manfred Burzlaff (vibraphon), Dieter Gützkow (bass), Ulrich Moritz (percussion) and Von Moisy himself performing six self-penned original numbers (either by Domeniconi or Burlaff) that cross a wide selection of moods and atmospheres; from the free and fragile delicacy of 'Nil,' which builds from silence to reach the most inspired climax, to the sunny guitar licks of 'Samba Do Contrabandista' via the cinematic 'La Carretera' or the irresistibly hypnotic 'Mirage,' let's not forget the Eastern-flavored track-title 'Las Plantas.' He entered Gema Studios with some of the most reputed musicians of the genre to record

With the basic tracks covering some of the most successful artists of the genre like Peret or Los Amaya y su Combo Gitano laid in Gema 1 studio he finished the tapes at Gema 2 with the help of a Hammond X-77 that he used to produce layers of cool organ sounds. The resulting recordings have been labelled as 'The Jackie Mitoo of Catalan Rumba!' or sort of 'Jimmt Smith if surrendered by gypsies!' Cunill's rumba benefited of this great musician's high experience in all sorts of Latin sounds, he brought from Latin American & Caribbean shores a rhythm cadence that was then uncommon in Catalan rumba and that makes

"First ever vinyl reissue of this 1972 masterpiece by another of the big names in UK jazz. Neil Ardley was offered the leadership of the seminal New Jazz Orchestra in 1964. Under his direction the Orchestra moved though different styles and changes of personnel, bringing in musicians such as Mike Gibbs (trombone), Harry Beckett and Henry Lowther (trumpets), and even Jack Bruce (bass). Some of them also contributed with the writing of original compositions, making the NJO the root from which the UK's '70s jazz scene was to blossom. By 1972 the NJO was already defunct, but his legacy remained in the works of its members. Ardley's
A Symphony of Amaranths
is a perfect example of what was boiling in the UK jazz scene. It was Ardley's tribute to his idols Duke Ellington and Gil Evans, and featured the skills of some great musicians of the scene including Don Rendell, Stan Tracey, Henry Lowther, Harry Beckett, Jeff Clyne, and Jon Hiseman. Side B is inspired by the words of Edward Lear, W. B. Yeats, James Joyce, and Lewis Carroll. Features, among other highlights, Ivor Cutler's narration of 'The Dong with a Luminous Nose' and Norma Winstone's vocals on 'Will You Walk a Little Faster.'"

"Their debut album, originally released on Basf in 1974, is one of the crown jewels of Spanish hard rock, and changes hands for a small fortune among collectors all over the world. This LP really rocks. It's high energy hard rock that follows the line marked by the big organ outfits of the era: Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster, Bram Stoker, Megaton, a.o. It has also a deep classic prog sound root, which reaches the top on 'Un Señor Llamado Fernández De Córdoba'. Now it gets the deserved well-done CD treatment at last, with great remastered sound, nice booklet AND YES!!!! up to 30 minutes of images with a concert of the group and an interview, all circa 1974-1975. An incredible document available for the first time."

"
Intención
, the sensational second LP recorded by Atila, has never fetched the high amounts their debut album
The Beginning of the End
does exchange hands for in the collectors' market, but it is still a mega-rare LP hardly seen below the 400 euros tag, and is considered by many to be better than their previous output. At the time of recording this album, the band was already considered one of the top stage acts from Spain, which led to their signing for the BASF label, where they had access to a better production, which not only resulted in a better sound but also in a much more visually attractive full color gatefold sleeve, which the Wah Wah reissue will reproduce to perfection and outgrade to a gorgeous 16-page booklet full of info on the band. Originally issued in 1976,
Intención
is the perfect follow-up to
The Beginning of the End
, with Atila offering further pieces led by the strong guitar licks of Eduardo Niebla, Benet Nogué's organ & Moog, and Joan Punyet's drums melting in top progressive freakouts, plus the addition of wordless vocal parts and even some Catalan sung parts, besides adding a symphonic edge to the general sound. Side A offers three killer tracks in that vein, while the B-side is a new recording of the bands' signature theme 'El Principio Del Fin,' with updated overtones, Moog passages and a much better recorded sound than the one appearing on their debut LP. In addition to the original
Intención
LP this CD edition will feature one bonus track recorded back in 1999, the year of the band's first comeback after they disbanded in the late '70s."

WCD 009CD
"Probably the rarest and most sought after LP in the Spanish collector's market, the first album by Gloria Van Aerssen & Carmen Santonja is at last reissued on CD as it deserves. On the twelve songs they wrote for their debut album, originally released on Ópalo in 1971, Vainica Doble blended folk, soft rock, pop and a dose of psychedelia to describe a magical world of their own with splendid Spanish lyrics and great arrangements that bring you echoes of the Beatles, the British Psychedelic Trip or The Incredible String Band, without ever loosing their incredibly personal character that sounds so unique to today's ears as it did to those of 1971. Its fantastic, colourful pop cover was designed by Ivan Zulueta, artist and film director (he was the mastermind behind the cult movies
1, 2, 3... Al escondite inglés!
and
Arrebato
), and is reproduced here in all its glory, housed in a laminated slipcase featuring praise texts by some of their biggest fans such as Andy Votel (Finderskeepers/B-Music), Luis Calvo (Elefant Records), Ibon Errazkin, Ferran Llauradó (Rockdelux) and Ramon Vendrell (El Periódico de Catalunya). Features a lavish full colour 20 page booklet reproducing photos and press clippings from the era, along with extensive liner notes by Àngel Maeztu (written in Spanish) and printed lyrics. You won't get this through rapidshare! The twelve songs of the original 1971 LP are here augmented with 8 bonus tracks, six of them taken from non-LP Vainica Doble singles (including both sides of their mega rare first 45 from 1970 'La Bruja'/'Un Metro Cuadrado') plus two songs from the obscure single by Tickets, their backing band at the time, who recorded Vainica's penned 'El Rigor De Las Desdichas,' with 'Someone Like Me,' a killer psychedelic fuzz-pop stomper, as its flipside. All their Ópalo recordings collected in one fantastic edition made, as always, with love and devotion by the Wah Wah team."

"The Inner Space is the stuff of legend. This obscure outfit is best known as the antecessor band of Can and not much is known about them except it featured the core members of Can (Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit) and lasted just a few months before renaming themselves The Can and releasing
Monster Movie
. They left two ultra-obscure seven inches as their only recorded legacy and only the first of them is credited to The Inner Space, it contained two songs taken from the soundtrack of 1969's underground film
Agilok & Blubbo
. Originally released by the German Vogue label in 1969, it currently fetches prices around the 300 euro mark in the collector's circuit. Given the obscurity of both the band and its recorded output, we're proud to present, for the first time to the public, not only the aforementioned singles but the complete soundtrack to Peter F. Scheneider's offbeat political satire
Agilok & Blubbo
. Previously unavailable until now, the original master tapes of this soundtrack have been stored in the archives of legendary German producer and music publisher Hans Wewerka who produced the recording sessions back in 1969. Here you can hear history in the making, the first step of a group of musicians who'll go on to achieve fame, success and recognition over the '70s, helping define a sound (often called Krautrock) that has been highly influential to this day. Those familiar with Can's output will recognize some of the band's characteristic sound, albeit in an embryonic form. Songs like 'Agilok & Blubbo' or 'Kamera Song' already hint at their later pop brilliance whereas the short cues and extended free jams found elsewhere in this soundtrack reminds us from the heterogeneous roots of a bunch of musicians coming from rock, jazz and avant-garde backgrounds. All in all, an excellent glimpse into the early stages of an innovative band developing its own musical language. This reissue includes detailed liner notes by Wah Wah's very own Raül G.Pratginestós and comes illustrated by original b/w shoots from the movie production. CD issue contains two bonus tracks: 'Memographie,' plus Irmin Schmidt's 1967 composition 'Hexapussy.' In all, over 28 minutes of bonus material!"
